Dave Filoni has access to infinity funds now so as long as Disney lets him keep that Black Mastercard he's going to continue putting out highly detailed, high quality content. I wish they would let him animate all 6 Star Wars movies with Clones Wars animation and voice actors.

    • @Skye_Writer
      @Skye_Writer 25 дней назад +3

Yeah, but I spent the whole episode distracted by that name, and correcting them every time: the _Singing_ Mountain clan, the _SINGING_ Mountain clan, dammit use their correct name. I was thrilled that we finally get to see the _Witches_ of Dathomir as opposed to _only_ seeing the Nightsisters (they _are_ different, after all; both factions access the Force through spell-casting and have different abilities than traditional Force users, but the Witches and the Nightsisters are as different as the Jedi and the Sith). It annoyed me that they made the whole damn planet seem like it was inhabited by nothing but Dark Siders, so I'm glad to see them bring the planet to a state where The Courtship of Princess Leia can be re-introduced into the canon, basically.
But if the Star Wars Story Group is going to keep lifting ideas wholesale from an already-established creation like that novel (they don't seem to have a lot of original ideas), then I wish they'd do the author the favor of getting it _right_ instead of acting like they pulled from the cliff notes of the books. The Witches that Han and Leia meet are *the Singing Mountain Clan* and Gethzerion and her group of Nightsisters.
And while on the subject of lifting things from the books, I'm pissed they took one of Thrawn's greatest contributions to the Empire, i.e. the fact that HE designed the TIE Defender, and made it Morgan's design instead. Timothy Zahn established _decades_ ago that _Thrawn_ came up with those designs. And he wasn't in the least bit afraid or unwilling to position something in his books as "this person created the design for the fighters and brought it to Thrawn's attention, earning his admiration and backing for the idea." Thrawn gave credit where it was due. So if someone _else_ had designed them and Thrawn got behind the plan to produce them, we'd have been told that in the novels. But _he_ is the one who said to a group of engineers, "We need starfighters to rival the X-Wings. This is what I want: shields, a hyperdrive, a more efficient engine, better scopes..." etc and he approved designs or sent them back to their drawing boards.
This show just makes it look like in the 10 years it took him to rise to the rank of Admiral, he had never even considered such a thing until Morgan Elsbeth _happened_ to come to his attention and basically drop those plans in his lap.
I'm all for deepening Morgan's backstory and making her a more complex character, but can we do it WITHOUT taking the contributions to OTHER characters away from them? And wtf does burning a forest moon have to do with building starfighters? WHERE is this factory? We saw this town in Mando Season 2...it ain't that big. And Ahsoka's series says that Morgan's main shipbuilding complexes were on Corellia, which made me think that Corvis is where she fled to when the New Republic came through after Endor, freeing the big systems in the Inner Rim. It makes no sense that Corvis has any damn thing to do with building starfighters or that it is rich with resources the Empire feels the need to control.
Idk, I was just shaking my head through these first 3 episodes.

  • @jtser8322
    @jtser8322 26 дней назад +75

That was Bo-katan answering the distress call. I wonder if she's the one who sent Ahsoka to Corvus? It would explain why she knew the Mandolorian would find Ahsoka there. Burning the forest really brought Morgan's story full circle and also explains why the "forest planet" we expected in Mando was in ruins.

It's interesting to compare her with Merrin, another Nightsister survivor who started down the same path Morgan did but turned away from it and found a different way to deal with her losses, which Morgan never does. Seeing Grievous unleashed with that new animation model was awesome and honestly he was haunting in this. I loved hearing Sidious' words echoed from him. It's also just cool that we saw Pelleaon, Rukh and Morgan all together in one place. Thrawn's three most best known agents in both Canon and Legends. That fight was dope and I loved the scene afterwards with Thrawn. A perfect display of what sets him apart from other Imperials. Her last short felt like a prelude to The Jedi in Mando and it sets the stage really, showing how far Morgan has fallen.

The ambassador thought Corvus already knew about the fall of the Empire, and that there might be a better reception with Morgan understanding she didn't have Imperial backing for her tyranny. She didn't know that Morgan would retain her iron grip and not let anyone know, keeping them subservient. So, she didn't go with the expectation of a fight. And, she was probably like so many others in the New Republic in thinking that the Imperial remnants were scattered and powerless.

I absolutely love this. Everything is perfect. My only critique is the way Thrawns motives are portrayed in all of the Disney content. In Zahns two new trilogies, it is told that Thrawns entire mission infiltrating the Empire is to find an ally to help defend the Chiss Ascendancy. But with the Disney content, it makes it out that Thrawn is just in it to become the new "King of the Imperials"... There doesn't seem to be any concern on Thrawns part about getting back to his people to defend them from the Gryskk.... Idk, I just think that it makes Thrawn a little one-dimensional when he could have a lot more layers to his motives for why he's trying to obtain military power. BUT these stories are AWESOME! I like how the Mountain Clan is more like the Jedi and the Night Sisters are more like the Sith. I hope we get to see more of Dathomir in the future. It would appear that everyone on the planet has an affinity to the Force. Dathomirians like the Jedi and Sith, have differing philosophies and practices and use the Force in different ways. The difference here, however, is that the Mountain Clan and the Night sisters left each other alone seemingly.
15:44 That and the Droid Commander, no?
16:44 That probably answers Bendu's question (or was it your question?) about why the Assassin Droid didn't just crush Morgan's neck when it had the chance. The Trade Federation was mass-producing hundreds of thousands of droids, constantly replacing the ones they lost in countless battles the galaxy over. While they had a lot of wealth, they like the Empire we know, only put as much money into a project that was necessary and not a penny more. For the most part, they defeated their enemies with their numbers, not skill. At least the Assassin Droid knew to look up when looking for Morgan, lol. Regular Battle Droids would have kept marching forward.
16:45 Really? Some of them have so much personality, though. C-3PO, R2-D2, Chopper, L3-37, K-2SO, and BB-8 were much more than their programming. R2-D2 often went beyond the duties of what we saw Astromechs do--R2 often came to the aid of his friends; we saw him actually solve problems. Most droids after the Clone Wars were different, probably because of the droid army, and that's probably why they seem more robotic. People throughout the galaxy feared them. So much so that restraining bolts were created to suppress the ability of droids. A New Hope shows that prejudice towards droids goes as far as the Outer Rim, so they left a mark on the galaxy, a very large one ='(
What I like most about Morgan's story is her need to stay the offensive while not sacrificing on defense. She's also looking for her place in the galaxy, befriending those around her, but her ambition to succeed keeps those around her at arm's length. How would her story have turned out if someone had just given her a hug?

I hate how the New Republic has been shown so far. However, it seems to be an overcorrection of those who opposed the Empire and going to the extreme pacifist route. They think that their victory was so complete that the Empire has no one that will secretly still have loyalty to it or that it could rise again. 'You're overconfidence is your weakness'.

Got to meet Diana Lee Inosanto at FanExpo on Saturday (as well as meeting Alan Tudyk and Dee Bradley Baker and seeing Hayden and Rosario give a panel)! Such a nice woman who loved interacting with fans (she complimented me on my Star Wars and Calvin &Hobbes mash up shirt). Also talked a bit with her about the episodes which was cool :)
Really liked the expansion of Morgan's backstory, seeing a new faction on Dathomir and the Thrawn Pellaeon and Rukh appearance (shame they weren't all on screen together). I'm annoyed about the retcon to "Thrawn Treason" but I love the Thrawn & Pellaeon duo so much I'm willing to overlook it for more scenes of them working together.
The Grievous fight was amazing. Found a fan edit already that added inGrievous' 2003 theme and it made the sequence even better.

I think someone did't do there homework. Thrawn was an admiral when he gets the 7 fleet and get's promoted to grand admiral, right before the start of rebels season 3 and the captain of the chimera at that time was "Karyn Faro" throughout book 1 & 2. Captain pellaeon joins thrawn in book 3 and that is in the finally of rebels.

For me, the most interesting part, other then Thrawn, Rukh and Grevious, was seeing the Mountain Clan for the first time. So much when it comes to Dathamir has focused on the Nightsisters, and while I love the expanded and changing lore for the Nightsisters, I am happy to see the "Light Side" Witches of Dathamir as well.
With all these newer and expanded stories for Dathamir, and with Ahsoka, it confirmed how ancient they are, I can ask this but know it will sadly never happen. Star Wars the Old Republic, give us Witches of Dathamir as playable classes!

The "mountain mother" was using the same barrier/shockwave skill that Cere Junda used in Jedi Survivor or at least a very similar skill. 😁
Because of the extra lore it brought with this new clan of light side witches of Danthomir i think episode 1 was the best out of those 3. Plus seeing Grievious being a actual menance in combat. 😈
Also that warning about the doomed path Morgan choose. Amazing episode.
Episode 2 only hightlight for me was Thrawn, Paleon and that great fighting sequence of Morgan vs Rukh, while episode 3 added very little when compared to the others.

It's even more devastating that Sidious had a contingency to destroy the New Republic if the Empire failed to crush the Rebel Alliance: Disband the Empire, only recruit loyal Imperials to the Unknown Regions, and infiltrate the New Republic and dismantle it from within. I like Legends more because the New Republic felt more competent.

I feel like they based the characters on 3D adaptations of the Gendy series and that’s why Dooku is so…. Odd. And honestly why everyone from early on is so pointy. Like palpatine looks nothing like Ian in clone wars but in the late seasons they tried to round out his design a bit. I digress but I think if they saw the trajectory of the series his design would have been more realistic

First the "Tales of the Jedi" then "Tales of the Empire" next on in my opinion should be "Tales of the Clones" staring Cody and Wolf. Since the last time we saw both of them we all heard that Cody went awall in S2 Ep3 but what does that mean exactly did Cody did defect or is it code for executed this the big Question hovering over our heads. And Wolf we all saw him letting Rex and the Batch go in S3 Ep7 these are unanswered Questions we all want to know don't anybody agree.

Positives first - i love Grievous being shown as, essentially, the monster in a Slasher-film. Relentless, brutal, unstoppable, ruthless, bloodlusted and reveling in carnage, destruction and slaughter. And for me, personally, i could always reconcile his usual depiction in TCW as appearing seemingly cowardly with his initial appearance in the OG CW-cartoon. To me, they are pretty much the same character and his portrayal here proves it. When he runs away in TCW, he does exactly what Dooku taught him, which was, more or less, to press the attack as long as he has fear and intimidation through psychological warfare and the initiative and surprise on his side, as long as his victims are off-kilter and frightened, but that he's better of retreating once he looses this advantage, something he'll eventually do when going up against Jedi, trained to center themselves and master their fear.
On the other side... i'm not gonna lie, i wasn't the biggest fan of this entire arc. Looking back, i feel it's lacking and didn't really add anything new, except the smallest details, that we didn't already know, neither to Morgan's story nor the overarcing, larger ongoing SW-story. We already knew she was a Nightsister who survived the purge of Dathomir, we already knew she eventually was taken under Thrawn's wing, we knew she was a tyrant on Corvus that exploited the planet and terrorized its citizens, we new she eventually had visions that set her on the path we see unfold in Mandalorian and Ahsoka. And whatever new things it added to the parts of her story we already knew about kinda annoyed me, i'll be honest. Like her turning out to be the mastermind behind the TIE-Defenderm. Meanwhile, the things that would have been really interesting to learn about - at least for me - like how she managed to take over an entire system as an apolitical outsider from a remote world. Or how she accumulated the ressources for her HK-army, something she probably did before coming to Corvus. How she got the spear. How the Great Mothers from Peridea contacted her and what visions they sent her.
Not trying to be a downer here, sorry. It's not that i didn't enjoy the arc - it's more Star Wars, after all - or that it was bad, per se, but in the end, it felt like a bit of a waste of three episodes in a rare installment of a series that could have been used better otherwises, at least in my opinion.
And yeah, the New Republic was, for the most part and according to all we know about it so far, very much key in bringing about its own end. With foolish actions like dismantling their military (especially after they came up with apparent naval powerhouses like the Starhawks), they tried SO HARD not to be the Empire, they made it easy for a new one to replace them.

  • @cd5sircoupe

I enjoyed the series as a whole, but it felt very lackluster in comparison to Tales of the Jedi. Maybe they played it too safe, I dunno. The Morgan stuff was ok, didn't quite pan out the way the Trailer presented it to be honest. I'll get into Bariss during that next reaction video.
And Nah, plenty of people were like Morgan's a Night Sister after her very first appearance. It only took like 2-1/2 years to have that confirmed.

I loved seeing Thrawn, Rukh, and Pellaeon again. I know some fans complain about canon cherry-picking Timothy Zahn's EU novels but as a massive Zahn fan myself I think the fact that Dave keeps pulling from them is a testament to how lasting of a legacy he's left on the franchise. And to how good the _Heir to the Empire_ books were (and still are). Like yeah, we're not getting a 1:1 adaptation (although tbh it'd still be badass to see Mara) but contrary to the "they're disrespecting Zahn" argument I think it's actually the opposite. Imo if Dave didn't love and respect the guy he wouldn't keep referencing his work in every project now lol. When I write my own stories, if I admire another writer's work I _want_ to reference it a lot to kind of pay homage to them even if I'm doing something different. Anyway I thought this Thrawn in particular was spot-on to how Zahn originally portrayed him. Playing 4D chess, sending Rukh and Pellaeon to size up Morgan, and only appearing when he was sure he wanted to form an alliance
Also I was not expecting Kyle to make a Jonestown connection of all things but honestly you're not wrong 😕
