I think the thing that many people dislike about the games is that it's really frustrating when the game is supposed to be about choices but if you actually try to put yourself in the character's shoes you would do so many things differently that aren't even presented to you as choices.
The entirety of Life Is Strange 2 would be solved if you just turned yourself in at the beginning. Or if you could actually choose sensible dialogue options in many situations.
It's also sad that the developers did not understand how important the rewind was to the first game. I remember an interview with the developers where they stated that the idea for the game was something to the effect of 'Players will savescum anyway so let's make that canon'. It lets you see the effects of your decisions before making a final choice, which makes any unpredictable things that happen much easier to swallow. It still baffles me they decided to change this for future instalments when they seemingly understood so well how good of an idea this was when they made the first game.

True, the games are definitely marketed as choice based narratives. Though I also see why the developers of the second game chose to not necessarily do what is the most "sensible" choice for Sean and Daniel. The issue here is that the second and third installments have less of a focus on choices and more on the narrative the game tells us. The creators wanted to tell a very specific story, tell a narrative of disparities. Unlike the first game that has a simpler conflict with more impactful choices, that, indeed we get to experience through Max's rewind power.
Though if you wanted to turn yourself in as Sean at the beginning, I reckon they could probably just roll credits here and then. But I doubt the game would be able to discuss the topics they wanted to this way. So I think it's a point of preference in that way :)

About the inconsistency of Max first rewind I don't think that was a rewind at all, I would argue that spacetime itself time traveled her. She had no idea she had powers no idea how to use them so I think the second she accidentally unlocked her abilities the universe felt the disturbance and the cosmos itself pulled her back through space and time to the classroom and that's why it's the one time she didn't stay in place like every other.

This was so thoughtful and interesting! I know it’s not technically a LiS game, but I think analyzing Tell Me Why under this same lens could be very interesting.

I really like your video and I love your jumper 😊. I love LIS one with all my heart, I didn’t care too much for before the storm, I didn’t play LIS2 because I’m just not interested in playing as boys and I really like True Colors but I thought it was a bit too short and in the end it lacked something to make it very special, it was a bit anti climatic. But I loved her power and how she took on their emotions. I am really looking forward to double exposure. Max is my favourite character and I saved the bay, although I did see both ending of course 😊

I think they were aiming for a more chill and small story, which is why Alex’s power is inferior compared to the other three protags (Rachel isn’t a protag, but y’know) that’s why True Colors is the way it was, especially that LiS1 and BtS was emotionally “intense”, and they wanted to offer something different, something more light-hearted.

It's "Mark Jefferson" and "Haven Springs", thank you very much. Have you heard about the new LIS? I can't wait...

Honestly the buds scene is still better than hearing Jefferson's pretentious fucking speech on a loop. Also I forgot to mention before, but this is an amazing essay!

I thought about the opening bathroom sequence a lot, the only explanation i can come up with is that, Max didn’t rewind at the beginning, it was probably something else (a paranormal figure or the blue butterfly), that still doesn't explain why she still had the memory of the scene.guess we'll never know 😂

i love LiS series, but till now i still hate how they allowed Kate to live and not Chloe, because without Max's power, Kate is destined to die
