There is a lot to say about a Sy-Fy tv show “The Magicians”, but I gave it a go. You can for sure expect more on this topic. You can also check out this recap I made of important things to know before starting the 10th episode after only watchi...

Star Trek and Philosophy. There is a lot more to Star Trek than Spock and Live long and Prosper! (sidenote, this is the first time I have tried making a videoessay in this form, so please be gentle) Here is some extra info, that could get you up to speed on: Marxism - ruclips.net/video/gR3igiwaeyc/видео.html

> All three of these games Sick burn, poor Before the Storm
About the first rewind on LIS1, I've been think about it ever since 2015, and I've come up with two theories (if it's genuinely not a pothole): 1. The awakening of the power led to a more powerful and exclusive version of Rewind, that altered space as well. 2. That ENTIRE section was actually a dream within a dream (Max herself references Inception there), a vision to awaken her rewind and save Chloe. Her true awakening from the vision dreams is after the first rewind, so that's why she goes back to class.
this is a great video!!
Life is Strange 1 is a persona game
This video is excellent, but the fact that you have a Voyager model next to your window makes it even better :)
I’ve played Life is strange for the first time. For someone who’s new to these kind of games. The story in the beginning was a slow start like a train beginning to travel. So I was boring. But like a train, once it’s started to pick up speed it got interesting. I was very nosy and investigated everything I could. But still I didn’t save Kate because my memory sucked. Then casting the blame of her death to the golden boy. I didn’t see my decisions had much an effect until the last episode. Quite a shocker. It turned out I didn’t everything wrong and even shift the blame away from Mr. Jefferson. All in all. The story was good. You see there are more to the characters than what is perceived on the outside. In the end I choose to sacrifice Max’s best friend to save the town. I finished the game with the moral being, things happens that cannot be changed in the past or present no matter who much we want them to. The best thing to do is embrace the past as lessons and enjoy the present. Whether what I got from the game was what the developers intended or not. It’s a good story. Will play the rest of the games. And finish your video. Thanks!
Kate was just story B. We don’t always have to focus on the A plot. Also I’m sure Nathan felt bad for all the girls he helped drug, we just a didn’t get to see his side of the story.
This was so thoughtful and interesting! I know it’s not technically a LiS game, but I think analyzing Tell Me Why under this same lens could be very interesting.
@@nikoXsprinkles oh, I had this game on my wishlist for ages, I think you just made me finally download it 😁
i love LiS series, but till now i still hate how they allowed Kate to live and not Chloe, because without Max's power, Kate is destined to die
You technically don't save her, if you go back in time, you rewind before the suicide, or the saving her from suicide and go right back to the start of the game.
I mean it does make sense if Chloe dies in the school nathen gets arrested and the crimes he committed with Jefferson come to light as well as the abuse of Kate leading to her living in that timeline
Actually... Kate's driven to suicide because of Max's powers. The Sacrifice Chloe ending's photos show that (and I need to remind that on that timeline, she never told David about the Dark Room) if Chloe just died in the bathroom, everything would turn out smoothly. Nathan is arrested which takes attention off Kate and her video, he eventually rats out Jefferson which is also arrested, the Dark Room and Rachel's body are finally discovered by the police, and with all these things happen, Kate gets peace AND justice long enough to give up jumping the roof. She was actually never in danger, Max saving Chloe takes attention off her murder and drives it towards Kate.
If you sacrifice Chloe, you can see that Kate lives. She never jumps because Mark and Nathan are imprisoned. I think you’re just being purposefully obtuse. Maybe replay the game??
It's "Mark Jefferson" and "Haven Springs", thank you very much. Have you heard about the new LIS? I can't wait...
Honestly the buds scene is still better than hearing Jefferson's pretentious fucking speech on a loop. Also I forgot to mention before, but this is an amazing essay!
Found this in my recommendation, neat stuff and perhaps a response to Ryebread's videos? That green wall looks so good, I'm damn jealous man.
I really like your video and I love your jumper 😊. I love LIS one with all my heart, I didn’t care too much for before the storm, I didn’t play LIS2 because I’m just not interested in playing as boys and I really like True Colors but I thought it was a bit too short and in the end it lacked something to make it very special, it was a bit anti climatic. But I loved her power and how she took on their emotions. I am really looking forward to double exposure. Max is my favourite character and I saved the bay, although I did see both ending of course 😊
I think they were aiming for a more chill and small story, which is why Alex’s power is inferior compared to the other three protags (Rachel isn’t a protag, but y’know) that’s why True Colors is the way it was, especially that LiS1 and BtS was emotionally “intense”, and they wanted to offer something different, something more light-hearted.
Not playing Life is Strange 2 just cause you play as a boy is a stupid reason to not play it.
I thought about the opening bathroom sequence a lot, the only explanation i can come up with is that, Max didn’t rewind at the beginning, it was probably something else (a paranormal figure or the blue butterfly), that still doesn't explain why she still had the memory of the scene.guess we'll never know 😂
Never thought I'd see max caufield and immaunael kant on a same thumbnail
About the inconsistency of Max first rewind I don't think that was a rewind at all, I would argue that spacetime itself time traveled her. She had no idea she had powers no idea how to use them so I think the second she accidentally unlocked her abilities the universe felt the disturbance and the cosmos itself pulled her back through space and time to the classroom and that's why it's the one time she didn't stay in place like every other.
Maybe, I enjoy your thought process though
@@eliweekly7312 I think the creators themselves said so at some point
I think the thing that many people dislike about the games is that it's really frustrating when the game is supposed to be about choices but if you actually try to put yourself in the character's shoes you would do so many things differently that aren't even presented to you as choices. The entirety of Life Is Strange 2 would be solved if you just turned yourself in at the beginning. Or if you could actually choose sensible dialogue options in many situations. It's also sad that the developers did not understand how important the rewind was to the first game. I remember an interview with the developers where they stated that the idea for the game was something to the effect of 'Players will savescum anyway so let's make that canon'. It lets you see the effects of your decisions before making a final choice, which makes any unpredictable things that happen much easier to swallow. It still baffles me they decided to change this for future instalments when they seemingly understood so well how good of an idea this was when they made the first game.
True, the games are definitely marketed as choice based narratives. Though I also see why the developers of the second game chose to not necessarily do what is the most "sensible" choice for Sean and Daniel. The issue here is that the second and third installments have less of a focus on choices and more on the narrative the game tells us. The creators wanted to tell a very specific story, tell a narrative of disparities. Unlike the first game that has a simpler conflict with more impactful choices, that, indeed we get to experience through Max's rewind power. Though if you wanted to turn yourself in as Sean at the beginning, I reckon they could probably just roll credits here and then. But I doubt the game would be able to discuss the topics they wanted to this way. So I think it's a point of preference in that way :)
The thing is, these aren't rpgs. These have defined characters with defined personalities and thought processes. It is not the game's fault that you can come up with different solutions in your head that the characters would not, especially with their usually limited knowledge.
@@channel45853 I see what you're saying, but these games are about choices more than most RPGs. You're definitely being "friendly-with-Kate Max" or not or "good-influence Sean". The game thinks these role playing choices are so important it puts up stats at the end of an Episode and lets you carry over your choices into the next game. They have predefined personalities, sure. But choosing to run away from police is not a personality trait. I just lose interest in making choices when I would have done something vastly different that was predetermined for me. I would rather have a predetermined version of Life Is Strange 2 for example because those stories can necessarily have better writing and then the controversial choices would not even be nearly as frustrating.
@@Seacle14 no, RPGs value choice significantly more than point and click adventure games.
Watch out commentary channels, there is a new kid on the block!
First comment! This is shaping up to be quite the insightful take on these games. I look forward to the next instalment to be looked at!
Great review! Thanks for doing it... I have no notes (on your review). I have notes on the show: it's criminal no music CD was ever released of all the songs. Also, the world desperately needs a Magicians cookbook entitled, "Eating Out With Josh Hoberman"
Seasons 3 and 4 were amazing. I’ve rewatched the series multiple times now and it’s my favorite show.
You are great.
You are very wise, but I don't know about mankind, whan I was young I hoped for a Star Trek future. But now it seems mandkind is heading to an Alien future where Corporations are in charge and people don't matter.
Have you heard of Pythagoras who believed in Pythagorean Religion of numbers having supernatural powers, Veganism, Reincarnation, and Musical Instruments. It was a real mystery religion in Ancient Greece Research it to fact check me 😊
Vulcans sounds like the original Buddhism that was about philosophy until it got mixed with the FOUR Major Buddhist Religious sects which were divided into multiple Buddhist philosophical schools. Theravada (South East Asian/India) ,Mahayana (East Asian) Vajrayana (Esoteric Buddhism), and Tibetan Buddhism (Dalai Lama and Gurus). These put focus on multiple Pagan Gods, Bodhisattva, Lamas, Gurus, Buddhist Temples, Relics from dead monks bodies and funeral rituals.
In the Enterprise episode Cold Front a religious pilgrim says to T'Pol, "I understand the Vulcans are a deeply spiritual people." She responds, "Our beliefs are based on logic and the pursuit of clarity." The few times we see Vulcan rituals in Star Trek it's difficult to see them as spiritual.

Honestly this show just defined so much of my teenage years. It’s not always good, and it’s incredibly painful at parts but fuck me man it’s also just a masterpiece. I’ve recently picked up the comic Alice’s story and loved it so much I finished it the same night I bought it, and plan on reading the books next
Excellent video by the way. I wish more of the left leaning atheistic trekkies were like you. You truly get the message.
From the star trek roleplaying game, all basic needs were met freely, and then you could still earn more if you wanted. Property ownership seems to be more like Georgian land value tax, since picard still owns a vineyard. Does he "sell" the wine? I mean, we dont really know. Probably he does trade some of it to cover expenses and reward the people who work for him. I dont see him as a capitalist, more like some sort of Georgian system with some form of "title" and inheritance.
We never did find out what God needs with a starship...
Hey, Bravo on your video! It was very enjoyable to hear your exposition of the Star Trek mindset on the philosophical Starship Enterprise. Trek has been enormously influential on me and a source of catharsis. I know it's a mindset I employ in my daily life to explore new worlds and New Life. It's the human compulsion as Q and Riker once discussed, using the different branches of the tree as Einstein stated. Thank you so much for your videos and your education.👏🖖
Very cool video essay! 🖖
Trying to get my friends to see this has been my own undoing lol. A brilliant show seeing it for the second time in 2022
D
This is probably the best explanation I ever heard on Star Trek 🌟. The best explanation I heard on Star Wars was by RUclipsr Lonelycow video Embraced the Dark Side. Carl Jung talk about mastery of Self and having balanced and control of self, he sums it up perfectly 🙌 👏 quote The psychologist Carl Jung said that people have a "persona" - the part of themselves they are proud of and like that they show to the world, all the "good parts" of themselves, and that people also have a "shadow" - the part of themselves they are ashamed of and hate and that they hide from the world, all the "bad parts" of themselves. He said that "avoiding or repressing your shadow" would just lead to problems, and that the "right solution" was that you need to "integrate your shadow" - stop being ashamed of those bad parts of yourself, learn to control them, and learn when and how to use them when you need them. Carl Jung would have been a great Jedi Master.
Basically Star Trek is Humanism and Star Wars is Carl Jung Archetypes. Star Trek was inspired by Horatio Hornblower novels and Wagon Trains while Star Wars was inspired by Flash Gordon and the Wizard of Oz. Funny people still don't understand the true meaning of the Wizard of Oz, in the Wizard of Oz, you had a man using advanced technology to pretend to be a God like figure, but Dorothy realize her true power is within and she learn her archetypes of herself and she is more powerful than she realized and the power their all alone within her the whole time, the princes and frog would later repeat this theme. Star Wars modern myth based on Jungian archetypes mastery of and Star Trek is myth based on Problem solving.
When do you stream or post videos? Would love to participate in the live chat. This video was interesting to listen to.
Fantastic video!!! Saludos desde Chile.
What a great video! Please share this...more people have to see this
It is nescessary to deal with emotions, but not (!) like Vulcans, to live in "unity and harmony" . Not avoiding, but integrating it. Still does not solve the problems of narcissm and sacral-worldly need for humor
Enlightment will lead back into DARK times or painfully blinding light that is not nutrious, if we won't overcome the more than 2000 year old seperation of (subjective) psyche and (objective) rational thinking. Methodological (not buddhist) non-dualstic phenomenology could offer this escape and rescue from the rising totalitarianism of (pseudo!) science ideology, religion and technology.
I can't imagine theories of Karl Marx offer a good approach to a both technological but also spiritual positive progress for human kind, and technology without philosophy is blind, the other way around wisdom is destructive, not constructive in a livly way. And I think I also have proof or at least hints why.
distribution is another kind of (government) owning problem; using rights ideas and Henry George (term of "spaceship Earth") can teach us more about a feasable and more than sustainable, but regenerative economy than Marx. Also it is crucial to intensify the conciousness about nature as opposed to culture, even to get rid of the term but still accept the presence and environment.
I started the series out of boredom, thought about dropping it during season one, but by season three, it was like on a whole other level. That's probably one of my favourite seasons of any show ever! Such a shame it comes after a slow start & isn't talked about much. So thanks for talking about it! Also, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the characters (if you'd like to share them) :)
Exactly! Massively underrated, but so good. Thank you for commenting :)
Anyone still here? But seriously the show should be praised more maybe in the Deadpool way becuase its kinda similar on the premise of breaking the standard it has some flaws but overall experience is great, Quentin is a little bit annoying but this could be on purpose . I think that if someone would come they already know all they need to
Yay! I found another amazing corner on the interwebs!
😊
Good video. I am agnostic but I am interested to know, as an athiest did Star Trek 5 drive you nuts or did you feel it was right for the crew (the ones that weren't brainwashed) to have an open mind and see if there really was God at the center of the great barrier?
Can’t wait for your next videos! Love the selection of the song review haha ✨
Aww, thank you kindly!
