Definitely used clothing stores. One of the best things ever invented because of waste created by textile industry. Of course bring own cloth bags from home. An obvious one but has to be said.
I am an American who has been living in Sweden for 6 years. I am currently home for the holidays though. In Sweden, they use a dishcloth that is made of cellulose and cotton. They are amazing for a variety of reasons. First, they are the best of both worlds between sponges and dishcloths. So for people who struggle to give up sponges, they act in the same way. They do start to smell after a while, but you can put them in the laundry or dishwasher and reuse them until they start to fall apart. And best yet is they are biodegradeable. My parents absolutely fell in love with them the first time they came to visit and have me bring loads home everytime because they are so cheap there. You can buy them on Amazon, but they are more expensive than in Sweden. Most people just throw them away, but if you wash them they are well worth the money . It's annoying when you say "I don't need a bag" just as they already placed the item in the bag. Then they take it out and throw the bag away?!?! Um you can't use it for the next person?
@@scottiemanners I used to just take the stuff right after they scan it. Can't give me a bag if I already got all the items :D Or it that was not possible, I held my carrier bag open to receive the things and then they see "oh, she puts it there, don't need to give a bag". A few years ago free plastic bags were banned here though, so now you have to ask (and pay) if you want a bag. Haven't had a bag ever since and neither did many people (because if you are supposed to pay 50 cent they very quickly find alternatives). Hope your lawmakers soon take action as well :)
Yes!!! I purchase a couple things sometimes and don’t bring in a reusable bag because I don’t need a bag. The cashier ALWAYS tries to bag my couple items despite me asking them not to!
I'm still trying to figure out which language it is that considers "No bag please" to be such an offensive insult... and what exactly is that insult so I can use it elsewhere?
when you said walking, you forgot biking! I bike all around my city no matter what. Biking is completely emission free and a lot faster than walking. Also a good workout!
I wish I lived somewhere I could bike or walk, I'd be a lot thinner. I live on a back ground, and then when you hit the main road, it's a ditch on either side, 20 blind curves, several blind hills, and 2 1 lane Bridges. Is not conducive to manual ambulation.
Adding to the point about not all produce needs bags: I work in a grocery store, and sometimes customers will say things like "I don't want my produce touching the dirty till belt!" If you put your produce in single use bags because you don't want it to touch the dirty basket or the dirty till, think about all of the potentially dirty hands that probably touched that item before you did. It's probably not going to be any cleaner if you put it in the bag, and you should always wash your produce, whether you bag it or not.
leee seriously! Your apple touching two more dirty surfaces is not going to cause any more harm that the countless hands and other machinery it has already touched or the dirty cardboard box it came in. People crack me up. Do you not wash your produce before eating it anyways???
YEs and when they put down a wet produce like kale bunch and then refuse to put anything else down until I clean off the conveyer belt because it’s wet and will absolutely ruin everything that touches it. 😒
I hope you guys read this. Don't beat yourself up if you get one plastic bag if you forgot yours and have a bunch of things. Make sure you're careful with it, so, that way you can donate that bag or those bags to a homeless shelter, a thrift store, or you can reuse it. (also doggy bags.) The key is to work your way down from a consumer's standpoint. Be strong!! Good luck on your journey, everybody!
I always try to just suck it up or put it in the trunk and then run bags out to the car but yeah when I have to take a bag it gets reused as a trash bag
If we forget bags we reuse the plastic ones for trash liners. I refuse to pay for something for my trash yo go in. When we run low I try to get bags from people who never use reusable and would otherwise throw them away.
I always wear t-shirts under sweaters, hoodies etc so I rarely have to wash all the knitted sweaters I have only the t-shirts. The t-shirts doesnt even look nice they can be old and have holes in them or whatever no one is going to see them anyway. PLUS not washing knitwear makes them last longer.
I love it when you "roast" your family, I feel it makes you very relatable! Most of us aren't surrounded by people who share our beliefs and it's so frustrating at times, so it's wonderful to know that we are not alone 💕 I loved this video, as always!
I used ecosia for a small time, then i needed to switch back to google. It just doesn't work in non english countries, when i search something like names, i type celebrities name i get wikipedia etc. In english! Not finnish. Or specially when i search something that means different things in finnish and english it always gives me english answers. So definetly no no for me.
And to add that, it doesn't give the best results like google, the ones i really needed. It's more like close, but not right there, like bing but not so bad.
people think I'm gross because i don't always wash my clothes. along with saving water and energy, it helps keep the clothes in better condition for a lot longer. i only wash socks and undies after every use obviously haha
As long as my clothes aren't really sweaty or dirty I hang them up at night so they air out and re wear them, I like to kind of alternate between two sets of clothes because I've read it's good to let them hang up for a day between wears so the bacteria from sweat die off, better yet in the summer hang em in the sun if possible. It's what people used to do when they only had a few pieces that they looked after and mended when needed, it used to be considered really bizarre to throw clothes that weren't stained or smelly in the wash,in fact you probably would have got yelled at by your mom for that nonsense at one time, it's funny how it's the other way round now isn't it
@@alpina4115 Ya I would say it's actually pretty common practice in America/Canada. You're generally considered lazy, dirty and or a slob if you don't.
What you said at the very end is so inspiring. You can't imagine how often i hear "Why are you doing that - do you really think, you can save the world? How naive..." and I'm not even close to zero waste, but I'm trying to get better.
Speaking of roasting your family 😂... I tried to use old jars as cups but when my Mom came to visit she stared complaining how there weren't any cups but I have jars and lots of mugs. I gave her the mug and she says, "This isn't a cup. I want a cup..." Lol a mug is a cup with a handle but she strangely refused and ended up buying cups. The cups we're only $2 but it's $2 that could have been saved. She also tries to get me to do unsustainable things for her such as, "Can you buy me a candy bar while you're out? And "Please use the dryer sheets and not the ball tumbler." And my biggest pet peeve of all is that she insists on taking the trash out when it's only half full. I think I'll make a reusable trash bag since most everything in my trash is dry. It's low key driving me nuts that she's trying to get me to against my values for her.
I hate that my husband does that w the trash can in his bathroom so I've banned him from pulling the trash from my bathroom. My trash can isn't much larger than his and I can easily go 2-3 weeks before it's full enough to be worth taking it out.
@@Monkeyingyang I already do that! I think it might be that the dryer sheets get rid of more static cling than the wool ball. Honestly though I feel like if you just give your clothes a good shaking the cling goes away. I think she's just super set in her ways.
This is going to sound crazy, my husband and I decided to get a portable washer and dryer. It uses a lot less water and electricity. It doesn't even need a washer and dryer hook up and it even has an eco mode!
I've been thinking about getting the foot pedal washer but maybe this portable washer will be a good idea. Because honestly I don't have the time to sit around pedaling my clothes haha
I've thought about this. do you have trouble washing big things like blankets? I think my washer is about to give out and I've been thinking seriously of using a portable one.
Great ideas!!! I thought of a few others whilst watching: 1. Reusable coffee cup/water bottle. 2. Using the library for books, CDs, DVDs, etc. 3. Compost. 4. Say no to napkins. Either use a reusable napkin or just splash some water around your mouth after eating if needed. Have a great day-love your awesome videos 😊🤗
I honestly did not think I was getting much spam email, but I just unsubscribed from about 15 different places! I didn’t realize how many emails I delete every day.
I had to start reusing an old email address. It had been chocked full of spam that I did take the time to unsubscribe to. It didn't take that long and makes checking email so much more pleasant.
Me too and I have like 10 email adresses. I use unrollme.com to help keep up,but I also do a lot of rewards programs & survey sites, stuff like that so I get quite a few but those are more worth it and not ones stressing me out because it something I don’t use or rarely use. I also keep places I use in my emails for their coupons, which is sometimes hard to resist but I tell myself it’ll happen again-free shipping isn’t only this one time in a year & even if it was I could shop elsewhere in most situations,30% off will happen again,$10/$50 will happen again(I mean if it’s like $10/$20 or $10/$10 and something you need or want anyways,or could sell for profit that’d be worth it),double bonus points will happen again. Same with their other tricks like 75% off this over-priced item, get this free, exclusive, limited time. It’s them trying to put a rush/panic mindset in you or a reward sensor because you ‘saved’ or ‘got back’ but spending on something that’s unnecessary is so stressful to me now. The majority of time when I use any of those is when I need something anyways,or am stocking up gifts on clearance & my favorites are second hand shops like schoola, swap,& value world, besides the gifts but sometimes, depending on if it’s new & or can be used if it’s for myself, son,or his dad since we don’t care. I even do free samples in our Easter & Christmas stuff. I also use this site before purchasing and get cash back on stuff I was getting anyways. 😁 ebates.com/r/MISSD54. I got back almost $14 a couple weeks ago. Plus if you use the link/code of mine you get back an automatic $10 on your first $25 purchase. I’ve onlt been using it a few months and so far have gotten back almost $34.
Something a bit gross initially my greatgrandmother does: She has a bowl in her sink and a bucket near the toilet. When she washes her hands, the water catches in the bowl, then she pours the water into the bucket and flushes with it the toilet. It's reducing drought and saving money too.
The shop i'm working at stopped using paper bags for bagging bought items (in Ireland most of the shops have paper bags). Now customers are advised to buy shop's "bag for life". (Obviously it's money ffr the shop 😉). Customers were so unimpressed they would just carry items with their own hands instead. 😃 Zero waste!
Thank you for being you ! inspirational !! I know it seems silly but social media has given me the impression that you need to be a size 0 in order to be eco ... so with my lack of confidence I was always embarrassed doing some of these things because im a curvy gal ... I always felt like before I could go eco I needed to lose weight, or I couldn't meditate/ do yoga until I lost weight . I realise now that I was so wrong !!! It is just a beauty standard portrayed on social media! So thank you for helping me see the light on this xxx
This is great! In the Uk, plastic bags cost 5p at the store, this tiny tax has made everybody stop using carrier bags. Clearly, 5p is such a huge amount of money that it’s totally changed behaviour. Now they’re not blowing around the streets any more either!
Great video Shelbi! I never thought to reuse a Sirarcha bottle for a cider rinse before. I have a LARGE he washer and dryer now and fill the thing up as much as possible before doing a load of laundry. The washer instructions actually recommend doing that to reduce water and electricity use. I have been trying to get my Mother to do the same but she insists on only washing a few items at a time. I have also caught her switching my laundry from the washer to the dryer and only putting half of the load into the dryer because she thinks that the load is too large to dry. It's difficult to retrain our loved older people to be more eco thoughtful or to use new appliances to their full benefits!
When I started school this year I realized I sit in class a few hours why am I throwing my jeans in the laundry everyday, now I wear them a bunch of times such a duhhh moment.
I am approaching my40's and the only time I expected to wear a pair of jeans only once was when I was temping in a plastics factory. It is also the only time I showered every day, and it was after each shift. Thankfully that job didn't last every long.
I wear jeans for like a month before washing if they're not sweaty or smell bad. Then I wash them inside-out. I basically have a capsule wardrobe so I have a new outfit almost every day that works with the jeans. I doubt anyone pays attention though.
great video! i feel like you make really unique videos that really convey how this isnt just a cute trend for you. And youre so right that so many of these also save us time and money - ive always found line drying superior in that its much gentler than the dryer.
THANK you for agknowlaging that some people need to use straws! I try to avoid disposable straws (It's hard to remember to bring a clean one) but banning straws altogether is just unfair to people who need them. They were originally created for people in the hospital who can't sit up to drink water and don't have the dexterity for holding a glass.
I made reusable shopping bags from some Holly Hobbie curtains and sturdy fabric for lining from the second hand store and I get SO MANY compliments on them. I've had them for about 8 years now and they're still going strong, so much better than the crappy reusable bags you buy at the store, which really aren't that much better than single use bags if you actually look into them. I just bought some super light shear fabric from the second hand store to make produce and bulk bags so I can buy bulk without using the plastic bags that go in the trash pretty much as soon as I get home, I think they should be light enough to not ad anymore weight than the plastic ones cause girl is on a budget and I don't want to have to pay more for bringing my own bag since it should really be the other way around.
They started charging 5p per carrier bag in the UK, to reduce plastic waste. In a year it reduced the amount of carrier bags by something like 85%! And they're increasing it to 10p a bag this year
I literally do every single one of these- woo hoo! I also use cloth napkins and towels, rather than paper, bar soap that comes either wrapped in paper or with no wrapping at all, make my own deodorant (which works better than any of those “healthy” versions out there), buy toothpaste that comes in glass (using my bamboo toothbrush, of corse), buy milk that comes in glass jars, getting $2 back for each when I return them. I’m thankful to YOU for introducing me to Ecosia, Who Gives a Crap TP, laundry soap nuts and dryer balls. Keep inspiring!! 🌿💙🌿
"squeegee" water off your body before towelling dry. Prevents the towels from getting musty too quickly. I grew up using paper towel to eat my toast off of, so I'm trying to make it habit to eat off a plate. Also to make sure not to chuck out something that's actually recyclable. I guess being mindful of lowering your waste is the best thing you can do. I'm still using up a ton of products to get rid of, but once they're gone Im switching to toxic-free homemade cleaners and stuff. Plastic has always been something that gave me anxiety; just being aware of how dentrimental it is to the planet. You are very inspiring to me, thank you 💙
I forgot people get free bags at the grocery store when they check out. Where I live you need to pay .10 cents if you want a bag at any grocery store also walmart and target. Also ross. Yes at first it took us some getting used to, but now it is not that hard. If I forget a bag then I just throw the items in my purse and since I carry pretty big purses then it is no big deal Or just carry it in my hand. A lot of ppl dont want to pay ten cents to just carry a few items so they will just carry it in their hands
Also not using a dryer saves your clothes! Many clothes care tags say tumble drying is ok but from experience line drying keeps their quality so much longer than exposing them to heat and tossing around. Also washing them less keeps their quality too. Like you said if it's not stained or stinky don't throw it in the laundry. Plus I know that investing in great quality organic sustainable and eco-friendly clothes can sting at first so it's worth taking care of them.
When cashiers look at me strangely when I refuse a bag, I am just like... I have hands for a reason! Lol. This is a great video! I just unsubscribed from a lot of emails trying to get me to dig into consumerism! My biggest leap this year is refusing bags, I think in the whole 2 years since I started being more low waste I've accepted 10 bags tops, which is huge compared to bags with each trip!
Every time you talk about Ecosia i get so happy, also not sure if you know about this but change.org is a website where you can sign or make your own petition and if you search "plastic" or any key word or phrase they show a bunch of petitions to ban plastic, i've already signed like 5, you should check it out.
I worked at my local big lots and the people there would always make a big deal about me not giving them a bag for their PACK OF GUM. I felt as if I was going crazy having to deal with those people. And they would always complain if I put "too many items" in a single bag.
Something important to note with regrowing produce. Every time you regrow the nutrients are greatly reduced. If you keep re growing the same stock it will not be long until there is no nutrients. It still makes great filler for soups and some things but shouldnt be looked at as a source of nutrients.
For those planning to grow their own avocados: they come from a tree that needs A LOT of water. A LOT. And the roots are really strong, too. Have this in mind before you plant that little tree somewhere dry.
My family uses an old shampoo bottle, peel off the sticker and put a lable that says dish soap on it. The pump makes it so much easier to get the dish soap out and shampoo bottles tend to hold a lot more soap than regular squirt ones.
4:15 on the clothes things: a lot of jeans/denim is meant to be worn at least twice before washing. Also, save for special circumstances like work uniforms etc, if you’re washing your clothes more than once a week, maybe rethink on why you’re washing them so often and see how you can change that
Just a quick pointer on the washing machine hack. Our clothes do contain plastics and everytime we wash them it goes straight in to the drainage system and effects our seas
Getting a second hand bicycle with a trailer for my transportation was one of the most revolutionary changes in my life: 1) free transportation 2) exercise & good mood 3) no pollution!
I live in Denmark, when it comes to plastic bags, you have to pay for them. Alot of people don't want to pay for them. For each bag they cost 2.50 ddk. That is .37 cents. That may not seem to be that much....but it adds up and it is unnecessary use of plastic. And over here we have the world's largest and best bottle recycling system. And it just got better. Before recycled we just glass bottles, soda bottles and cans, but now it includes juice bottles glass and plastic. Every time you buy a soda for example, you pay between 1 ddk to 3.00 ddk. Then when you return them at the grocery store (for example) you get that money back and then those bottles and cans get picked up and recycled into new bottles and cans. It adds up. There are 3 type of prices: A = 1.00 ddk B= 2.50 ddk and C = 3.00 ddk. What we do at home is we save them and then when we are going to go on vacation we bring back all the bottles and cans, then we have spending money. We don't go on vacation every year so it gets to be alot of money. I think the USA should look into this return system. Then all those bottles and cans don't end up in the landfills.
I've been turning down brown bags and plastic bags, as well as silverware, straws, and condiments that I don't need it restaurants. You really need to ask before they package up your food for them to skip the bag and all the rest though. Sometimes I'm afraid that once I've touched it they won't reuse it. Also, it's really easy to stop using paper towels. I just stopped buying them and I stopped needing them. Also, if you live alone there's really no harm in waiting to flush in between uses unless there's an obvious reason for things to need to be flush down. But, it's a good way to save water so long as you live alone or live with someone who is understanding. It can be kind of gross if you share a house with someone.
I have been carrying my backpack around and I tell them I don’t want any bags!!!! I already carry a straw but I always forget to tell them no to straw before they bring them to the store 😭😭 I am trying to do better!!
Lately I have been using my leftover bottles that have a small enough spout to help drain paint from some items or for a dog water bottle to take it from the fridge to their bowl.
Hey Shelby I love taking my own cutlery but I did change to living more sustainably when long term travelling and then bamboo cutlery is a great as you can take it on a plane. But first use and take what you got! Love your videos !!
My family thinks I'm weird too. I wasn't really zero waste when I lived with them but I'd recycle everything I could, attempted to regrow a couple of things, tried to make things like jam or muffins before produce would go bad, and pick up trash from around their pond. My sister bought reusable straws (for the house since she never remembered them going out). I was criticized for it even though I was trying to do the right thing.
also washing your clothes less and letting them airdry instead of putting them into the dyer makes them last longer. So again: money saved and less waste :) I like your video!
Im that teen that wears clothing more than once and people have called me gross, I've always been that person that gets two or three uses out of clothing before cleaning it. Never realized i was helping the environment just thought it was a bit easier.
I think it's really funny the way you "roast" your family (I wouldn't even call it that because it's just being real... our families are the people that drive us up the wall the most, right??) because I feel kinda similar about mine. I went vegan, none of them are, my parents still buy bottled water - which is not quite as bad here in Germany I think because we have "Pfand" and don't throw away most of our bottles - and use these horrible capsule coffee machines where you put these little plastic pots in and get one (!) mug of coffee out of it. It doesn't even taste good!! Why would you do that?! To be fair my mom knows that's bad and is looking to replace it but... yeah. There's still a way to go :)
Just FYI, when you regrow vegetables and put it in plain water, the new vegetables won't have many nutrients because plants pull nutrients from the soil. You could add liquid fertilizer if you wanted to though.
When I forget my grocery bags at home I usually ask for a paper bag instead. I know its not good because it uses trees but they can be recycled. as well as I live in a city with a compost program so I use the paper bag for my compost it smells less than putting it in plastic container given by the city.
I loved going to clothing swaps when we lived in Texas. I have tried to start clothing swaps here in small town nc, but only a couple of people seem interested and I would have to pay to rent a building because none of the local bigger buildings would let us use theirs for maybe 2 hrs a month :/
I've been working on refusing straw and plastic bags but it's such a struggle, I get distracted a lot, I'll be looking at my phone in the checkout line, I'll look up and the two small items i bought will be in a plastic back -_- I tell them to take it out but Idk if they actually reuse it. I've just started doing self checkout as much as possible.
You are amazing.. I love the way you provide very clear thoughts in a very effective way, videos full of valuable informations, thank you for that! Btw I have the same thing with my family, they just don't even try to get the point. I wish I could understand their perspective, it pisses me off so much
OMG MY MOM DOES THAT. I live in NY so we have a bag charge WHICH I LOVE and they will ask “need a bag” AND I JUMP IN AND SAY NO BC LIKE WE BOUGHT ONE THING WE CAN CARRY IT she says “well I’m not going to bring you places if you won’t let me get a bag” ALSO IGOT HER TO BRING BAGS TO THE STORE
I use the plastic shopping bags as bags for the bathroom bins so we don’t just throw them out without a purpose though we have slightly but back on taking bags 🛍
I really wish I could walk or bike to places but I live in Central Florida and as many of us know FL is NOT pedestrian friendly. Everything is sprawled out making nothing quick and convenient to walk to unless you HAPPEN to live right next to a plaza. On top of that, it's super hot majority of the year and I'm not into sun cancer. I try to make up for this by not always using my car to get from one side of a mall to another. Maybe one day I'll live in a city/town that was planned better....
Let’s remember also that the new canvas shopping bag you haven’t bought yet has an incredibly big footprint (takes lots of water/energy to make the cotton and the bags) so it’s WAAAAAY better to reuse bags you already have or make your own from clothing. I read somewhere that you’d have to use one canvas bag nearly 200 times before it’s as eco-friendly as one plastic bag. 🙈 Just use what’s already around you. Also, a friend taught me how to reuse water by putting a bin in the sink to catch it after washing hands/produce etc, and then dumping it into the top-loading washer for the next use. So smart!! Not sure if this would work for front-loaders. 😉

Aren't we supposed to be washing our fruits and vegetables before we eat them?
Rinsing produce doesn’t do anything though. The closest you can get to disinfecting produce is if you’re going to be cooking it in hot temperatures
I hope you guys read this. Don't beat yourself up if you get one plastic bag if you forgot yours and have a bunch of things. Make sure you're careful with it, so, that way you can donate that bag or those bags to a homeless shelter, a thrift store, or you can reuse it. (also doggy bags.)
The key is to work your way down from a consumer's standpoint. Be strong!! Good luck on your journey, everybody!
Many grocery stores have recycling bins specifically for plastic bags in their cart area. Use those if you use bags!
I love that you mentioned not washing clothes until they really need it. One additional benefit: clothes actually last longer when you wash them less!
I do the same except with tank tops because I don't like the bulk of the sleeve of a tee shirt under it. Plus it keeps me warmer in Winter!
Cool tip!!! 💕
Daisy 🌼✌
I do the same!
same
@@faeriesmak you just saved the life of my tank tops lol
I love it when you "roast" your family, I feel it makes you very relatable! Most of us aren't surrounded by people who share our beliefs and it's so frustrating at times, so it's wonderful to know that we are not alone 💕 I loved this video, as always!
"I'm not going to buy this if you're not going to let me get a bag"--then I guess you didn't need the first thing that much, either, now did you?? 🤣
tryna make my school add the ecosia extension on chrome on all the computers :)
That would be amazing (:
Ciara Corroon i love that! you’re amazing!
one small step at a time!
I wear my socks for several days, never have smelly feet. Give it a try.
@@hermosapresidenta3931 you see i would, but i work at starbucks and my shoes and socks get really gross and sometimes really wet so i have to
As long as my clothes aren't really sweaty or dirty I hang them up at night so they air out and re wear them, I like to kind of alternate between two sets of clothes because I've read it's good to let them hang up for a day between wears so the bacteria from sweat die off, better yet in the summer hang em in the sun if possible. It's what people used to do when they only had a few pieces that they looked after and mended when needed, it used to be considered really bizarre to throw clothes that weren't stained or smelly in the wash,in fact you probably would have got yelled at by your mom for that nonsense at one time, it's funny how it's the other way round now isn't it
There are people who wash their pants and shirts after ONE day?🤯 i never heard, but i‘m from Europe so maybe thats just an american thing
@@alpina4115 Ya I would say it's actually pretty common practice in America/Canada. You're generally considered lazy, dirty and or a slob if you don't.
I love that Maddison has been in a lot more of your videos lately. It’s just nice to see her.
Haha when I get hand me downs from my younger sister I call them "hand me ups" lol
Do you still live with her though?
@@h4xsama no she was visiting me
@@Monkeyingyang I already do that! I think it might be that the dryer sheets get rid of more static cling than the wool ball. Honestly though I feel like if you just give your clothes a good shaking the cling goes away. I think she's just super set in her ways.
Zullala
Compostable trash bags
This is going to sound crazy, my husband and I decided to get a portable washer and dryer. It uses a lot less water and electricity. It doesn't even need a washer and dryer hook up and it even has an eco mode!
Not crazy! Super cool.
I've been thinking about getting the foot pedal washer but maybe this portable washer will be a good idea. Because honestly I don't have the time to sit around pedaling my clothes haha
Bri Gilmore Hall thank you for telling us that this is a thing that exists!!
I've thought about this. do you have trouble washing big things like blankets? I think my washer is about to give out and I've been thinking seriously of using a portable one.
@@JohnJacobSchmidtt
Yes I didn't find it washes large items properly. I had to take them to the laundrette.
Great ideas!!! I thought of a few others whilst watching:
I like that mentioned that most people don't need straws but some do. We need them for hospital patients - especially bendy straws.
I honestly did not think I was getting much spam email, but I just unsubscribed from about 15 different places! I didn’t realize how many emails I delete every day.
SAME! So happy you were able to take that away from this video (:
I just did the same! ^^
Something a bit gross initially my greatgrandmother does: She has a bowl in her sink and a bucket near the toilet. When she washes her hands, the water catches in the bowl, then she pours the water into the bucket and flushes with it the toilet. It's reducing drought and saving money too.
Super smart idea
Why is it gross? It’s a great way to save water.
Zero waste!
The plastic they use for food is ridiculous! It blows my mind every time I go to stores... 😔
Thank you for making a list of actually FREE things to do. I agree with all of them and am doing some of them already! Thanks for sharing :)
The Levi's company president did a talk about not washing jeans at all.
I always thought everyone wore denim a few times before washing
I wear jeans for like a month before washing if they're not sweaty or smell bad. Then I wash them inside-out. I basically have a capsule wardrobe so I have a new outfit almost every day that works with the jeans. I doubt anyone pays attention though.
great video! i feel like you make really unique videos that really convey how this isnt just a cute trend for you. And youre so right that so many of these also save us time and money - ive always found line drying superior in that its much gentler than the dryer.
I do that too. Great tip!!!!
Lucky to be able to be in the sunshine state. Humidity sucks so bad though 😂
Daisy 🌼✌
Thx for mentioning Ecosia, love that search engine
In California they charge you 10 cent if you ask for a bag and you now don't get a straw unless you ask for it. This makes me feel happy.
You are very inspiring to me, thank you 💙
Yes! Also (I dont know if you live in a cold climate) layering helps with optimal warmth :)
I forgot people get free bags at the grocery store when they check out. Where I live you need to pay .10 cents if you want a bag at any grocery store also walmart and target. Also ross. Yes at first it took us some getting used to, but now it is not that hard. If I forget a bag then I just throw the items in my purse and since I carry pretty big purses then it is no big deal
Or just carry it in my hand.
As a plus size girl, I appreciate your videos and how you are confident enough to make them and put them out into the world.
My family and I really like Snapple’s so we wash and save the bottles ❤️❤️
I love all your tips on saving the environment and money! Thanks for sharing.
I worked at my local big lots and the people there would always make a big deal about me not giving them a bag for their PACK OF GUM.
I felt as if I was going crazy having to deal with those people.
And they would always complain if I put "too many items" in a single bag.
I recently found your channel and love it so much. I already ordered from earth hero and are making changes to my life. Thanks for all the good ideas!
Thank you I added Ecosia - love zero waste - tough to do at the grocery stores here
Ecosia is really cool. I use it all the time and I don't even notice a difference
love your headband!!! Love the sriracha sauce squirt bottle idea, clever! Love all the ideas actually. Thanks for the video!
I LOVE Ecosia!! They're amazing, I've planted like 100 trees through them and it's such an easy switch :)
Also, save for special circumstances like work uniforms etc, if you’re washing your clothes more than once a week, maybe rethink on why you’re washing them so often and see how you can change that
LOVED this video! SO many easily attainable goals that make zero waste lifestyle a little easier :)
Just a quick pointer on the washing machine hack. Our clothes do contain plastics and everytime we wash them it goes straight in to the drainage system and effects our seas
I downloaded Ecosia a couple months ago and have already planted 350 trees!
Don't forget that you can actually hand wash small items when you shower or on your sink. (don't keep the water running the hole shower)
I use Ecosia on my phone now. I love it!
Getting a second hand bicycle with a trailer for my transportation was one of the most revolutionary changes in my life: 1) free transportation 2) exercise & good mood 3) no pollution!
i’ve heard of ecosia before from another youtuber! it sounds cool! this is a rly helpful vid!
Such clever ideas. You're my new favourite RUclips person.
I love the idea of regrowing produce from scraps but I don't have a green thumb so I need to research it in more depth for sure 💚
I just have to say that I LOOOOVE your channel and just cannot get over how many excellent ideas you have! Thank you for sharing :)
This is one of those videos you can rewatch and keep learning. Thanks
PS: I forgot to say that I really liked your tip on regrowing vegetables, that’s a really good idea and I shall definitely have a go at it :-)
I live in Denmark, when it comes to plastic bags, you have to pay for them.
Love your videos !!
yayy i just found your channel and i love it!! i already do a lot of these things, but i got a couple of new ideas as well. thank you! ❤️🌾
Yesss! Free zero waste swaps. Many ytimes we buy other things but reusing and creating is far more sustainable!
the sriracha idea is sososo good!! thank you so much!
You should do a video on how to grow the food scraps. Really enjoyed the vid.
These tips are amazing, thank you for sharing! ❤️
Your videos are just good reminders to be more mindful. ✌️☮️🌳🌳
also washing your clothes less and letting them airdry instead of putting them into the dyer makes them last longer. So again: money saved and less waste :) I like your video!
Im that teen that wears clothing more than once and people have called me gross, I've always been that person that gets two or three uses out of clothing before cleaning it. Never realized i was helping the environment just thought it was a bit easier.
I need more of this. Great video ❤️❤️
most of the cups my parents had when i was young were reused mustard glasses
You could add liquid fertilizer if you wanted to though.
xthexcolorxredx I’ve found that a handful of compost in the water solves this problem.
When I forget my grocery bags at home I usually ask for a paper bag instead. I know its not good because it uses trees but they can be recycled. as well as I live in a city with a compost program so I use the paper bag for my compost it smells less than putting it in plastic container given by the city.
Ecosia will be perfect for me because I am constantly Googling stuff
I am so reusing my siracha bottles now!
You are amazing.. I love the way you provide very clear thoughts in a very effective way, videos full of valuable informations, thank you for that! Btw I have the same thing with my family, they just don't even try to get the point. I wish I could understand their perspective, it pisses me off so much
Great tips! We've got walking down. That's our main form of transportation.
washing cloths often also increase the amount of microplastics in the water system!
I love your widows peak!
I literally hit download on ecosia right before you started talking about it now i just feel like a cool kid
Great tips! I love to walk I've been trying to do it more often!
That's what I hate about FL :( I love to walk
Hey love! This is very inspiring!
you are a superstar! thank you for the informative video!
I've tried and failed to stop junk mail, so I use it to line my bird's cage. haha
