    I don’t usually leave comments, but really you’re doing some beautiful work, and I certainly feel grateful you’ve spent the time editing and sharing it all with us. I do watercolour, but am thinking of buying some gouache to just make the painting stronger, so I was very happy to find you. Thank you.

    • @ChrisHongArt
      @ChrisHongArt  6 лет назад +8

      aw it means a lot to me to hear that! I don't often leave comments either on people's videos I watch unless I feel very compelled to for some reason, so it's very much appreciated! hope you enjoy the gouache! ^^

    I love seeing your technique. I never thought to use gouache thin to thick before. I normally just use it thick which makes it more difficult to get just what you want.

    • @ChrisHongArt
      @ChrisHongArt  6 лет назад +18

      I have a hard time using gouache thick because I tend to use a ton of water XD too indecisive to go too thick :O I enjoy layering and building up my colours gradually ^^

    Please don't be so hard on yourself...it makes everyone else look bad 😂😂 you are soooo good at what you do. So so talented. No one can look inside your head, and see what you wanted a painting to look like from the get go. We don't see the "flaws". All we see is a finished, marvellous piece of art. 💪💕

    This looks great, I love that you chose to take a transparent approach to gouache. Too many people on this app go opaque with gouache.

    I was drawn to your channel because of this wonderful painting. As an artist, I'm also a harsh critic of my own work and I want to go back to traditional art, as I grew up taught in the digital medium. You give me the inspiration to draw more scenery, a lot of artists tend to only draw portraits so yours is extra special!

    I think your underdrawing is fantastic. No concerns at all with your "draftmanship" IMO. I was an editorial cartoonist for 11 years so I struggle with color. Would love to see a video where you demonstrate mixing the gouache colors you use.

I'm patiely awaiting for my first gouche set to arrive so I can try this medium. I really like your illustration style.

      gouache is very tricky and frustrating at first to get the hang of so don't give up on it until you've painted at least 10 things with it! lol it's all about getting that water to paint ratio just right (some ppl say like melted ice cream??) XD thanks for stopping by! :D

      Hey! yeah I hear what you're saying, unfortunately at the moment I'm limited in terms of my filming equipment ( I record with my iPhone! and I have limitations with my tripod) and when I paint I like to hold my painting in hand and move it around haha it's often never sitting in place... I really love this illustration, and it was delightful to watch and hear about your thought process as you were painting!
    One thing I liked was actually hearing how long it took to illustrate, and how fast you sped up the footage. Time always gets weird in speed paint videos, so it's nice to get that perspective.
    My experience watching this was NOT negatively impacted by not seeing you paint EVERY detail, so I wouldn't feel bad about excluding some footage due to time constraints! 😄
    Thank you so much for sharing!!! 💜

    Thank you for your videos. I love this painting and this technique a lot. I do landscape painting, and sometimes I use gouache like you did here, that is, I dilute the gouache to almost transparent but build the painting up layer by layer. If you do gouache again in this thin-layer fashion, please record it for us as I find it so interesting.
