If it's any consolation the Mona Lisa took 5 years to paint
I have some unfinished oil paintings that have been sitting around for almost that long too 😂😂
yeah, but isn't it because da Vinci repainted it many times, like the area of eyes and so on I read somewhere
edit: oh I think it was the mouth actually :D
@@ChrisHongArt There's an old oil painting of a man being mauled by a shark that took the painter 30+ years to finish. 😄
@@kuroyukiart um... I heard about it in a shark based episode of a podcast called 'The Caustic Soda Podcast'.
@@kuroyukiart I hope you like it. If I could remember when exactly they talk about it I would give you time codes but... It's been a while.
Disney should seriously hire you
She'd be the perfect fit.
I thought the same :)
yep
A younger me would've loved to work for Disney, but now I really enjoy the freedom of working for myself! 😊
When i saw the sketch your character look like she fits right into the "Goofy Movie".
I feel like as artist we are always our worst critics, you did freaken awesome I love your style and characters
Thanks so much Dayana!
It really is great. It’s just annoying watching a great edit video with a great painter and listening to her whining. Omg, it’s so negative the audio
@@danielnunes3437 As an artist that isn't whining thats seeing things we dont like in our drawings that we want to change because were not satisfied with which helps the artist improve it. But i do get ur point her art was fantastic and i see how it can get annoying.
@@danielnunes3437 I thought it was a very positive video 🤔 She's talking through her issues with the painting, finding solutions and working through them. It was very inspiring 💕
Fell in love with your art because of this video!
Kasey Golden omg kasey i’m surprised to find you in here
Omg hi kasey
Thank you Kasey! 😊
@@ChrisHongArt Haha, hi!! :D
Kasey Golden sup homie how is u?
She: I made so many mistakes and this piece looks awful by now
Me: looks good to me
😂 It's.. subtle haha you have to believe me!
blah Newman hAh I wish it was “fake modesty”, I really don’t know if you’re an artist but personally, I struggle with this a lot. We get so used to our style that even when it can look like the best painting ever to everyone else, it just feels like we didn’t put enough effort into it and whatnot. So please be understanding 😅
@@MbxAnticsYt true. also, since you're painting it, you know exactly where you did wrong and that catches all your attention, specially if you are painting from your imagination and it isn't coming how you want 😂
I personally don't see my work as cute as it may be when I'm working in it or when I finish it, but I leave it for a while and when I come back I surprise myself. I also do that when I'm feeling bad about a drawing, or a painting or even a sculpture, I just leave it and then when I go back to work in it; and i see it with the eyes of a spector, I feel refreshed and it's not that bad 😅😂
@Sharon Newman you're not an artist are you ? 😂
Sharon Newman IKR
When you talk about the faults in your art, it puts it in perspective for me on how inexperienced I am with drawing
what do you mean?
Same lmao
Table Top Friends the things she pointed out in my experience I would never notice, and I take that as a sign that I’m inexperienced because it takes time, a lot of progress and learning to see smaller and more specific faults.
@@aiweihuang440 Ooh I see
She's just pointing out the things she sees that aren't "perfect." Artists tend to pick things in their own art that could use improvement and I think we all do that time to time.
I started with Gouache and dove right into a difficult project. I took on a 24 page children’s book that paid nothing! I was dumb and agreed to split the book profits 50/50 with the author. Little did I know each piece would take over 70 hours and that gouache was such a difficult medium. Not only that, the story took place in an insanely detailed swamp.
Sadly, the book was never published. It was the author’s job to ‘sell’ it to a publisher and he got demoralized after only a few rejection letters. I believe the amount of investment each of us had was too unbalanced. It had only taken him a few hours to write, but it had taken me hundreds of hours to paint. He had too little of himself invested in it to really sell it.
At least I have those pieces in my portfolio, but I admit, I never did return to Gouache and that was almost fifteen years ago.
Whippo Morpha Chris Hong’s art has inspired me to master gouache. I used to do well with acrylic then got used to digital art and then got used to alcohol based markers. Trying to not let the stressful time of the last time I painted stop me from painting again. I hope the OP will give gouache another try. Like I’m giving painting another try. After I committed to be underpaid for a painting for an event when I could barely afford to paint it. But I did it anyways I hate seeing pictures of that painting now lol
sees gouache... and have vietnam flashbacks.. wo horrible story i hope you can give the medium a second chance
try to sell it again???
@@koala7254 it’s not really my book, even though I put in the vast majority of time and energy.
@@GeahkBurchill i see. :-/
This illustration is beautiful!!! I'm happy that you didnt give up on this, sometimes it's all worth it at the end❤
This reminds me of the setup at Disneyland’s animation studio drawing class because it has all the shelves and dolls with the cartoon brushes 😍
Dr.Drake Ramoray question mark
I know how frustrated one can be as an artist, and no-one else understands, being like "Omg what's your problem it's so good!", when it's actually not. But let me tell you, in all honesty, that's just an artwork and you have to believe me, even though your creations seem not as good to yourself as they actually are. They are outstanding really. Just very, very good job!
I am so glad there is still artists who work with paint and hand!! I don't hate computer art, some artists create amazing works of art, but hand made art is still the best for me.
Love your work
dammn! it's one of the most prettiest illustration I ever see!! I was crazy when I look at the thumbnail, I'm still crazy...come on u're an awesome artist!
be confident u are badass!!
The lighting, the colors scheme, the idea, it's just amazing! Very talented!
I relate to this whole video when you talk about putting pressure on yourself and worrying about showing an amazing WIP then not making a WOW finished. About not painting from joy and rather feeling as if it's a chore. Part of me is happy to pressure myself because, there are too many artists out there that they just draw from joy and don't challenge or pressure themselves much and their style/skill doesn't evolve for a long long time. I don't want to be one of those artists. But I get SO ANGRY when a piece that should take me like 30mins-1hr takes me days, weeks, or months because I have to train my eye to study somethings for the piece or I didn't start the piece in the proper workflow and jammed myself.
Keep making videos like this Chris! I'm a self taught artist with no art friends and these make me so happy to hear a hard-working, developing, struggling, artist to relate to.
Thanks for your comment Melon Dick, as frustrating as it can be, I really do enjoy challenging myself too! ☺️
"there are too many artists out there that they just draw from joy and don't challenge or pressure themselves much and their style/skill doesn't evolve for a long long time. " Totally agree, I'm one of those ! I think it's because when we see your work we are like "I will never reach that level" so we just enjoy ourselves, but I'm glad great artists continue to improve, it's inspiring !
That said, I tkink being always on pressure to make a great art isn't productive, I have a friend who's really good (far better than me) but when we worked together he didn't send us any sketch because "it isn't good enough" while I did a lot ; it wasn't great but people liked it, and at least, the work was done ; It's difficult to find the good balance between challenging and enjoyement :/
Sorry for bad english, have a nice day :)
@@unkykun Your English is fine and your artistic experiences ring true. Keep up the good work and the good fight. Artists who claim it all came easy to them are either liars or bad artists. Chris Hong has my admiration; not only for her gorgeous art, but because she is so willing to share her problems and insights for solving them.
#Melon Dick What you say is truth and your experiences are par for the course with creative people. IMO, those "easy" pieces that should be done in a flash but take tectonic plate slowness to do are also among the best teachers you can have. I know this from experience. I certainly have had loads of pieces fight me tooth and nail--and lose. I won, and that's a feeling all artists worth their salt should know.
You need not feel that you have no art friends. I am around and there are fine artists on RUclips, like Chris Hong here who are talented, honest, and able to teach.
@@ChrisHongArt That is one of the ways you know you're an artist for real instead of just a dabbler.
This is so unbelievably beautiful 💕So many details ... I am SPEECHLESS. You should be really proud of yourself. It doesnt matter how long it takes to finish, as long as you are satisfied with the result. :)
I feel like this painting could inspire a Disney movie 😀
You should be really proud of this painting!! You have really created an interesting scene with so much details and I can't believe you manage to tie everything together!! Very impressive and interesting to watch ❤️❤️❤️
This picture is so wonderful so beautiful!!!
This is gorgeous!! I thought it was gorgeous ages ago, when you hated it lol.
You should work for Disney.
Subbed.
I think this is one of your best pieces because of the interplay of all the different objects-really good.
"That's how I spent my time painting this piece." said through frustrated laughter is so relatable. I feel so relieved to see others reflecting on similar mistakes I make :D
First I thought it was in digital...And it's really incredible for traditional art.
The cat is also an artist and they are making art together!!! 🥰 aw my heart! The light, the color, this turned out amazing ❤️
the way you apply the colors so skillfully and build up the painting is SO satisfying to watch. This drawing is so stunning!!
A fantastic painter that I follow, who is also fluent in digital art, said that the digital process is “less inspiring”. That’s no slight to digital artists-there’s work in that too. But traditional art will really push you, and that’s why I think it’s important to keep it alive. The gouache piece came out beautiful.
something i learned from my art teacher was if something doesn't work and you feel like every thing you do to the painting is just making it worse then its time to take a break , leave the painting for the day or even a few days and by the time you come back to work on it you feel different and you see it in a different light.
your art is AMAZING and so inspiring !!
Okay... Who are you, and how do you not have a million subscribers???!!! This has to be one of THE most MAGICAL paintings I have ever seen. Ever. I'm mesmerized. I don't subscribe to things often, but I subscribed to your channel just because of this video. I am in absolute awe. I wish I could paint like this! Wow. WOW.
awesome illustration I can all the effort and time it took you If I can say something is that if you could plan your light sources first then you can know how to place the shadows more as a group than as separate objects.here its hard to see whats the main source of light of many objects and they dont look unified.awesome for going through this you have learnt a lot from this for sure!
This is so pretty!! I love how much joy is in this!
I absolutely love this painting and I’m so glad you decided to finish it. 😍
This painting was amazing to see come together. Please never stop painting 💕
you're back! i missed your videos so much 🤧💕
90% she feels unsatisfied WHILE
me says it's perfect
Sameee😁
Chris, you're so humble. he piece is awesome and I loved watching the process. Thanks so much!
This video made me finish some projects that I hated so much. This is more than the finish product but the journey of an artist that I believe everyone experiences. Thank you so much for this.
Wow! I cannot begin to tell you how much this video meant to me. Watching you transform this piece to the spectacular end was so transfixing, and then hearing you share the struggles and emotion roller coaster you experienced was soooo validating as a fellow artist who is not as experienced and productive yet. Thank you! I am glad I watched that. Would love to buy a print! 👌🏼🤩
Thanks so much Adaminbal!😭❤️
It's so helpful to hear about your thought process as you're making your paintings
This is sooooo amazing! The way you relate your feelings while making it is so accurate and you work looks perfect!
Also this painting is beauuutifullll- I loved seeing the process, hearing your story, and watching your journey
It takes lots of guts to do this...
Amazing... lovely.... . I don't have words to express myself ... . Hat's off..
I absolutely love your art 💖
It may have took you longer than you wanted but in the end it came out beautiful 😊 u inspire me.
Don't be so hard on yourself. all the mistakes you see are only in your eyes. you're an amazing artist and should enjoy it every step of the way! remember why you started!!
It looks so cozy!
this painting is really cute, i love all the details you put into it!
the detail in this piece is incredible!

3 months that are very much worth this masterpiece. you're amazing! 🌸
Your videos are great. I love that you're not scared to share your struggles. It helps realise that it's not all just smooth sailing even for someone as talented as you!
This looks so amazing, it is so beautiful!
That you for sharing your struggles. You don't understand how much it helps encourage new artists such as myself.
You have such incredible creativity! All the planning really pays off when you create works that can calorie our imagination as we spend a long time really discovering all of the details.
I can’t decide what I like more, the colors or the illustration itself. Amazing piece!
This is so beautiful and magical!
Glad that RUclips suggested this video to me. I love your art, and your real ness about the art. You’re an amazing artist!!
This piece is incredible Chris!!! I absolutely adore your style 💖 and don't stress, the time you put into your paintings pays off. I take forever with my work too, but i'm always happier with it in the end when i take my time.
Some of us just take a little longer than others, it's not a bad thing, it's just the creative process 💖💖
I love seeing the art supplies and little creatures in this painting - they’re all so cute! Your details are amazing. You really put thought and planning into your artwork.
Your painting is so beautiful and magical.thanks for explaining the step by step process of the painting!☺️
love your skills! You have a major eye for illustration! Keep it up!
That's so pretty! You did an amazing job and I think the colors and shading are great!
I love it! So many details!😍😍😍
I absolutely love ur style and u def got the magical feel!!
Your Artworks are AMAZING!!
This piece really amazes me, I'm so glad you stuck with it and finished it! And that you added those paint blobs at the end, they really add something. Even though you struggled I think you managed to bring everything together nicely!
This is so creative and beautiful!
This is so lovely! So many different happy things going on in this.. Love it! 😍
Whatever you're doing and whatever your process is - it's perfect.
Soooo cuuuute! Love the colors and use of light!
This painting was so awesome!!
Absolutely incredible design and process 🖤
Absolute... very best art video I have EVER seen. You did it again, Chris!
It is just Amazing Chris!!
Such an amazing piece TT
You made a good idea adding the dripping paint. This illustration is beautiful! You did a great job!
This is so adorable!
This is so cute! And it was very interesting hearing how you went through sorting out why you didn't like it and how to fix that.
I love the art cart with the shop towels!
Wow I have never seen art like this and it is beautiful! 😍
Your painting is so on point I love it 💗
Your painting is very clear and smooth and also bright , there's this symphony
around once a month I’ll come back to this video consistently - it’s my favourite paining I’ve ever seen frok the past decade. Thank you for creating this, i one day hope that I can buy a copy
I really appreciate your honesty in this video, a lot of the time artists on RUclips seem picture perfect and to never struggle with their work, which isn't reality. Love your work❤️
this is the most beautiful art piece i have ever seen
Just stunning!! Everything is so smooth! I love the little dolls btw they’re too cute 😫💖
It's alive and magical...loved your work, felt like going back to the old Cartoon Network and Disney.I can literally feel you for the art block that you had... I was going through the same phase for quite some time now. I just felt that this video was so relatable but at the end you literally conquered those bad feelings about the work this was very inspiring to me.Keep up the great work!🌹❤️.
The lightening in the painting is amazing, everything feels so real while still looking cartoony. I love it so much
i love the whole piece so too much!!
You're art is just stunning!
You are the epitome of why I'm consistently in awe of artists! This piece is absolutely amazing!
This painting is adorable…I love watching the process and know that sometimes it is ok to just walk away and come back to it.😊
Seeing other people struggle with there paintings makes me feel better not in teasing way but in a way where I don't feel so bad for struggling with personal art. I had a piece that I started at the beginning of the year in which I had restarted it almost five times but I really wanted to finish it lets just say I had the idea sense 2017 started it in march 2020 and it took me in till July to finish it.
I think the issue I had with it is that I just didn't plan it out very well, I think if I did more planning it wouldn't have been such a huge struggle to finish but I think that's also a good thing it took me so long to realize it, too because it would have felt like I learned nothing from doing it. Sometimes the paintings you think that are going to be straight forward end up being the hardest. (You wouldn't believe how many times that painting made me cry. Lol)
I love it!! I am in love with your artstyle
