Not sure if you guys gives a damn but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can stream all of the latest series on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my brother recently :)
I have not enjoyed using gouache because for me it's a lot of work. When I see your wonderful process I realize that it's actually supposed to be a lot of work, - that it takes a lot of work to get 'there'. I was under the impression that you had to achieve everything quickly and accurately, - that overworking or correcting led to mush. Now I see that persistence pays off. Thanks for showing all the details in the way you work. It's very encouraging and your work is wonderful.
It is possible to deaden your paint. You have to be strategic in how you apply it and understand layering to get that luminosity--not just tired paint.
I'm very struggling with gouche right now! I came from watercolor...and you know, you need water, and when I see many Artist using gouche in opaque technique, with a few water, literally feel very frustrated, I feel like I'm dying, I feel anxious, OMG! Its horrible! Because gouche its not the same like watercolor, its seems a little like watercolor, but it's not!and how can I switch my brain from watercolor to gouche?that is the question!🙈😵🤯
Sorry I stole your line. I only read the comments after my comment had been made. They do look so real and so juicy and yet obviously a painting - everything combined to make a blooming masterpiece.
Thanks to the dog , the angle is even better to me at the end. Wonderfull work, love to do this kind of studies, i should do more, and your work is pushing me to start some new ones.
Beautiful. When looking at other gouache painting I was really not impressed but your painting is simply beautiful. It is something that encourages me to try it. thanks
Hi Heather, I'm quite new to your channel and just wanted to acknowledge how gifted and skillful you are. I'm a gouache artist too, and what I would give to produce work as beautiful as yours 🙏 I try hard every day. 😕 Thanks for sharing. Kindest regards, Mary from Australia 😎🤗
Wow, Your work is awesome. Your light is so beautiful. Seems like your paper stays wet a long time too. I love how it works. Well balanced. Thank you for sharing.
Wow! This piece looked great at almost every part of the video. You could’ve stopped and it still would’ve been a beautiful painting…as good as any oil painting! Love it! Mostly in one color, but have started to use gouache in the backgrounds and in the details a bit. You have made me more interested in pursuing gouache, or at least in a mixed media painting for now. I also love still life and can hardly find any being done in Watercolour don’t know why… Thanks so much for sharing.
Wow, if you scan through stopping like every two run-time minutes, you can really see, particularly in that farthest right slight visible on the model, how the quality and direction of life changes, changing that shadow tone quite a bit throughout the session.
What's your tip for "seeing" all the different colors? Peels just look yellow and white to me, no green/blue. The shadows also look gray. I always have trouble mixing colors because I can never "see" colors right.
Awesome! New to gouache. Questions: Can you use mediums for blending with them? Do the pallets become real messy fast? Do they mold? Are they permanent when dried? Can you finish with a varnish? THANKS!!
Sorry for the late late late response. I use an assortment, honestly I just go into the store and feel for a watercolor brush with a little bit of bounce. The synthetic flats work great!
Just found this! Awesome. The translucent quality and overall painting is something I didn't know you could achieve in gouache. Do you always us freshly squeezed paint or reconstituted? My gouache tends to get an ugly top of fuzz when trying to keep them moist in a closed tight palette.
I use various brands. I do have a set on jerry's artarama that I picked all the colors for www.jerrysartarama.com/heather-ihn-martin-signature-turner-design-gouache-sets but there aren't many brands that I dislike.
Watching you paint this is art itself. Perfectly performed, just like the music. Pretty much ruined my self esteem lol think I just go back to draw with my pens, I can handle those. Or I just need to find easier tutorials and type beginner in the search bar lol.
Patricia Heller mine have never cracked, even old paintings on lesser quality paper that have been tossed around, and I am not worried about it. Maybe it’s because I work in very thin layers at first. I would be more worried using very thick paint.
Great painting, thank you for sharing! I was wondering how you keep your paints so soft. Did you add fresh paints to your palette before the painting session, or do you have a trick for keeping them juicy but not crumbly and dry?
Yes, i put small amounts into watercolor cups which dried as I expected they would but reconstitute ok with water; maybe the secret is using those for the washes and using the gouache fresh from the tube for the more concentrated color? Could use some help with this too.
Ahhh I'm so sorry for my super super late response, I don't respond to comments very quick here lol. I will say though that I squeeze out any wells that are lacking paint (usually ultramarine blue or Lemon yellow because I go through them fast), but the rest are there all the time. I spray them often and well with water to keep them from drying completely. The true key is to paint almost every day and they won't ever dry up haha
I'm liking the look of gouache more and more these days. Wonderful work.

Best looking oranges I’ve seen in awhile. And, I love the choreographed music. Thank you!
Everyone loves a good orange!
The confidence of your brush strokes is astounding, that’s what really makes this piece for me!

Yeah I think gaouche's ugly phase lasts a bit longer

How do you keep your gouache in a palette? Mine always cracks and falls off
What brand gouache do you use?
And because of thiiiiis, you made me click on subscribe 🥺👉🏻👈🏻
I have always heard that if you have too many layers of gouache it could crack when dry? Beautiful painting.
Patricia Heller mine have never cracked, even old paintings on lesser quality paper that have been tossed around, and I am not worried about it. Maybe it’s because I work in very thin layers at first. I would be more worried using very thick paint.
How do you keep them so juicy? They aren't the same once they have dried out but yours are gorgeous here. x
