I am also in my first semester and experience all these emotions! I had to repeat fundamentals by .2 of a point because our instructors don't round. I'm constantly asking myself if I chose the right path! But I know I'm meant to be a nurse. I have been doing exactly what you have- the study guides, chapters, PowerPoints, RUclips and practice questions. I'm hoping things go much better this go around. Good luck, girl! You got this.

I’m a RN, I understand where you are coming from. I was always an A student. Nursing school is hard for a reason. Not everyone is capable of completing it. Please be proud of your grade a high B is awesome. I questioned nursing my 1st semester as well it was rough. I completed nursing school with straight sting high Bs. It wasn’t what I want but I worked really hard for those Bs. Been a nurse for 11 years about start my masters program

@@ForeverYours0727 A's, B's or C's still equals R.N. That being said some instructors are harder than others. When I was teaching, our head of the program always received the most comments about her tests being so hard. I felt they were too hard, but her motto was to avoid teaching to the test. You may have one of these types this rotation. The way you are studying, you got this, I can tell. Edit: With students who had studied hard as you, I found the way they took the test was the problem. Don't change your answers, stop studying the night before, drink an alcoholic beverage when studying (one, only one!) and get your test anxiety under control. You have the knowledge, don't mess up due to anxiety

Although we were in lockdown at the time we all jumped on discord. Which was super helpful and made me feel less embarrassed to potentially ask classmates “dumb” questions. Hi Kaleigh!
I never comment but I wanted to give you a virtual hug! I’m a third year resident physician (in my last year of training, just landed my first big doctor job) and I relate to this soooooo much. I struggled with testing throughout all of med school- and yet outshined my peers who were stellar test takers in the clinical setting. Residency same thing: my practice board exams have been SO frustrating and I have NOT been scoring well… but have been recommended for chief residency, teaching jobs, and have some of the highest scoring clinically in the program. Am I busting my butt to study? Hell yes! But I also know these tests are a separate beast to real practice. YOU ARE NOT YOUR TEST SCORE. Don’t beat yourself up, don’t be discouraged. Rest when you need to (it doesn’t matter if you “study” for 12 hrs straight if you only retain 1 hr worth of material because you’re exhausted), eat good food, and don’t give up!!!! We’ll be just fine 😉❤️

Sweet girl!!! Nursing School was the single hardest thing I have ever done! I have always been very good at taking tests (I have a great memory), but I found out real quick that NS is not just “memorizing facts and figures”. I am sure your instructors have said “critical thinking” so many times you’re probably sick of hearing it - but it is so true. I truly know how you feel with your grades!! CRNA school - whoo girl!! Remember this - not only will you need good grades, but my personal suggestion for you (if you get a chance to choose where to intern) is in the OR or ICU. (Do not know if this is a national policy or state policy where I live), but before a CRNA can work in the OR, they have to spend a certain amount of time in the ICU prior to going to the OR. I am an OR circulator with 8 years OR experience prior to becoming an OR RN, and even then… I apologize for this being so lengthy, but my former NS heart just goes out to you!!! I love you!! You are not stupid!!! I believe in you!!!!

I was a bedside nurse for 7 years. I’ve been a CRNA for 3- so I feel confident in saying, YOU GOT THIS! Yes, your undergrad grades matter, in that they don’t want someone who barely scraped by, but what they really focus on in those interviews is your ICU experience. Don’t be so hard on yourself! It gets easier. Nursing school sucks for everyone

Kayleigh, FIRST I can relate to all of this so much, it brings back awful memories. Lol I have horrible test anxiety as well and let me tell you, it was a very rare occasion that I ever walked out of a nursing exam feeling great about it. There was an exam practically every semester that almost the whole class would fail, and then tests that we would end up doing great on. Nursing exams are a learning curve. Once you get the basics and learn how to answer based off of ABC's and Maslow's Hierarchy of needs, you will do just fine. *What will kill the patient quickest* All of your study techniques are ones that I did as well, so I think you're doing great. I also bought a white board and would pick a topic and see if I could teach it to myself, basically.
After lots of podcasts, RUclips videos, Quizlets, etc., your confidence will go up. Practice select all that apply questions! Get a comprehensive NCLEX review book.
I know you have high expectations for yourself, but I would spend less time worrying about future opportunities (CRNA) and try to be grateful for the one you are currently living....(Do as I say and not as I do, hahah) If I could go back, that would be advice I would want to give myself. You WILL reach your goals, so don't give up. I could go on and on about this, but I'll stop. lol you are doing things right, it just takes time. You're literally learning how to save lives. I believe in you!
I've been a nurse now for a little over two years, and it seems like yesterday that I was in your shoes.

Learned to deal with it in my own ways but this nursing school program is really getting me good! I'll definitely ask to see if they can make any accommodations for tests. That would help tremendously. U are doing great so far and all you need is to be strong and continue! So I watched it again and honestly it made me feel so much better knowing I wasn’t alone in this feeling. I think I actually had the same thing happen last semester and commented on this video at that time too🤣☠️ I try to remind myself to be kinder to myself. Also there is textbook learning and real world experience. What you learn in school will change quite a bit once you’re actually in it. We all struggle especially when it’s later in life we decide to go back to school because we have SO much more to lose then when we are in high school and living at home. I’ve been none stop going to college for 2 years including the summer with part time classes (software development so there are classes with actual web and app development projects that clock tons of hours outside reading materials and the labs to go along with those) all while working 2 jobs. Needless to say I burned myself out last semester and still continued on for this last one like that. I have decided to take this summer off. I am spent. Along with school the past 2 years I also got divorced and I bodybuild and I moved 2 times and holy cannoli!! The definition of exhausted mentally doesn’t even begin to cut it.

Bc I’ve been through that too but dang it felt good once you finish and it’s ALL WORTH IT! As a 4th semester nursing student, I would 100% recommend doing more practice questions and reviewing material from the practice questions that you missed than like sitting there and reading every word in the chapter. In theory, tests are to test your understanding not memory. That’s why I recommend prioritizing practice questions.

Girl you are doing better than you think you are! Nursing school in general is difficult, and you're in an accelerated program so it's going to be much faster/harder with how information is given to you. Don't give up tho! It will be so worth it when you are done. I've been a nurse for 10 years, and LPN and RN school were super difficult at times, and honestly a couple times I didn't think I would pass. But I made it through and so will you! I've since did RN to BSN school (much easier) and am currently in APRN school and question my choice everyday to go to grad school. One thing I learned from a lot of nurses and APRNs is they've all questioned if they could do it and at time if the even wanted to, and you know what, they all have. You will too! You are going to be an amazing nurse. Finding your study niche and getting used to nursing school tests will take time, but it will get easier. ❤❤

Nursing school is not for the faint of heart! I figured out very quickly that I don’t benefit from study groups because my brain just shuts down so I never joined them, but I learned well if I taught a friend so I had two friends throughout the program that I’d bounce studying off of.
I downloaded notability like my whole class did but realized I needed actual paper to write on. And I loved taking notes on blank computer paper. I also “taught” myself the lessons by speaking out loud to myself and talk it all through. And in the end, UWORLD was awesome for NCLEX prep, did it nonstop for 2 weeks.

Ugh yes these tests are a struggle for me. I love the classes and learning the material. It's just the tests that for whatever reason aren't working with my brain at this very moment lmao Still figuring that part out. But I do so well in lab simulation, it comes very naturally to be doing the skills. I'm more of a hands on nurse rather than a textbook nurse which I'm assuming is better in the long run xD Started out with 60 of us in the program, after last semester it's now 56, and by the end we will not all make it to graduation. I had a friend who did this same advanced program a year ago and she said about half the class either dropped out or failed, yikes :( So it's definitely pretty hard core but I have faith in myself that I can get to the end!

Okay so I have some tips for you. I’m in my last semester of nursing school and this may not work for evryone but it worked for me and my friend. 1. You need to be mentally ready to be prepared for anything. Whether that is good, bad, or horrendous news. You need to learn to roll with the punches because I promise you, something will always come to kick you in the ass in nursing school. After learning this mentality, I was able to let things bother me less and continue studying the way I need to without constantly thinking/worrying about it. 2. I suggest reviewing before class. I hate the textbook so I personally don’t read it but what I do is watch nurse Sarah or someone else before the lecture, then pay attention in lecture. Then that same day, review the recording and the notes I made so the next class time, I can ask any questions I have or email it to the teacher so she can respond in person if she hasn’t already so I’m not behind on material. 3. Try to pace yourself and don’t fall behind. You should be done with the material 2-3 days before the exam and just doing questions and reviewing the notes for the last few days. 4. It’s okay if you didn’t get the grade you want. I feel like every time I expect something, it turns out worse than I expect so I go in with the mentality that, okay, I studied to my hardest capacity, let’s hope my grade reflects that. If it doesn’t, give yourself the day to be upset and then move on. 5. Your first semester will be the absolute hardest and the second will be the 2nd hardest LOL. The first semester you are learning how to answer nursing style questions and obviously you won’t do as well as you want because your brain isn’t used to answering questions that way. But the more questions you do, you’ll see a natural progression and a slight pattern. As for your second semester, this for me the hardest cuz like you, I was taking patho pharmacy, med Surg, and a bunch of other classes and when I tell you med Surg is hard. It’s FUCKING HARD. I also found that it required a diff study technique than fundamentals. Which was inconvenient cuz here I am thinking, oh I know how to study then med Surg hits and your fucked. But med Surg is ALL ABOUT QUESTIONS. Review the material but you learn more from questions cuz it’s more in depth and you can see where you are struggling. So I spent 2-3 days doing questions and a quick review the night before the exam to remember any last minute material. Those are all the tips I can think of. Hope that helps!!!
