Brilliant! Fair play for uploading it. Think most of us make bodge ups at some point but that's how we learn.

Every day is a learning day with modelling for railways.

      Certainly is...
Maybe I was just a little flustered with filming.
I know to use 50/50 mix... I'll use a spray next time to dampen the ballast.

Good on you for uploading this video! We all mistakes and our mistakes make us better. It's also inspired me to make some "how to" videos in the future as I'm also less experienced at model railways and it can be fine to just upload it even if you mess up. Also you should definitely use a syringe as although it will take longer it will create less mess and you can usually buy syringes quite cheaply. Well done for a great video forgetting the mess at the end!

I did question whether to upload this video or not, infact it was filmed a week ago and had been sat on my hard drive!
But in posting it, it shows that errors can and do happen...
It also gives me the chance to show that they can also be sorted out also.

Every day is a school day mate! The other track looks good so I'm sure you'll get there! I think as others have suggested, get a little dropper to keep the pva mix a little more controlled and you're away!

I did the other track fine yeah 😂
I'll be spraying the ballast next time and using a dropper for sure!

it didnt turn out great but having said that respect for posting the video. If you dont really know what your doing then how are you to learn without making the odd mistake. you dont see many people admit it
Id suggest maybe putting the ballast down , squirting it with a spray or water and if you can get some syringe off amazon and use that. far less mess and controlled.
    Keep the vids coming

It turned out terribly! But I'm a complete newbie and as such mistakes will get made.
I've posted the video for two reasons, 1.) So other beginners don't repeat the same mistakes and 2.) So more experienced modellers can have a laugh at my expense! 😂

Hi, an interesting experience for you. Practice makes perfect. May I suggest using a teaspoon to apply ballast then the glue. The spoon gives you control. Many advocate using a spray of water and a drip of detergent to damp ballast first, then apply glue. Hoping thats helpful.

Practice does indeed make perfect, funnily enough the other track I did a few weeks back went ok!
I'll certainly be using water to spray the ballast as that'll stop it from washing away/about like it did...
The main issue was getting the water and PVA mix wrong.
With regards to using a tea spoon, I've heard about using one, but how would you go about using it?
I need to find a more measured way off adding the ballast on, save spending an hour brushing it about the place (again).

Sandwell Junction Hi, glue mix should be around 50:50 water glue with a drip of detergent, ( not a squirt). Like condensed milk or single cream.
Regarding the teaspoon, you tap the spoon on something so tiny bit of ballast falls, tap the track. The vibrations cause the ballast to jump then settle, the idea is to clear the tops of the sleepers. Any stubborn bits can then be tidied with a brush. When gluing I use a tiny amount of glue and do as you did, but bc there is a small amount you cant flood it so much. Tiny drips. You mentioned a pipette this is a great idea, available from Amazon, very cheap. I advice against a syringe as they squirt and disturb the ballast.
I would strongly advise watching ballasting videos. Everard Junction, Dean Park, Charlie at Chadwick, all done videos. The latest Ive seen from Lakeside,(Graham Foulston). All offer excellent advice. .Hoping thats helpful.

Mistakes get made, like I said in the video... I'm making the mistake so others don't have to.
