I remember as a kid I ended up being annoyed by the real life birds chirping so I had to change the alarm 😅 Edit: I found my sweet spot with the radio-alarm, I wake up with people chatting and stuff
But it works :) Some cats also vomit early in the morning because they haven't eaten in a while. The acid builds up in their stomach, causing irritation. I had a cat which I gave a small snack before going to bed. A cat is not supposed to vomit up their hair most of the time, so a catfriendly plant (like catgrass or catnip) or more brushing might also help.

I went from an alarm that scared me awake to one that gradually got louder and playing a melodic tune. That was great but I needed more. I found a cheap sunrise clock to try out. Long story short, I'm on my third sunrise clock. My second was for light quality. Unfortunately that one stopped working in less than a year so I had to replace it. I need to change the sound on my current one. My last one used birdsong and it was fantastic. I have been using "morning classical" playlist from Spotify as my morning alarm for 2 years now and it really is great to be woken up softly. When i used normal blaring alarm, i will always wake up confused, panicking, and my heartrate would really shot up high, giving me bad mood for the entire day. I’m always worried about those soothing. Sounds because I think I’ll feel like I’m dreaming and stay asleep lol but I’m gonna try it on a day. I don’t have to be up at a certain time. I’m so glad I found this video!
She really called me out with the example at the end lol. If asked, I say it takes me 45 minutes to get ready in the morning, but since summer started I've been finding myself late to things I'm not normally late to. I was literally wondering the other day what my problem was (because I'm really not the kind of person to be late), and this video helped me connect that my problem is I've changed my sleep schedule over the summer and I'm not adding time to actually "wake up." I'm going to give it a shot and see if it helps.
Dr. Dr.!!!OMG Dr. You saved me. I've been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety and every morning I woke up with fast heartbeat and like in a rush! Even had to take ansiolotics for that. But this video saved meeeee. I did everything you said: I changed my alarm with a nature soft sound, with progressive volume, 20 mins before actually get ready and everything disappeared. God bless you so much. I wish I could get a session with you to treat my panick attacks. ❤❤
I’ve never been OK waking up to a loud alarm clock buzz. I’ve always used a low volume radio to wake up and it definitely makes my morning start off better. Thanks for the science behind the information. 😊
Sleep inertia has been a real problem for me for the last few years. My circadian rhythm is based on sunrise. My previous employer allowed me to set my own schedule, so I could arrive at 9 am and leave at 6 (with the bonus of missing rush hour traffic). My current supervisor, a university professor, insists all employees arrive at 8 am so younger employees will show up on time 🤔. A cup of coffee no longer helps. If I wake up with sleep inertia, 80% of the time I will have a less productive day at work. Changed my alarm to music. Putting my phone out of reach so I can't hit snooze. Thanks for the tips.
My mum wakes me up by yelling... I have anxiety disorder and my already disruptive sleep (because I'm scared of mom getting sick on sleep, slight movement from her and I'm wide awake), my mom yells as if our home is set on fire and usually its when I finally get to sleep deep and nice.... her screams scare the crap out of me and always wake up with a start, throbbing heartbeat with dull ache... rest of the day, I stay agitated and groggy, and these days I get dizzy every time I stand up... My mom doesn't believe in these, but I hope she'll at least be gentler because I once gave her a taste of her own medicine and she got weak
I figured it out from years upon years of sleep issues. I have a gentle alarm that gets gradually louder but still remains pretty quiet. That always wakes me up anyways.
So cool to hear the type of sound thing validated! This was something I realized about myself years ago. The blaring wake up calls were awful and all I wanted was for it to stop. It also raised my heart rate directly after wake up.
I used to HATE waking up to the news on our radio clock. It was like shock therapy and my then boyfriend insisted on this and wouldn't let me turn it off. It used to make me SO angry. Thankfully, he's now my ex and i now never have to wake up this way ever - yes!
The best way to wake up is to wake up naturally without an alarm clock... when you had enough sleep. Which means having a good consistent sleep routine and going to bed early enough to wake up before you need to go anywhere.
If you don't want to/can't spend money on a light alarm clock, you can also download apos that use your phone screen or flashlight. It has been a game changer for me in winter.
I have my lights slowly undim to half or three quarters strength 10-15 minutes before alarms go off, and then they continue undimming fully after that. It takes a couple of months before the body starts to understand, but then it just sorta works.
I have sleep inertia for at least an hour almost daily 😴 A sleep assessment EEG showed I woke up during REM sleep and I feel like that happens more often as I remember my dreams 90% of the time. I also noticed that indeed what I wake up from influences how I feel when I wake up.
I have bipolar 2 and sleep issues. Thank you so much for all your great info! When I last worked with my psych to add a mood stabilizer, that meds pdf thingy was SUPER helpful! ♥
I found my waking up song 2 years ago and it definitely helps. It is still a big challenge while recovering from depression (2nd year) but I already manage to wake up everyday around 7 am :)
I like the idea of waking up at the same time everyday so that my body gets used to it. I will definitely try it, wish me good luck I’m a heavy sleeper 😪
I stopped using an alarm since 8th grade. I hated it. For the past 17 years, i just wake up early - 4:30 to 5am even when i go to bed late. It works for me.
I love your videos. The ones without background music are best, at least for me as I can focus on what you are saying instead of being distracted by the music.
So THAT explains it! Whenever I fall asleep to my favorite playlists and wake up to some soft, beautiful song that I’m familiar with, it just luls me awake in the best way possible
Code Geass opening Colors is my alarm. I didn’t start to dislike this song even though it's been my alarm for a long time! I do not know what it does to my brain but I adore how noisy and upbeat it is. I feel a bit bad for people in my house because they hear JIBUN WO much earlier than I do as it takes me some time to actually hear even a loud song. So, consider putting a song that you can listen endlessly as your alarm. Though, it probably should be a song that you can literally listen to at least half a day or you'll begin to hate your favorite song.
This confirms what I have been thinking. I can't stand the loud jarring alarms, but I am afraid I will sleep through sounds of nature. Right now my happy medium is upbeat music. Also, I don't remember where I learned it from, but once I wake up, it's really important to get up, stretch, and say "I'm awake". The video mentioned getting out of bed and moving, and now I understand why the previous advice works. I am going to keep saying "I'm awake" too, because I feel it makes a difference. It's affirmational, if anything.
I have made it a rule to drink a glass of water before I leave my room because we're dehydrated and that makes us hungrier. So lately, if I feel I can't pull myself out, I start drinking some of that water. Eventually, my bladder will get me up.
But what if you are a night owl and your body physically rejects the idea of waking up before a certain time ? I need to sleep until 9:30 or 10 to actually be able to handle the world but my job forces me to wake up at 8:15 which basically means that I am forcing my body day after day and this greatly affects my mental and physical health
I've been loosely following your channel for a while now, and seeing incremental changes over the years. Now, I am beyond proud of how far you've come, and how amazing your videos keep being. Thank you!
Thanks for the information! I have a Hatch alarm clock ⏰ and it is set to wake me up to a birdsong-on top of a gentle, gradual sunrise. Apparently Hatch knows what they are doing and it is worth the money spent 😅
Being self-employed has many drawbacks, but one big advantage definately is, that you don't need to wake up at certain times and be in the same place every god damn day. I never set an alarm anymore and my sleep cycle goes round and round. This weei it may be from 10pm to 6am, next week it may be from 10am to 6pm. I go to sleep when I feel for it and let myself wake up naturally. I like being active at night. Sleeping when you really want to and how long you actually need it is a huge freedom.
I used to wake up and feel groggy for the first 2-3 hours of the day, despite of sleeping 8 or even more hours, living healthy, not smoking or drinking etc. I'd often have a headache, and was irritable by any sounds. I finally got diagnosed with ADHD and got medicated (bupropion), I now wake up feeling fresh and ready to go. Just awake as soon as I open my eyes. It's crazy how much dopamine affects your brain and your life in so many aspects of it. I also have the 'sun alarm' clock and it's great in winter. for those dark mornings.
This explains a lot, today I woke up to a loud sound, I live in a building. And here it is common. I learned that to get to work early I must get up at least 1 hour and a half before and it coincides with what you explain in the video, thanks for the explanation. I have some anxiety related complications. But I see how it can be useful to a lot of people who struggle with being late for work too.
Ok, I'm guilty of using the snooze button, HOWEVER, I have it set to 5 min so I don't fall back into deep sleep, just doze. Also, I only allow myself to hit it twice. I set the alarm ten minutes earlier to accommodate for this. This is in conjunction with a sunrise alarm. Yes, I have this down to a science for my body. 5:30am is hard, man.
I love your videod, I have bpd and take seroquel for my treatment, so getting up and wake up it's difficult every morning, and even worst if i'm tired or stressed, so I love the tips for this problem
I used to have a hard time with alarms. Now I never get to wake up with any alarms, because my new dog (who is very big but with the brains of a puppy) just assaults me as soon as the sun comes up LOL Great vid tho!
I have found that holding my breath like I’m constipated briefly and spiking my adrenaline make it nearly instant. Adrenaline spikes are what cause you to wake from REM. It takes the body hours to recover from mid-rem wake-up without adrenaline. that’s why you can wake so fast when scared by a sound or dream. Cold water and caffeine also spike adrenaline. Also if someone else needs me that gets me up fast too. Movement is helpful too. Jumping jacks and pushups.
This makes so mucj sence to me! I do most of the things, but know I know how important it is to keep doing them continuesly and not slack on it! I think this will help with my ADHD ❤
Thank you so much for this! For me the sound of birds singing is the most soothing way to wake up. Apple should add a selection of nature sounds to the tunes available for the alarm clock! 😍✨
I have really really bad sleep inertia, and I'm hoping changing the sound to my alarm helps! I always figured the louder and more abrupt the better. Hopefully this works 🤩
This is a very insightful video, thanks! As someone who has had insomnia pretty much my whole life, I've read a lot about sleep, and watched a ton of videos too. I thought I had heard it all, but this video still had something new for me. Thank you for sharing! =)
Can confirm that changing from a harsh, even shrieking alarm sound to a gentle nature sound helps with getting up/waking up. My current wake-up sound for the work week is the sound of a crackling campfire. Makes me think back to my childhood when my family would go camping we'd sometimes cook over a fire instead of a camping stove.
The thing that's helped me the most has been putting the alarm further away from the bed. I can't just reach over and stop it and it forces me to sit up.
Most mornings, I wake up and I am bright eyed and bushy tailed ready to take on the day. My husband, however, takes a while to wake up. I never understood why.... now I know lol thank you!!

this is why I love the sleep cycle calculator + Endel’s smart alarm feature
My mom doesn't believe in these, but I hope she'll at least be gentler because I once gave her a taste of her own medicine and she got weak
make subwoofer lullaby by c418 ur alarm clock, and slowly fade in the alarm over a time span of 1 minute, perfect way to wake up
I figured it out from years upon years of sleep issues. I have a gentle alarm that gets gradually louder but still remains pretty quiet. That always wakes me up anyways.
I've tried an alarm thats get a radio station and increase the volume slowy, I think its working ❤❤❤
I knew it! that’s why when i was using a waterfall alarm, i was able to get up early verses the times i used songs for my alarm.
Configuring automatic light to wake up was a life changer for me
I have bipolar 2 and sleep issues. Thank you so much for all your great info! When I last worked with my psych to add a mood stabilizer, that meds pdf thingy was SUPER helpful! ♥
I invested in a gradual nature alarm clock halfway through this video
I found my waking up song 2 years ago and it definitely helps. It is still a big challenge while recovering from depression (2nd year) but I already manage to wake up everyday around 7 am :)
Jamming in my dream to "birds and forest sounds" alarm clock for 2 hours straight instead of being at work is sick, you guys should definitely try it
I like the idea of waking up at the same time everyday so that my body gets used to it. I will definitely try it, wish me good luck I’m a heavy sleeper 😪
Heavy rain sounds makes me sleepy🥱❤️
I stopped using an alarm since 8th grade. I hated it. For the past 17 years, i just wake up early - 4:30 to 5am even when i go to bed late. It works for me.
How do you wake up so early without an alarm?
@tiffanyreid9202 I have no idea... sometimes I wish I didn't but it's ok for the most part
i need cool videogame music for an alarm. Like the intro of Zelda OOT.
That's actually a good idea but I couldn't risk hating the intro later 😭
I love your videos. The ones without background music are best, at least for me as I can focus on what you are saying instead of being distracted by the music.
i was so confused when you were talking in my native language, untill i saw youtube translated it
This is why I hate to wake up at a particular time. Just let it flow natural feels much better. Great video
"Life's journey is fraught with shadows and trials. Each step you take shapes the darkness within."
So THAT explains it! Whenever I fall asleep to my favorite playlists and wake up to some soft, beautiful song that I’m familiar with, it just luls me awake in the best way possible
My alarm is a piano rendition of “Dearly Beloved” composed by Michael Tai. Been using it for nearly a decade and love it
i love her voice, and how she explain things!
Thanks for the tips - definitely going to try this starting tomorrow!
I've once heard that the alarm song is the them song of the new episode (day) of your life.
Wow thank you for letting me know that all my random and weird decisions and habits are all actually useful and recommended.
Doctor is it safe to combine remeron with lexapro? Thanks 😊
Switched my alarm from the typical nuclear siren to only vibration, no sound (other than from the vibration). Feels so much better waking up
Being self-employed has many drawbacks, but one big advantage definately is, that you don't need to wake up at certain times and be in the same place every god damn day.
Very good. Thank you!
I used to have a hard time with alarms. Now I never get to wake up with any alarms, because my new dog (who is very big but with the brains of a puppy) just assaults me as soon as the sun comes up LOL
Great vid tho!
Thank you! You’ve helped me so much ❤
I have found that holding my breath like I’m constipated briefly and spiking my adrenaline make it nearly instant.
Great information thank you! I have a very hard timr wakinh up. And when i do wake up i am extremely slow
This video is wonderful ❤❤❤ thank you!!
I wake up to Morioh Cho Radio, works like a charm
Pandora had an option to make it your alarm. Familiar and melodic, it always made staying awake easier cuz I wanted to listen to the songs
Bravo pour le travail de traduction impeccable !
This was very helpful, I struggle with this to a great degree, it has made my mental health worse.
This makes so mucj sence to me! I do most of the things, but know I know how important it is to keep doing them continuesly and not slack on it! I think this will help with my ADHD ❤
Thanks!
You’re welcome and thank YOU! 🙏🏽
Thank you so much for this! For me the sound of birds singing is the most soothing way to wake up. Apple should add a selection of nature sounds to the tunes available for the alarm clock! 😍✨
I’m going to try this tomorrow morning (it’s 1:33 am now)
that 45 minutes to 75 minutes notation at the end is _craaaazy_
Good Reminder thanks 😊👍🏻
You blowed my mind with the snooze part! Ty
This info is great, I have the problem, first I need a coffee and 30 minutes and then I can function , before I am a zombie
The thing that's helped me the most has been putting the alarm further away from the bed. I can't just reach over and stop it and it forces me to sit up.
Thanks Doc. ❤
Beautiful and helpful video, thank you!!
Most mornings, I wake up and I am bright eyed and bushy tailed ready to take on the day. My husband, however, takes a while to wake up. I never understood why.... now I know lol thank you!!
How do you wake up early. I really want to be a morning person
@@tiffanyreid9202 if I have sunlight wake me up, it's really easy! It's much harder in the winter when the sun doesn't come up
