I bought this album in 83 and it’s hardly ever gone 2 months without a spin. My 12 is playing drums and asked me the other day if I could play jump in the fire. So I’m here. Now we are playing together
Awesome! My kids haven't shown interest in playing an instrument yet but it must be really fun getting to do that when they want to play these classic tracks. Thanks for subscribing! 🍻👍
My 20 year old son plays guitar just like me, except he is into Grunge. He knows almost everything Nirvana has ever done as well as Alice in Chains. I can play all that stuff too, but I wish he would expand a little and give some Thrash a chance.
Tim, just wanted to thank you for all the Metallica vids. Your channel & method of teaching/tabs together vibes best w/ how I learn. At 53 now. Started guitar again 5 years ago slowly but cruising right along thanks to your help. I own all the vinyl records from the 80's of these to this day 🤘🏻 Don't stop!!
Thanks Tim, great lesson. +1sub. You just gave me work for weeks now... Me being more of a blues-rock, boomer bend type of player, I never really delved into faster solo playing. But for some reason I've long been obsessed with this particular song. The rhythm part has that vintage car engine beat to it, so cool. The tones are amazing: juicy humbuckers through cranked amps, screaming mids, no fancy stuff. And the solos are so appealing: pure pentatonic with that extra punch. I always thought the 2nd solo would forever be out of my league, but this year is when I am finally making that decision to level up my skills and go for it. I just registered to a 1-year program with a teacher, live (first time in my life) and I'm ready to commit to some serious challenge. It'll be make or break but at least there will be no excuses anymore. I have no idea where this will lead me to but I look forward to the journey. I will most certainly not become a metal head, yet I'm excited to learn all those new tools and enrich my vocabulary.
Thanks for subbing! Glad I can give you something to work on. This was the first song off of the album that I broke down because I've always loved the 2nd solo.
Hey Tim … just found your channel ! Very refreshing, well structured videos and learning from a metalhead makes it even more fun. Great job your doing.. looking forward in nailing my favorite Metallica riffs even better. Keep’em coming 🔥btw… I subbed 🤟🏻
you by far have the best lesson on jump in the fire. Thanks so much I have not been able to learn Jump in the fire but now I can. Keep up the good videos man.
It was a lot of fun revisiting this Metallica tune and getting the video done for you. I will be releasing a tutorial on every single Metallica song from every single album. LOL I finally made it into my favorite metal band in New Orleans. Best metal in between the Slow Doom of EYEHateGOD and the Slayer on steroids thrash of Paralysis. So we’re in the practice room Monday and realize we can play every Metallica song, whether we’ve even heard them in 20 years or not. BUT THEN: what’s been bugging me forever , when I first had the Guitar FormThe Practicing Musician or Tab book for this : on the 3rd “set of four”, on the 3rd measure, on the “and” of the 3rd beat: INSTEAD of a Db 8TH NOTE, IT HAS TWO Db 16TH NOTES. ?!? Always thought that was weird, considering James was down picking every note, why and how add that? Plus, headphones on, anything: can’t hear it. BUTT, I learned from tab, so I shredded it until I could play it and make it sound musical. So that’s why I’m here. Checking to see if anyone is trying to play that extra a 16th note that isn’t there. Cool channel though, gotta subscribe
I just checked: it’s still there. If you Google: “jump in the fire tab” and click the “Images” tab; the first image will be a pic of the Jump In The Fire tab we all grew up with Wish I could add a screenshot here.
Haha! I know exactly what you're talking about. The truth is that the 16th is there but only in the left channel. It's not super clean and I'm not sure that it was intentional and it only happens in the intro. It would have been a quick down up and it's possible that the pick just hit the string on the way back up accidentally. I hear little gallops like that here and there in their stuff but I don't make mention of it if it doesn't seem to be integral to the song. It quite often seems to be happening in Jame's channel.
Man that intro solo lick has been killing me for years 😵💫 I can play the g minor pentatonic no problem but getting that pull off on B then playing the 5th fret on G to 3rd fret on B loop at THAT speed is impossible and it's only 4 notes. Kirk and Dave seem to do that in a lot of solos. I guess I gotta practice till it bleeds. Do you alt pick it?
@@TimHolman Wow it didn't take that long! Thanks! My problem was I was pulling off too late. I put it down, came back and did what you did and got it. Now I just gotta get consistent with it. Now for the solo.👍
3:16 can someone tell me why this powerchord is written 553 and 331? I only get a sound somewhat close to as in video by only doing powerchord on 35 and 13 leaving the 4th snare out. While in the video i can clearly see hem using 3 fingers and frettingthe G5 and G3 aswell. Im lost. Please help a noob out.
Hi. Sounds like you might be used to reading tab with the top line representing the lowest string. Some parts of the world use that method but the standard that you'll find in most places is reversed, with the bottom line representing the lowest string. Think in terms of pitch. The lower the line the lower the string. In terms of how to fret the power chord there is nothing wrong with the two note version. In fact that is how James and Kirk play their power chords. This is the first Metallica video that I released and that is one detail that I didn't include that bothers me. Lol. My other metallica vids are very accurate according to how James and Kirk play them.
@@TimHolman hey thanks for the Quick and informative reply! I can see you also use 3 fingers for that powerchord, is that a habit or doese it have some use? You cant imagine how thankfull i am for your reply:)
I don't have this song available for download yet. I plan on having all the songs on my channel available at some point but no time frame on that at the moment. Going forward I'm preparing the tabs as I release the videos.
Sucks, I just don't have the speed to do this. I started old and late. I'm just beat up, slow reflexes. I can't pick that fast to keep up without getting tongue tied in the riff. Sucks

I’m really struggling with 10:40, this part doesn’t make sense at all
It's Gmin pentatonic. That's the part I struggle with the most. It's the Blues feel I find most difficult.
Which Walk down on the a string?
The walk down the A string is referring to playing frets 5, 4 and 3 in that order.

Do you just heart every comment
Is this all downpicks?
Yes, James and Kirk use all downpicks. However, I've seen Dave Mustaine play it with alternate picking so there's no strict right or wrong.
