He must've been so happy to pull it off so clean
not really pull it off more like he saved it
Yeah he prob lost a lot of time because of tire stress. Its better to go wide on the turn and take a hit if a few seconds then strain tires and have to replace them because of it.
Still looked cool af tho and will go down as the most badass overtake in Korean history
@@AndrewJ9673 clearly he went for the style points
He's a professional driver so a tiny drift would not have been a big deal.
@@sepg5084 It kinda was. Notice how the car behind them actually caught up a *lot*. Thats because drifting on pavement is pretty slow. While he was stylin’ and the red car was going wide, the car behind them both did the turn “correctly” and also overtook the car that went wide, and was able to get on the rear of our Drifter here.
It most certainly was finesse.
To be entirely honest, I think he went in with a high entry speed on purpose. I think he wanted to shake off the other car that was neck and neck with him, so he messed with the other car’s corner timing by going in at a significantly higher speed than normal. While the rest of the cars did gain on him overall, he shook his main competitor for first, so this was probably calculated in advance.
Korean here, translation:
00:16 : From here, it's a battle of who breaks last.
00:24 : It's a very dangerous section. Corner comes right after hitting pedal to the metal.
00:31 : This is very tense. The corner sits at a slight dip, then uphill follows.
00:37 : What will the driver choose? He has to take a gamble!
00:40 : Nani? Dorifutoooooooooooo~!
00:46 : This is a very rare situation.
00:50 : The white car(Lee Won-Il) got greedy while slowing down.
00:53 : Look at his godly technique. You can hardly see this even in drift race, especially with these front-wheel cars.
Thank you my boy. I appreciate you for translating

Now that there, is a proper Initial D move and reference. No unnecessary sliding, drifting, no "kansei dorifto" (Which happens to be a 2 wheel drift direction change).
This was a near Takumi like move. Well done
This has been a move in motor sports (more specifically Formula One) in general for years and years called the Fangio drift (all four wheels loosing traction at the same time) which Takumi used a lot in the show, but just so it’s out there Initial D didn’t create the four wheel drift, the great Argentinan driver Juan Manuel Fangio came up with this and was quite well known for it

When the grip line is not the fastest line. That was awesome as hell. Cup races are sick cause all the cars are the same so it's really up to the drivers and setup guys to make the cars fast. I always see SUPER tight racing in series like this.
Yeah, for sure! Basically the same specs across all racers brings out the talent of each driver the most i feel
The grip line was the fastest line though. That's why the guy who was way behind in 3rd position got to the bumper of the 1st position car after that drift. Both 1st and 2nd wasted time and their tyre traction. But was very cool to watch.
Racing line is all well and good when you can take it without other cars near you.
If you can't, real driver skill shows when the time comes to improvise.

There are still people who enjoy the sport here, but since it doesn't bring that sense of national pride anymore, it just doesn't have the same popularity it had back then.
