      Very over optimistic analysis.
      - Money made could be less as a lot of students don’t get an on campus job or internship. So the 24,000 could come down to 0 for a lot of students out there.
      - Money made during full time could be ideal there.
      - The main issue comes from tuition not being considered. When we consider that it would be -60,000
      - Another big problem here is with expenses. During school the exp could be 400-1000 depending on the area and post school it would be around 1000-2400 per month again depending on the place.
      What I know from my friends around who are working out there, is that they made an average totaling up to $25,000 per 5 years in us and start reconvening more there after.
      I would sincerely suggest to reconsider the assumptions you had while making the video and break it to extreme case like CA vs Oklahoma.
      This surely is a best case scenario and not a worse case scenario.

      @@prateeshreddy136 don’t count on it.
      It’s a very over optimistic analysis.
      I have been in US for quite sometime now and can assure you, you would not even make half of it.
      Assumptions like on campus job, getting full time job on time, and best of all tuition have not been considered through out this video.
      I would suggest talk to someone in US who recently graduated and learn from their story. This is not advisable at all.

    But a major expense is the tuition fee which is most of the time a loan with an interest of ( 10 % ) , which hasn't been considered .

    It’s too conservative just at 1000 dolar expense ~ 750(rent +utility) +350 food + 200dolr(phone+wifi+electricity+gas)+600dolars car emi+150dolar car insurance+100dolr gas~minimum 2150$ and if you go out or go to india for vacation ...something it will be more. Agree a 100%, I lived in the Midwest for a lot more than $1000/mo. This is so impractical. For $500 in rent you’d get a shack in most places, not a shared apartment. Forget getting a place for yourself to live peacefully, like a working adult.

    There are a few problems with your calculations:
    1. USD 500 and 1000 are too conservative values for living expenses. Actual costs are closer to double that amount (based on discussions with family and friends who have done their MS in the US).
    2. Most students would be paying off their student loans so will not have such a large sum saved up by the end.
    3. Getting a 7% rate of interest on short-term investments of less than 5 years is pretty much impossible. Index or Mutual Funds need 5+ years to start giving returns at 7%.
    In case I have left out any information which answers these concerns, kindly let me know.

    • @VG-ew4cn

      Very true man! He assumed a lot of things wrongly. I have lived in the US probably more than him. Rent in Cities like Denver, Chicago, NYC is so much. I know people paying $1800 in Colorado for one bedroom apartment. Stupid calculations and went too off! He’s in CA that’s why he would be making around $100k. No one will give him that much money in other parts of the US given that he’s into Project Management

    • @YudiJ
      @YudiJ  3 года назад +1

      @@VG-ew4cn I live in California and above is based on my city. You might have not watched most of my podcast, people have said they get 40$/hour for an internship so there's that.
      For fulltime they said its 120-140k Well I put down 80k :)
      Like I said I have assumed the lowest salary and lowest expenses.
      Talking about education fees Chico State per credit fees is 376 so multiply that by 36 = You get my point?
      Sure if you choose to go to college which has 60-80k fees, then deduct that from your savings. and sure if you don't make enough money and still have living expenses of 1200-2000 then yeah deduct accordingly.
      this is a blueprint of what I did and just update the cost and expenses according to your situation. It won't be the same for everyone for sure.

  • @magic2599
    @magic2599 3 года назад +5

    I really appreciate what you are doing, but I don't agree with some of the stuff you have mentioned. It could be misleading.
    First of all: You can't generalize monthly expenses to 500. It totally depends on the state and city you live in. I was in Greenville South Carolina, staying with 3 other people with minimal living, no car, no eating out, and no outdoor activity, and still end up spending almost 400 to 450 bucks.
    Second thing: Again generalizing expenses during OPT. Once you start OPT / Job you have more hidden expenses that you forget to mention. Rent increases as you start living alone or with a lesser number of people, you own a car so you pay car payments, car insurance payments, health insurance deductions from salary. Also, many students like me have an education loan from India. I had to spend all my OPT savings from the first year to pay off that loan as well.
    What about expenses when you apply for EAD? I guess 400 bucks.
    You did mention six years of saving, but you forgot to mention travel expenses to India. Are you expecting the student to not travel and visit family back in India in 6 years? At least 2 to 3 times students will travel to India. What about those expenses? Flight tickets are not cheap.
    Once you start earning, people tend to spend at least some money on local travel, clothes, appliances. YOu can't expect students to be in the US for 5 years and not spending a single penny on clothes, travel, appliances.
    You have calculated savings based on the average salary of 80K per annum. Again some part of the country students gets 60K, 65K, 70K as start salary for fresher.
    Again I don't mean to demean you. My opinion is that you can't just generalize stuff and say you can save 1 crore in 5 years (2 years college plus 3 years job). It is very misleading. Not all can save 1 crore in those 5 years. I know many people who haven't saved 1 crore. Looking at this video could influence many students to take decisions which they might not want to.

    Hi Yudi bhai,
    I think this is the right time to ask you this question, as I am applying for fall’21. If someone is coming to US for masters while keeping in mind that he/she is taking education loan. What range of tution fee university should we apply for? As we need to return this amount at some point of time. Sometimes I feel like applying in good university whose tution fee is bit high then I restrict myself to budget range university though I know I can get into those good university with my profile. I hope you’ll read this message, finger crossed 🥺

      @@YudiJ is that including the mortgage payments. Still you live with your wife. you are sharing expenses. sO you actually can't compare that to someone who just got a job. I would say 1500-1800 would be appropriate monthly so you can atleast enjoy after spending your college life frugally

    • @samuelsmarty
      @samuelsmarty 3 года назад

      @@piyushwani4504 that's the point. I shared an apartment during my college years. and the fact I got a job was to live a more comfortable life. Why would I go back to sharing an apartment. Why would I use a metro, instead of a car(unless i am in new york). A car gives me more accessibility and ease in life. I don't drink that much anyways. But I do travel sometimes. I feel you should do that too and have a realistic figure so you can balance between happiness and savings,

    • @piyushwani4504
      @piyushwani4504 3 года назад

I didn't buy a car because of wfh setup until mid 2021. Sharing my apartment with two other guys saves me 66% on the 3 bed apartment rent without any adjustments which is much better than 1 bed rent. Btw with all this I travel on weekends to near places with roomies so I am happy with my life.

    so can we manage to live a decent life(sharing basis) as a student under $500-650?????? Is that realistically possible?

Then would you have been better off investing it in India? Only if you're planning to stay back and create a life abroad would it make sense. Just my 2 cents.

    I live in California, $1700-$1800 is good range for total monthly expense if you have monthly car payments and living in shared apartment, but this video gives new perspective how saving can help you to build good capital and if you start investing early then how you can grow your money even better...

    A very happy bday Yudi Bhai. One thing I want to discuss that 1000$ as an expense is far less. In California, only expenses and living very high in suburbs or in cities and you made a video about San Fransisco( bay area ) where rent for 3bhk was 4200$ so even if we take 1 back it will be 1400$ as rent minimum and including everything ( car insurances, food) it results in 2000$ or 2200$. Since more jobs of 90k + salary or more is only in bay area etc Please explain.

    Yudi bhai i am enrolled in MSCS at Washington state university and just last week they announced that they will take spring 21 online and they said they don't want students coming this spring and stopped giving i20s. I am now in a very bad spot. I have paid 2000$ deposit. I don't know if I should ask for refund and change university or go online. What would you recommend. I am 2019 graduate and i took a gap year😓

    How did you account for $500 expense per month? And $1000 after graduating? These don’t seem realistic AT ALL? Rent in itself is 500 without including phone bill food expense and what not?

    Thanks for this financial videos series..much needed!
    1 doubt - the rent itself is around 500$ in NY area plus the other expenses like food n all should take another $500 right?
    Why did you say that it is a matter of concern if it comes to $1000?

      I've been living in LA, it's not possible if you care about personal space or cleanliness or if you believe in living life for an experience rather than competing for money. However, I've seen people shamelessly living with 6 roommates in a 1-bed apartment. You will want to throw up if you walk into one of those because of the smell and hygiene.

      When expense is high, salary will be high.
      So in NYC you will be making 120k instead of 80k so that compensate high expense

    Happy birthday Yudi. You gave clear explanation but this is best scenario when you have job since first semester.
    In covid time since last January campus job is not possible.
    Add calculation about if a student is paying half tutiion fee by themselves , in that case would they able to save and invest after expenses?
    Great video though ❤️
