For those curious, I did not include the Stanely Toolkit or Amazon Basics backpack because those are 'Everyday Items' that can be used for MTG, and this video is meant to look at actual products built for the game. If you'd like to see that review, it can be found here: ruclips.net/video/kSm49YvmBbg/видео.html
I was wondering about that. I got a variation on the Stanley tool box and it's so far been my favorite storage. Has been great for my kids collections too as they are rough on everything. Love your appearances on Game Knights!
Professor, please can you do a video explaining the changes in competitive play? What is a Mythic CHampionship!?! is it just the pro tour by another name? ty
FYI...the previous version of the Stanley Toolkit has gone out of production, though you might still be able to pick up one of the old stock in store. The new versions seems to have those odd triangular corners. and even if it didn't seems to be of iffy quality.
I actually for quite some time been using the deep compartment stanley toolbox from the video "products not designed for magic that are good for it" and let me tell you, while i have more than 12 commanders, being able to come to my lgs with this thing and have my friends keep lend different commanders of mine for each game is very fun. I have been officialy been annonced as the store's "commander dealer"

Dude, my family watches your channel. My dad got into MTG because he worked at a comic book store since he was adult (When MTG first became a game). Him and my uncle got obsessed with the game and even taught me and my cousins how to play. You're definitely a professor for sure.
I want to say how much I love and appreciate what you do prof. All your videos are amazing and you help me make the best out of money when buying product. Keep up the amazing work
I've been looking for a proper carrying case to fit a trade binder, playmat, and a couple of Commander decks but I had no idea the Piratelab case exsisted! Thank you so very much Prof!
Professor, thank goodness! I was starting to worry that you uploaded a card case video without throwing stuff around...I'm glad I waited before rushing to the comments. XD
Thanks Professor! All of your review videos are very helpful for making the best decisions on how to protect and display my Magic cards. Sincerely appreciated sir and have a Merry Christmas!
Another awesome video, Sir. Well done. I ended up getting the Stanley Deep Parts Bin because of one of these videos and it's been working wonderfully for my needs. Thank you for the great deck box alternatives and keep them coming.
I have owned the large Pirate Labs case for a little over a year now and its one of the best purchases I've made. its durable and while mine has seen some wear on the edges due to my carelessness, its still very strong and completely protects my travelling collection. my friends and I play a lot of Commander and as its stands my bag is carrying 6 commander decks, one Standard deck, a box of lands for when i'm doing drafts or limited, box of tokens, several dice containers, my playmat and my trade binder. its basically everything I need for a night of Magic no matter where I go, and I also would like to point out the color options. while they are varied, I particularly was please I was able to find regulation US military Coyote Brown color for mine as so I could bring it to military trips the Army sends me on and it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb amongst my other gear. 100% would buy again.
just recently got back into Pokemon TCG collecting after finally learning how to play the game, this is absolutely helpful, now i don't have to find a way to shove them into old tins & shoeboxes, i appreciate your videos !! :'-0
I'm likely never getting one of these cases since I have one commander deck and one modern deck but man I love the profs vids. His voice is like ASMR for me
The Pirate Lab carrying case is absolutely amazing! I don't regret buying it at all. Now I just wish they sold more of their accessories in Europe, because I want a few of those full-row foam inlays.
Thanks Prof, just ordered a couple of the KMC's - definitely time to upgrade storage for my overflowing Arkham Horror LCG , AEONS End and Legendary collections - it's not just my MTG collection that needs some box love 😋
For your Q & A I want to know what's your favorite format to play? And do you prefer prerelease or draft? Also, I love your videos. I got one of my friends watching your videos and he really appreciates your views.
Do you have a video debating when it's a good time to get a binder over a storage case? Or vice versa? My magic cards are in a big 4 inch binder, but idk if that's the best way to go :(
It seems funny to have to point this out, but it didn't occur to me immediately, so I thought I'd share. The removable compartments in the Dex Protection Supreme Game Chest can hold about 95 double-sleeved cards, but if you take them out, you can put around 125 double-sleeved cards in the spots where the compartments would have been. With the compartments removed, I'm able to hold a double-sleeved 1050 card cube in the chest.
Completely agree that the Ultimate Guard boxes are perfect for carrying around the your playable decks. I've got one for Modern, one for Standard, and one for the card kingdom Battle Decks.
I love the KMC. I have three. One holds my pauper cube, one holds my unstable set cube, and one holds my eight budget 'gauntlet' commander decks. I'm considering dropping the commander decks box to 6-7 so it can fit dice and tokens for all of them, which don't fit with 8 decks in dragon shields (but actually because I want to upgrade a couple of those budget decks).
After having used it for a couple of years, the REP MTG-1 has served me incredibly well, it carries 8 of my commander decks in Ultra Pro commander deck boxes, as well as my playmat and dice! It’s been dropped, sat on, and still looks immaculate. I got it during one of the mass drop sales at 60$. Id say it’s a pretty damn good choice! I just wish they offered a larger version.
The first time I encountered the Dex box, I was at Magicfest in Vegas and asked if I could open it and look inside. The guy at the booth said "of course" and I tried to open it and thought I was trying to open the incorrect side at first. The first time opening was difficult due to the strength. I bought the box. It houses the Unstable Cube because the red fits so well for that set.
KMC card barrier box is the perfect box for a cube. It fits a large double sleeved cube perfectly or in my case I have my double sleeved 540 card cube plus basic lands
These are all quite nice, but I'm still plenty content using my inexpensive cardboard card boxes for storage and transport. That they're inexpensive is important because I've got a ton of cards (and cubes) that need storage and sorting, but they're also easy to label, so I know what's in each box from just glancing at its side. And they don't open or spill easily. While durability is theoretically limited, I've never experienced one of these boxes getting damaged beyond use yet from regular transport, so I see little reason to pay more for a fancy box.
Man, wish I could have seen this sooner. I just moved from China to Japan. XD I didn't even think about checking your older videos for cases like this. Thankfully the boxes and such I had were protective enough! =D
I use the "Ultimate Guard Archive". Placing 4 Boulder in it to go to any tournaments. Way more efficient in terms of storage and space than single boxes in a backpack. Boulders are excellent too. I'm using only the 100+ ones, offering me enough space for a double sleeved legacy deck + a lot tokens. I use about 13 thick sleeved tokens from GnD and still have room.
I love my Dex case. I have the gray one. It gets nowhere near as many hand prints on the outside. That Velcro has not worn out. Soooooo good. The only thing I've noticed is that the inner corners of the suede are starting to wear out. Otherwise, best case out there!!!
Simply because of this channel (literally because of Tolarian Community College)I try to buy all my singles at my local game store which by the way the only way i can get there is by bike and it takes one hour both ways for a combined 2 hours. It hasn't had everything I've looked for so the singles it doesn't have i usually buy at tcgplayer.com. The singles it does have that i need i will get there.
The Dex protect box does allow for 60 card decks (single sleeved as I do) left in dragon shield boxes.. This is quite nice. Otherwise, using ribbon to separate decks works great to allow you to grab them out with ease. I have one and it is amazing.
I have two of those Card Barrier Box. Almost 4 years. So great! For some reason they heavy duty super glue for the label sticker. So had a pretty difficult time getting off. But other than that, excellent box. The problem I've always had with Ultimate Guard is their logo. It's ugly. I wanted to get their card box, but opted for a different brand with a nice dragon symbol logo.
Ultimate Guard's pure text logo is one of the only good looking logos among card product companies. It's only ugly when they put that over-arching bodybuilder on top of it.
I love the Ark Hive, but I use the Super Hive. Holds 5 or 6 Boulders (depending on 80+ or 100+) 2 playmats and a dice compartment. It has the same magnet closure.
I bought a KMC Card Barrier Box after I saw another review you made on it before. Mine cracked after a bit, but it is still very usable and that Crack is pretty superficial and doesn’t effect the protection.
The best MTG deck cases you can get at a thrift store.. go to your thrift store and buy a brief case metal or leather. Then cut out all the inserts in it and it will hold 30 decks. Also most brief cases comes with combination locks.

about 15 years ago i got this "Jammers Quality Cases Jumbo Card Case" and doing a quick online search i can't seem to find it being sold or reviewed anywhere. it looks a lot like the KMC Card Barrier Box except it has 6 compartments that are about the same size and instead of the cards being sideways they are upright. on the box it says it could hold 1000 jumbo card capacity or 2000 standard card capacity but from my experience i could probably hold 2,100 sleeveless yugioh cards in it or 350 cards per compartment. i don't have a lot of sleeved cards but if i guessed i'd say it would probably fit about 1,800 sleeved yugioh cards or 300 per compartment i dont know. the Jammers Quality Cases Jumbo Card Case can also fit sleeveless pokemon cards but i know it can't fit sleeved pokemon cards. the sleeve size is just too big to fit.
