    About 6-7 years ago I bought a very plain wardrobe from Ikea and put a bunch of slide out drawers inside it, building my own card catalogue unit. The entire thing cost me about 300bucks but it holds thousands of cards using cardboard boxes as dividers just like in the drawers in this video. Build it yoursef guys, its the only way.
    Thankfully BCW now have dedicated card catalogue drawers. I seen the 6 drawer one and it looks very nice.

    Back in the 90s I used a wooden audio cassette organizer for my collection. It had 16 or 20 drawers similar to a card catalog and held approximately 500 cards per drawer. Kicking mt butt now for ever getting rid of it.

      I know my sister had something like that and I had asked her about it almost 15 years ago. She had just gotten rid of it. All my stuff was for CDs so no options there. O well. Can't win them all I guess.

    Grateful you created this video to inform BCW and UltraPro to improve for feedback. I would love to change the industrial gray look into matted black or a bolder universal look (two-tone color, color gradient, or my suggestion - Wood-like service and hardness not unlike luxury vinyl flooring)

    • @beyondthedeckbox

      I hope they start trying new things in terms of colors. I think that is why Ultimate Guard and Gamegenic are doing so well because they are giving us good products that actually look nice. If we could get the durability of a BCW product mixed with the looks of a Gamegenic or Ultimate Guard product it would be a bestseller!

  • @DnDJordanL

    I agree! I think the concepts are great! And we as a community could build on them! I love the lid on the 1st one and I think there could be a lock or lever in front of where the drawers could go and that could allow it to be portable, removable, sturdy, etc. My main concern though is whether they could be designed with waterproof protection in mind in case someone’s apartment above them leaks for example

    • @beyondthedeckbox
      @beyondthedeckbox  10 месяцев назад +1

      I love this idea! And I agree, I hope waterproof protection is a feature on things like these soon. I know the cardboard boxes aren’t waterproof, but they actually do a good job of delaying potential damage in a leak situation. I had a box get left on a porch over night and it rained. Thankfully the cardboard box soaked up the water and the inside was still dry when I got to it. (If it had been there an hour longer my collection would have been RIP though…)

    • @DnDJordanL
      @DnDJordanL 10 месяцев назад

      @@beyondthedeckbox I’m guessing a box got shipped your way? That’s surprising, I never would’ve guessed that they have a level of protection in themselves…I’ve just been debating long term storage! But yeah honestly I think if these two companies collaborated that would be awesome! Lid for accessibility; drawers for convenience.
      What’s your opinion on storing a foil set of Lorcana in DEX Binders (for presentability)? Would top loaders be the safest longterm?

  • @DnDJordanL
    @DnDJordanL 2 месяца назад +1

    Sooo I went ahead and bought the smaller guy with the handle…and I’m really enjoying the fact that it holds smaller deck boxes, toploaders, etc. Considering buying another 🤗
    I still have a minor concern with watertight integrity 🤔 but noticed that the middle section with the locks are separate from the compartment and seem to fall through the container which is interesting 🤔

    • @beyondthedeckbox
      @beyondthedeckbox  2 месяца назад +1

      I'm so glad you like it! It probably would be okay to run across a parking lot in a light rain, but anything more than that I would probably put it in a bag to help keep it dry. Thank you so much for watching!

    What I really hate about most boxes for collections, or even decks, is that someone of the design team always seems to think that making the walls as high as the cards would make for a pleasant experience getting them out.
    I modified plastic drawer boxes (for documents in DIN A4 format) for my collection. Kind of like the UP thing here, but with one big, removable drawer. I have put a thin layer of sponge rubber on the bottom, so that the cards don't slip easily and divided the whole drawer into 3 rows. The row dividers/walls are cut from PVC foam sheets and like half an MTG cards hight, which makes it very easy to take out a bunch of cards at once. They are just hold in place by duct tape, for now, just out of lazyness and wanting to get it done quickly. A more permament fixture is planned tho.
    One drawer box can hold around 3000 cards, maybe even more, and is also pretty good transportable via car, or even on foot, if you just take a little care in how you put it in a bag/backpack and don't shake too wildly 😉
    If there is an interest in it, I can provide some more details/pics of the whole thing.

    The BCW is tempting but those cardboard boxes are super cheap in bulk and ive built up a stockpile of them.

Why are the boxes that HIGH? i really like the Cardboard boxes because i can sort through it easy but on the Boxes From BCW and Ultrapro it looks like they had more in mind that you can put you Deckboxes into these Boxes what i personal find a little stupid but hey its just not for me.

    • @beyondthedeckbox
      @beyondthedeckbox  11 месяцев назад

      I absolutely agree. Especially the BCW. After having used it for a bit, I have a hard time sorting through my cards in it because the walls are so high. I have to move the dividers far enough apart so the cards can lean far enough so I can thumb through them, or even get them out of the box. I hope they adjust in newer versions.

    I am a carpenter and was planning to build a personal card filing cabinet. I found a library card catalog cabinet in an antique store. With little to some renovations, I was able to fit 40K cards. Ultra Pro has a good concept. The bins are too wide. But why end in 4, why not 5 drawers. I still have two 8-cube storage organizers full of bundle boxes of cards. How high can it go if you stock the BCW and Ultra-Pro boxes before it leans over and falls? We don't know and I won't take the reisk.

      I know what you mean! I actually started to get into woodworking to build a set of drawers for my collection. I haven't gotten that far yet, but I did build a shelf/desk for my binders and sorting. It's a "bit" out of square but I learned a lot while building it. Since then I've built two bookshelves for my wife (that ARE square) and I'm looking forward to doing more. It's just finding the time...and the wood.
