Imo L absolutely stomps if the roles were reversed, L's absence of information on how the death note works was the only reason Light wasn't caught by the 8th episode. To be fair. Although I think L is better for either role. It’s important to say Litterly anyone can beat both light and L if they didnt expose themselves with the notebook. For example. Consider the following strategy: get a list of the worlds criminals, kill 100 of them randomly every week, repeat. As long as your criminals are spaced out around the world and at different times. It’s almost impossible to catch. You can even arrange their deaths in advance. The death note is a huge advantage. Light allowed L to get close, otherwise he wouldn’t have a chance. What would be a more fair comparison is if there was a kira no one knew about, and both l and light were working independently to catch him. Who would do so first? Even with Ryuk's help in finding where the cameras were placed, L's suspicion of Light persisted due to Light's seemingly perfect behavior, which seemed too good to be true. Since L was extremely intelligent and observant, he would analyze patterns in the deaths caused by Kira. It would be too limiting for Light to act and erase suspicions if he only stayed in his room. Such a dumb take, that’s the whole point of this whole battle between them. That’s like saying if L made his name public this wouldn’t even be a fucking battle. L initially suspected Light and placed surveillance cameras in his house. Even with Ryuk's help in finding where the cameras were placed, L's suspicion of Light persisted due to Light's seemingly perfect behavior, which seemed too good to be true.
Since L was extremely intelligent and observant, he would analyze patterns in the deaths caused by Kira. If the killings continued with a specific pattern that suggested a single person, L might still narrow down his suspects in the long run, even if the suspect was staying home.
It would be too limiting for Light to act and erase suspicions if he only stayed in his room. Due to that, L’s exceptional analytical skills and determination might still have led him to Light eventually.

There are still possibilities. L might have conducted broad surveillance, focusing particularly on students in the Kanto region who could potentially fit the profile of Kira based on the evidence and patterns observed. Like I said, Light would be limited in finding criminals in the long run if he only writes in his room, as his targets would be limited to those from the news or if by luck he encountered criminals. For a great detective, sooner or later, the patterns might narrow down again to his school. There are so many things he could have done.
We both know the extent to which they would go to find what they want. Losing is not in their nature. He would continue analyzing patterns and anomalies in the deaths caused by Kira, looking for any consistent behavioral or circumstantial clues
Also, it is noteworthy that we are far behind L’s IQ, and the fact that he solved cases when he was 8 yrs old. We don’t know what he could have done. They are both geniuses. I'm basing my answer on possibilities: even if they switched places, Light would face the same difficulties finding L if he had the notebook. But I believe they could still solve these types of cases which we think are impossible.
The reason L would win if the roles were reversed is not necessarily about IQ, its about personality. L would be extremely careful and make little to no mistakes while Light made multiple mistakes as Kira because off his massive ego and narcissistic personality
