Frankly, I don't think Light is just built like that. Light is definitely smart but he's no detective. All he's ever done is devise a plan with all the available knowledge he has, that would help him prevent L from proving he's Kira and by extension, help him figure out what L's true name is, which he never did know prior to L's death. I think the author literally made it obvious that Light, with no help from the shinigami at all, would instantly lose. I mean, deathnote being op aside, the shinigami themselves were a huge factor to Light's short victory. Ryuk literally told Light about someone following/investigating him, mind you this wasn't even Light smartly manipulating Ryuk into telling him these details, Ryuk just decided he had to inform Light about it. Then there's also Ryuk telling Light the exact locations of the cctv cameras. Again, the reason Ryuk does it is pretty much stupid, apple in earth apparently tastes better than the one from underworld. Idk if there's anything else but let's move on to Rem. Here you can probably give some points to Light since he actually did something to trigger that event of Rem intervening, but Rem being there to intervene in the first place wasn't in his "plan". Light had accidentally killed Misa's killer so Misa made it her mission to repay Kira for that. You could argue that Misa almost fk him over but then again Light would never have won without Misa being around and being his ally in the first place. He had never planned for her to aid him by killing Misa's family's killer, it was purely by coincidence, and even if we dismis that, Light didn't even instantly see her value as a pawn after knowing about her. He was literally forced to put up with her and just kind of realized he can use her later on, which just shows how slow he is. Conclusion: Light's feats simply doesn't mean much nor does it translate to him being a good detective. The difference of him solving a case here vs him in his battle against L is that Light already had all the pieces needed to win it. All available for him by luck or some kind of coincidence. Everything pretty much aligned for him. He was literally being handed the needed pieces to use against L.
Please do more BB or Lelouch videos I love them, they are so good some idea I had were these - could others catch BB (Lelouch, Ayankoji, etc) - Could BB catch Light if he replaced (L or Near) - and just who is smarter videos comparing BB with people you’ve done before
If i was given the option to guarantee a non-anime content for a series to be animated, out of all the anime i would pick tLABBMC ngl. I like this story even more so than the original story, and BB is my favorite Death Note character; and i wish more people knew of those. Especially because it goes deeper into L's character, and would show that L is not that all good for justice detective he may appear to be in the og DN.

Although this is cool, this wouldn't happen. Mainly due to Beyond Birthday dying of a heart attack one year after the BB Murder Cases ended. Plus he died around the same time Light getting the Death Note.
I consider Beyond Birthday to be more capable and competent than Light as an murder. Light used and abused supernatural powers that did all the dirty work for him and didn't make him think much about the details, so much so that he had to call the greatest detective in the world to the case since no one knew how to explain the deaths. BB used common methods for his crimes and still managed to erase any evidence that linked him to the murders, leaving only purposeful evidence for him and Naomi to solve together and get to L. B lost just by a mere oversight as he underestimated Misora and He concentrated all his strength on L and even though he almost beat him, if BB wanted to, he would never be caught.
a good girls guide to murder, the mc is basically ''good'' light Yagami in the sense that she is very emotionally fragile and impulsive. Except not as smart since its a young adult murder mystery and not an anime. She is extremely intelligent but imo not quite on the same level as L or light.
Mello and Near are canonically beneath L's ability by a lot, they acknowledge that and so does Light. So surpassing them wouldn't mean Light surpassed L.
