Disboard used to be a decent site. Used to. But then the owner of the site then axed his entire staff team because said team wanted to make improvements on the platform... Which happened last year. This leaves no one but the owner to remove botted or scammer servers, get new servers past review, among many other moderation tasks. Disboard DOESN'T have a functional staff team anymore. The owner's doing a lot of shit solo. PLEASE abandon the site and spread the word about better alternatives. If ANYONE wants a better alternative, the former staff went on and made a site called UnFocused.

This isn’t fully accurate. They were playing favorites with the approval system and using it to get clout. They’d let servers they were cool with slide while punishing others. He had a reason to remove them.

The servers have people 12 and under, people (most of them minors) posting selfies, "dating" (grooming) servers with 1000+ members, and ontop of all that theres large abouts of racism, queerphobia, misogyny, abelism, any discrimination you could think of. Some of the suff kids said there breaks my heart "please be nice to me" "i want someone who acts like a parent" "please dont send nudes" "i just want to play minecraft" "i want friends". I despise child predators. How could you look at a child and think its okay to "date" them? To hurt them? Please seek therapy if you think acting on your attraction is remotely okay. Its not. Children are the most innocent of our species, snd to corrupt that is the greatest perversion.
Child predators typically do not possess an attraction to children. What they want is power. Just wanted to say that, because it's really important to know the motives of those people in order to counteract them.
That's actually horrible, minor myself and I used to try and get myself purposefully groomed on those servers for any form of approval. I wanted to feed this sick desire I had after I finally broke up with my ex who groomed me. That was a about 2 months ago and I still feel sick thinking about it all, wishing all the other victims a great recovery.

It's so shocking how many of those servers may be legit created by minors. Many of them could be adults seeking children for malicious purposes, just pretending to be a child, but I've seen over the past few years that some have been pushing for children to actively seek out adults for the same purposes. It's completely insane. Edit: I also have to say it ENRAGES me how so many social media websites now force you to go into the page/channel/server that you are trying to report for illegal and/or traumatizing content. So to tell you how bad it is, I have to go in there myself and expose myself to the content? Really!? I mean, for the love of God, look at the tags! Isn't that enough proof for you to go in and do something?!

I remember using disboard a few years ago to promote a sfw roleplaying server that was a fantasy world. They used to be SO strict back then! And the actual discord for disboard, they’d deal with bans so quickly and get rid of bad / reported servers like nobody’s business. Now they really don’t care and don’t really check server ads anymore 😬 I avoid that place like fire now.
The staff who would do those bans all got fired by the owner. The owner (taki) refused to get rid of those bad tags. He even forced one of the staff members to unban a specific server that centered around leaking things. All because “it looked good” on the website. The owner is just going nuts lol
I wonder how many of those are just honeypots. It's worrying that statistically, some of those are real, but only somebody with zero sense would go looking for minors to sext on a fully tracked messaging platform like discord, it's like doing that in the playground in front of the local police station. I wonder if this all continues to be allowed to exist because it's such an absurdly easy way to "catch" people, who would otherwise go out of their way and find a more untraceable method to do such things.
I sure hope that's the case. That most of these are honeypots and scams praying on smooth brained creeps. At least that's what I would set up if I worked for a 3-letter agency, because that looks like some very low hanging fruit. Though I've hardly ever used discord, so I don't know how easy it is to remain truly anonymous there.
yeah i can tell you from personal experience that 90% of them are real, also discord is like sms messaging, there not ever gunna look at or do anything about the messages you send unless prompted to, so people can say anything in servers or dm's

At least that one is up front about being a privacy centered chat client, Discord has a reporting feature and still does absolutely nothing. Their CP is posted extremely publicly. At least to find the real nasty Telegram chatrooms, you need to look for it and they're the kinds of places law enforcement lurks. Discord is just openly the CP platform that everyone can go find their illicit material on, and it's perfectly welcoming to kids willing to sell pictures of their undeveloped bodies, won't even ban them.
Some weird shit happened with sailor moon servers on disboard. There was one that claimed it was better than all the rest, and would actively flood other sailor moon servers listed on this site with messed up trolling(gore, racism, the works) to try to get the servers banned. Full blown hate campaigns and raids with alt accounts because they wanted to be the only sailor moon server listed. It was called the dank kingdom at the time, and the server owner named themselves jadeite. This user was unhinged and claimed to have enough computer power to take down all of discord at a whim, along with government infrastructures because that is a sane and normal thing to say. It was surreal, and nearly every sailor moon server had to deal with the discord staff at some point. Naturally, the discord admin never took these harassment campaigns seriously and last I checked, the raiding on other sailor moon themed servers was still happening as far as 2022. With disboard being worse now, I can’t image how much worse the situation got.

As someone who was groomed by zoos at 13, I can say they are JUST as bad as pedos (for multiple reasons but that’s not the point) but I find the funniest is that only like 30-40 % of zoos were actually furrys (which isn’t great but people make it seem like it’s 90 percent) most were just old men/women in their 50s who were gooners, but dear god it was too easy for children to get manipulated into that community, honestly the furry community has been the best with helping with my therapy and healing away from that community.

From what I understand Disboard being unable to take reports on content inside servers is due to the fact that the *actual* Discord trust and safety team doesn’t want a third party snooping around and trying to be the server checking people, this is just what I’ve heard from other people, they’d be walking on Discord’s territory and they wouldn’t like that, regardless of what you think about how good Discord is at that job….that’s the reason.
I think it also has to do with validating the report. You can join the server on your account, validate the bad messages, but at the same time put your account at risk for being banned. If you rely on screenshots, people can fake those. I can see a reality where they use userapp commands in the Disboard bot to report messages to Disboard. But it's better to just focus on making the website clean first.
@@NoTextToSpeech The Disboard bot could easily use a system to detect and remove listings. Simply checking if there is a nsfw channel in a server listed anywhere with the word "teen" is a red flag that should immediately put the server up to review, reports require people who arent there for the content advertised to join and risk their accounts when the bot could leverage its access to make the reports automatically. I find it weird that none of that access is being used. I will also say that it would be interesting if Disboard were to stop removing servers that advertise illegal content, instead blacklisting them from being viewed by anyone but the server owner, a way to mitigate the chances of the owner just creating a new listing by making it look like they were never moderated in the first place. Obviously if there is illegal content in the listing itself such as an image, there would be a ban required but it would certainly slow down the return of the servers following a "ban."
They didn't even do the BARE MINIMUM of banning tags. AAP is an easy ban, what else does that stand for that would be for a Discord server. MAP would be a little harder, just manually look through those and then ban the tag. They were going to review EVERY server, just do it for the MAP tag.
Instead of banning tags how about they fix the root issue. Run the server postings through AI (a commenter said chatgpt accurately identified inappropriate/illegal listings accurately). First these suspicious tags, and then the rest of the postings. Or just start from a clean slate with proper measures
@@-qi8dt AI can't filter inappropriate content accurately, it's a hit or miss, much of it depends on the angle of photos taken or the people itself. It can however make an educated guess based on server users and ban frequency/reason to guess if a server is bad or not, but it's not infallible.

I’ve avoided using Discord and Disboard for a long time, and it really baffles me how there’s no auto-detect system for obvious CP listings? If a server has the words “nudes” and “not 18” in its listing it should be taken down then and there…
Disboard, it was actually very useful for someone like me back in the day since i could find decent communities about video games. Now whenever i look through it its like trying to find a diamond in a haystack, its there, just going to be searching for hours on end only for like a couple months to maybe 2 years of enjoyment before it gets shut down for personal life reasons
Yeah I mentioned finding a conspiracy theory server full of weird but totally interesting freaks on it to some normies the other day and they were like "disboard?" I was like huh? Then I found this video. So weird.
They seem to have blocked most of the tags the CP sellers were using, except for "selling". If you search that they are still abundant. There's also some servers selling probably stolen Roblox accounts using that tag.
i ran a test with chatgpt where i sent it a photo of the description and tags of the server and asked it to explain why it is inappropriate. It explained it in full detail. I dont know what the disboard admins are smoking but it must be fent because their lack of braincells is crazy. AI can EASILY identify the problem in the underage dating servers which could be paired with a warning/ban system.
What is happening? The owner is Ok with putting children at risk. A simple program could ban certain words and at least it keeps its being as easily accessible. But when you fire your whole staff, it’s obvious what the site owner wants
genuinely thank you for bringing light to this. i noticed this shit around a week or two ago and was so fucking shocked at the sheer amount of disgusting servers being advertised. i spent a whole hour reporting every one of these servers i found but there was so so much servers it seemed never ending. i found so many cool servers on disboard and met some awesome friends through it so it's disheartening to see this vile shit on it, it should not be like this. i still don't get why certain tags can't be autobanned ? but i do realize that even if gross tags got banned freaks will just make up new terms to bypass it... horrible situation all around.
Fair.. I agree with you there. Unfortunately, Disboard AND discord do allow 18+ servers, so I can see how it can be unfair if all all listings were removed for it, however, they need to have a separate site or have it ID gated to even view/post the listings. That way, if anyone does post illegal shit - they can get themselves in legal trouble, and no one innocent would have to view those things. (Bless my poor eyes )
Okay, so, one tiny note about the "17+" bit - I know it's still 1,000,000% against discord TOS; but it might not be illegal where the sever owners are from. Age of consent *does* vary depending on locality. It's just 16 in Japan. So, while definitely illegal here in the US and Canada, I can at least see a world in which a sever admin from another country doesn't check the discord TOS, and just gates by what *they* in *their* country consider adult or minor.
i'm pretty sure age of consent laws don't affect production of p*rnography involving minors though. i could be wrong, but that's the rule generally i think. i'm from the UK where the age of consent is 16, however even if you're 16, producing nudes counts as CP. just using some basic reasoning, i'm guessing it's because digital content is usually distributed to the wider web, where the age of consent may be higher and make it illegal in said country, so it gets a lot harder legality wise. could be wrong though ^^

The worst part of "MAP"is that it also could mean "Multi animation project" (you draw animation for the one part of the song. Simple as that), something that children really enjoys. I know I did when I was younger. Better way to moderate disboard: A "state" feature with five states: - Safe ( If a server gets manually checked and is not NSFW ) - Safe/NSFW ( if a server gets manually checked and has NSFW it must prevent access of NSFW material to non-minors or somewhat check who got access, hidden by default) - Unchecked ( server added, not using any "strange" hashtags and description fine hidden by default, but "show unchecked" should be easy to access on the UI ) - Unchecked/NSFW ( server added, using NSFW hashtags, hidden by default ) - In Review (server hidden by default, any server that was reported is in this category. One report should be enough for an Unchecked server to be here ) This will reduce the amount of server to check, provide a way to hide certain servers (e.g., show only server they reviewed) and reduce the availability of certain servers.
hiding a server from a single report would be really broken. Your competitors can just send a report once in a while to effectively hide your legitimate server from the website. And if a server is only hidden once, the feature becomes entirely useless because the pedophiles can create an innocent discord server, intentionally report it, wait until it passes review and only then add the bad stuff

im a minor myself, i used to be really curious about these and i was active in these kind of communities in twt and discord- these communities. i genuinely just wanted a father figure and i wasn't looking for nsfw stuff, but i was horrified to see that although i explicitly stated that i didn't want anything nsfw happening, these creeps were so pushy and were obsessed with the "idea" of teaching me. so many people offered to pay me to be their "escort" too, and it's incredibly disgusting. i was tempted to say yes because my family was poor and i could not ask my parents to buy me things. i made so many "fellow aams" too, w/ some of them selling or actually posting nūdes of themself **publicly**. now im just wishing i could do something to help them :((

Discord banhammered an entire server of 400 people that I was in 3 hours after 20 people (not including me) raided another server. They’re more concerned with 20 people spamming in a random discord server than literal cp.
This thing makes me really want to bait the teens on one of those servers, where they actually gonna end up reading a presentation on how such type of addiction can change your brain...
I have a coworker (19) that mentioned that she gets extra money using these discords to pretending to be a minor and scam dirty men with pictures of herself since she can still pass for being young. Apparently they pay crazy money for the pictures, and it's not like they can go to the cops about her scamming them. I ompy hope most people on here are doing the same thing
Nowadays with AI, they could easily feed the server description to an LLM, have it guess whether this insinuates that the poster is underage or not, and if yes, hold the post until manual verification. Could get pretty expensive though.
The review is it already going through an AI. However it doesn't really care about what's posted, as seen by what it allows. (Aka it just holds up the line)

It's a double edge sword since it promotes these servers to possible offenders but it also spreads the awareness for the problem so discord (and disboard) can hopefully do something about it

I've had a Discord account since 2016. Disboard has ALWAYS been like this. It didn't suddenly become this way, it's just a lot more brazen ever since Discord added their Discovery tab. I'm glad folks are calling it out & bringing attention to it now, but I just wanted to point that out, as it does kinda make things worse. The fact Disboard has done nothing for YEARS as this issue has only festered & gathered more eyes on it is just disappointing to say the least.

idk how much groomers i met on disboard servers back when i was too young to even consider that a possibility. i hope no one that's got some sanity left in their head uses disboard because it singlehandedly ruined my early teens experience by about 20-30% which is significant damage by just 2-3 people
I don't see why they don't curate a list of banned tags, then retroactively go through every existing server (as well as any servers being created), and remove those tags from their posts. Effectively banishing them to the shadow realm. In addition to that, they could also just make it so you can only search by tag, and not server name.
Its clear some Disboard admins are in on it why else are these tags available and they can manually take servers down with these tags which they don't there isn't 1.3mil servers with these tags

Only good thing I got from disboard is a server filled with hundreds of people in my state who all study and work together for our exams and subjects in the 2nd and last year of high school. So we go over questions, topics and how to prepare for exams.
I would say I am shocked at how poorly both discord and Disboard are handling this. But to be honest I really am not. They both need to step up and do their jobs to remove the servers together.

I remember using disboard a few years ago to promote a sfw roleplaying server that was a fantasy world. They used to be SO strict back then! And the actual discord for disboard, they’d deal with bans so quickly and get rid of bad / reported servers like nobody’s business. Now they really don’t care and don’t really check server ads anymore 😬 I avoid that place like fire now.
The staff who would do those bans all got fired by the owner. The owner (taki) refused to get rid of those bad tags. He even forced one of the staff members to unban a specific server that centered around leaking things. All because “it looked good” on the website. The owner is just going nuts lol

I wonder how many of those are just honeypots. It's worrying that statistically, some of those are real, but only somebody with zero sense would go looking for minors to sext on a fully tracked messaging platform like discord, it's like doing that in the playground in front of the local police station. Some weird shit happened with sailor moon servers on disboard. There was one that claimed it was better than all the rest, and would actively flood other sailor moon servers listed on this site with messed up trolling(gore, racism, the works) to try to get the servers banned.
Full blown hate campaigns and raids with alt accounts because they wanted to be the only sailor moon server listed. It was called the dank kingdom at the time, and the server owner named themselves jadeite. This user was unhinged and claimed to have enough computer power to take down all of discord at a whim, along with government infrastructures because that is a sane and normal thing to say.
It was surreal, and nearly every sailor moon server had to deal with the discord staff at some point. Naturally, the discord admin never took these harassment campaigns seriously and last I checked, the raiding on other sailor moon themed servers was still happening as far as 2022. With disboard being worse now, I can’t image how much worse the situation got.

From what I understand Disboard being unable to take reports on content inside servers is due to the fact that the *actual* Discord trust and safety team doesn’t want a third party snooping around and trying to be the server checking people, this is just what I’ve heard from other people, they’d be walking on Discord’s territory and they wouldn’t like that, regardless of what you think about how good Discord is at that job….that’s the reason.

You can join the server on your account, validate the bad messages, but at the same time put your account at risk for being banned.
If you rely on screenshots, people can fake those.
I can see a reality where they use userapp commands in the Disboard bot to report messages to Disboard. But it's better to just focus on making the website clean first.

Simply checking if there is a nsfw channel in a server listed anywhere with the word "teen" is a red flag that should immediately put the server up to review, reports require people who arent there for the content advertised to join and risk their accounts when the bot could leverage its access to make the reports automatically.
I find it weird that none of that access is being used.
I will also say that it would be interesting if Disboard were to stop removing servers that advertise illegal content, instead blacklisting them from being viewed by anyone but the server owner, a way to mitigate the chances of the owner just creating a new listing by making it look like they were never moderated in the first place. Obviously if there is illegal content in the listing itself such as an image, there would be a ban required but it would certainly slow down the return of the servers following a "ban."

He got rid of his entire staff last year.
They didn't even do the BARE MINIMUM of banning tags. AAP is an easy ban, what else does that stand for that would be for a Discord server. MAP would be a little harder, just manually look through those and then ban the tag. They were going to review EVERY server, just do it for the MAP tag.
Instead of banning tags how about they fix the root issue. Run the server postings through AI (a commenter said chatgpt accurately identified inappropriate/illegal listings accurately). First these suspicious tags, and then the rest of the postings.
Or just start from a clean slate with proper measures
@@-qi8dt AI can't filter inappropriate content accurately, it's a hit or miss, much of it depends on the angle of photos taken or the people itself. It can however make an educated guess based on server users and ban frequency/reason to guess if a server is bad or not, but it's not infallible.

I dont know what the disboard admins are smoking but it must be fent because their lack of braincells is crazy. AI can EASILY identify the problem in the underage dating servers which could be paired with a warning/ban system.

genuinely thank you for bringing light to this. i noticed this shit around a week or two ago and was so fucking shocked at the sheer amount of disgusting servers being advertised. i spent a whole hour reporting every one of these servers i found but there was so so much servers it seemed never ending.
i found so many cool servers on disboard and met some awesome friends through it so it's disheartening to see this vile shit on it, it should not be like this. i still don't get why certain tags can't be autobanned ? but i do realize that even if gross tags got banned freaks will just make up new terms to bypass it... horrible situation all around.

Unfortunately, Disboard AND discord do allow 18+ servers, so I can see how it can be unfair if all all listings were removed for it, however, they need to have a separate site or have it ID gated to even view/post the listings. That way, if anyone does post illegal shit - they can get themselves in legal trouble, and no one innocent would have to view those things. (Bless my poor eyes )
Okay, so, one tiny note about the "17+" bit - I know it's still 1,000,000% against discord TOS; but it might not be illegal where the sever owners are from. Age of consent *does* vary depending on locality. It's just 16 in Japan. So, while definitely illegal here in the US and Canada, I can at least see a world in which a sever admin from another country doesn't check the discord TOS, and just gates by what *they* in *their* country consider adult or minor.
i'm pretty sure age of consent laws don't affect production of p*rnography involving minors though. i could be wrong, but that's the rule generally i think. i'm from the UK where the age of consent is 16, however even if you're 16, producing nudes counts as CP. just using some basic reasoning, i'm guessing it's because digital content is usually distributed to the wider web, where the age of consent may be higher and make it illegal in said country, so it gets a lot harder legality wise. could be wrong though ^^

Better way to moderate disboard:
A "state" feature with five states:
- Safe ( If a server gets manually checked and is not NSFW )
- Safe/NSFW ( if a server gets manually checked and has NSFW it must prevent access of NSFW material to non-minors or somewhat check who got access, hidden by default)
- Unchecked ( server added, not using any "strange" hashtags and description fine hidden by default, but "show unchecked" should be easy to access on the UI )
- Unchecked/NSFW ( server added, using NSFW hashtags, hidden by default )
- In Review (server hidden by default, any server that was reported is in this category. One report should be enough for an Unchecked server to be here )
This will reduce the amount of server to check, provide a way to hide certain servers (e.g., show only server they reviewed) and reduce the availability of certain servers.
hiding a server from a single report would be really broken. Your competitors can just send a report once in a while to effectively hide your legitimate server from the website. And if a server is only hidden once, the feature becomes entirely useless because the pedophiles can create an innocent discord server, intentionally report it, wait until it passes review and only then add the bad stuff

I've had a Discord account since 2016. Disboard has ALWAYS been like this. It didn't suddenly become this way, it's just a lot more brazen ever since Discord added their Discovery tab. I'm glad folks are calling it out & bringing attention to it now, but I just wanted to point that out, as it does kinda make things worse. The fact Disboard has done nothing for YEARS as this issue has only festered & gathered more eyes on it is just disappointing to say the least.

I found settings to turn activity off in 2000+ servers/as a whole but not a settings to just remove the historic
idk how much groomers i met on disboard servers back when i was too young to even consider that a possibility. i hope no one that's got some sanity left in their head uses disboard because it singlehandedly ruined my early teens experience by about 20-30% which is significant damage by just 2-3 people
I don't see why they don't curate a list of banned tags, then retroactively go through every existing server (as well as any servers being created), and remove those tags from their posts. Effectively banishing them to the shadow realm. In addition to that, they could also just make it so you can only search by tag, and not server name.
Its clear some Disboard admins are in on it why else are these tags available and they can manually take servers down with these tags which they don't there isn't 1.3mil servers with these tags
that what said on currently locked official english server, removing tag would make bad server owners find alternative tags (for the same thing) and require more effort to moderate.
Disboard doesn't have any admins. The Owner axed his entire staff team last year.. Around the time these issues started happening.
It's one guy trying to do everything himself. He's actually legitimately delusional.
Only good thing I got from disboard is a server filled with hundreds of people in my state who all study and work together for our exams and subjects in the 2nd and last year of high school. So we go over questions, topics and how to prepare for exams.
I would say I am shocked at how poorly both discord and Disboard are handling this. But to be honest I really am not. They both need to step up and do their jobs to remove the servers together.
