- The fall of the Narn Heavy base at Quadrant 37.
Shadows on the move and Londo is getting more and more stuck in the web of the ancient shadows.
Have Fun!
S1.22
I loved that G'Kar immediately understands that NONE of the known races were behind what happened.
Yep and as of season 2 he goes on a quest to find out. Great writing. There are more then 1 hero quests in Babylon 5 which makes it rewatchable.
The Mimbari and especially the Vorlons could have done it as well and for what he knows of them it's not exactly right to immediately exonerate them. It's highly unlikely they're responsible but who knows? He gets to that conclussion immediately because of script.
@@Bayard1503 The Minbari are not interested, and the Vorlons don't care. It's a process of elimination. It's staring you in the face.
@@thatsjustprime8096 Yes, particularly with G'Kar's experience with the other races.
@@Bayard1503 No its not the Membari the Narn had the updated targeting systems they could hit their ships its the humans that had old tech that couldnt hit those moving stealth targets.
It says something about Londo that his immediate reaction to 10,000 dead Narn is absolute horror. He wants his people to reclaim greatness, and he wants revenge for the wrongs done to his people, but even he has his limits...
associates of Mr. Morden ... dark occult power at work ... you don't want to play with them.
It was the difference between Londo and Refa, I think. Londo still clung to his honor and was still accessible to friendship, even compassion. Garibaldi described his decline very well later, that Londo could see the dark path he was one, but was too afraid of the consequences should he try to change it.
When Morden asks G'kar what he wants he flat out says he wants to exterminate the Centauri and turn their homeworld to ash. Beyond that he just wants his people safe. Londo, on the other hand, wants a return to glory. He dreams of the Republic the way it used to be and 'wants it all back.' I don't believe he ever REALLY thought about what the cost would be. He focused on the end result, not on the means of achieving it. He NEVER wants to exterminate the Narn or even reconquer their world, he just wants them out of the way.
@@nelsonchereta816 Centauri are the archetype of materialistic civilization, yet when demonic forces arose, some Centauri awoken.
No wrongs were done to them in the scale of ship attacks by the other races
I love how G'kar, the seemingly designated villain of first season, looks disturbed by Sinclair's words. Angry as he was back then, he still had wisdom.
Agree - it was a good hint that he really did care about his people, it wasn't just anger and posturing.
G'kar and Londo both had the best character arcs
Mr Morden taught me that bad guys should always sport magnificent hair to impress their enemies.
"It wasn't the humans. The Centauri don't have the will. The Vorlons don't care. The Minbari wouldn't do it. The other worlds aren't powerful enough for a strike like this. There's someone else out there..."
Creepy. There is a mighty enemy and we do not know it's powers or capabilities..😬
This video was the most fun to make and the best of season 1 in my opinion.
What do you think?
The Shadows lived hit and fade warfare.
@01:22 "I thought I had entered an alternate universe or something." Hmmm, you don't say?
Pro-tip: Names matter. I was once offered a lease to own deal on a car from a man named Franklin Cash. Yes, his last name was Cash. It was a pseudonym, and I doubt it referred to me increasing in cash. Likewise I'd avoid any military deal with a shadowy guy named "Morden".
Just like David D'Angelo his name was a pseudonym for his dating products called Double your dating. Cool guy actually.
Such a wonderful show. I was a kid when this came out so I focused on the action scenes and battles. I picked up some of the dialogue of war and peace, etc... But only when you get older and have lived and seen what people are really like. The impact of war on people. The hate in people and their desires for revenge and to even the score.
Only then one can see how brilliant this show is. How smart the writers are and wise. They understood human beings self destructive natures but also their capacity to love and desire for peace. Those few wise ones who wish for peace. Embodied in Sinclair, the warrior to peace maker. Even he has his own personal battles with hate for the Munbari.
I think the reason these Sci Fi shows like B5, Star Trek, etc have so much popularity and a devoted fan base even as these shows age (B5 25 years almost since it ended) because it delves into important issues that plague Mankind and would Aliens too. These shows force you to think and grow through introspection. To understand how desires for power and revenge eventually tear you down as well. That compassion and understanding and coexistence is the only course in life that will create peace and not war. To avoid the pain and horror of war.
I hope people learn the lessons taught here and these shows to try and be better people so we can live in peace and not try to kill or dominate each other constantly.
this season really reminds me of the current stuff happening in the world. I guess we never learn(or our leaders).
@@JK-Visions No we don't. There is a saying every generation is doomed to repeat the mistakes of the prior one. Humans live through personal experiences and have to suffer to ingrain these lessons on wars destruction. Maybe if we increase our lifespan to 150 years then war will cease. Because elder statesmen who have experienced bloodshed will be in charge until younger people have grown emotional and intellectual enough to control their violent impulses and self destructive nature's.
Watched this when I was a kid this episode was the first time I saw the shadows. I thought who the hell are they it was really exciting back then 🙂👍🏾
Yes i had the same feeling. And although I know the story it's still exciting to rewatch,,🖖😎
Over the years i enjoyed how THESE characters grew and changed and some new characters added and some others left!!!!!!!!!!! That made for a more fluid and dynamic and a MORE excellent show!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks FOR this look at the 1st season!!!!!!!!!!!! Wasn't this the first appearance off the Shadow creatures and their 🕷 looking screaming ships!!!!!!!!!!!!! That sound STILL gives me shivers and goosebumps!!!!!!!!!!!! Where did this sound originally come from? Was it electronically done or musical in its sound? I always wondered about that!!!!!!!! Thanks again and Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!
They appeared first against the raiders in which they took the centauri artifact. But this episode was the first with the scream yes.
I remember watching the pilot movie where G'kar was a jerk and Londo the more sympathetic one. Then over the course of the series G'kar turned out to be not such a bad dude while Londo whose desire to see Centauri empire rise again went and consorted with the Shadows. Such writing!
I never liked the clunkiness of this attack. Thankfully the special effects team really upped their game in time for The Coming of Shadows.
Yes that's true. Still the suspense made up a lot for the lack of effects.
Gods damn but B5 was truly epic.Great job
Thanks:)
Such a great scene... If only Londo truly had regret for taking Narn lives after this episode. Also loved those Narn Ta Loth battlecruisers... I wish they showed up more. Could you please upload a scene from Survivors? Its' a small scene at the end where Jeff talks with Michael and gives back his badge after bieng cleared of his frame, and we get Jeff's amazing laugh. "Is that a promotion I sense?" "Dream on...!"
You are absolutely right. I just made the video about Garibaldi for a raise and Jeff laughing out loud so to speak for you and everyone else.
Have fun!
Thanks for the tip.
He had regret, but he would live with it. Too many a time 😮
@@udirt being able to live with the regret is what caused his planets demise.if londo had said no to the shadows the first time they may not have had any influence on his world .cintara prime would still be a living breathing world instead of a dead world.
*_"What do you want?"_*
This vignette just a sample of how great Babylon 5 was, and how much I look forward to the re-boot hopefully will come to pass.
The reboot will be atrocious. No faith at all in it.
Mr Morden, "looking a little crispy"😄
One of the funniest lines in the whole show!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😅😀😃😄🎇🎆💥!!!!!!!!! Happy New Year everyone
John "Nuke 'Em" Sheridan likes his Mordens extra crispy LOL :P
Up until this moment, I was just thinking this was just an ordinary, 'everydays of the space station' series. It certainly had its great moments, but I also observed incomprehensible, unconnected, unfinished storylines. But, this moment, this episode has proven that something great is about to begin.
Yes, my thoughts exactly at the time. And every episode was excitement after this one.
JMS said that when he was thinking of a new show, he realized that he had two ideas: he wanted to do a show that shows fall and rise of empires and another show that shows people living in a space station. Then one day he realized that those two could be combined and that's how Babylon 5 became what it was.
Its' a shame the Narn Ta'Loth heavy cruisers don't appear again. I would have loved to see them again...
Yes loved them too. They looked weak. Would love to have seen them in battle against the Centauri or Earth.
@@JK-Visions They were weak, only half of firepover to EA Hyperion, they were first capital ship of Narn, mostly from reused older Centauri tech.
Some sources tell that is is attack cruiser. Small and fast ship with troop carrier capacity. Shame indeed that we don't see them after this.
@Deadbeautyqueen it was still extremely undergunned for its size. A Hyperion was better armored and armed and that's technically the size of a Destroyer or Light Cruiser, not even a proper warship like the Omega or Nova for the EA
They were quite weak from what I've heard and were faulty in hyperspace (the dimension that ships jump into). I prefer the G'Quan heavy cruisers as they have some serious bite to them despite the limits of Narn tech.
4:21 That is a mistake that will cost him his head..
Everybody wave up at those lifeless eyes with Vir...
This was the turning point in both G'kar and Londo's futures....Up to this point you thought the Centauri were like the dying Roman Empire and the Narns this up and coming warrior race about to flex their strength into the Universe...then with the Shadows manipulation Londo and the Centauri look to a 2nd coming of the empire built on death and aggression, and the Narns utter destruction beyond what they could imagine....
I always wonder if the reason the shadows focus on the Narns is because they fear the knowledge of the Telepaths being weapons becoming public knowledge.
@@DavidKnowles0 i think it was just bad luck that G'Kar was self righteous enough to only want revenge on Centauri but Lando had a more wistful hunger for general greatness. So from the shadows pov if they helped G'Kar he would say 'enough' at Centauri Prime while Lando would never say enough.
@@DavidKnowles0 And that they know much aboutthem, even only in religious form
@@DavidKnowles0 I figured the Shadows focused on the Narns is because the Narns were the Centauri's enemies. That almost makes it worse where the Narns weren't being attacked for who they were or what they knew, but because the Narns were simply a useful target.
As in Star Trek, no human ship has close in defense systems ...
Quadrant 37 is not a contradiction. 37 can be a result of continuous numeration of quadrants from multiple round/spherical areas of space. For example, star A has space around it divided into 4 quadrants numbered 1,2,3 and 4, and then star B will have 4 quadrants numbered 5,6,7 and 8 and so on until star J with 4 quadrants numbered 37,38,39 and 40. That way you can simply refer to quadrant's number, without the need to specify the point of reference.
I find the shadows so interesting the fact that they literally hold back their own technology just so the younger races stand a chance against them
2nd best scifi show, ever! (The Expanse is number 1, BSG #3)
I think the expanse needs more humor. But i think its a great number 5 after B5 and Farscape, Battlestar Galactica(original) and Stargate(bot the 10 seasons and Atlantis were equal). But i do think all 5 are amost the same in quality so its just a number. Could be a great nr 2 also.
@@JK-Visions Disagree. The Expanse is the best Sci Fi Show since ages. I like Shows like Farscape too, but they are fairytales compared to The Expanse.
I prefer this (B5) over the Expanse, especially since even the asshole characters on B5 (especially Londo and Bester) are more interesting, deeper and they all have redeeming qualities, something I can't say for the Expanse characters...seriously, the Expanse kind of makes me hate a complete human sub-race! The Belters! Frankly there is not a single Belter character that I remotely like!
The main characters are also worse, hell the Captain of Rosiante is a self-righteous dick in my opinion!
How can there be 37 quadrants. Can't there only be 4.
37th Quadrant. All are divided in 4 parts:)
A frustrating series to appreciate. It has just enough wonderful greatness that it's worth watching, but also has substantial amounts of cheesiness.
Sure. What do you consider cheesy?
@@JK-Visions That episode with Jack the Ripper is a good example.
@@JK-Visions There were so many cheesy episodes. When Ivonova was supposed to sleep with an alien representative to finalize an agreement and she did this stupid dance. The soul catcher episode. The boxing episode. Most of season 1 and 5 was cheesy. Zathras was cheesy though lots of people loved him. The technomages. If I had seen the series more recently, I could name more.
Vorlon walks into a bar and spots a Shadow in the corner.
Who are you?
Shadow:
What do you want?
Narn walks into the bar.
Where did you come from?
Minbari looks at them.
Why are you here?
Human bartender.
Where are you going?
A "quadrant" is one fourth of something. Quadrant _37?_
37 quadrants, just like sectors.
@@JK-Visions Google the word "quadrant".
PIKE!
I noticed they edited out the scene where G'Kar's women left his room, freeing his schedule so he could see Sinclair. I wonder if Narns are anything like Klingons, who supposedly have two penises.
Perhaps we will find out in the new series haha.
The Centari male has, what, 6 prehensile/tentacle like penis. Londo alludes to this when talking about one of their gods, and you see it in a different episode using it to cheat at a card game. They still would have the Narn's beat in that regard.
@@JustMePatrick Just think what HBO could do with this. I could easily see the remake project transferring over to HBO, especially now CW is up for sale.
As a "Quadrant" shouldn't there only be four of them? Not 37+.
Sector 37 would be a better name.
Yes but that would be star trek;)
@@JK-Visions no, that would be English. Quad in Quadrant is four. It's when you break up an area in to four pieces.
@@RetroRobotRadio It could also be a quadrant of a sector, where a sector is a given area, divided into four parts. I can divide any given area into "quadrants" easily, and use any naming system I choose. That is also English.
@@TheMajorActual no I think the writers just made crap up.
@@RetroRobotRadio All writing is crap, to those who don't like it. And in science-fiction -- ALL science-fiction -- every single word is literally make-believe, made-up crap. But the question is, do you want to look like you're imitating your competition - who are famous for fabulously deranged technobabble, to the point of coining the term - or do you use a different word to describe a place in space? If you want to make money and hold viewers, you try to be different. I love Babylon 5 -- but if I really wanted to, there are plenty of things that I could find to complain about it.
But bitching over the name applied to a region of space is just dumb, mouth-breathing, petty neck-bearding, and an even bigger waste of time. Complain about CGI. Or improbable aliens. Or dingbat politics. Or why the Omega-class has the absolutely worst rotational gravity section in fiction.
Complain about something of importance.
a quadrant is one of four parts, so there is no such thing as quadrant 37 :) :)
Mmmm interesting:);)
Perhaps there are 37 quadrants with 4 areas:)
Typical humans, using limited human mathematics.
Perhaps it's a special classified area
Get a grip, son, all that awesomeness. And your going on about numbers. Take the show for what it is.
I like that you are showing content you did not make. Not subing for that. Now if you made your own content.....
I am thinking about it. But it's hard to figure it out. I made the videos because I want to watch an episode in 5-10 min instead of 42. It went a bit viral lol But intent to make some stuff of my own though I am still not sure which sci Fi subject or how.
@@JK-Visions JK, Love your attitude. It will take you far. They say...talk about what you know. :) Good luck.
dude, the clipping is horrible.
Still learning. But i think it is getting better.
