9:36 as ominous wind or silver wind, i see them More as a "arcane ritual to call out power", wether from ghost, prehistoric instincs or ... Bug magic.
"Rock Polish" can also hint at the fact that if the rock pokemons polishes its edges off it becomes lighter, since the polishing itself removes parts of its body to make it smoother, this resulting in faster movement due to it's decreasing weight.
It could be the Rock-type equivalent to Autotomize.

@@darkmask6473 which is why if we find ourselves behind a semitruck, large work truck or a dump truck of any kind, get the hell outta the way, or space yourself far back. Most of those go way slower than the speed limit, so passing them is your best bet.

Well, if it’s a “punch the ground and cause a massive stone spike” type move, you could easily use that spike to be a shield.
@@borby4584 Do you know what a counter shield is? It is an offensive move in a form of a defensive move that both blocks another's attack and attacks them when they least expect it. In other words it's both an offensive and defensive move. Besides the word counter in counter shield is self explanatory

The only aspects to the Togepi line I could find that even remotely justify access to Ancient Power were
1. Its resemblance to fairies, who kind of have that ancient, mystical concept to them, like they're very in touch with nature
2. Misty's Togepi was found in Grandfather Canyon in the anime, a location known for housing fossils.
Both of these are a stretch, at best, but that's really all there is.

it's possible that wide guard is supposed to imitate a Dam of sorts?
Since one of the moves it blocks is surf; which is basically a lot of water sort of just in a big wave/
Perhaps to act as a barrier to prevent surf form affecting a Pokemon against the large amounts of water/Keep it at bay.
Can't explain how it would work for earthquake though....

Sounds sort of possible. But i wouldn't say a dam. Those are ment to be permanent, where as wide guard is only useful for a single turn. More like temporary barriers.

@@qxtn can you get me a link? Because I doubt the stat spread for a single Pokemon would look like that. Especially since many of those numbers are higher than what Protopass is capable of (those speed numbers definitely don't look like base 40 numbers lol)

I always figured sandstorm and rock moves were like "earth bending" Sandstorm is just moving a crap ton of very fine rocks/dirt.

For me, whenever I use stone edge when I play Pokemon I prefer to picture how it appears when Ash's Krookodile uses it anime: sharp stones swirling around the user before being launched at the opponent. Seems cooler like that in my opinion.

Actually, in the anime and in the move description, stealth rock is actually a field of rocks that can "levitate". When the opponent enters the battle, the rocks float up and crush the opponent

They wanted to keep Crush Grip a signature move.
@@JamesDavy2009Diancie doesn't literally crush air lol. She uses magic to pressurize the air and turn it into diamonds. So she basically can telekinetically squeeze the air...which does indeed beg the question as to why she doesn't compress the enemy lol
Still got rock wrecker and stealth rock wrong. The former is tied to Rhyperior's pokedex entry and the latter doesn't act like spikes but as floating, invisible, homing mines.
I'd say the logic of Wide Guard is that it raises rocks from the battlefield to narrow the path between the combatants like a chasm, thus wide area attacks are too crowded to hit other targets.
I've always thought Wide Guard involved the Pokémon using rocks to create an obstacle that can blunt big sweeping attacks so they don't do anything, like a short wall or a series of pillars

Rock type moves are super effective against these types:
-Ice: Rocks/stones can be used to break ice.
-Fire: Rocks can make a dead end of the fire, prevent the fire from spreading further, as in campfires.
-Bug: Rocks can be used to smash tiny insect's body.
-Flying: Throwing a rock to flying fauna like birds and bats can make it to fall to the land as in 'Kill two birds with one stone' phrase.
The only things I can think of for Smack down being a rock type move is either A. It's based off the saying killing two birds with one stone or B. It's name is based off the Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who had a pretty significant impact on both Monday Night Raw and WWE Smackdown

The only reason sandstorm is rock type is because it's meant to hit flying type pokemon that are normally immune to ground attack, although I don't understand why they just couldn't change the program of the attack so that it hit flying type while remaining ground but I'm not a computer engineer so

I think we call "wide guard" the things that are on the coast for avoiding tsunami. At least in frensh ( the two mean the same ) this is the explanation. So "the wide" in this case mean the sea. I hope it's true.

Wide guard make sense as a rock type. I mean as you have said it took reference to those two wall but also toward the more natural cliff and other rock construct. For example for cliff near the sea, while it is true that the sea will slowly corode the cliff it is also true that until then the cilff would hold off any waves lower than itself from entering the land or when inside of a cave you're pretty much immune from being carpet bombed by a bomber plane. It create a wall that disrupt your opponent from hitting the area you're in from the outside. However, your opponent can just get inside and hit you with smaller attack forsaking a bigger attack due to fear of hitting itself. Hence the rock type and why it only block moves that hit more than one pokemon.

For Wide Guard I almost kind of picture a cartoony scene where they hide behind a giant boulder to shield themselves from incoming lava or avalanches.

Wide guard I think it's some kind of small rock wall Pokémon can protect by crouching, that's why they can be safe from point blank wide attacks and be hit by other better aimed attacks.
