Gnoggin, hosted by its creator Lockstin, is a show delving into the mysteries of Pokemon! (and other games sometimes too). Explaining everything there is to explain! Why is each Pokemon given the type it has? What are their origins? What is the lore of the Pokemon world and the design inspirations? And what does it all have to do with alchemy? Let's Go find out!
Most of these moves require devastating, internal draconic energy so powerful only dragons can use it.
And then smeargle uses it by seeing and sketching it once.
Smeargle is the jesus to arceus' god
Arad Seyed and Bidoof is the Holy Spirit
Best Part, If we go by the Pokemon Special Manga, Smeargle's Sketched moves also have the same Properties of the user. The painter doesn't think you're too special
Enter : The artist
The same artist who make a signature move got totally wrecked by GF
You could say the same about the cute little pink blob Ditto. The *least* dragon-like of all Pokémon!
I have a fun fact! Draco Meteor was actually a fan named move that was voted in an old CoroCoro issue in Japan. I say, it was a great name for such a powerful move!
It's also a pun. The Japanese word for meteor is ryusei, which means "dragon star". I guess the ancient Japanese thought that meteors were dragons returning to the planet.
still i really wish it was a rock type move

fun fact: dragon rage was the only dragon type move in gen 1, but because it's a set damage move, it can't deal super effective damage. this meant that dragon's self weakness was pointless until gen 2.
Wouldn't it have been lovely if it doubled with crits and type advantage? So that, when you land a crit on a dragon, you don't get 40 or 80, but deal 160 total damage.
THAT IS-
OH MY GOD-
So dragonite only had 1 weakness in gen 1?
Damn.
@@sonicthehedge rock and ice?

Tbh i forgot Rock type moves exist but they suck anyways so your best chance was ice moves
Also Fun Fact with Outrage: It could also come from a story of such that explains that dragons get irritated when a scale is grown in the wrong way, causing immense rage.
Sooo like an ingrown hair or nail on a human?? Huh, I didn't know us people are capable of such a dragon type move X3
Well, it's actually a _specific_ scale - usually under their neck or something. It's really just a far more tender area on their skin where they are _really_ sensitive.
@@sterlingmuse5808 9:41 is that a dragon falling to it's death?
Well in German, Outrage is named Wutanfall (meaning "tantrum" or " a fit of rage") soo I guess that scale thingy might be the case
A reverse scale? I think that's what its called in eastern culture.
Fun fact: Outrage's Japanese name Gekirin can also be read as "Reverse Scale", a property of many Eastern Dragons who are normally calm, but has this one scale that is in reverse compared to the dragon's other scales, and if touched, the Dragon goes into a fit of rage.
This term "Gekirin" has since become an idiom for "A trigger point for an otherwise calm and regal person"

I've got an explanation for Dual Chop. I always considered that move the signature move of the Haxorus line, which is a Pokemon that has two blades on either side of its face. While I'm sure the slew of fighting types that learn it chop in the traditional sense of a fighting move, Haxorus and Garchomp, the two Pokemon that learn it in its debut game of Black and White, literally have blades on their bodies and chop much like a kitchen knife would. This is also why Sceptile gets it, because he's got the whole Leaf Blade gimmick.
Of course in Black and White 2 suddenly tons of non-bladed Pokemon get it.
Ikr
Maybe Dual Chop is inspired by Dragon Style Kung Fu, which involves a lot of sweeps and *chops*
Makes sense
That explanation is a lot more stylish and fun compared to the boring yet probably true “it was axew’s signature move in the same way as razor shell being oshawott’s signature move, and thus needed the STAB”
And that's also the reason why Scrafty learn it and is born from the "dragon" eggs only: because he's inspired from Dragon-Style Kung Fu (and I'm asking myself, since it can be found in Unova's city suburbs and Unova is based on NYC, is Scrafty basically the Pokemon version of real life Wu-Tang Clan's rapper and kung fu lover RZA?)

Haha that Clefairy got hit by outrage because gen 5
Take that Clefairy
I also now have a new appreciation for dragons
I love that you have been addressing the concept of energy in this series, I believe that is a key mechanic of types and type match-ups in the Pokemon world and its the first time I see anyone address it as such. I believe that attacks, even the ones with a less than obvious connection to a specific type, still use the elemental energy to be performed, this would explain why "dual chop" even if its is just a physical action, does not affect the likes of fairies. It is all imbued and powered with this energy, even if its connection to the type itself is not incredibly obvious.
Twister also could be a dragon move because tornado in Japanese is Tatsumaki, which literally translates to dragon twister or Dragon rolling/spinning.
I look forward to the video on Roar of Time, since that is my personal favorite Dragon type move, I just wish that Arceus could naturally learn it, I mean, it CREATED Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, so technically speaking, it SHOULD be capable of using at MINIMUM, their signature moves

Alolan exeggutor is based off of the namesake for the coconut, which was a dragon
I dont understand why people dont see that there are stupider reosons for pokemon types like why aint flygon bug type
Also in hawaii lore the coconut tree was birthed from a giant dead lizard. Which are in the same general family group as dragons and dinosaurs
@@realhemi Problem is that while dinosaurs and lizards are reptiles they are not in the same families. Their closest common ancestor would be in Reptilia alone.

I’m looking forward to when you go over Dark moves and how on earth they work. Because it seems like the logic is, “The otherwise normal bite can actually hit a ghost because it is done unfairly..”
I love the raw power of a dragon type's attacks. There's a reason why I love this type
Dragon and Psychic to me are my favorites. Fairy and Dark are interesting concepts to their weaknesses but Jesus Fairy being immune...ist a murder. Psychics should be able to learn some Dragon and energy moves.
Thy Anomaly so many psychic types are creepy. There the obvious hypno there’s gothitell who possesses sleeping kids so it can have someone to play with. I’ve started to call the psychic type the pedo type because of Pokémon like these.
I mean the dragon type has Frickin dragons so obviously anyone who doesn't like this type is mental.
So Outrage is the Pokemon move equivalent to the Avatar State.
Nice.
Why Alolan Exeggutor is dragon is because the palm tree they are based are from the dracanea family, and well it sounds like dragon lol.

I always thought it was dragon type because it got overgrown, and Dragons are a symbol of power. Never thought lockstin would use the exact same logic.
Huh. Never realized how few dragon moves there are.
Hopefully Gen 8 will ad a Dragon Type Version of Flare Blitzs
I think the Japanese name for outrage (imperial rage) is more related to the general lore of dragons. It's said that every dragon has a scale that runs in the opposite direction compared to the rest of its scales, this scale is really special because it's said it can get the dragon so furious (if touched) it will destroy everything around it in an attack of blind rage (also a good explanation of why it confuses the user after a few turns)

Is there an Explanation for why Rayquaza's Signature move "Dragon Ascent" is Flying Type
Probably because Rayquaza is more of a flyer than a dragon and it's mega form ability Delta Stream reflect this.
Because Rayquaza is the master of the sky just as Kyoga is the master of the sea and Groundon is the master of the earth. The whole land, sea and sky thing. Flying is the sky type as dragon is the magic type explained here.
So it wont be negated by Fairy types.
@@squallthegriever can chatot learn twister?
"The Japanese name of this move literally means "to paint a dragon and dot its eyes" and serves as a metaphor for the finishing touch in a piece of work that gives it "the spark of life". The idiom originated from a legend where Zhang Sengyou, a Chinese painter, completes the dragons on a mural by dotting their eyes and thus literally bringing them to life; they spring out of the temple wall and fly off. The completed dragons immediately ascended to the heavens after the work was done."

If USUM are anything to go by, the pokedex will probably have at least 4/500 pokemon in it. I'm sure they'll include as much as they can to allow transfers. Most people won't even notice this.
Wasn't it obvious that they would do this sooner or later? We are close to 1000 different Pokemon for crying out loud! Yeah, am gonna miss those that don't make the cut, but I can understand were the developers are coming from. They simply want to make their work easier. Is pretty taxing having to code +1000 different creatures, we have to remember that they would have to code their animations, their moveset, their shinies. were they can be encountered and their encounter rate, etc. Is simply too much to program. Just see how exhausting it was to program Ultimate and that is an smaller game (in terms of what's there to program), is no doubt that this one would have been harsher on them.
Besides, with +1000 Pokemon it has become even harder to place them in the field. I mean, think about it, how would you make at least the 70% catchable? It would be pretty hard, you would require at least 50 routes (or "Wild Areas") to even be able to fit them all!. Pokemon was just too ambitious for its own good!.

Twister and Draco Meteor are both wordplay in Japanese.
Twister in Japanese is "tatsumaki" (たつまき or 竜巻), which means "tornado", but the characters translate individually as "dragon spiral" or "dragon coil" (or "dragon roll"; "maki" means "something that is wound around itself" and is the same word used for rolled sushi), hence the dragon typing.
Draco Meteor in Japanese is "ryūseigun" (りゅうせいぐん or 流星群), which means "meteor shower", but the "ryū" (流) at the beginning (meaning "flowing" where a meteor is a "flowing star") is a homophone for "ryū" (竜) meaning "dragon" (i.e. 竜星群, which would mean "dragon-star swarm" if it were a real word, would be pronounced exactly the same).
No Zorro reference during the Core Enforcer part?
What if Dual Chop being a barely-Dragon-y move that's purely meant for non-Dragons to learn it for balancing reasons is exactly the in-universe behind said move? "It's a move that requires so little Arcane magic, many non-Dragons began to practice it as a means to counter any Dragons that may threaten them" or something like that? Maybe not likely, but a fun theory.
Almost all the moves have "dragon" in the name, lets make some dragon moves:

You said in your previous video dragons use raw power to fuel their attacks. Forcing magical energy in a pre designated path. I believe Lucario's aura is a refined type of energy. Lucario can also release his aura in an uncontrolled wave, (Dragon Pulse) but can't STAB with it as he is also not used to applying his power in such a way.
