Excellent diagnosis and explanation of what you repaired. Too many times testing doesn’t take place and techs go straight to replacement of parts. Nice job

Wow man, world would be a better place with more technicians like you! Liked and subscribed. I have a same exact 2011 3.8 Genesis. Here's my issue. I have OBD scanner connected reading voltage. It stays 14.1-14.2 at idle or when cruising. However drops as low as 11.9-12.3 when I would start moving from a dead stop or even if I rev it hard from idle. It then gets back up to 14.1. But every time I accelerate from the dead stop, it drops to around 12 volts. Again at idle and while cruising it's consistent at 14.1-14.2 Where would you start diagnosing, what would be your prime suspect? Ground wire? Alternator wire itself? Car runs and drives perfectly fine. Sat for 2 weeks and started right up. Daily driver. Just that weird voltage drop over 2 volts that I see every time I get off the line or rev at idle Thank you! Any info is greatly appreciated!
Pavel it sounds like the voltage regulator is failing!! check the alternator wiring first, if everything checks out ok then the problem is most likely the alternator!!
Did you figure this out? Mine is 14.2 consistently but at freeway speeds or above 50mph it's 12.6... isn't the voltage regulator built into the alternator on these vehicles?
Hello K! I have the exact same issue right now with my Hyundai Genesis 2011 S 3.8. I took it to the dealership and they said that I need a new alternator (already replaced battery). However, they are charging me $1100. The representative said I do not have to get it done at the dealership but he recommends that the alternator is from the Hyundai factory as this car is not too compatible with non-factory parts. My question is, is there some place I can buy this exact alternator for my car? If so, once I buy it, would it be smarter to get it replaced at the dealership or at an auto body shop? (You need to remove the motor mount in order to put in alternator so labor work is expensive). Thank you in advance!
Dean Offner you can get this alternator from any other parts store, I got mine from Pepboys, when you buy the alternator make sure you ask for a great quality alternator, A denso alternator will be ideal, and you don't have to remove the motor mount to get it replaced, any Professional Auto Shop can do the job, it's pretty easy, I hope they did a voltage drop test, because a bad alternator wire can cause the same symptoms... Good Luck!!!
i have a 2017 Genesis its been in the shop 3 times . because the battery wont stay charged. everytime the dealership replaces battery. the car starts for a whole week then the battery stops charging again. one time it stayed at dealership for a whole month. they are just guessing. i am ready to sell but i cant take on another carnote. do you have any suggestions . thank u
How you doing bro ? I just replace a transmission on a 2006 ford freestyle i try to start it but it won’t start or crank do you have any idea please let me know thanks.
I replaced the battery, alternator check all the fuses to make sure everything is correct and still loosing the power overnight, I bring to 3 shops already but anyone can find the problem.
i replaced my battery & alternator recently - but my battery light still comes on & off whenever i’m at a stop & then start to go again. any suggestions?
Man, my 2012 Hyundai Genesis 3.8L sedan started too cut off on me when coming too a stop. Such as a stop sign or red light. I’ve never had this problem before after driving it for about 2 years no issues. I went too autozone and they tested the battery with their computer and they told me that the battery was 100% but the alternator was pushing out low voltage so it needed too be replaced. I went ahead and bought a new alternator and put it in and took the car back too get another battery/starting system/ charging system test for it too come back showing the starting and charging system was bad. I’m not sure what to do now being that the battery is 100% with a new alternator but the test coming back bad.
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair no just a test on the battery before the car starts and then after it is started they run a startup test and charging test through the same computer used too test the battery. Should I bring the car back too have them run a voltage drop test?
I have this problem but when I connect jumper cables to the brand new battery in the back the car cranks but does not start and as soon as I disconnect the cables the car instantly dies.Could that be the alternator?
NLMB Quan your charging system needs to be tested, you should have a pro mechanic diagnose it for you!! before you replace the alternator because you could have a wiring problem also!!
I had this issue and the battery terminal bolt just needed to be tightened more... little odd connection since it is a top bolt not a side bolt like most terminals.. the hyundai battery has a little larger posts than some batteries I think. Also there is a bolt hole to switch from h8 to larger h9 battery!
I have a 2011 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 ,I’m having the issue where the seatbelt light blink 4 times with no sound and then the battery light will come on the shut off all together and then randomly start again over and over but not consistently I would say it shows up 4 times in a span of 6 min and then be fine for 30min (besides the tpms light being on )
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair thx u some much, the last owner had the same problem but the car would shut off (hasn’t been giving me the same trouble)they replaced the alternator and battery just 5 months ago but they must’ve put a bad alternator or done something for it not to work .
