    Its definitely not what I expected. for months now I saw this game on steam in my recommended games, and kept passing over it paying it little attention. Turns out, it is everything and more I could ever ask for in a chill, casual game. Its about as addicting as Stardew for me.

    I didnt discover a few things until my 2nd and 3rd playthrough. 1. There are coconuts on far north isles. Grow them. They are worth it. 2nd. If you place a planter or pot ontop of the bones and skulls you see around the dog places you get a brand new flower and its the only way to get it to use to decorate your place.

    I accidentally built camp right next to a Tasmanian Devil den and they would terrorize my camp every single night. After roughly 15 hours in I was this close 🤏🏼 to punting my island then i found out you can move buildings for 25k dinks and i just went that route and am now at a waaaay better location. Love this game so much

  • @gilladams1521
    @gilladams1521 Год назад +4

    You can also get more sleeping bags from the pile in the corner of the base tent. Also the timer does not start until you place both the base tent and your tent. So you can explore the whole map, select a good site and collect heaps of foragable items to give you a head start on your progress and your dinks.

    • @BeccawithaBook
      @BeccawithaBook  Год назад +1

      Oh my gosh that is a really good tip! I didn’t even notice the time didn’t start until then. You could grind for ages and set yourself up nice from the get go! Thanks for letting me know that!

    • @gilladams1521
      @gilladams1521 Год назад +2

      @@BeccawithaBook another time trick is to do your value-adding at night. You can grind and saw and cook and craft and smelt with very little expenditure of energy. Therefore you can do them for as long as you like at night. When it gets “late” ie 12, your energy bar drastically shrinks, but time stops. So you can work away at processing all your items and get ready for selling them at a premium the next day.

    About the sleeping bag, you can actually play a day for unlimited time. After you hit Midnight the game displays "late" and after that the day just never ends. Your Stamina does take a serious hit, so you can't really work anymore, but if you stay away from Cassowaries and Bushdevils AND don't try to swim through broad rivers you can make it back home quite comfortable. ;P

    • @BeccawithaBook
      @BeccawithaBook  Год назад +1

      Yep! It is nice that you can kind of keep going. You could spend all day doing whatever you need to do and when it gets late do little stuff like cooking and material prep

    Yea, this game has certainly pulled me in. I can't wait to see what comes as the development progresses.
    If you don't want to deal with aggressive animals at all, I would recommend the Peaceful Miner mod over on Nexus (I use it to pacify the bats in the mines). You can set overland and deep mine monsters to passive. Can also turn off their spawns, but I would advise against that since you might actually need the meat they drop.

    Great vid. Luv seeing the stream footage of Pat and Blaine on your island. Very funny and chaotic as always. 😹I'd really like to try this game. Hoping it comes to switch. I don't think my laptop could run it. Also, how similar is this game to Stardew? I wanna play it, but it always seems very intimidating. Dinkum doesn't feel that way. Thanks. Always luv your streams. 😸🌸

      I would say Dinkum is a good way to dip your toes into Stardew. If you enjoy the way Dinkum works, you’ll most likely enjoy Stardew. It’s just on a bigger scale, there’s romance options, more to do, etc. The mechanics are very similar in terms of the time management aspect. Just a different story with different tasks!

    is there any benefits on sleeping outside when you're very far away from home?
    12midnight becomes LATE and I never had any instances where I drop on the floor
    only thing that will limit this graveyard shift is your limited stamina bar
    the only thing which would force you to do sleeping bag is when:
    1. you've run out of foods, and no forage-able are found on your island and the island next to it (probably a river)
    2. you're located very far from mainland, with swimming would deplete your stamina first before reaching the mainland.
    a good tip: you can actually cook, craft and process things during the LATE and no stamina would be used. it's best to cook at LATE if you're cooking, making cements, ingots, planks, crafting by batch. it's not the stamina that's wasted but the amount of time you wasted in the morning while doing a batch craft.

    • @BeccawithaBook
      @BeccawithaBook  Год назад

      The only real benefit I can think of are the ones you listed, like if you're far away. For instance, my camp is in the south but currently I'm farming fish & insects from the tropics so sometimes I'll head up there and spend a couple of day moseying around before heading back. The cooking/crafting tip is great and really helpful for time management as well!

    I only ever want to fight mobs on my terms.
    So, I carry fences with me when I go trapping. And then when I see something I want to catch, I place them all down in bunches grouped together to make an impromptu platform that I can safely stand on and jab at them from ...until they're weak enough to trap! If they're weak enough they won't resist the cage or try to break free. But if they're not sufficiently weakened they will break free and return to full health. I make about 80K/ per night just trapping! Porcupines are so easy this way but the fire-breathing devil dogs can sometimes burn me a little... And I haven't tried it down in the Deep Mines yet but it would make for a very convenient pop-up killing floor that would put you on the Bat's eye level so you wouldn't need to jump anymore to hit them. Fences FTW :) Just clean up what you wanna keep!

      @@BeccawithaBook Lol that's a great way to get meat especially when you are just starting and have no weapons. You must spec into hunting to get the spear blueprint and the other tools just won't cut it. Even the hammer and club can't be had until you get the hunting license. But following the dingos will always get you fed. And Meat is essential to hp regen. I'm glad the dev made it that way so that even a non-violent person such as yourself can play the game on your own terms.

      It’s so hard to say a best place. Realistically it would be near the center for easy access to all biomes but every map is different so it’s hard to say. I’ll probably end up moving whole base eventually because I don’t love where I located it. It’s nice being near water but I don’t like having the ocean as a backdrop.

    My mother inlaw came to my island and she couldn't open up the chest that you pick up in the deep mines, so maybe if you open your world, have your items in them chest, this way people can not steal from you. Wonder if someone steals or ruins something, if host just logs off without sleeping, everything will go back to normal....
