    Who would have thought something so simple could be such a meaningful fix! Thanks to your video I avoided a whole host of trouble shooting that would have taken countless hours and lots of $$$.... Culprit vacuum line found dangling and issue resolved! You're a STAR!

    You know I feel like an idiot for not thinking to look at the line going from the vcc to the transmission. I can’t wait to get home and see if that is what it is on my W116 300SD. Beautiful W126 car by the way and great video really appreciate it!

      Let me know what you find! And don’t feel like an idiot! I was racking my brain and texted the previous owner, who’d nursed this car back to health. He told me to look down below, and lo and behold, there was the issue. Fixed in minutes!

      @@docthediesel7781 Thank you!!! It was completely disconnected and just dangling there. Unfortunately the plastic male end snapped off the vacuum modulator so I will need a new one. They don’t make them anymore but found a website that had a NOS one. Will report back how that works. That owner sounded super helpful

      So the NOS transmission modulator was out of stock. Going into Mercedes-Benz EPC I found you can buy just the modulator cap (the part that has the plastic male end that goes into the vacuum hose that was broken on mine) and Mercedes luckily still makes this part. Put that on and got a rubber hose to connect it between the cap and the line. Finally got the car back on the road after rebuilding the fuel injectors, new filters, hoses, fuel strainer, valve adjustment, intake/exhaust manifold gasket, charge pipe gaskets, turbo oil feedline/return line gaskets, injector return lines, etc to try the transmission. It worked!!!!! It shifts flawlessly now. Super smooth, and isn’t shifting too early or too late now! It’s like having a new transmission. Thanks again so much!!!!!

    I noticed your reversing valve was bypassed. In my case it was missing altogether. Installing a new one was a night and day difference.

    Proper diagnostics can make things much easier. Since many things are controlled by vac, a visual check would be the first thing to do. After that an actual vac test would be next on each individual line or system. A loss on one line will affect the others.

    Hey Doc! Thanks for the video. I am getting a "thunk" on my SL when shifting into reverse sometimes and the car jerks a bit. I will check this as soon as the rain passes and I can get it outside in the daylight where I can see properly. Hoping this is the issue.

    Thanks for this video, I have a OM615 engine and transmission and when I start the car, not always does it want to go in first or reverse. I pump the clutch a few times, and hold the shifter to go in gear, the car would roll forward a bit, but not going in gear. When I turn the engine off, it would go in, and then i start in gear, stuff like this. I am not sure if this engine operates in the same way as this one with that vacuum line, I will check it when I get to the car, but what do you think? Thanks!

    Hello i have a 1987 mercedes 300d when you shift into foreward or reverse gear it takes a couple seconds for transmission to engage. It drives ok and doesn't slip but when its cold it shifts a bit hard from 1st to 2nd. After its warmed up a few min it shifts nice. The transmission fluid and filter are new synthetic fluid and oem filter and gasket. .
    Old fluid looked good with no metal. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. Robert

      I’ve not had that problem, so I couldn’t say for sure. You may want to look up Impalaman’s Garage here on YT. He has a 300SD he’s done a lot of work on; he might know.

    what size was the rubber line?

    • @docthediesel7781
      @docthediesel7781  Год назад +1

      Honestly, I don’t know. I just took off the old rubber from my vacuum control valve in the O’Reilly Auto Parts parking lot and walked in and asked for a length of rubber the same size. They took me to the back and matched it and sold me a foot of the rubber for a dollar or so.
