Hey everyone! I'm adding this after reading COUNTLESS comments saying "It's not country!" and many of you mentioned that "Cajun" was the word I was looking for when trying to describe that unique sound. For those who don't know, Nick is from Germany and grew up in Mexico, so English is his third language. Which means, he's not too well-versed when attempting to describe different Southern regions within the US after living here for 4 years. When I mentioned "Cajun" to him he said he had never even heard that word, so I had to explain the meaning. In his [understandably unacquainted] mind, he uses the word "country" to describe anything Southern-sounding without regard to region. Hope this makes sense and thank you for watching and commenting! Love, Lex
Of course.....and I love your Florida story. I lived most my life in the Sunshine State and never heard of this town south of Orlando! More Little Feat! They are great with cerveza.
Little Feat is a major rabbit hole worth going down. Cajun influences, often called “swamp rock” - these guys are a joyous band with an obvious sense of humor. This live album “Waiting for Columbus” is their opus maximus. To say nothing of the fact that their lead singer & guitarist (the late, great Lowell George) has roots that go back to early Frank Zappa! They originated in California, believe it or not.
"Country" is a huge, huge category and it very much has its own Cajun influences (Hank Williams "On the Bayou" anyone?), so Nick wasn't even really wrong! The bigger thing here is thinking you're not country fans; sounds like a good opportunity for more reactions to me. Flying Burrito Brothers, or the Byrds Sweetheart of the Rodeo, or Linda Ronstadt's album Silk Purse would be good country rock starters if you're not ready to just go full-on Texas Playboys.
Back in the early 1970s when i was in high school Little Feat was one of my best friends and my favorite bands. When seeing them live and how enthusiastic the crowds were I still find it hard to believe people think of them as an underappreciated band. Personally I thought they were one of the best live shows ever , i couldnt stand still . These two would be suprised to learn they were from the L.A. area.
Little Feat’s style of music is so difficult to peg. It’s not country, and despite what others have said they’re not a “jam band” or southern rock. Depending on the song, they used whatever style of music met the needs of the song. You’ll hear funk, barrelhouse piano, fusion, Louisiana rhythms, blues… And as Nick noted, the structure of Lowell’s songs are really unusual. You’ll find some very odd time signatures.
Appreciate this request, AA, and they aren’t easy to categorize. This track gives me Mardi Gras parade greasy dive with pumpin’ piano, spicy gumbo lyrics and soulful funk and a hint of swampy boogie woogie with a cousin in Southern Rock slide and blues. I pair this track with Dr John, Neville Brothers ... and do you enjoy the Wild Tchoupitoulas? Other tracks, (you reminded me of “Red Streamliner”) are jazzier. So happy to see this band on the channel. Great combination of musicians and styles. Thanks again. ✨🤪

Jimmy Page's favorite American Band. Their music varied a lot - from country blues slide guitar based songs, to more modern styles where synths played a part. The vocalist and slide player here, Lowell George, was actually in one of the first incarnations of Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention, and was the one who showed Bonnie Raitt how to get almost infinite sustain on electric slide guitar by daisy chaining compressors. I really like their song "All That You Dream", which doesn't remind me of country music at all.
@@eileendobbs8009 There is a version on this 1978 live album - The original studio recording I was thinking of is on the 1975 album called "The Last Record Album".
Oh so fun to watch y’all react to this! Little Feat, drippin with New Orleans style funk, killah rock, blues, improvisation, this is a great example of an amazing band that knocks the roots of American music out of the stratosphere! ❤
The basic groove of this song comes from what is called a second line groove from New Orleans. Little Featis definitely more swamp rock than country.I agree with others here about the strength of the whole Waiting For Colunbus album.
One of my favorite bands, saw them live six times, once with the TOP horns! I place them in my top ten live groups. Just saw the tour last year with Bill Payne, they filled the place and rocked it out! Play the entire live album! RIP Lowell George and the rest of the members past!
My all-time favorite rock band. Their rhythm section is fantastic. The Dixie Chicken album is a masterpiece. In the 1970s someone asked Mick Jagger what his favorite band was, and he said "Little Feat."
Aww how sweet thank you. ❤️ We actually loved them so much we went to see them live last Summer!! It’s was an amazing show and had a wonderful audience.
... Little Feat used to record on a barge located in Baltimore Harbor ... hung out in Washington DC ... the Md Eastern Shore ... and here in Philly ... we loved them ...
Ritchie Hayward the most underrated groove drummer of all time. Read the hospital records on Time loves a hero. He shouldn’t hav3 been able to play like this. So powerful.
You guys are great. Robert Palmer Sailin Shoes/hey hey Julia/Sneaking Sally Through the Alley has Lowell George from Little Feat producing and playing. It's so amazing and the vocals will blow you away.
I also consider this one of the best rock live albums ever. I've been in the stereo equipment business for almost 50 years and "back in the day" I frequently used Spanish Moon as the music to demo equipment. As you progress with this band you will be entertained by their storytelling skills and be amused by their sense of humor. Two songs stand out that way, Dixie Chicken and Time loves a Hero. Now that you are winding down your reactions to the band I consider the best ever American band, Steely Dan, this band will also make you want to hear more and more.
Someone has probably mentioned this before, but Lowell George played with Frank Zappa early on in his career and his writing style and lyrics reflect that influence along with multiple time signature changes throughout many songs.
I was born in 1960 and I began to listen to Little Feat as a teenager. It wasn't country music, it was stoner music enjoyed alone or in a party atmosphere with your best friends. RIP Richie Hayward; thanks for the great beats.
"Waiting for Columbus" is a fantastic album, the tracks come from several different performances and were cleaned up in the studio. Lowell was quite the character and likely referring to himself when he wrote this. He's playing slide guitar and the cowbell. Not country, southern-fried rock n roll. Check out the live versions of 'Spanish Moon' and 'Dixie Chicken' too.
Ahh...Little Feat...part of the sound track of my misspent youth....all I can do is borrow a quote from Bonnie Riatt: "I miss Little Feat more than I miss being eight years old..."
In the song, Juanita is a lady of the evening and the fat man in the bathtub is a reference to lady parts. Juanita is with another client and he's deciding whether to buy drugs or save it for her.
Little Feat was truly a band that fit the "Your favorite musician's favorite band" narrative. Other musicians knew how savagely underrated by the general public these cats were.
This is from the original school of rock, New Orleans style. Students of the French Quarter & Allen Toussaint sounds. May be "Cajun Rock? Creole style, like the mash up of cooking styles; Cajun (French) African (Carib/Creole), Native American, Spanish (Mexican). Look at the diversity of the guys in the group. Where the Mississippi meets the Gulf of Mexico, where the Delta Blues got real funky!!! Hats off to Norleans from this boy from California, where southern hospitality is not a cliché.....
Love them...rock,funk,jazz..I was 18 in 1975 and wore out their album "feats don't fail me now" Lowell George is a brilliant guitarist..his death shook me way back in 1979 but years later I heard his daughter inara's group the bird and the bee and still listen to them and it really showed his legacy was continued ...this may sound like country but their whole output is so varied..would love to hear you react to the song "feats don't fail me now" keep em comin' my Colorado friends..much love...Kent.
This album was the soundtrack of my college years. You could not walk across campus without hearing some track from this album playing out of a dorm window. Terrific album, I highly recommend it. Spanish Moon, Dixie Chicken, All That You Dream....pretty much anything on the album is fun. Not sure where you're getting country from because although there may be a southern vibe to it, it is really not at all country music. Cajun influence perhaps. Here's Spanish Moon ruclips.net/video/bCROkG4SKao/видео.html
I bought this album in the 70s, as a teenager in rural Nova Scotia. I did not take to it right out of the gate, because I too felt that it was a little too country for my taste. But later I started to warm to the two disk line up. It changed the way I listened to music. I couldn't agree more with you suggestions "Spanish Moon, Dixie Chicken, All That You Dream...". Seriously a great album that I wore out from playing and lending out to friends. And my fear of it turning my interests toward country, never materialized. I went on to many other bands that included Frank Zappa, the new wave movement, Iggy Pop, Steely Dan, XTC, SRV, all things classical and jazz etc. Another suggestion for these two to listen to would be WhIpping Post by the Allman Brothers. Sone serious, mostly rock, southern fried music.
Little Feat!!! One of the best live albums in my humble opinion. You'd probably like the song "Spanish Moon." Lowell George left us way too early, R.I.P. They hail from Los Angeles.
I highly recommend listening to this whole album. Little Feat is backed up by the Tower of Power horn section on this album. My personal favorite on this album is Mercenary Territory.
This is one of those front to back records that has to be listened to in order, hopefully one side at a time... As many have said, one of the greatest live albums of all time...
My generation, 1960’s/1970’s, was blessed with a rich variety of Rock music. Given a choice of bands to choose amongst all from that era, my choices would include Little Feat along with, Led Zep, Beatles, Steely Dan, etc. Lead guitar/vocals Lowell George and the many virtuosos in the band laid down a rich legacy of music that I can never tire of hearing. His slide guitar play was as good as Duane Allman IMHO. I hope you will explore other hits from LF, and get a good feel for their unique, blues/funk/rock sound. I was fortunate to catch them live twice before Lowell George passed away prematurely.
Me too! Did they play the “Don’t Bogart That Joint, My Friend” tune during intermission while roadies gathered all the joints thrown up on the stage?!! 🥳🙌
While Lowell George (lead singer/guitar), Paul Barrere (guitar) and Richie Hayward (drums) have passed on, the remaining members and new additions continue to tour. In fact they are doing the Waiting for Columbus 45th anniversary tour this year.
This entire live album is incredible. Unfortunately, most of the people in the band have dies over the years. You will not be able to see them live besides on video. Please react to Dixie Chicken from this live album if features the Tower of Power Horns.
@@devinerevelations7273 Little Feat is still together and has been since they reformed in 1989. They’re on tour right now. Lowell George, drummer Richie Hayward, and guitarist Paul Barrere have passed away, but the band still has Bill Payne on keys, Kenny Gradney on bass and Sam Clayton on percussion, plus Fred Tackett on guitar (who first played with the band on the Dixie Chicken album), and more recent additions Scott Sharrard on guitar and vocals, and Tony Leone on drums.
Unfamiliar with the territory eh? Try 'Mercenary Territory'. And then snack on some 'Tripe Faced Boogie'. After that I think you will be 'Willin', to 'Roll Another One'! Or have a drink at the 'Spanish Moon'!
Back when they first came out, people used to refer to Little Feat as “the best band that you’ve never heard of”. Unfortunately, I think that statement is still true for a lot of people today.
In my day Little Feat was a great soundtrack for parties as they had alot of sing-a-long choruses in their songs. Dixie Chicken stands out. Very funny story Lex.
There may be a Fat Man In The Bath Tub, but there's No Country For Old Men like me. Great band I'm having flashbacks to my youth and them live!!! Very deep rabbit hole here. c'mon there is an honesty to the 'country' sound and this is a very eclectic blend of said genre. Peace.
Extremely entertained by this one! Thanks for the request Andrew! I was getting a blue grass vibe as Nick mentioned late in the video! A lot of energy ! I will be seeking out some more of their live recordings! Take care my friends!
Country music loves Little Feat, the Dixie Chicks were named after one of their songs...but the Feat are way too funky to be called country. 😁You can hear a blend of blues, funk, country and jazz in their tunes. One of my fav bands all time! Sadly only one original member left. If you haven't already, Ry Cooder is a gem to check out or Little Village, a super group of sorts that Ry was in.
I definetly recommend Day At The Dog Races from their Times Loves A Hero studio album, an incredible prog instrumental that is sure to clean up the nasal passages!
We are all just shaking our collective heads listening to your attempts to categorize Little Feat, with a smile, of course. This album got worn out on everyone's turntable. In fact, this listen with you guys is the cleanest sound that I've heard (of this song) in decades...no scratches. :-)
Welcome to the FEAT rabbit hole. They have some country elements, but I wouldn't consider them a country band. Some have mentioned similarities to Steely Dan and I would totally agree. This album to me is their magnum opus, one of the top 5 live albums ever made. Lowell George is the lead singer (on this) and slide guitar player. Keyboard player Bill Payne sang on some and so did Paul Barrere who plays the other guitar. Drummer Ritchie Hayward was insanely unique and solid, laying down some of the most complex rhythms ever recorded. Bass player Kenny Gradney and percussionist Sam Clayton (brother of Merry Clayton). You should really check out the medley Dixie Chicken/Tripe Face Boogie from this album too. Thanks for the F-E-A-T!!!
I luved reading this. All my thoughts exactly Cajun country if you've ever traveled south France you can too feel like a gypsie feel. I can't explain it. It's like France married to southern man.
Congrats you two, one of my all-time favourite bands...they were both the critic's choice & the musician's musicians...there's no return from this Rabid Hole‼️ Their late, legendary leader, Lowell George, was a multi-instrumental, musical genius. Upon hearing Lowell's, "Willin'", Frank Zappa suggested he leave the Mothers of Invention and form his own band, (which became, Little Feat). A band leader, slide guitar wizard, incredible singer, fantastic songwriter, producer & highly regarded session ace. Graduating from Hollywood High, his father was the furrier to the stars...his next door neighbor, growing up, was Errol Flynn. As his friend, Bonnie Raitt, emphatically exclaimed, he was hands down, the greatest singer/songwriter/guitarist❗ Great ears 🙉 Lex, it's a Louisiana based gumbo...a fusion of New Orleans second line rhythm, country/soul/blues...rock'n'roll❗Again, you mentioned the unusual lyrics, I believe his apprenticeship with Frank Zappa, may have affected his lyrical sensibilties, work ethic, studio rat tendencies, and approach, calling it, "Cartoon Consciousness". Interestingly, both Lowell & Frank's paths crossed in their youth, on the Al Jarvis Show. Good eyes 🙈 noticing Neon Park's killer album cover art. "This was the interview in which Bonnie raved about Little Feat, though I didn’t use those quotes in my Melody Maker piece as everyone raved about Little Feat and it seemed superfluous to requirements. She got quite girly talking about Lowell George, admitting that her and Linda (Ronstadt) would do ‘anything’ to get him to play on their records. I never quite established what ‘anything’ was, but from the look on her face I don’t think it was cleaning his apartment." 🙊
These guys are from LA and a lot of them were studio musicians. I hear jazz and rock and maybe a little cajun. Can't really compare them to anyone, closest maybe Steely Dan but with a lot of slide guitar.
One of the best live bands producing one of the best live albums with an assist from the Tower Of Power horns! There's not a bad cut on Columbus, but please check out Spanish Moon from this same album. I don't remember where I read the review, but it said keyboardist Billy Payne is "Rick Wakeman, if he had been born in New Orleans". Couldn't agree more. And Lowell George... man, oh man. Don't get hung up with the "country" label - this band has many styles, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised as you explore their catalog!
Little Feat is in regular rotation in my playlist. Their concerts were incredible. Lowell George (vocals) used to work for Frank Zappa. I don’t get “country” - more jam band - Cajun funk, jazzy bluesy. From California but with a similar vibe of some bluesy Southern Rock maybe (like Allman Brothers with Funk). Love this band. Many more great tracks. Thanks Andrew! Great request. ✨🤪 (edit: many great artists did covers or backup vocals - Michael McDonald, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Bonnie Bramlett, etc.)
Andrew reminded me of the track “Red Streamliner” which is maybe jazzier by the keyboardist of the group, Bill Payne - and has Michael McDonald doing backups. Thanks, Andrew. I was considering requesting Little Feat too. ✨🤪
Yeah!!! Little Feat. I saw them live in the 70s, when Lowell was still with us. "All That You Dream" and "Sailin Shoes" are great songs too but, "Tripe Face Boogie" is my absolute favorite 💜
Country? That’s pure New Orleans funk .. Oh man, you don’t know what’s ahead of you, please dig in -FEAT is a mix of everything and absolutely incredible ..
Florida also had a large indigenous population back in the day (Seminoles and other tribes) so possibly Wahneta may have been an american indian name as well. Or it might be an "english-ised" spanish name 🤣
I bought this LP in 1978, it was recorded on tour in 1977, saw them at the Fox in Atlanta, it was amazing ! The Feat were the best live band I ever saw.
I always loved this band because of the multiple instruments and percussion and full musicianship. Never thought of this band as "country,' but Lex picked it up that they play with a New Orleans vibe. In fact some of their stuff is downright jazzy. I hope you pursue a deeper dive into this band. This live album is completely enjoyable start to finish, as many commenters have said, this is one of the greatest live albums out there.
There is no other band like them. They were totally unique. That was their blessing and their curse. They were so unique that radio couldn't pigeon hole them, so their work wasn't widely played. Maybe just Dixie Chicken got much air time. The "Waiting for Columbus" album that you listened to that cut from is one of the best live albums, of any kind, ever.
I saw Little Feat a few times live in the 1980’s and 1990’s. They were an excellent live band. One of the shows I went to in Baltimore the band stayed after the show and hung out with their fans.
Hey NicknLex! That was fun to see what you thought of this track. But it’s not country. The original guys in the band were from LA. Then they added the bassist and percussionist who are from New Orleans. The rhythm on this track is New Orleans second line feel. But Lowell George, the writer and singer of this song is from LA and was in Zappa’s Mothers of Invention. His songwriting is really eclectic and his lyrics are rather twisted and sardonic. Lowell started Little Feat with keyboardist Bill Payne. Their influences were very different and their songwriting got more and more divergent in time, and eventually Lowell left the band. You need to check out some of their other stuff. I think if you listened to some of Bill Payne’s songs, you’d never know it was the same band.
@@neonpark1874 Well, he did lose interest and didn’t have much to contribute towards the end, especially on Time Love a Hero and Down on the Farm, and in the midst of that he did his solo album and started a solo tour, and he then stated in an interview that the band had disbanded. So he didn’t leave the band as much as the band broke up.
I saw Little Feat on this tour. All That You Dream is a true gem. LF is so neglected. Back in their day, they were hailed as some of the greatest musicians. RIP Lowell George.
Oh, and that great movie scene is so tense 😬- the luck of a coin flip. And that haircut! I read he (JB) hated it. Lol. Great directors (brothers!), great acting. NCFOM! Brilliant!
I was at the Lisner auditorium when parts of this album was recorded and will see the surviving members this April in Virginia Beach. Please give Dixie Chicken from this album a listen.
I wouldn't describe their music as country, but Little Feat is one of the greatest of all time jam bands. If you DID want to hear some awesome country-rock, try the Allman Brothers and the Marshall Tucker Band.
Marshall Tucker's Where We All Belong album, Side Four, is a real high energy live set, with "24 Hours At A Time", and Charlie Daniels on country fiddle!
Well, Friendo... I just looked at Little Feat's Wikipedia page and it says "Guitarist Jimmy Page stated Little Feat was his favorite American band in a 1975 interview" Lex, I could be wrong, but I think Wahneta is a Native American name, possibly associated with a Sioux tribe. I like your theory, though. lol
Look at you guys checking out Little Feat. They were California based but from all over. Fantastic RnB, Southern Rock, Funk style band from the 1970s. Criminally underrated, they were all about their music and didn't push hard for hits and record sales, kind of the antithesis of the Eagles who were their neighbors. This album is a classic, so are their studio albums.
Lowell George toured with and played guitar and provided vocals on a few of Frank Zappa’s early albums but eventually left to form Little Feat. Unfortunately, Lowell died before I ever got to see them perform, but I caught a couple dates over July 4th weekend when they toured with the Grateful Dead in 1988. Craig Fuller, originally from Pure Prairie League, took over for Lowell on vocals and did a damn fine job.
Lowell George was from California---the "southern" you hear is a barrelhouse New Orleans funk. Try the Neville Brothers, Dr. John next. Little Feat routinely brought down the house. When they were the second bill the audiences wouldn't let them off the stage. I saw this tour in December 1976 just a few months before these recordings in Georgia (in 1977).
Thanks for the Little Feat! 😊 I second someone else's shout out for 'All that you dream' - it's a really great song. But so many Little Feat songs are. Love the band's general 'flavour', the funky beats, vocals - front, band and backing, use of slide on guitar and other 'interesting' instruments, including the cowbells! (now I'm gong to have Honky tonk women on the brain till I go and hear it)

... Little Feat used to record on a barge located in Baltimore Harbor ... hung out in Washington DC ... the Md Eastern Shore ... and here in Philly ... we loved them ...
There is a reason Lowell’s daughter Inara’s middle name is Maryland.
Ritchie Hayward the most underrated groove drummer of all time.
Read the hospital records on Time loves a hero. He shouldn’t hav3 been able to play like this. So powerful.
I’m just so amazed that so many people don’t have a clue about Ritchie. He was an absolute beast on the drums! So complex
And, like Steely Dan, more occasional Michael MacDonald on background vocals.
They're far better than Steely Dan.
Scurvy bro took the words out of my mouth!! Could not agree more!! Little Feat ROCKS!!!!!!!!!
Hoy, Hoy, Welcome to Feat! One of the best rabbit holes you'll love:)
There's not much left to say, but the older I get, the more I enjoy this kind of music.
Love you both, you went down the "Dan" rabbit hole...get ready for going down the "little Feat" hole, here you go!
Oh! One other note: the album is from 1977, not the 1980s. It regularly makes “best live albums of all time” lists. 👍🏼
Yay! 👍
Calling a band formed in Los Angeles southern. That's a compliment to me. Little Feat stretches musical boundaries.
LOVE Little Feat. A great southern rock band from way down south (Australia). They are one of the most FUN band to have ever existed.
The version of 'Red Streamliner' on the extended album is some of the best musicianship I've ever heard. Simply mind-blowing.
The word is “Funky “. Little Feat cross many genres throughout their catalog bu this one is pure Funk
Unknown, NOT underrated
This is from the original school of rock, New Orleans style. Students of the French Quarter & Allen Toussaint sounds. May be "Cajun Rock? Creole style, like the mash up of cooking styles; Cajun (French) African (Carib/Creole), Native American, Spanish (Mexican). Look at the diversity of the guys in the group. Where the Mississippi meets the Gulf of Mexico, where the Delta Blues got real funky!!! Hats off to Norleans from this boy from California, where southern hospitality is not a cliché.....
down the rabbit hole with the great Lowell George
Same. Frequently, it was coming out of my dorm room windows!
@@neonpark1874 mine too!
Still finding seeds in the fold of my ‘78 copy.
@@pjw1016 Plant some! 🤣
The "fat man" is the singer/songwriter, Lowell George, the dude with the beard, singing about his own experience in some seedy situation....
Little Feat!!! One of the best live albums in my humble opinion. You'd probably like the song "Spanish Moon." Lowell George left us way too early, R.I.P. They hail from Los Angeles.
Second "Spanish Moon" live.
There's a slide guitar here, but I don't hear any country. Funk for sure.
EXACTLY...this live version with the Tower of Power horn section, is the stuff of legend‼️
I highly recommend listening to this whole album. Little Feat is backed up by the Tower of Power horn section on this album. My personal favorite on this album is Mercenary Territory.
End of side two, into the beginning of side three FTW!
They are, I have tickets, and Hot Tuna (acoustic) is opening for them at my show (Los Angeles). I can't wait.
@@neonpark1874 Nice, enjoy the show! I hope to see them in New Jersey in April.
Lowell George - lead guitarist - is one of the most criminally underappreciated guitarist, ever! His slide playing is incomparable!
Try "Rock and Roll Doctor" from their album "Feets Dont Fail Me Now". Masterful slide guitar and pure fun!
Two degrees in be bop, a PHD in swing. He's the master of rhythm, he's a rock and roll king.
Since 1978 in my Top 5 Live Albums.
Under rated, super talented, lots of great material to dig into.
This entire live album is incredible. Unfortunately, most of the people in the band have dies over the years. You will not be able to see them live besides on video. Please react to Dixie Chicken from this live album if features the Tower of Power Horns.
Chuck Leavell is putting Little Feat back together. I don't know who the other musicians are going to be.
Just released an album: May 2024
Unfamiliar with the territory eh? Try 'Mercenary Territory'. And then snack on some 'Tripe Faced Boogie'. After that I think you will be 'Willin', to 'Roll Another One'! Or have a drink at the 'Spanish Moon'!
Back when they first came out, people used to refer to Little Feat as “the best band that you’ve never heard of”.
Unfortunately, I think that statement is still true for a lot of people today.
In my day Little Feat was a great soundtrack for parties as they had alot of sing-a-long choruses in their songs. Dixie Chicken stands out. Very funny story Lex.
Little Feat (and this album in specific) always makes the playlist at all my parties!
Lowell George and the boys.......Emmylou Harris & Nicolette Larson did backup vocals sometimes.
"Juanita... my sweet Chiquita...what are you up to...My Juanitaaaaaa😎🇺🇸
I definetly recommend Day At The Dog Races from their Times Loves A Hero studio album, an incredible prog instrumental that is sure to clean up the nasal passages!
Absolutely a must. Great progressive song
Literally the only tune by them I like. There’s a version on the cd of this album in the bonus tracks.
I'd add 'The Fan' to that list of proggy Little Feat.
One of the best live albums ever made. Masterpiece
Most definitely happy music Nick, great energy Lex! Phew you're taking me back with little feet 👏 great suggestion Andrew, nice one bro 👍
I love the line from "Old Folks Boogie": "And you know that you're over the hill
When your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill."
Congrats you two, one of my all-time favourite bands...they were both the critic's choice & the musician's musicians...there's no return from this Rabid Hole‼️
Their late, legendary leader, Lowell George, was a multi-instrumental, musical genius. As his friend, Bonnie Raitt, emphatically exclaimed, he was hands down, the greatest singer/songwriter/guitarist❗
Great ears 🙉 Lex, it's a Louisiana based gumbo...a fusion of New Orleans second line rhythm, country/soul/blues...rock'n'roll❗Again, you mentioned the unusual lyrics, I believe his apprenticeship with Frank Zappa, may have affected his lyrical sensibilties, work ethic, studio rat tendencies, and approach, calling it, "Cartoon Consciousness".
I never quite established what ‘anything’ was, but from the look on her face I don’t think it was cleaning his apartment."
🙊
Now that’s what I call a great comment!
Thanks IV (Gentle Giant fan? Actually thought of Beatles first but that’s “For No One”). Cheers ✨🥰

Thanks...I'm an old prog rocker/fusion head, but never got into their stuff...Fab 4-Sure❗❗❗❗
These guys are from LA and a lot of them were studio musicians. I hear jazz and rock and maybe a little cajun. Can't really compare them to anyone, closest maybe Steely Dan but with a lot of slide guitar.
Lowell George and Roy Estrada were members of Zappa and the Mothers
One of the best live bands producing one of the best live albums with an assist from the Tower Of Power horns! There's not a bad cut on Columbus, but please check out Spanish Moon from this same album. I don't remember where I read the review, but it said keyboardist Billy Payne is "Rick Wakeman, if he had been born in New Orleans". Couldn't agree more. And Lowell George... man, oh man. Don't get hung up with the "country" label - this band has many styles, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised as you explore their catalog!
What Bob said.
I once read Bill Payne tries be Joe Zawinul .. (in reference to latter day Feat )
If you listen to Robert Palmer’s Sneakin Sally… (his first), Little Feet are backing with The Meters and A Toussaint. A great and underrated band.
And ... Neon Park did the album cover art for many of their albums. 🥰
@@michelemichele3375 Pretty much all of them and they even continued to use his existing artwork after he had died. Love his artwork.
No surprise that Little Feat is on your playlist, with your exquisite taste.
@@cometogether999 Hey CT. I’ve been emailing you. Wondering how you’re doing. Miss you. Let me know. ✨😊
Yeah!!! Little Feat. I saw them live in the 70s, when Lowell was still with us. "All That You Dream" and "Sailin Shoes" are great songs too but, "Tripe Face Boogie" is my absolute favorite 💜
Thank you for finally finding Little Feat. As much as I love listening to Steely Dan, I love Little Feat more. A brilliant live band.
GREAT BAND :)
I'm so glad you got around to Little Feat. I asked you to listen to them awhile back. Thanks.
Underrated band for sure. Great reaction.
I saw Little Feat a few times live in the 1980’s and 1990’s. They were an excellent live band. One of the shows I went to in Baltimore the band stayed after the show and hung out with their fans.
You are very fortunate to have been steered to this fantastic record- Little Feat is awesome (the "Feats Don't Fail Me Now" record is great too)
Hey NicknLex!
If by "left the band", you mean died - I'm with you but it's not like he left to go do something else.
RIP Lowell George.
also Mick Jaggers fav band. saw them in 1973 just before Lowell George passed on. Best concert ever. Best live album ever.
I think you might find "Representing the Mambo" (the title track of the album) even more up your alley. Give it a listen sometime.
That’s a great one. Also Gringo, Red Streamliner, A Day at the Dog Races… all the Bill Payne tunes.
@@1charlesallnut I was going to mention Gringo (from the Hoy Hoy album). A completely different style that is also great.
This entire album is amazing.
In my opinion, one of the greatest live albums ever! Been listening to this since the early 80’s!
Similarly, I wouldn't limit the Allman Brothers to country-rock. They're so much more than that (Blues, soul, jam band, etc.)
Well, Friendo... I just looked at Little Feat's Wikipedia page and it says "Guitarist Jimmy Page stated Little Feat was his favorite American band in a 1975 interview"
Lex, I could be wrong, but I think Wahneta is a Native American name, possibly associated with a Sioux tribe.
Dudes, this is "country" music like "Starship Trooper" is polka. This is heavy funk with lots of New Orleans 'big chief' rhythmic pulse.
(now I'm gong to have Honky tonk women on the brain till I go and hear it)
Love this track. This whole album is amazing.
