And It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year as it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas. While you might be shouting Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Because you are dreaming of a white Christmas or a Blue Christmas I care more about the wine on the table. I'll Be Home For Christmas to Have myself a Merry Little Christmas and I am right now looking for some great wines for the holidays … and for those who wonder - yes, those were 7 Christmas songs references in less than 20 seconds. My intern Leon selected seven holiday wines that should be great for special dinners. I will blind taste, identify and rate them so that you know which wines will bring joy to the world or just joy to your palate this year. Over the holiday season, everything needs to be a bit more special but we also need different wines for different occasions. When things are getting calmer and less stressful I also like to discover new wines - so I am not just going for my old friends from my collection but also for wines that I have not tasted before.
To make sure that you will be able to taste along Leon had a look around on Vivino to find widely available wines and I gave him Carte Blanche to buy whatever he wants to buy … I hope that was not a mistake! The wines are bagged up just like the kind of Christmas Calendar I like.
As usual - this video is not sponsored by Vivino, I am still not really using the app as a matter of fact and I will review these wines completely independently.
So let's start tasting…
Forgot to ask my question of the day: What is your favorite holiday wine?
Whatever local...wine adventurous!
Pinot gris 2018 Matthias Gaul "st. Stephan"
Aged Riesling Auslese + Champagne
Fix Sprudel! Blanc de Blancs von Agrapart (Experience 12 steht heuer an) und/oder De Sousa. Und dann je nach Schneefall und Stimmung Barolo (zB Massolino
Champagne and old Bordeaux!
"If you don't like your relatives, this wine will help you through the evening" Made my day! Nice tasting altogether.
😄
We know you're a Master of Wine. You didn't have to rig this tasting to prove your qualifications.
Kidding obviously, that was really impressive and entertaining.
Thanks!
This is the best wine channel on YT. By far.
Blind tasting! This is why I love this channel. It takes a Master Sommelier to go on a blind tasting to frequently as you go, Konstantin.
Never hesitate to show your skills
It may inspire more people to follow your path
Your videos always feel like a present 🎁.
😊
I think my Christmas wine is usually sparkling, because I live in South America and the end of the year here is HOT. So, sparkling wines usually hit the spot nicely, especially in the evening, when the temperature still hasn't dropped. I had a brief flash of terror when Konstantin suggested sitting in front of the fireplace during Christmas 😅
As for Adventskalendar, I grew up with those, but that's because both of my parents are part-German. My mother had to sew a couple for me and my sister, as they weren't known around here. At some point, though, the custom gained traction all over the country, but I think it's declined a lot in these past few years, to the point that I don't see them in supermarkets anymore. So, in short, Advent Calendars aren't well-known in my country.
Tip of the hat good sir on all the Christmas songs
Love this video!!! It really helps to think deductively as you explain your tasting before revealing. One of the best videos!
Love Barolos and Rioja for the holidays :)
The Bolgheri Tuscans and Bordeaux are so challenging to distinguish- though there’s a hint of “flair” with the Sangiovese blends.
Inspiring selection. Good job Konstantin and Leon.
Really fun and impressive to watch! Been thinking about what wines to open on christmas eve the past 2 months, your video definetily helped!
Champagne and port. Just beer for the christmas dinner because its usually allover the place.
Thank you for such a perfect wine list 🙌🏻
Baloro is the most super tannin wine for me and I'll be with Taittinger
Thank you for the recommendations. Please continue to put out the nuances that make a wine particular to that region. Also continue to provide food recommendations for each wine that you taste. Doing both will definitely help us understand the wine and encourage us to try out the wine and try it out with the foods that you recommend.
And he misses his last free throw... he dosen't lose the game, but his free throw average does drop just a little...:) 95% not bad!!! You realize that all-star material.
Stay thirsty… and get merry.
I am from Puglia and I love Nero di Troia. Drinking the wine in front of the fire with some rich food...."Al Bacio" !
New wine enthusiast here, and I can't stop watching your videos! Incredible content! Keep it coming!
👏👏Well done. Someone is on fire 🔥
Christmas calendars are huge here in Sweden. Great video. Merry Christmas!
Excellent tasting - a lot of well known wines that should be available here in the us (or most other places) and I look forward to trying some this holiday season. Thanks!!
Love your videos - was so sad to see you miss the perfect round! Next time! Merry xmas :)
So glad I found this channel. Thank you Konstantin
Thanks!
Ciao Konstantin and Merry Christmas. Thanks a lot for your videos. they are informative, with easy to understand and entertaining wine terms. To start the Christmas lunch a bubble is basic (I love mountain ones like Trento Doc), then we move on to a wine with Nebbiolo (Barolo but also a Ghemme or a Sfursat) and to close a glass of Moscato d'asti with panettone
Can't believe Christmas is near! now watching this!
Lovely video, thank you.

Great video to watch, even in summer 🙂
Fantastic job…And great descriptions. As for my table….I enjoy different, so we’ll have to see what I can come up with…..
Great video as always! Happy Holidays
Same to you!
Outstanding. Unbelievable blind tasting skills.
I have 3 bottles for Christmas , all to be paired with a lamb . 2015 Chateau D'ampiuis , a 2015 Delas La landonne .Finally to clean the palate we have a Chapoutier Hermitage Monier de la Sizeranne. Cant wait !!!
Glad to hear you'll be drinking Champagne for the holidays. I was going to ask about sparkling wines for Christmas and New Years.
le volte is one of my favourite super tuscans.
I really enjoyed watching your video!!
Keep up the excellent work!
I'm looking forward to another awesome video!
Take care and stay in touch! 🎄🙏🎄
Hey Konstantin! I think you just hit on why I cellar my wine. It is to survive Christmas with the relatives. Our survival strategy, year in year out, is to celebrate Christmas with all the friends first then you are on such an emotional high, you can face the family. But seriously, many new collectors could easily get on board if they know they are collecting for Christmas. Of course, we all know that for some, it will become a chase for the perfect bottle for many future Christmases, but for now you have set an achievable goal and had a lot of fun into the bargain. Cheers!
Barolo 17 it’s sooooo Young !
Awesome video! Keep them coming, super entertaining and interesting!
Will do!
amazing tasting and Bravo! 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you 😋
Nice job Konstantin! Merry Christmas. We also have Christmas Calendars here in the US. Each day has a chocolate or some money. It runs for 25 days. Favorite Holiday wine is Champagne or a nice Sauternes
Love the intro!
I was excited to have guessed 2 based on your descriptions , so yay! You also did great 👍 🙂
Yes! Thank you!
Bravo Konstantin
yes, christmas calendars are big in Denmark.
Now I finally realize why Rudolph's nose is red. He overindulges in great wines before every flight.
Da bekommt man doch gleich Lust, mal mit Konstantin während eines Glases über Wein zu reden!
Le Volte is so good 👌
Love your videos
Love this video. A lot of great new choices for me to try.
What kind of profile would you recommend for a classic Raclette x-mas dinner? Stronger Swiss cheese, baguette and/or potatos, pretty typical German Raclette style. Any direction you could point me towards would be highly appreciated!
Excellent tasting. From your description/tasting notes I picked 4 or 5of them correctly too!
Excellent!
Master of wine most hardest job on planet
That intro hahah great
Advent calendar, of course! Advent, advent. Ein Lichtlein brendt
Exelente wines, I think I like Rioja the most, congratulations !!!
You are hilarious. Really enjoyed this video. I guessed three correctly just based on your descriptions! My favorite wine is Champagne for the holidays!
I'm all for the Huet, Vietti, and R. Lopez de Heredia for a Christmas dinner!!
Le Haut Lieu sec from Huet is a big wine! I was thinking about to buy a Vouvray for Christmas but I will definitely do it ahah
Thanks for this video and the discovery, I wanna try this wine from Ornellaia!
Very Nice video! Surely I’m going to try one or two of these wines. Could you maybe make a video about new years eve champaigns? Iam looking for a Nice champaign this year but dont know wich one.
Another fun wine tasting, Konstantin! Btw I failed to guess my wife’s single bottle tasting last night. Kudos to you!.
Christmas calendars are very much a thing in the United States. Usually they are called advent calendars. Grocery stores sell ones with a chocolate for each day from Dec 1 to Dec 24. They also sell beer and wine calendars for adults. In my family it’s tradition to make one with 25 interlocking paper rings numbered 1-25. We hang it in the kitchen and tear off the numbers until only number 25 is left. I wonder if people in other countries do this?
The Spanish wine is absolutely amazing. I loved it a lot. You did very well!!!!
Thanks!
A good port post dinner...
I will probably drink the best wine from which I have more than one bottle in my cellar, Clerc-Milon 2005.
Hi Konstantin, I love your channel! Thank you for the great content.
Which of the performance glasses are you using in this one?
Thanks. The glass is in the description.
@@KonstantinBaumMasterofWine Ah, yes, thank you!
Thanks for the great video. New to wine collecting and looking for great wines that can be aged. Going to add Barolo to my collection.
You should!
Impressive performance, nice wine selection, but man I always had to stare at that red fluff on the side of your head that remained from your Santa hat ;)
Props.
Thank‘s for your video! Nice collection with the exception of Le Volte. This wine was a disappointment
for me this year.☹️ I had promissed myself a lot more. My holiday wines this year will probably be White
Capgiró from Can Majoral (Grape Giro Ros) and Red Gallina y Focas from 4Kilos (Grape Manto Negro)
Cheers 🍷
Hi,
Blind tastings are my favourite and there's aleays alot to discover.
Sometimes I think there are alot of editing that makes it look less real, as an experience I mean.
Cheers.
Expecting more before the holidays
Great video, all of them red wines, is that because is winter there? Here in the south is summer and during christmas dinner generally we have 30°C, specially in a tropical City like mine, so I think I'll get a fresh white or rose, the bad part is that my wife hasnt liked any of the roses and whites I bought so far.
bravo
Advents/Christmas calendars are a big thing in Denmark too. This year I've got a portwine calendar with 24 different ports 🍷😀
Great fun :)
Epic song references, love it!
I know there's very limited time but can you do a southern hemisphere Christmas version for those of us outside in the sun with our bbq's going "dreaming of a white Christmas"?
Thanks! I should... not sure whether I can do it this year though.
Can hardly blame you for calling the super tuscan as a bordeaux! Very nice video :)
Would love to see a mulled wine recipe!
i love the idea of sitting alone in a chair after dinner, contemplating and just enjoying the moment. so let's see if I can find that Rioja wine where I am. Prost! :)
i would love to see a special about lopez de heredia. the holy grale of la rioja. its impressive how little they changed since 1877.
Great tasting! The turkey gets lost on my Christmas plate among the sausages wrapped in bacon, sage and onion stuffing, bread and bacon stuffing, ham, parmesan parsnips and a rich gravy. For this reason I prefer a red with my Christmas dinner, usually opting for a right-bank Bordeaux. Would you have any other suggestions for this year?
Expensive for the rating, Konstantin.
Excellent video as usual and a nice selection of wines. Quick question. Is there a quality difference in Glühwein? As Germany is getting colder Glühwein hits the spot but it seems you can only get it in Supermarkets and though some taste better than others I was wondering if there is a top tier or it is like Eiswein where they basically are all in the same quality category? Happy Holidays!
There are differences for sure. Some wineries make really good ones
Congrats for the 6-1, my fav wine is Kunstler Riesling because we eat cabbage rolls with minced meat, sarmale namely
Great tasting and pinpoint accuracy! I personally would like to know the scores blind, before the reveal. Makes it more exciting, not that I believe the prices swayed your decision, but it makes for a clearer blind tasting. Cheers!
We definitely do Advent calendars in Canada, and some of our wineries do wine Advent calendars!
Favourite holiday wines, Mosel Riesling auslese, haute cote de units and Chablis premier cru
*Haute cote de Nuits
I wish to one day be able to tell where a wine Is from just by the taste, let alone everything else you can tell from just a taste!! Props man 💪🏽
Thanks!
Tolle Videos, es macht absolut Spaß zuzugucken! Viel Erfolg weiterhin. Zu Weihnachten gönnen wir uns meist einen Amarone (diesmal Quintarelli :D) zum Steak und zum Dessert eine Mosel TBA.
Nice!
I had red CDP with some prime rib last year- my whole family loved it 😇 Even though I could see something more tannic would work better🎉
Love the video! Where did you buy those socks for blind tasting? 😁
Best master on planet
Thanks Konstantin! Have you done a video on (your recommended) “best value” wines? Your comments regarding best price:quality ratio on this video intrigue.
I should...
Christmas calendars are definitely a thing in Sweden!
No sweet wines for Christmas?! :-)
very good job . Tuscany and Bordeaux are very similar but you can identify it on the colour acutally
I thought you would have a bunch of wines filled with oranges, cloves and marzipan. Pleasantly surprised!
We're all kinds of glassware mamufacturer .Of premium quality and reasonable price.
I had a bottle of 2019 Haut Lieu the other week and absolutely loved it but I noticed some slight oxidative notes that I´ve never found on any other wines from Huet. Is that typical for this wine or was there an issue with that bottle?
There are christmas calenders in england and scotland. They have 25 Türchen
