    The Attack button sets all your units to aggressive stance, which means the will move towards the closest enemy. The Defend button can be very handy if you have ranged supremacy, or if you’re fighting at sea and don’t want your units with Leap to jump into the water and drown :)

      The other advantage of starting out on defend, especially if you deploy right at the far edge of your map is that it will force the enemy to come towards you. Since units aren't uniformly fast it means they are going to spread out more and allow more of your units to get hits in while their units attacks are going to be arriving over a longer period of time.

    Im not a decay main. But I would argue decay is a faction with multiple mechanics that are unexplained thus making them not new player friendly. But once these "hidden mechanics" are discovered you realize the meta. Essentially there are things that are "assumed" the player knows. But once you KNOW you make shit happen.
    In regards to the perks when you level up your base. Really it depends on your heroes and build. Power/Knowledge for mage mains, Attack/Defense for normal mix and the low pop expert units for zerg armies. market for resource specific factions like pyre because they can usually sell every thing but sulfer. Same with earthen they mainly need ore and gold. Exotic item shop for hero focused army but stat buffs for army focus is another example.
    slow units is kinda a mixed bag. Its great if you dont want your infantry to outwalk your archers. Titan has great stats but gives you slow. the helm alone gives 5 knowledge. so its great for defence/mage army.
    In regards to maintaining decay army size. They DO NOT have infirmary and it really shows after a while. its nice you stated that in the video people dont know that. You eventually just run out of units if your not careful. you have to really take advantage of the curse of undeath, soul transmitter, throne of dead and necromancy to make up for the lack of infirmary/hospital . The more skull icons you see the better. I would argue curse of undeath is the MOST important of the 4 ways decay gets extra units. soultransmitter is just....weird. It doesnt seem like it does as many units it says it does but you still need it. I think the number is based off weekly calculations but even then its low. Throne does upgrade them to the curse of undeath tier units but it seems like its at a cost but you still need it as increasing power level effects AI behavior and auto resolves. Necromancy is really hard unless you have a hero who doesnt use mana or a hero with Maxxed out regen. with withermage you need to put spells on either the enemy or your damage dealers. when curse of undeath is added to your units whoever has the last hit has the chance of spreading it. So think archers or other DPS. Extinctor is sort of a mixed bag. You have to get him to charge in and hit units. But you have to do it in a way that makes it so he isnt focused on. So have in flank in from the side with the charge spell while the front line is fighting. remember that curse of undeath only procs on kill.
    If I were to give constructive criticism I would just say you dont get curse of undeath out enough. And you waited a little too long to get soul transmitter/throne. In general I make sure I get army production buildings up as soon as possible as even though you arent buying them they are pooling up. But if you play your cards right you can have a constant growing army. Even in early game you can break even with your losses. Another thing is dont auto resolve with decay. They need the bodies and auto resolve doesnt take curse of undeath into account, only necromancy skill.
    With the hero you were using I would have used archers with the liches and gave them some sort of spell to cast curse of undeath on them. This will maintain the front line. If the frontline is not maintained the back line is usually screwed unless the units have certain passives like versatile. If the back line is put into melee they are screwed by the archer passive. There is a mechanic in which the archer is stuck in between being to close for ranged but too far for melee so they do nothing but back up to get into melee. But this makes it so they get chased to death. Its a reasonable nerf to ranged units though so im not complaining.
    Allegedly they are gonna nerf bodyguard skill soon. So use it and abuse it while you can.
    also hero hour has simple drag controls. Its a click drag system with unit blobs. Think of the placement mechanic but you drag them into their attack line. The game doesnt really tell you that so dont feel bad. I didnt know until I saw another channel do it. Those bottom buttons just effect behavior they arent direct commands. Its just hold the line defense and charge offence. You need to click drag to make them do flanks. I guess this must be from modern IO/tablet games but someone from a normal rts background wouldnt have known these things.

      Thanks a lot for your really helpful comment! It goes in sync with a lot of my thoughts and gave me a lot of room for improvement for the next episode.
      Also thanks a ton for giving me the last missing pointers about unit control, that really helped out a ton.
      Appreciate this constructive criticism a lot, thanks for all the time you put in there!

    I am really looking forward to some good tips, because i aswell struggle with the Decay fraction.

      I got brutalized on my first Decay run. Made a few beginner mistakes but I could quickly tell my army was behind once I ran into the opponent. Good points on their notable weaknesses in this vid. The Decay units also seem to have a problem with damage output compared to other factions. After losing that Decay run, I tried Horde for the first time. Noticeable difference!

      @@NefariousKoel but playing super safe to avoid losses also doesnt seem to work well since my economy wont work then. Also the "bonethrone" building and the melting of my Units seems to weaken them. Its strange.

    nice to see they revamped necromancy. I haven't played them in a while, instead focusing on pillar.
    I'll have to make some decay run to see what works best for them now.

    It's fun watching you get better and better at this. I did have a small headsmack moment when you chose to wait for the champion statue to recruit Bonehead but that was just because I knew he has bodyguard available as a first tier unlock. Soul Eater seems like a very powerful primary hero with lichmaster, archery, and champion. Reminds me a lot of Liara and her trolls from the Horde faction. You can even pickup a single rank of Oligarchy if you really want to buff their stats but that's probably a bad idea. His only real downside is the lack of mana regen which limits his sustain as a caster.
    Bonehead is a fantastic secondary. Legion, Skeleton Mastery, Bodyguard and Armour let him do some serious work with cheap chaffy troops that play a kind of secondary role in Soul Eater's lich army.
    I've had a lot of fun running Fearcap as my primary hero as Decay.
    Also, just a reminder that you can move units without a hero. They are quite a bit slower than if they are getting ferried around by a hero, but especially in the early game it lets you get re-enforcements moving really quick.

      Haha, you know those Hero Skill Trees quite well!
      Thanks for those pointers, helpful as ever! ;)
      Your pointer on the "units moving without hero" reminded me that I could first move the troops, then pick them up via hero and thus cheese them on even longer hauls. I think you already mentioned (or somebody else did) but I begin to grasp the finer concepts. I wonder if it will get nerfed away though, cause tricks like these didn't work in HoMM

    Well of Power is very good buff for necromancers.

    I've also been getting the issue of the same magic item repeatedly spawning in a game. For me, it wasn't the ice staff but a specific armor piece.

    The Midas Touch unit ability is so OP. A chance to insta-kill with each hit? After seeing it used against me in sizable numbers, it was insanity.

      @@Ic0nGaming - Oh, I definitely agree with your decision. For those who can send a steady stream of them, however, it's overpowering. Watching some of my most powerful units get one-shotted by a group of them just left me agape.

    It feels like the undead are the faction that cares least about Bodyguards since they can cheese their armies by KEEPING units that they summon in battle.
    When you can GAIN real units for every fight you do, why bother with grinding the enemy down with "virtual" troops on empty heroes?

    • @Ic0nGaming
      @Ic0nGaming  2 года назад

      I still wish there'd be some form of mana buff for the entire faction. Necromancy needs so much mana, it makes being a mage at the same time nearly impossible.

    • @Prophes0r
      @Prophes0r 2 года назад

      @@Ic0nGaming Ahh but that's the trick.
      You use curse in the battle to gain units.
      Then, after the battle you choose to GAIN mana from necromancy.
      The necromancy part is "balanced" around the idea that you have to choose between free units or mana. But...you can already get free units. So it effectively just becomes a massive mana regen buff after every battle.

    • @Ic0nGaming
      @Ic0nGaming  2 года назад

      @@Prophes0r You don't gain the mana. You merely cut down the costs of the next necromancy use. If you'd gain that mana, it'd be awesome.

    • @Prophes0r
      @Prophes0r 2 года назад

      @@Ic0nGaming maybe it got changed?
      I haven't played in a while.
      I remember having to "choose" between gaining like...8 units. Or getting back 25+ mana.
      Honestly, the snowballing from curse was WAY too powerful. being able to consistently win "impossible" level fights and just steamrolling the whole map with a death stack made the game WAY too easy.

    decay was the first faction i started playing with(busted my ass to learn its mechanics) even though, i was getting crushed so i thought that the game is supposed to be that hard but when i switched to pillar, (without even knowing the skills and such) i instantly started destroying the AI.
    i just think that the decay troops are hella weak compared to other factions even the hightier ones.
    plus the buildings are kinda weird and useless like the soul beacon and the merging.
    so in my humble opinion, i think the decay faction needs some buffs/rework.

    • @Ic0nGaming
      @Ic0nGaming  2 года назад

      Yeah I can relate. I feel like every other faction I played so far felt not even half as hard as playing Decay.
