Cut-Rate Commander - Episode 91 - Featuring Aclazotz, Deepest Betrayal from The Lost Caverns of Ixalan #mtg #edh #commander #mtgixalan #mtglci
Hey Folks! Submitted for your approval, we have our 4th Cut-Rate Commander build for The Lost Caverns of Ixalan - featuring the discard focused bat deity - Aclazotz, Deepest Betrayal.
In this build, we'll be aiming to shred our opponents hands down to 0 as quickly as possible to a) deny them resources to use against us and b) to enable Aclazotz ability to draw us up to 3 cards per rotation on his own once our opponents are hellbent. As such, we'll of source be running plenty of AOE discard sources so we can attack the entries tables hands simultaneously, passive sources of forced discards to pick apart their hands even faster, and plenty of payoffs to generate us value while damage our opponents as they lose their cards - allow Aclazotz and his horde of bats to consume the remainder of our opponents life totals as easily as they did their hands.
Let me know if the comments below if you agree with my choices and/or what you would add to the deck instead. Also, let me know know who you would like to see next by voting on in the comments on the three choices of commander listed at the end of the video.

Love the commander context you add to the videos, super cool to get some of the lore
Im so excited to play with this deck! Love the content! ❤
Sheoldred // The True Scripture is a great inclusion to this deck.
I'm totally going to use this list to help my Tinybones deck. While i was happy to pull Aclazotz from a booster, Tinybones is such a nice commander to combo with discard. Though i could use both as a commander to change the power level. Great deck as always Grazzet! A pleasure to see your ideas!
Always a fun part of Saturday mornings 🎉
g'day!
thanks! this is an awesome build. :)
Morn'in and happy to hear you enjoyed it!
I really like the style of this video. Will be coming back for more!
I played my new Aclazots deck last night and the main thing I felt disappointed by is the fact that Temple of the Dead has to tap itself when it transforms back into Aclazots. I originally thought that I would be able to attack with Aclazots on the turn I transform Temple of the Dead since it won't have summoning sickness after transforming but transforming tapped really takes the wind out of the sails.
It might be a good idea to look into cards such as Thousand Year Elixir, Umbral Mantel and Puppet Strings just to be able to attack with Aclazots on the same turn he transforms.
You used my comment for the thumbnail! 😂😮
Yeah, it was too good to pass up!
@GrazzetMTG would bone miser and kirrik son of yawgmoth be an ok card to put in the deck?
This is the card that got me into mtg
I think Mindslicer might be particularly nasty in this deck, provided you can get it out earlier before your opponent's hands have been whittled away already. You can use it as an attack deterrent, or you can even blow it up with your own spot removal to clear out everyone's hands, then swing out with Aclazotz to draw three.
I play discard for a few years, cards like megrim are a trap, there are some cards that are on the Budget that should be on this build sadist hypnotics can rip everyone hands sometimes especially if you have a wast not on the field , and another power house is words of waste that combo with geth's grimoare (already on the list )
That's a new look for your design pool - don't think you've done any discard in a build yet. Tempted to give it a run
If you're running Scavenger Grounds I suggest running Desert of the Glorified. It's a small thing but potentially getting two uses out of the Grounds could be mighty handy.
Bloodchief’s ascension also works well here. While needing the extra step of life-loss to get online, a lot of discard payoffs in the list already cause life loss, and Ascension would synergize with discard spells as well as general removal and punish opponents for playing instants or sorceries.
Chains of Mephistopheles ($1060) is a discard enabler as punishing as it is expensive - very on both accounts. The bat god will very much appreciate this tribute however
Proxy it lol
Holy Messed Up Notifications, Batgod! That sure is a sweet EDH Deck Tech as always!
And next up is... Murder! Without anyone spending black mana!
Day 281 of waiting for the face reveal... keeping track of the days sure is a pain, huh. I don't mind though. That said... thoughts on Murder at Karlov Manor? Cause IMO it really feels like New Capenna 2 - the Ravnica Version.
Love your videos, is there a deck build you can make or recommend for a Shelob, Child of Ungoliant EDH deck that can go toe to toe with some strong decks. Loved your Mothman build and I wanna build Shelob next. Thank you!!
I was really hoping that Chains of Mephistopheles was going to be in the potential upgrade recommendations! 🙃
Finally an excuse to quote Batman lines in the commander pod.
Surprised you don't include Larceny. It makes the Bat tokens Aclazotz creates very nasty since they can crack in for even more discard to ensure our opponents cannot have any hands, period.
Fair point, but personally I find Larceny to be a card that costs too much and does too little (in this build anyway). For 5 mana, we're paying for a discard source that already needs an established baordstate in order to be effective - which is bad if drawn early, and situational if draw later depending on what our board looks like when we draw into it.
That said, if we draw into it AND have the board to take advantage of it, it can ensure our opponents won't really have a hand to play from for the remainder of the game. So while I personally don't like it (and opted for cheaper, more reliable sources of discard in this build) I can see the argument for slotting it in, particularly if we know the table we'll be playing against can reload their hands very easily.
@@GrazzetMTGthat's a good point. Actually that argument makes me reconsider cards like Reconnaissance Mission since those too are rather dependent on a developed board states to generate value, as opposed to cards like say Beast Whisperer, that generate value as you develop your board state.
@@GrazzetMTG Anyone else read this in his voice and cadence 😂
I'm working on building a few of your decks to test. I'm curious how and how much you playtest before you end up with a final build.
I love your videos, will it be possible for you to make one but from elesh norn mother of machine mono white commander??
Would also love one for this!
Quick question: How often did you discard cards because there is a creature version of waste not called Bone Miser which benefits when you discard a card.
Same mana as commander and too expensive = pass
This is an old one but I have a Edgar markov precon and would like to know what cards you would upgrade with Edgar
Same!
Would love to see zoyowa build from you
How do you convince your opponents to let you play it?
Tergrid is secretly the true hero of this deck
True commander buuuut in the deck so it's not to salty
I voted for this deck tech and now i gotta make it. Time to draw some hate.
Them's the breaks! Plus, once you build this deck - you'll be the only one drawing anyway (or at least, the one one that gets to keep what they draw).
Why not add The Rack?
First?
Looks like. Thanks for dropping by so early!
