Please let me know in the comments below what you think of the build, if you think there are any other cards that I should have considered, and what commanders you want to see from Phyrexia: All Will Be One in future polls!
Love the build. Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa amd Saryth, the Vipers Fang are able to grant evasion to the mites while Saryth also adds protection for Vishgraz.
Love the build and I'm slowly building it over time I've managed to find a few of the more expensive upgrades like Elesh Norn, MoM but I have some cards lined up which I wanted to put in the deck which I would like your point of view on whether or not they would fit in the deck? Vorinclex, monstrous raider Odric, Lunarxh Marshal Mite overseer Skrelv, Defector Mite Phyrexian Vindicator Skrelv's Hive
For the last year or more your videos have become like Saturday morning cartoons for me when I was a kid, always look forward to them. Thanks for doing what you do, your builds are always fun and make up most of my collection!
That is a high honor indeed (you made me all nostalgic for the Fox Kids and Kids WB)! Glad you enjoy the content and hearing that makes makes it worth making!
I’d just like to say that I just found your channel yesterday and this is the commander I wanted to turn into my infect deck for my heel turn at my LGS. My build is more focused on small creatures with toxic and as many spells that have proliferate stapled on them. It plays very midrangey and I wanted it to be faster so I saw this build and got really excited. The cards have been purchased and this will be my first Flicker deck but not my first Abzan deck (hello Myrkul!) Thanks for the video and build, I’m excited to try it out.
Coming back after playtesting this around on moxfield against other decks I've been considering. 3 of your decks made it to the top 4 (Titania/Vish/Ramses - although I swapped Titania to Force of Nature as the commander seemed more consistent) They all run really well and it's awesome! I'm not the best at deck building (mostly precons+ upgrades) so these are great ways to get new decks that aren't just what WOTC puts out. I may be forgetting if there is a section but I don't see it in the show notes but possibly an upgrade(s)/cards to consider if you want to take the deck a little further would be awesome! For sure gonna build Titania and Vish to add to the collection
Glad you like it! I'm not seeing a lot of other folks take Vishgraaz in a flicker direction, so its good to know that I'm not crazy for doing so myself!
In my build I have added cards that also synergize with the proliferation. So I use mana rocks like Everflowing Chalice, Replicating Ring, and Astral Cornucopia that I can drop at 2 or 3 CMC, but eventually pump to produce a lot of mana (plus Glistening Sphere). I also like Black Market and Beastmaster Ascension for similar reasons. Other ideas are Gift of Immortality, Aura Shards (so your creature blink adds repeatable removal), Skullclamp to translate the 1/1s into cards, and Throne of Geth (to translate the 1/1 tokens into proliferation). I also have a few token doublers, but I am not sure they are worth the slots. One more - I would replace Cultivate with Expand the Sphere that can just proliferate late in the game.
Glad you like them! I personally am not a huge fan of them myself (since I like folks to make their own choices as far as what they like and don't like in the deck to swap) but enough people were asking for it and I suppose it does help those folks who want to get my input on what switches I would make.
Great build! I like how all your list encourage a fun play style and you give nice ideas how to upgrade if desired. Mostly though all your lists really look like having a good time and staying casual, keep it up!
This is an amazing video. I was looking for a unique way to get back into my first control deck of Abzan for commander and it hits the spot perfectly. The only things I'd add over the upgrades are Aura shards (absoutely disgusting value on enchantment/artefact removal turning each flicker into *four* disenchants), Yawgmoth thran physician, cathar's crusade and beastmaster's ascension. Yes, those combined probably cost 75% of the deck but they make both the ETB, token beatdown and poison proliferate theme so much better imo.
Damn. This deck is so toxic it got canceled for being an abusive partner. Bad jokes sneakily related to the recent Chris LeBlanc drama aside, amazing upgrade as always! Maybe we can name the build Schrödinger's Vishgraz, what with all the flickering in and out of existence he is doing along with his comrades? Also hey, we got some damn good lore right before the Creature section! Schweet! As for the vote, I am gonna choose the Myr Tribal build, simply because the art and concept are downright heartwarming. Reminds me of Wall-E, great movie. (Also, the words "Affinity for Artifacts" might be giving me a bit of PTSD.) As a side note, I think there was a strange little pause for about a second after Emiel, The Blessed. Not sure if it's your software glitching, you stopping for a breath, or me tripping, but you might wanna check it just in case. Day 563 of waiting for the face reveal. Thoughts on the idea of a player needing 20 poison counters to die in Commander? Cause it is a pretty common idea, even if I don't think it's a good one.
Glad you enjoyed the build as usual and sorry for the late response (been really busy on my end and I'm working my way through the backlog of comments) Looks like Urtet didn't quite make it this time around, so you may have to brace yourself for the Affinity for Artifacts Mirrodin Flashbacks. Unsure about the audio issue, but thanks for bringing it to my attention. Regarding 20 poison counters - I honestly never thought about it. 20 seems a bit high, since most infect creatures are usually small and struggle already to do anything in the midgame onwards. Often, I feel that the problem is that an infect deck will knock 1 player out in 2 turns, then get wiped and never recover while the other 2 decks fight out - which sucks for the player that go eliminated. Will bumping poison counters to 20 fix that? Honestly I'm not sure.
I like the flicker theme. I personally chose to play it pretty straight forward with the new toxic creatures and less infect creatures from the past. My deck is very creature based and typical green ramp who tries to be very fast due to mana advantage. maybe my deck is more boring but comes with the big creatures at the end instead of flickering proliferate creatures.
Agreed - being able to flicker your entire board each turn is pretty solid and I'm surprised more people don't run it. Now, to be be fair, we do have to attack in with it, but its pretty sturdy and, even it it dies, the mass blink should hopefully generate us enough value to make up of its loss.
Solid build. Kaya, Geist Hunter would also be good for it - lets you double the amount of mites you're creating in the buildup phase, and then when you're ready to attack gives all those 1/1s with toxic deathtouch to make it more painful to block them, potentially clearing the board only for you to refill it by flickering. Comboing Kaya with Mite Overseer to give the mites first strike makes the trick all the more painful.
Good suggestion! Kaya, Geist Hunter certainly made the short list but not the final build since we have so many creatures that can't block that keeping walkers alive is difficult (with The Eternal Wanderer being an exception since only one creature can attack her per turn and it has to get past Vishgraz to do so). But she does get us a lot of extra mileage out of our flickering for a turn and makes our mites much more dangerous, so I can certainly see her being added to the build!
This looks fun as hell! Some of these cards i dont have but the idea of this deck is awesome:) personally i would run vishgraz voltron with doublestrike and trample and tyvar's stand effects- is that too obvious tho? Flicker will be stymied by elesh norn, myrel and etb tapped stax pieces. As a note i would think its cool to play vishgraz with a bunch of disenchant cards and liquimetal effects, so much removal that menace will be paramount
Some stuff I’m running that I got ideas from other videos are Gift of Immortality, kaya’s ghost form, behind the scenes, champion of lamb holt, and possibly 1 or two of the lands you can pay mana into to make a creature unblockable. And because I was able to trade for them, I’m definitely throwing in both elesh norn cards 🎉🎉🎉
At least Doubling Season sets up it's own joke for dramatically raising the base price of a deck! I opened a Graaz so I'm looking forward for that deck 😎
Oh hey look another Deck that got me to start building a Deck at 1 am. Really gota stop doing this. Honestly really cool Idea to take it into a Flicker direction, im not the biggest fan of Poison Counters but this is an interesting Variant. I kinda messed around with it as well just now, using kenrith as my Commander as he: 1) gives me access to all 5 colors 2) has a one Mana Haste ability which is really neat Kinda went all in on Creatures that generate a lot of Tokens on ETB like Hornet Queen and Beetleback Chief, with some Boost Cards like Prava and Glory of Warfare, as well as some flicker goodstuff with Ravenous Chupacabra, Reclamation Sage and Eternal Witness (To be honest I kinda just took most of the flicker goodstuff from your Deck that didn't proliferate) Also went with gates for the Manabase since you have District Guide which can search them on ETB as well as a solid amount of Mana fixing. I then threw in some Creature Searching like Fauna Shaman and Rocco to search for anything you might be missing in terms of Creatures. Awesome Video and thanks for consistently giving me new Ideas to mess around with
Glad you enjoyed it! Butting him in the 99 of a Kenrith token themed build is fair, since he just does so much for almost any kind of deck, so I'm sure it will turn out great!
Been waiting for you to do this one, is this your first Azban deck? Do you think Vishgraz deck is more powerful than Ixhel? I really like this list, seems very fun to play Love how all the exile cards work to benefit the gameplan as well as protecting your commander Thanks for all you do, as always another great video Please never stop
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Flicker builds are always a blact to play and I'm happy I was able to tackle one on the channel! This is technically my 2nd Abdzan deck after the Ixhel Precon upgrade, but it is the 1st Abzan build I covered built from scratch. I would say that Vishgraaz is more mechanically powerful that Ixhel (his playstyle is more straight forward and he had more tools at his disposal to enable it). And I'll keep going for as long as I can so long as folks like you keep watching and supporting the channel!
The one thing I would add is if you have the money or got lucky, mondrak glory dominus is amazing. I actually put him into the rebel pre-con. It’s absolutely disgusting.
What would you think of Nim’s Deathmantle for this deck? It’s a bit expensive, but you can swing in with Vishgraz all you want and get more mites if they kill it. A bit mana intensive.
Oh yeah - Nim Deathmantle is an other great "on death" flicker style effect to get Vishgraz back into play for us - with the added benefit of making him bigger and "evasive" (though our mileage on that may vary since its Intimidate on a 3 color commander). The only downside with that 4 mana is a bit steep for us to pay to do this, but since we're mostly playing at instant speed anyway, I can see this still working very nicely. Great suggestion!
Great build! Im going for this next actually (yes even with the LOTR hype 😂). Couple of changes I would make would be to include ixhel, windborn muse, norns decree and ghostly prison.. my playgroup plays a lot of flying and poison counters ahem are always perceived as high threat regardless. Any advice would be welcome!
Taking this in a more Pillowfort direction is certainly an option, which is what I did for the precon upgrade for Corrupting Influence (which Vishgraz was the alternate commander for) which can be found here - ruclips.net/video/FYSzm-euBdI/видео.html - if your looking for some idea's for a more Pillowfort style build. Hope that helps!
Grazzet, I love your deck techs. If I don't copy the deck you make then I at least build my own version. For instance, I did not even know this Commander existed because I've been so busy at work lately. I simply can't keep up with all the new releases. Thanks for all your content! P.S. are you using tcgplayer prices or Card Kingdom? I try to use CK prices because the shipping costs of tcgplayer come out to about the same as just buying it from one source like CK. Although some cards get crazy premium prices from CK that I am forced to buy from my LGS or TCG.
Glad you're enjoying the content and trust me, you're not the only one that can't keep up with all these new releases (WotC releases new cards faster than any content creator can make video's for)! I use TCG Player Market Place prices, not including tax or shipping - which is not 100% accurate to be fair but is the fairest way I found to price these out because, just like you said, retailers sometimes charge a premium for cards or take a while for their prices to stabilize - which tends to happen much faster on TCG player.
Hey, I have two questions: The second effect of Vishgraz, which gets me +1/+1 tokens for each poison counter my opponents have, is that effect only when he enters the battlefield? Or is this a permanent effect and if my opponent gets another poison counter in the next round, Vishgraz also gains another +1/+1 token? The second question is: Is a player safe from poison counters if they have a card that gives hexproof to that creature and player?
I was able to keep the Graaz build under $65 and, honestly, it works pretty well (though as usual, I included some upgrade options to make it run even better if we have the cash).
A splashy new direction with your build styles - think this is your first blinky deck? Surprised you did not consider Venerated Rotpriest given all the ways you will be targeting your creatures with spells.
Glad you enjoyed it! This is indeed the first blink deck I covered on the channel and Venerated Rotpriest did make the short list but its base price was just too much and we just had too many other upgrades to cover in the main video. Still, it would make a superb addition to spread our poison around since we have so many targeting spells in this build that hit our own creatures!
