We had a two day red dot training course over the last couple days. In the decision process, many people highly suggested the closed emitters because of the possibility of the open emitters being obstructed by rain and/or dirt. We had a good, steady rain yesterday and it was about 45-50 degrees. No one with the open emitters had any problems, and every......single.....closed emitter optic was nearly completely obscured with condensation inside the optic (fog and water spots inside the lenses). We thought maybe it was a bad run of Acros, but they came from different stores and the Holosuns had the same problem. It was definitely eye opening to see that not only would it take quite a bit of junk to block an open emitter, but the closed emitters didn't perform in mildly tough conditions.

Thanks for this one. I keep debating changing my dots to closed emitters. But I think based on this I'll just continue to train with what I've got.

I've been running the EPS on my 43XC slide since November. It is an absolute beast! The clarity of the glass is remarkable. Having the ability to wipe the lens clean without the need to use Q-tips to address the inside is greatly appreciated. Additionally, I have an EPS mounted on my SI-47 slide. Both are the green 2 moa versions. Holosun has done a phenomenal job with the quality of these optics. Highly recommended.

Finally someone tells the truth. This is why the industry makes millions. Selling things we really don't need.

Yea maybe make a easier way to clean the lens because that's my only problem with my 507k I can't get my finger in to clean the lens I'm using a Amazon earbuds cleaner right now

This is just the info I was looking for thank you! Your precise explanation of experience and details immediately gained my trust. You've saved me a lot of money trying to solve a problem I only assumed would actually be a major problem. Very happy to regain trust and appreciation for my tactical defense weapon with 510c open emitter sight! Although I imagine there probably is a mudd/messy enough scenario where it might be more intuitive to clean a closed emitter setup, it sounds to me like my open emitter is perfect for 99.99 percent of what I might encounter and I probably just need to familiarize myself more with it so I can quickly clean the emitter in an emergency situation if needed.

When an open emitter gets dirt, snow or mud obstructing the dot, after shooting one round you’ll likely be fine. When a closed emitter gets moisture intrusion, it’s a brick forever and you need to send it back or buy a new one.
I have both open and closed. I’ve never had an issue with either. I actually feel safer with the open though based on tons of stories of failures whereas nobody actually has issues with open that I know of.

I had an Holosun 510 (open emitter) on a rifle become unusable at a class due to snow (it was also nighttime out, if that matters). It was fine the next day after it dried off. Haven’t had any issues with my Holosun 507k on my pistol, used at the same class.

I can't believe you slaved the dot to the irons. That's gonna make a lot of people who don't understand how things work lose their mind. Lol. That's how i do all of my initial installs of dots and it's good enough to be on paper and can fine tune from there.
Only had 1 instance where an open emitter messed with me. Got water in it from a range barrel, and when i presented, the dot wasn't there. Immediately moved to the irons, pressed the shot, and the recoil shed the water from the dot and back in business.

Iron sighs have zero problems with rain, snow, and mud.

The only cost is loss of precision at the level that dots provide.

Very stupid argument. Open, closed? Everyone thinks they're a Navy seal going to the worst of conditions. We're just average, law-abiding citizens carrying a gun.
If you want a stupid Mailbox sized red dot thingy on the top of your "Concealed weapon" Then put one on. If you want a more practical sized red dot, then put that on.
Irons are better than both in my opinion.

Yet Navy Seals and Special Ops guys when not deployed in civilian life carry Optics some closed. So they are stupid carrying like that back at home? The fact of the matter is anything and everything COULD happen. You just may get caught out in adverse conditions, in a mass shooting or fight fight situation as a civilian. Carry whatever gives you peace of mind and what you feel gives you an edge. Period.
As far as Irons Vs Red Dot... it's proven at this point target acquisition and firing is quicker with a Red Dot. However... at defensive distances you are point shooting anyway. Which is faster. You can also point shoot with a Red Dot... so you lose nothing and just gain with them. To each their own no right or wrong with whatever you are comfy with.
