FYI: If you have Astigmatism the eotech reticle will be kinda blurry without your glasses but the holosun will be perfectly clear without glasses. I own both
Ditto. I tried the EOtech in the store and it was fuzzy. All other red dots had mini starbursts. Haven't tried the Holosun, but purchased it online and will see.
I third this. Also own both an Eotech & Holosun. Because of my eyes, the 1 Eotech quietly rests in its box and the 8 Holosuns are on the rifles. The reticle and red dot are clear AF.
Holographic sights tends to look fuzzy if you're focused on them. You're supposed to look through them, not at them. If you stay target-focused, the reticle will appear crisp.
Definitely some mind fuckery with a holographic lol it’s crazy how crisp it can look when focusing on target compared to the fuzziness of focusing on the reticle
Yep, back before my eyes went to heck, I could use one of the dots that make up the dot to get pretty darn good results. I think there were three dots, they just look like one now, 10-15 years later.
I have the Holosun HS510C and I've been extremely happy with my purchase, I was able to find it on sale and couldn't pass it up. I was able to pickup a couple of the risers when they were in stock at Primary Arms and I highly recommend it if you like to have a higher ride height. I run fixed irons on my ARs and much rather have the higher 1/3 cowitness. For the $ I don't think you could go wrong with the Holosun, no it isn't battle tested like the Eotech, but for my uses I am highly satisfied with my choice. Thank you for the great video as always!
Hahhah holosun is so shit . That entire optic can go down from a drop of water on the projector . And the paralax up close is dreadful . U holosun fans are sick . This optic is 10x worst than the eotech in just about every category
Its battle tested now.. I have seen them on AR's & Bren 2's with and without magnifiers being used by Ukraine soldiers.. They do have a titanium shield, but I can also see the weak areas.. I have dropped my from out of the back seat of my lifted F150 and it landed right on the optic from almost a 5ft drop onto asphalt.. No issues whatsoever..Didn't even dent or misalign the titanium shroud.. The gap is still even between the shroud and optic glass..
I have both a red and green Holosun HS510C and green HE515 Holosun. I got a good deal on an EOTech EXPS3 so I mounted that to my 14.5 pinned build. With my astigmatism the Holosuns are clearer to me, even with the target focus I’ve read some commenters say is needed with the EOTech. I got the EOTech for its bombproof history and for possible barter ability in SHTF. I think I’d keep my Holosuns to use because of the solar function, as batteries will eventually become hard to find (I am getting 123A rechargeables and a solar panel chargeable portable power station). I’m hoping to not need any of these. They way the world is headed you never can be too prepared.
I find the solar option to be more gimmick than practical due to it only functioning in auto brightness mode, which adjusts to the environment you're in as opposed to the target. The reticle can wash out.
Astigmatisms make eotech useless for my family. The holosun s are crystal clear though. I'd go with a 512 before they get discontinued or the aems which seems to be the replacement.
I love quality in budget. I want the best, but I am realistic. I have no plans to be the next guy in a nightvision raid in some sandbox in the middle east, and I'm sure all the nightvision I'll need in the near future will be measured in lumens and candela.
This is a really great walk through of the pros and cons of both optics. And, very non biased. It’s very hard to get opinions that aren’t trying promote one over the other. Thank you!
I got the Holosun for a lot of different reasons like battery life, clarity, shake wake, multiple recticles, solar power, and it's still very durable... The EOTech is just more specific for things like law enforcement, military, or someone that needs a more rugged optic..
EOTech is on an entirely different level than their competition. The biggest factor that separates it is its minimal parallax shift at 100 yards. This is where the holographic sight comes into play over a traditional LED optic.
I have a few EOTECH EXP Holographic sights and I have both generations of the vortex Huey Holographic sight and the Vortex is just as amazing especially paired up with there 3x magnifier!! Garand Thumb did a review and called the Huey the EOTECH killer ruclips.net/video/tnYHlccNeTE/видео.html
Honestly, Holosun is definitely giving them a run for their money. I use to own an Eotech 512 and at the time there was not any good alternatives to a holographic sight. Yes there was aimpoint, but the reticle is what I liked on the Eotech which aimpoint didn't offer. But now that I see this Holosun, I am blown away. I think it is a very good alternative and definitely competes with the Eotech and even beats it in certain categories. The price and battery life alone puts it at a very good spot compared to any Eotech.
Well, now that there is Holosuns being used in Ukraine I think this comment aged like milk. I'm a trijicon fanboy so I can't speak too much on red dots as the MRO is ass.
@@Fin.mint. Holosuns being used in Ukraine doesn't change that the comment is still 1000% true. Any other red dot has parallax. That means if you aren't perfectly lined up that dot is in the wrong place and will miss long range unless you account for the distortion. Ukrainians are taking what they can get holosuns included. The elite in the military use EOTech. Your comment is ass because you don't know what you are talking about.
I have the Holosun HS510C, love tthis optic. Was in the safe for the last 2 years, took it out yesterday and was dinging 6" plates at 200 yard, with no adjustments.
I have one that is 7, almost 8yrs old on an older BCM Recce.. It still has the original 2032 I put in it the day I got it.. It stays in the dark in a safe, but is my main banger rifle that I use to train and shoot at least once every 4-6weeks.. I don't go to the range like I did pre-2020, as the ammo is so out of control, but I still go out and shoot it often, with not one issue ever.. I have it at co witness height, with a 0.5in riser to 1.93.., and so is my g43 magnifier..
@@Clutch_Kick187 Nice, mine sets on top of my stock flat top DMPS Oracle 556 w/16 inch barrel it's good at eye level when pulling it up to fire. does the job quickly for close range, which is all I need this rifle for. Just like plinking long range to see if I still got it. LOL.
@@exon15 A "2032" is the type and size of the 3v lithium ion battery "coin battery" that most red dots use to power them.. Its actually designated CR2032..They are shaped like a quarter, and provide a really long life for optics to stay on constant if its a decent quality manufacturer. The new "K" size carry optics for small pistols like the P365 or G43x use a CR1632, which is exact same battery only smaller diameter. Thats what I was referring to..
You didn't point out that although the Eotech is better with night vision, the Holosun lets you run that single dot, making it just as effective I would think, since it's not drowning out your target nearly as much... assuming you're cool with just the dot anyway. Would have liked to see that with night vision. Good video, good comparison!
If you're using either sight correctly, neither reticle will drown out your target. With these types of sights, you should be focusing on your target not the dot unless you're referring to distance shooting.
Except the glass on the Holosun fucking SUCKS under NV. There is no comparison for passive aiming through NV. You can tell somewhat in the video but in real life its freaking huge.
Thought the same thing. GO with the 2MOA and it's all good. No one watching this needs that type of clarity anyway. It comes down to do you have an EOTECH or not. I'm team HS on this.
Check out our newer Aimpoint vs Holosun video. I show the dot only under night vision. To be fair, the 510C gets dimmer than the 507 but it’s still no Eotech with dot only
@@TacticalAccountants question for you. I see some sights are for 223 and some for 308 whats the difference also do you know what the best sights that are scar rated ?
So helpful! This gave me exactly what I needed to know. I really wanted to convince myself to get a EoTech for my new B&T APC9 PDW, but the battery life is a huge deal to me. I'm gonna go with a Holosun.
Battery life only matters if you’re in a war zone imo. For any ordinary person the battery life is sufficient. Also you can store batteries in your grip or stock if you have that feature.
@@sector986 Even then, you're not gonna spend 1000 hours in a warzone and even if you forget to replace the batteries when its low; you'll most likely will be carrying a spare of any consumable gear on your person so it'll be piss easy to exchange the battery during combat
I own a Holosun red dot and an Eotech, but I've installed the Holosun HS510C on two of my family member's firearms. Very detailed comparison, but I think a couple of things need to be mentioned. 1. The Holosun and Eotech utilizes two different types of technology to produce their image. The Holosun uses a LED laser, while the Eotech is holographic; pro's and con's to each. 2. The Eotech appears fuzzy by nature, per the owner's manual one should be focusing on the target rather than the reticle and the image should clear up. 3. The Holosun's auto brightness seems great on paper, but I wouldn't recommend having that feature on for two reasons: 1) when using a white light the reticle will be washed out completely. 2) light intensity may differ between you and the target, which the optic may dim the reticle too much to use. 4. The Holosun HS510c is pretty much a large open-reflex sight, debris may obstruct the laser from reaching the lens. All in all, I think the Holosun is a great bang for the buck optic with nice features. The Holosun should satisfy most consumers whether they use it for recreation or home defense. When it comes to ruggedness and reliability I'll take the Eotech, I just wish Eotech would include a shake and wake feature. Great video!
I totally agree with all your points except possibly part of 1. Idk if I'm correct but lmk what you think. I thought the holosun uses a LED light (not laser) while the eotech uses an actual laser. Your number 3 is HUGE IMO. I don't think a lot of people realize how true this can be. I also really wish the eotech had a shake awake option.
That shake awake setting is crucial for HD , i dont have time to fumble with buttons.. unfortunately i have to move my exps3 to my 14.5 with a magnifier and my 10.3 will have the holosun.
I wonder how much the green dot version would affect the night vision. Also would of like to have seen the holoson with the dot only in the night vision
The Holosun 512 is the new enclosed version, it has the same dot/circle reticle options battery life etc. The advantage of being enclosed means the emitter cant get obscured by rain, snow mud or whatever. It also has the solar option too....There is also a titanium version that is extremely strong.
Holosun has done excellent in giving the gun community the best budget options hands down. I do still believe the high $cost$ red dots are worth investing in....at least one for a primary fighting rifle, just like it may be a good idea everyone own at least one revolver, or one Glock no matter if you like them or not.
Just added the Holosun on my BCM 9" 300 blk out and absolutely love it ....If I didnt already have an Aimpoint compm5 on my 11.5 I would throw one on there too ...
Some people just really like the military novelty the EOtech has,, even if it would never come close to the amount of abuse it can handle. Theyll definitely get the battery life experience though.
Great review. One other important consideration for some is the combat aspect. Eotech is superior for rugged environments due to it being tried and true in combat and that it can operate even if the glass is broken. This is unlikely for most but it does offer some comfort to those fielding it in extremely austere environments. Eotech is very expensive and I think most users will prefer the holosun. I do dislike the fuzziness that eotech has on very bright settings but as a former combat infantryman I can recommend that all optics should be fired on their lowest brightness setting where the optic is visible otherwise you’re increasing moa thereby reducing accuracy. That is true for all optics. The brighter the reticle the bigger the dot and less precision. The auto on feature is pretty cool also. The optic will always be in the move in tactical environments but long battery life makes it okay. If I grab my weapon the sight comes on. Pretty cool. Hopefully eotech will go that route as well. I do love the solar panel for no battery operation. It would be interesting to know whether or not holosun has configured it to only use battery when in low light pulling from solar first. For military applications batteries are a limitless supply and frequently replaced. For civilians that becomes a huge expense. I imagine that holosun uses solar first and that’s the reason for extreme battery longevity. Additionally you could pack more batteries with less space for holosun. If holosun solar is damaged or the glass is broken users may encounter big problems. Eotech is extremely rugged and ensures that the worst of situations can be prevented. Their engineering is centered around military operations. I might have purchased holosun if I had seen this review first. I just know eotech can take one hell of a beating and maintain zero and is well trusted amongst the most elite fighting forces of the us military. I’ll have to look into magnifiers options for holosun. Maybe I’ll pick it up as well. Great review!!!! Thanks for this.
The Holosun solar panel runs the optic whenever possible and the battery runs it when solar isn't available. The battery life is only including the battery's life, not in conjunction with solar. I should also mention the "hood" that goes around the optic is titanium and only connects at the base so energy from a hard hit does not transfer through the glass.
I just got an EXPS3 after my EXPS2 of 10 years got so dim i couldn't see the reticle in bright daylight. Even with that said, the EXPS2 still turns on. EOTech all the way!!!
I know a couple of operators and they both pooh poohed the eotech saying the preferred the T2. I was surprised about that. I have been around long enough to know your first thought is probably too question my references, but I'd rather hear what you have to say about the Aimpoint T2 if you've ever used it.
@@michaelmappin4425 I know your question wasn't directed towards me, but if I may offer an opinion: I am not an operator, but I do own a T2 and an EXPS3. I prefer my EOTech simply because it rocks at CQB and even out to mid-range distances, is built like a tank, has a large FOV, the reticle is awesome, and it looks/works great using NODS. I was really dismayed when I got my brand new T2 and discovered that in order to see it in bright daylight I have to crank it all the way up to settings 10, 11, or 12. Apparently the new ones are not as bright as the old ones from everything I've read on ar15.com. However, even with that being said, my philosophy has always been get what works best for you and train with it a lot in order to become proficient...and carry spare batteries regardless of battery life.
@@Knight_of_the_Old_Code awesome reply. Thank you very much. My research has had me leaning toward the EOtech but I was really thrown for a loop when I asked the pros. I'm not likely going to sweep any houses or go after a high value target but I do want good stuff if it's ever needed.
I just bought a Kriss Vector CRB, and I'm looking to kit it out with some 'ease of use' attachments. I was looking for some decent sights and kept seeing Holosun and Eotech pop up as contenders. Your detailed review helped me to decide which to pick, I decided on the Holosun since it seems to be just as good, and me being a budget man, had to go with the price
I guess if you've already spent $20k on night vision an extra $350 on the optic is trivial. Meanwhile if you don't have night vision, like most people, you get to save $200. Great review!
@@carbonslice8160 yeah, of course you could spend 40-50k on Panos. But my white phosphorous pvs14 came with IR laser, mount and bump helmet and I paid jussst over 3 grand.
Holoson is a decent red dot no doubt. Lots to like about them, especially when they first came out. They were affordable and for the most part pretty dependable. For $120.00 it was well worth it. Fast foward to 2021, Holoson is pushing $300.00 or more, where as EOTECH is still $450.00 for a 512. If I'm in my yard shooting targets, either is fine. If I'm shooting to defend myself..EOTECH is my GO TO optic.
You do excellent work. Great comparison. I did not realize the Holosun beat the EOTech in window size... my own experience in testing myself and multiple red dots showed that the larger window sights were always a bit faster for a multi target course of fire.
Holosun has the best reticle for people with astigmatism. And in a SHTF situation the ability to operate without a battery is beneficial. Batteries on the shelf tend to maybe last 5-10 years without operation and having an optic that doesn’t necessarily require a battery is great. Most people don’t have NVG either, and opting for a white light and red dot is not a bad idea if you train with it, if not more affordable.
The reticle shape doesn't have anything to do with astigmatism. I have pretty bad astigmatism and the holosun, since it's just a red dot, does exactly what every other red dot does.
@@tonzophun i also have an astigmatism and the eotech might be the worst looking reticle I have seen to date. The Holosun is probably the best. I did try and Exps 2 not the 3 so idk how much of a difference there is
Can confirm, I have moderate astigmatism and the Holosun 510c has amazing reticle clarity compared to Aimpoint T2 and any other red dot I've looked through. Through my eyes, it's even crisper than an EOTech (yes I focus at the target).
Just discovered your channel and your information mixed with your humor has earned you a new subscriber. I’ll be picking up the Holosun thanks to your video. I cannot justify the cost especially if the largest complaint about Holosun night vision would be solved by removing the 6moa ring and just running the dot. I’d be very interested to see the Holosun with the Streamlight TLR VLR2. Otherwise, VERY good stuff!
All I know is I'm extremely happy with my 510c Green dot. EOTECH is great but I love the 510c, I've got 2 of them one on my scorpion and the other on my AR.
Getting back to you guys 10 months later. Just bought a Windam SRC and a Eotech 512 got an amazing deal. This has been amazing for outdoor shooting and classes. You can pick out the reticle much quicker. I have also found the Eotech has a higher level of accuracy. I get it the battery power is not as good but overall it is a better optic. I you are just shooting at an indoor range however the 510 c will suffice.
One word not mentioned in the video... parallax. The Eotech, as a HWS, has essentially zero parallax compared to the Holosun reticle. And then put a 3x magnifier in front of both on it to try to hit a 10 inch circle out to 300 yards and parallax error of 5-10 MOA on the Holosun means missing the target even with good elevation hold-overs (like on the Eotech XPS 3-4 or 3-2).
Honestly this video is what sold me on a holosun. I have a exps and was debating between another or go to holosun. Now I'm thinking of getting a second! (Mainly for regular use. Non night vision. Wasn't looking at that aspect for me personally)
The superior battery life & the auto-on off features of the Holosun are HUGE factors, easily the most important considerations IMHO --- If the sight fails due to battery life, none of the features matter one bit.
You can stick a cr123/aa's in your pistol grip or butt stock. It turns off by itself after 4 or 8 hours and last continuously on for over a month, the reticle even flashes when its low. The cr123 batteries will last a whole year even with passive drain, you'd have to have it on 1 to 2 hours a day to go through it in a year. That said, you do see police body cameras of guys forgetting to turn on their eotechs all the time, but they are cops so they fuck up a lot anyways.
@Alan Ashby agreed. Most people buying either of these sights are going to be dead from lack of meds before their sight goes out if their apocalypse fantasies actually happens.
Great video. I was between these two and landed on the Holosun, depsite all the peer reviews leading me towards the EOTech. I think I made the right decision.
Thanks for the review! I'm sure the Chinese are capable of making quality products, cell phones come to mind, however, Holosun because it is not only made by but also owned by a Chinese company is a no go for me. I'm quite aware that many many optics are made in China, but when at all possible I'd prefer to keep my money in the USA, or if that's not possible with an allied country. (like Meprolight for instance) EOTech for the record for those who do not know is a Michigan based company, and their products are made in Michigan. (disclosure their parent company is Koucar Management, also a private Michigan based company)
Great review - you just saved me about $300. One day I may splurge on an EOTech, but today is not that day. Thanks for the review - I'm gonna pick myself up that Holosun!
@Paul Bargo after everything I've seen (and I've done my research) it seems it really comes down to personal preference. If you're not running night vision the 510C has a lot of advantages (battery life, more settings, smaller, weighs less, and has a crisper dot). Sure the EOTech may have it on night vision, but most civilians like myself don't need to run night vision. But it does come down to personal preference - sure the EOTech is proven in battle but this 510C has gone through stress tests and torture tests and compared to the EOTech. If you want to save a couple hundred this is not a bad option, and it is not "trash".
I would have liked to see what just the dot mode looks like under NVG on the holosun. I feel like with the 2 moa dot I would prefer to just run the dot over the "holographic" reticle.
Great video and it helped me with my decision to go with a holosun over an eotech. It fits my needs and I can see it clearly with my astigmatism. Also it is significantly less expensive, especially if you can pick one up preowned.
If you’re looking for a reason to buy chineseum junk you found the video. Holographic sights have zero para shift and are designed to help with astigmatism.
Thank you for great review including using magnifier 3:17 and 3:45 For duty use, EOTech still have advantage by several aspect. But for fun use / competition, me included, I want to have Holosun one. I am also aware of the rumor [EOTech laser diode dim out over the years] Especially I am not in US so I cant have full support of manufacture.

@@dan0alda568 I have both the holosun and an xps2-0. The holosun sits on my 6.8 power on 24/7. Think I've changed the battery once in the past 3 years. Now it does auto off after a bit and auto on with any motion, but the battery life is outstanding in it.
@@michaelmignone5869 I couldn’t care less. That battery life argument is pure hilarity. I’ve got a 1200 dollar optic riding on a 3k weapon. A set of AAs (I have the HHS3)is a drop in the bucket, to say nothing of ammo. They didn’t come up with that tech on their own, they have taken from this and that and made a good product, I won’t deny it. But when you take others tech and have it built at slave wages I would hope you would come in at a low price point. So lets copy Aimpoint’s LED circuit, Trijicon’s shock chassis and come in at 1/2 the price. I am by no means all American, I have an Elcan, Aimpoint, a Japanese Vortex, Nightforce, and Zeiss etc. But the Chinese government is despicable, and any money I can deny them, I will. I won’t tell another man how to spend his coin, if you are good with it, play on player. Look at all you’ll save on batteries.
Honestly, just looking through the optics as you had shown, the eotech looks brighter and more crisp to me. I wouldn’t have noticed the blur of it without your side by side pics
A 1.5" target 5 yards away (if viewing from ground level) would be a 5 foot tall person 200 yards away, or a 6 foot person 240 yards away. Thank you for this video! I appreciate your work.
Just found your channel. Really enjoyed this type of video and hope to see more comparisons on products. Probably the most in-depth but easy to watch videos I've seen on the topic.
Eotech can take some drops and bumps. Also, the Eotech emitters can’t be blocked by mud or debris. Eotech’s dot won’t magnify under a magnifier like a red dot. You’re paying more for Eotech’s proven ruggedness, but both are great options for civilians. Holosun and Eotech are great for my astigmatism.
The non magnifying of Eotech is a myth. It's not black voodoo science. A magnifier magnifies both just the same. But also magnifies the surrounding too.
This review is super awesome and helpful for those of us who want to get into night vision later but have a little bit of saving to do. I would ask this: Can you please do another video of the 510, set to just the dot under night vision? I wonder if that would obscure less of the target and make it MORE usable than with the circle dot. I understand it's never going to be Eotech-level nice because its not holographic.
I almost bought the 510c. It couldn’t get over the “ghost square” that appeared around my reticle. Plus the parallax can’t be disputed. EoTech has been king for a long time in that area.
well you missed your opportunity, why you didnt try the holo with the dot only in nv mode? if thats possible, i would assume way less bloom to be presented.
Great job with the review! I lean towards the Holosun because of the price difference and I don't really have need for nigh vison. I know you were reviewing them for a rifle but I'd like to see how they handle the pounding of being on a semi-auto pistol such as a .45
These would be a bit big on a .45 pistol, considering they weigh over 8 ounces. Going with a smaller RMR-sized reflex pistol sight would be more appropriate, as they function similar to the Holosun in this video but only weigh just over 1 ounce.
Great video! I did a video comparing the exact same optic and got FLAMED for comparing the two! LOL! Regardless, I think a way better comparison would be the Holosun 512 to an EOTECH, both are SEALED. The 510's weakness is the gap at the emitter. I have multiple Holosuns ( no 512 yet!) and Eotech EXPS 2 OPS mod and a HWS 518, I personally like both....but for the money I'd say go with a Holosun 512 and buy more ammo with the savings! MHO!!
I like the Holosun. I’m 41,It’s not like my old Marine ass is fighting much more than paper targets nowadays 😂. However, when I spend big, I like Meopta or Meprolight. I think EO makes a damn nice product, but it’s image is too grainy for me. That’s personal, not a knock on its quality.
I'll be honest, even in very dark conditions I've had good luck with the 510 through my tubes, I use some decently specced echos with low EBI and low halo
I have the Holosun and an EXPS 2. The EOTech is so much clearer to my eyes. It looks "pixelated" but much sharper despite that, zero blooming or starbursting. You get a more precise reticle.
i have the same best red dot for the money got mine just around 250 love the features on it and it blow the eotech u can buy 2 holosun for the price of one eotech lol
It's not even on the same level as the EOTech. You're paying $310 for technology that's exactly the same as those cheap red dot sights on Amazon for 22s and airsoft guns. What you're paying for is materials, but that's it. With the EOTech you're getting true holographic sights that offer almost no parallax shift at 100 yards, whereas the 510c requires you to be much more disciplined in your sight alignment to prevent missing your target.

@@chrisreetz4117 An EOTech 512 can be had for less than $75 more dollars than the 510c. It's really not that much of a price difference. Yes, your Holosun isn't a bad optic by any stretch of the imagination, but my comment is related to those claiming its on par, or better than an EOTech. When in reality they're still lacking in terms of build quality, and clarity. There's a reason Professional military members utilize the EOTech, and that's due go it's resilience, and dependability even when the glass breaks, so long as you can see the reticle it still works.

I own 3 Holosun’s and they work flawlessly. 508T on a shotgun, 507K on a G43X mos, and a 510C paired with an HM3X on an AR pistol. I’d choose Holosun over EOTech any day. American made has become a sales pitch in order to gouge consumers. Sorry, I don’t get patriotic over a company looking to increase profit margins. These companies very rarely innovate......just release minor updates to outdated designs
I own both. Both are great optics and just fine for home defense. Wouldn’t trust a holosun in a war zone scenario but the likelihood my house would turn into a war zone during a home invasion is slim to none so the eotech is definitely overkill if you are a man on a budget.
@@m.687 not enough battery life? Holosun is rated the exact same as the LCO. It also has solar backup. And a good rule of thumb is to just change batteries every year regardless so battery life should be a moot point if you care about training and maintenance of your equipment.
@@JonDoe-gr2np I was referring to the eotech. I've since switched to a T2 after realizing that if an LCO is in a car, it won't auto shut off and the battery life is significantly less.
@@moserjones7563 I do pay attention. That’s why I don’t live in a big metropolitan area. China and Russia won’t be making war in the mountains in the middle of nowhere.
I have the holosun 510C green. Love it. I have about 10 grand in optics. This holosun goes toe to toe with aimpoint at less than half the price. Highly recommend. Just make sure you put medium lock tight on your quick detach screw. It will back out no matter how tight you make it. Only complaint. Also I don’t recommend with night vision. Emitter visible if someone was looking at you in the dark.
Dude ! Your edits are fire ! First off the lego idea for scaling 200 iq and the Simpsons clip @ 6:03 had me laughing and made me post this comment ;p keep up the good work !
I own the HS510C, and EXPS2. HS510C reticle looks far more crisp. I have an astigmatism, so that may factor into why the red dot looks better in my sight. The EXPS2 is worse in almost every way, but is American made and battle tested. I also prefer the riser on the HS510C. It feels much more natural for me. Well worth the few dollars.
That's something that always bothered me about the EOTech I had, the pixelation. I wish it was EOTech who had come out with a RDS with absurd battery life and the same excellent reticle they usually use... but I feel like they rested on their laurels from the early 2000s and did very little innovation since. These days they've got some pretty solid magnified optics in the lineup, but the red dots (ok, holosights) are showing their age.
Very nice test and comparison, I also like the conclusion. I have a Holosun, I'm not from the US, so it cost me about $450. However, night vision is very expensive and some of the higher grades are not even available outside the US. I can only visit a indoor shooting range anyway. So far I can't complain about Holosun. By the way, the difference in display is due to the fact that most holographic collimators use laser, therefore they are heavy and have a large battery, this Holosun uses an LED diode, therefore it has a low energy requirements.
I had both optics. The eotech sold.. I never get used to the reticle. Also hated the default brightness every time you turn the optic on and the battery life. Yes maybe is durable etc but bad features. I use the 510 now and I have 1 negative. After 2 years for safety I decided to change the battery and the head of the battery tray mounting screw broke off. I ended up with a broken hard screw in the soft aluminium body. Holosun never replied to my problem. Terrible customer service . The screw was faulty. I managed to drill that out without a scratch etc but had to use a bigger screw. Its not visible but I know there is an issue. Maybe just a fluke but because my experience with a customer service I would think twice to buy anything from holosun again.
Love the 510c. I was surprised that I'm faster and more accurate with it than a red dot. Wanted the Eotech but with my old eyes the reticle is almost useless without my glasses on while the Holosun is far clearer. If I was 30 I would probably like the Eotech more. Ended up with two 510c but do have other optics with etched reticles if needed too.
You are not supposed to focus on the eotech reticle. If you focus on the target like you should the eotech is just as crisp. Just FYI. Took me getting used to as well.
Some additional things I believe the Eotech has over the holosun are 1) if the glass breaks it still works 2) The center dot stays 1 MOA when magnified, shooting out farther is easier, because the dot doesn’t cover the target. 3x on a 2 MOA holosun is now a 6 MOA dot. 3) holographic has little parallax, so if you do use nods there is some flexibility on eye positions. LED’s typically are not parallax free although holosun seems to imply it maybe is on this optic.
It's entirely possible my brain is too simple to understand the magnified 1 MOA thing but I honestly don't. At 1x the dot has a size, which is roughly 1 inch at 100 yards. At 3x the dot has the same size relative to the target, and will appear roughly 3x bigger through the magnifier. The same applies for 2 MOA dot. 1x3 = 3, not 1. I actually did the Lego figure thing to see this for myself. It's not clear to me that the EOTech dot looks much smaller magnified.
@@TacticalAccountants I watched a shot show eotech booth explanation of the dot. What they said was the dot is actually smaller than 1 MOA, but the human brain eye can only see down to 1 MOA. So magnified it’s still 1 MOA. I will see if I can find it...
This video made it very clear to me that I can save money with the Holosun over the EOTech. Thanks for such a great video!
Do NOT buy Chinese junk!
FYI: If you have Astigmatism the eotech reticle will be kinda blurry without your glasses but the holosun will be perfectly clear without glasses. I own both
I second this! Told my buddy why you spend so much money on this trash optic I can’t see anything. It works for him though
Ditto. I tried the EOtech in the store and it was fuzzy. All other red dots had mini starbursts. Haven't tried the Holosun, but purchased it online and will see.
@@reelrocknrolla4251 I'll be BUYING a Holosun 508T when they become available.
I have a holosun and it's all fucked up lol. Well I have more than just astigmatism so idk.
I agree with this completely, I picked up an EXPS2 and thought it was fuzzy until I actually shot with it. No fuzziness effected me at all
Definitely some mind fuckery with a holographic lol it’s crazy how crisp it can look when focusing on target compared to the fuzziness of focusing on the reticle
I'm so glad to see other people who understand that lol
This.
Yep, back before my eyes went to heck, I could use one of the dots that make up the dot to get pretty darn good results. I think there were three dots, they just look like one now, 10-15 years later.
The LEGO guy usage secured a follow from me
Agreed. Same
Me too! Clever!
U 2 lol ?
I have 2 of them . Love them
Holosun is being battle tested in Ukraine right now, Russia's issuing these to their forces
OK the Simpson's cut was perfect, subscribed
Do you prefer the red or green that you own?
@@TheHeadmanI was wondering the same thing, I heard the red one does not flicker as much because it uses less power than green
This review is pure gold. Thank you.
I love quality in budget.
I want the best, but I am realistic.

Your description on how an eotech works is spot on 😂
One of the best reviews I've seen. Watch the whole thing.
I have and love both. Love the lighter weight, battery life and the auto on mode of the Holosun and the ruggedness of the eotech
EOTech is on an entirely different level than their competition. The biggest factor that separates it is its minimal parallax shift at 100 yards. This is where the holographic sight comes into play over a traditional LED optic.
Bingo

@@Clutch_Kick187 Thanks
Extremely well done video with outcomes nicely explained and your reasonings sound, IMO. Thanks for all.

That was such an excellent video... Learned alot thanks
Thanks for the excellent review! You just gained a new subscriber!
I wonder how much the green dot version would affect the night vision. Also would of like to have seen the holoson with the dot only in the night vision
Great review. This was really educational for me. I appreciate the time and work you put into it.
The Holosun 512 is the new enclosed version, it has the same dot/circle reticle options battery life etc. The advantage of being enclosed means the emitter cant get obscured by rain, snow mud or whatever. It also has the solar option too....There is also a titanium version that is extremely strong.
Yup, 512 is the way. 😊
Any tube vision?
Holosun has done excellent in giving the gun community the best budget options hands down. I do still believe the high $cost$ red dots are worth investing in....at least one for a primary fighting rifle, just like it may be a good idea everyone own at least one revolver, or one Glock no matter if you like them or not.
Not sure how $300 counts as a budget red dot
@@masonhaggerty186 when price compared to what's considered "non budget" in this space, yes $300 is indeed still "budget".
I agree 300 vs 600 yes it's a budget optic.
That night vision is awesome!!!! My pick is holosun for sure. But green dot instead of red.
Just added the Holosun on my BCM 9" 300 blk out and absolutely love it ....If I didnt already have an Aimpoint compm5 on my 11.5 I would throw one on there too ...
Nothing wrong with either tbh
Depends on what you're doing. Eotech has the reputation. But for 99% of most cases the Hollersun is good nuff

@@tonzophun Lol, right? My EXPS3-0 is crispy as hell for me, but the 510c was my first optic and smeared hella bad since its just a dot.

Just discovered your channel and your information mixed with your humor has earned you a new subscriber. I’ll be picking up the Holosun thanks to your video.
20,000 hrs vs every time I picked up my rifle with the Eotech XPS it had a dead battery? I’ll take the Holosun or an Aimpoint.
Thanks!

I'm quite aware that many many optics are made in China, but when at all possible I'd prefer to keep my money in the USA, or if that's not possible with an allied country. (like Meprolight for instance)
EOTech for the record for those who do not know is a Michigan based company, and their products are made in Michigan. (disclosure their parent company is Koucar Management, also a private Michigan based company)
Ya I ordered an EOTECH a few minutes ago. I just went for a lower priced one I don’t want the night vision.
lol @ allied country. Why? What a stupid way to shop
Eotech has given a lot of money to democrats such as Diana Feinstein
@@RealDogeOperator and President Biden gave you a stimulus check so stfu. I will take two more eotechs plz...
Yep. I buy American if I have a choice. Sometimes you don't.
Very good video! Love the honesty and I agree with you. For a NV set up I’d pay the extra $ for the Eo Tech and if not the 510C is the way to go.
Great review - you just saved me about $300.
One day I may splurge on an EOTech, but today is not that day. Thanks for the review - I'm gonna pick myself up that Holosun!
You can't go wrong with the 510C!
@Paul Bargo Ahh yeah that could have a big play in it - the military will always buy the best of the best but some of us aren't as fortunate.
@@darktitan_3493 That’s rare they buy the best. Most of their standard issue stuff is garbage lol.
I would have liked to see what just the dot mode looks like under NVG on the holosun. I feel like with the 2 moa dot I would prefer to just run the dot over the "holographic" reticle.
“My basement, not my mom’s basement”. LMAO
Thank you for great review including using magnifier 3:17 and 3:45
For duty use, EOTech still have advantage by several aspect.
But for fun use / competition, me included, I want to have Holosun one.
I am also aware of the rumor [EOTech laser diode dim out over the years]
Especially I am not in US so I cant have full support of manufacture.
Hey brother, heck of a comparison vid! Incredibly helpful. Thank you!
Nice review! Reliability, durability and simplicity ... I own the Eotech.
Amen. I have a HHS on my SCAR and it works great. And if you believe that battery life for the Holosun I have a bridge I wanna sell you.
The U.S. Military Forced A Recall Of The 500 Series Range EOTech For Major Malfunctioning Via Not Performing Per Both Hot & Cold Temperature Specifications!
@@dan0alda568 So battery life is important.... until it's not .
Honestly, just looking through the optics as you had shown, the eotech looks brighter and more crisp to me. I wouldn’t have noticed the blur of it without your side by side pics
Wow this was the best optic comparison review, I’ve seen I like the scale model of the lego man at 5 yards.
Thanks!
A 1.5" target 5 yards away (if viewing from ground level) would be a 5 foot tall person 200 yards away, or a 6 foot person 240 yards away.
Thank you for this video! I appreciate your work.
Just based off this review. The Holosun kicks the Eotech's ass. I went with the HS515 green dot. Very pleased.
No, it doesn't lol research the diff between holographic and red dot.
The Eotech is the old wise boomer and the Holosun is the new kid on the block.
I've been running a 510c since they released. It's a great optic. I prefer it over the Eotech.
Just found your channel. Really enjoyed this type of video and hope to see more comparisons on products. Probably the most in-depth but easy to watch videos I've seen on the topic.
Appreciate it!
Very nice comparison, thanks for taking the time to do this..
EoTech has been king for a long time in that area.
king of what? the garbage ?
@@highspeed9518 King of your wallet. If you thought that was the wife, no Eotech has something to say about that.
huh?

great review, lots of time spent here
well you missed your opportunity, why you didnt try the holo with the dot only in nv mode? if thats possible, i would assume way less bloom to be presented.
Thank you for the review! I’ve been looking for something like this for a while now and this was perfect!
Great review period
I'll be honest, even in very dark conditions I've had good luck with the 510 through my tubes, I use some decently specced echos with low EBI and low halo
Love your sense of humor! Good job. Gets me thinking and that is hard these days...😁
I have the Holosun and an EXPS 2. The EOTech is so much clearer to my eyes. It looks "pixelated" but much sharper despite that, zero blooming or starbursting. You get a more precise reticle.
@@Baroque-Handel who the heck stares at the reticle?
I have the Holosun 510C on my 300blk home defense build because of the shake awake feature. I have the EOTECH EXPS3 on my if shit hits the fan build

Oh just stop teasing us peasants with your green dots. 😭
i have the same best red dot for the money got mine just around 250 love the features on it and it blow the eotech u can buy 2 holosun for the price of one eotech lol
Very good video, thank you very much, it helped me decide which one to buy 🙏👍👍
There is a riser for the holosun make it 1/3 I can't remember where I ordered it from but I found one 510c definitely beats the EOTech hands down
American defense manufacturing makes a 510 mount.
ADM makes some good stuff!
It's not even on the same level as the EOTech. You're paying $310 for technology that's exactly the same as those cheap red dot sights on Amazon for 22s and airsoft guns. What you're paying for is materials, but that's it. With the EOTech you're getting true holographic sights that offer almost no parallax shift at 100 yards, whereas the 510c requires you to be much more disciplined in your sight alignment to prevent missing your target.
my hollison 510c was on my coyote hunting shotgun for 2 years 10 degree weather for days on end pounding it in the woods it you should watch the reviews warrior-poet guy does on holosun I also have their 403b on a 30 ought 6 for bear and brush hunting money is not the decision maker for me I could have eotechs on all of them reality is they're cheaper and are just as good or better I'm a Hunter who just got into this tactical stuff a little bit my stuff actually gets used and abused
The holosun is a beast had it on my ar for a year with thousands of rounds and also on my m92 pap thing still going crazy
Thank you for that...I was looking for someone that would say something like this...I was wondering if the Holosun could take the pounding of a AK SBR...Andy issues after your post!
@@enigmatic51me95 I’ve actually kept the holosun on the zpap to this day and it still works 😭😭 just make sure your threads are tight and it’s still good to go 👍👍I have astigmatism so I can see holosuns reticle away clearer then the eotech on my ar
From this I think the Holosun is pretty amazing...and I thought it was a sort of cheaper alternative - I was wrong big time .I'm subscribing
I own both. Both are great optics and just fine for home defense. Wouldn’t trust a holosun in a war zone scenario but the likelihood my house would turn into a war zone during a home invasion is slim to none so the eotech is definitely overkill if you are a man on a budget.
Not enough battery life. Go with an LCO. 50,000 hrs and 1 moa dot
@@m.687 not enough battery life? Holosun is rated the exact same as the LCO. It also has solar backup. And a good rule of thumb is to just change batteries every year regardless so battery life should be a moot point if you care about training and maintenance of your equipment.
Better start paying attention then. Cause there are troubled times coming
Does the green work with infrared night vision?
I like the "shake awake" feature of the holosun
Dude ! Your edits are fire ! First off the lego idea for scaling 200 iq and the Simpsons clip @ 6:03 had me laughing and made me post this comment ;p keep up the good work !
With NV just use the single dot with the Holosun. That works just fine!
Anyway Holosun needs to work on the NV setting…
Because.... Magic! Both are very good optics for different applications. Good video Sir! You gotta new Sub!
Just ordered the green Halosun 510C-GR , excited to get it out and put some lead down range to test 🇺🇸🇺🇸
510c is a red dot...it’s not actually a holographic
Bought the HS510C back in 2020. It's extremely impressive especially for the price.
Also, the Lego man comparison was a nice touch 😉
