Gabe Suarez Comments on the Kalashnikov Rifle
Suarez taught the very first AK-47 centric class in the USA in 2005 in Prescott, AZ, as well as the first instructional video on the weapon (published by Paladin Press). He discusses why he doesn't think its the best choice in 2024 America, but also shows the best street-based handling methods for the weapon.

The reason that I started following Gabe Suarez was his teaching using the glock and the AK. It made good sense. I do not use AKs any more and will eventually sell mine. I still think that for close range combat the AK works as well as an AR, especially for clubbing or using the bayonet. But for the USA, the AR is the better system for a civilian. Decent combat ammo is available from PSA AAC, but it is steel case and one will not likely be hitting an eight inch plate at 300 yard through a typical AK with it. 200 yards is about the longest self defense shot that I have on my little estate.

I think the J Frame is a good choice if you live in a light populated area where chances of multiple persons/perp encounters are slim. Accuracy is the key. Better to be accurate with less than not accurate with more. Comes down to what you shoot best is what you should carry. For me I shoot steel guns better. Big hands and I don’t like the ergonomics of Glocks and polymer guns. Best for me is an 8 shot 357 with j frame back up. Hard to beat .357 magnum still even today.

All of mine are converted to G Model style safeties. You literally CAN'T engage the safety, only the decocker. A gun with a 10- 12 pound trigger doesn't need a manual safety. Do we put safeties on Revolvers? Wait, don't answer that.....

    • @harpsitardo

    • @harpsitardo

@@ThePracticalPatriot Don't worry - I think everyone knows, because every single video or forum thread online that has a gun with a manual safety has multiple people pointing out either a) how ridiculous a manual safety is or b) how superior a decocker model or modification is. I may agree with the latter, but then many of those people then proceed to tell them how they should swap out springs and triggers to achieve a perfect light trigger - thus negating any safety features of a DA/SA decocker. At that point, it's not any more safer than a striker fired gun with NO manual safety. 😇 There's a comment somewhere else that advocates this very thing!

If you have an MOS Glock hands down the best overall optic for concealed carry is the Holosun SCS MOS. No worries about a battery dying, direct mounts to the MOS cut, has serrations for gripping and that also make it look like a factory part made for the gun if that matters to you, cowittnesses with factory height sights, is only $350 but has the MRS and green dot and is tiny and easy to conceal.
