Please can you advice me , recently we had a new pressure boiler fitted and ever since then we can hear the pipes under the floor boards and walls tapping / rattling and banging noises . I have gone round to each radiator to see if there’s was air in them and some did have a lot of air and some didn’t , I then switched boiler back on and I have noticed the tapping/rattling/banging noise isn’t as loud but it’s still there and disturbs us during the night and mornings , do you know what the issue can be? Our old boiler was fine for 14 years with no noises whatsoever. I’ve read ppl saying there could be air in the boiler system but I haven’t found any video on RUclips that shows how to remove air from a pressure boiler apart from Americans that have a different set up as here in UK.
      Please help 🙏🏼

    thank you very much,
after trying forever to get my kitchen and hall rads to show any signs of warming up with no success this worked. i used a rad valve on the top outlet with a hose to outside and i worked the flow and return valves. seperatley.
it took some time to get all the air out but you could see the water stopping and flowing from the hose as the air came out
    awesome guy you are!

Thanks for this vid (and many others). Learnt from this to get a cold rad hot again. Easy 10min job including digging out some hose and an old half inch tail. Incidentally I drained into a bucket instead of outside as I could use a short 1m section of pipe. Easier to thread onto the rad.

Thanks for this video! I fixed my rad that wasn't getting very warm. Even though there didn't seem to be much air or any muck come out, it was tickety boo when I fired it up again! Winning!
If anyone is wondering how to make the threaded hose pipe connection - screwfix do a £3.50 filling kit that contains a couple of plastic adapters that are perfect to connect some garden hose up to the rad.

    • @harunyahyadotorg

Where does the trapped air go out from? You need to bleed the rads once more to expel the air lock (trapped air) out.

    • @londontrada
      @londontrada 2 года назад +1

@@harunyahyadotorg yea, you need to keep bleeding but it can be pushed out of the air vent. You should only get this issue on an open vented system, if you have a sealed system then you shouldn't have this problem. The idea is to push the air either out of the vent or into a radiator where it can be bled.

Just changed my indirect copper cylinder which is situated in a ground floor room in the kitchen. Refilled the heating system and all well, no leaks. All the rads hot on ground floor but the three rads in upper floor are stone cold. Must be an air lock some where; strange how the top floor rads are cold as generally after a drain down they get the heat first. No diversion valves on this system. Will try the hose pipe trick.

Not having a go, but learning to balance a system properly will alleviate this problem and can be done much quicker. If proper balancing techniques dont work, then the system has a blockage somewhere within a pipe/radiator and will require chemical or power flushing. I do enjoy some of your videos though, like I said, not having a go.

I’ve got to say your videos are brilliant. However sometimes I wonder if they’re actually aimed at plumbers & DIY audience cus I keep hearing words like:
    -“drop your ball valve“
    -“not enough suction“
    -“remove your bleed nipple“
    -“screw this in“
    -“take your hose outside“
-“connection not good enough between your hose & the nipple“
-“make sure the ball valve drops down nicely & doesn’t get stuck up“
-“you’ll hear air & water rushing out of this large hole we got here instead of this tiny little hole that used to be here“
-“pressure will disipate out of your hose by itself“
    -“remove your spigot“
    -“sucking onto your thumb”
    & so on.
These all extracted from this video😂🤣😂😂

I remember weeks of doing this with my system but it made no difference And I was mistified . The rads are plumbed with 15 mm Hep2O but with copper near the solid fuel boiler. I ended up dismantling the pipework and found a dead fly stuck at the first Hep2O support sleeve. It was small enough to go through the copper pipe but not that sleeve! After that I fixed some old net curtain over the top of the expansion tank.

I have two large twin panel radiators downstairs, that barely come on at all. I'm wondering if its airlock in them, as I have already checked the thermostats on each one, and the flow rate valve on the other side. I've tried bleeding slowly with a key, and that used to work but not anymore. I also have an at times loud knocking noise in the pipes above the room, sounds maybe nearest the cylinder tank which quitens down a little during the day.

I think I have this problem on one radiator. The rad is on ground floor with a feed and return coming from the floor above due to location. I've removed the bleed valve to take a look and it looks like a 10mm thread. Is there a particular fitting you could recommend to attach a hose? I was thinking maybe using a 10mm flexible tap tail connected to a garden hose fitting or similar.

priceless videos mate, after trying this to no avail i'm now at my wits end.
I have a boiler on ground floor, where the 2 bedroom rads and 2 bathroom rads are, and a sole radiator upstairs. The rad upstairs doesn't heat up.
Following the flow of water from the boiler, the warm water bypasses the pipework to the upstairs rad and only serves the downstairs rads. I fitted a stop cock to isolate the lower rads but the upstairs rad still doesn't heat up. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Great video do you have to turn all other radiators off while you do these steps?

Hi. I took a vertical rad off the wall recently to decorate behind it, put it back and now on the 3 panels out of 7 are getting hot (on the TRV side) Tried bleeding but only water coming out, not air. Could this be an airlock or something else? Also where can i get the 1/2 inch hose adapter?

Do you have any advice for doing this with traditional rads with the older style screw in bleed valves?

How is replacing a bleed vent with open ended hose any different? Both do exactly the same thing. The air you hear is just the air that entered the rad when you drained it to put the hose on.

Great video! Thanks! Quick question - one radiator in the house is stone cold (pressurised system). Both flow and return pipes are also cold. TRV seems OK. AllOther rads in house are lovely and hot. Is an airlock likely to be the problem if BOTH pipes are cold.

      +Alex R Air lock!

+plumberparts Tried removing the airlock, but it turned out to be a horribly kinked 10mm barrier pipe (instead of fitting an elbow - they just bent the pipe 90 degrees after the straight coupling). 8-year old house and I doubt the radiator ever worked - it does now!!!! Thanks again for all your great videos!
