    Good help. If there is less length folding under the board then you won’t get many wrinkles in the cloth. So 20 mil or 30 mil overlap on cloth. I found on my first craft that there was folds everywhere because there was so much cloth. I worked it down as I went along to a few wrinkles.

    .....all well explained apart that "epoxy is less toxic than polyester". Epoxy got much better mechanical properties, can be used on eps blanks, got better wetting properties of fibers so it saturates fibers much faster.... But it is far more toxic than polyester. See the health toxicity advice expecially on the hardner drum. Less smell doesn't mean less toxicity. Take care.

    Guys I'm a professional surfboard glasser, the laps have to be super saturated for the best possible result. And polyester resin is so much easier to work with than epoxy

      but dosent polyester eat through the foam? (this has happened to me). To be honest I would never try again with polyester unless you can tell me the trick for choosing the right one. I live in the Balearic Islands, and have a very limited supply of materials.

      EPS foam is more sensitive to hot temperature than PU. Poly resin gets hotter than Epoxy. If you have an EPS foam board you have to use Epoxy resin. If you have PU foam you should be able to use poly or Epoxy resin. I hope that helps.

    Hey Jord. KInda went away when you switched to the vlog format but had every intention of coming back when you started the projects again but realized I'm still subscribed but didn't click the notice bell icon. Thought I'd check in and see what you were up to. I think the last vid I saw was the giant sign rebuild. Surfboards huh? Very nice. I'm sure they are the same excellent Jord quality. You are quite the industrious young man. Ellen still around? You guys made a cute couple. I'll have to watch some back episodes and catch up. Happy Holidays.

    Very good and informative video! I have some questions I'll hope you can answer. How long do you wait from your lamination coat to your hot coat? Do you sand it before hot coating? And do you put in the leash plug before or after the lamination coat? Thanks =)

    • @shaneculler590

      There isn't a choice. For it to be usable, it has to be glassed or else the foam will just get destroyed in a matter of seconds

    I'm glassing homemade wake skates that have a very sharp and narrow edge along the bottom of the rail, cannot get the fiber glass to fold over that edge to where the lap should be, any suggestions?

    • @JordsWoodShop
      @JordsWoodShop  5 лет назад +1

      The first thing that comes to mind would be trying a cloth that is a 0/90 biaxial cloth rather than a weave as this are much better for draping over sharp edges, but also it may be the cloth weight your using may be too much for that edge...
      without seeing it, its hard to say though

    • @dictater2
      @dictater2 5 лет назад +1

      @@JordsWoodShop Thanks for the reply, that is certainly part of the problem. Where I live there are only two available cloth weights, one is a heavy woven cloth and the other is basically tissue weight, which will take the edge but in the end doesn't hold up to the punishment. I did layer yesterday and brought the heavy weight out to the edge, and I'm going to try a tissue layer over that and over the rail??? and see what happens.
