Watching the slow deterioration of Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight's relationship over the course of the series - both in the books and in the fandom works - has been one of the most heart-wrenching experiences I've had with any media ever, and you summarized it in a 34 second video!!! I love this, it portrays perfectly how squilf was slowly becoming unsure by her decision but honestly knowing she doesn’t regret it because she loves LeafPool and her kits
I love how the tiny “laugh” at the end can be interpreted as sobbing, also this is just their relationship to a T for me
This is actually the first animation meme of this song that I see that feels like it fits? Like many just focus on a REAL peppermint and this one shows that the peppermint is just a metaphor for a relationship or things that are going on in general between people.
I really love how you did this, it makes me emotional the shift from `i want the peppermint´ to `I can´t take it anymore and I don´t even know when it started to be ton much.`

I love how Brambleclaw/star is not demonized in this, but portrayed canonically. In last few years Bramblestar is portrayed as manipulative evil jerk, but actually fandom just thinks that he is pure abuser and then should be portrayed as that... But dudes... 1. World is not black and white. 2. People just want him to look worse than he actually is.

I feel like he is trying to be a good leader, like Firestar was. He still doesn't want to be like his father Tigerstar, who was bad to everyone, except his family.
But while giving so much energy to his leadership, Bramblestar sacrifices his time for family. He treats Squirrelflight more like a deputy than his love partner. But the thing is, it is easier to deal with someone who you know well. But they feel more free to express themselves too. And what we have: Bramblestar and Squirrelflight are mates, but have also just business relationship, where love is kinda redundant. They both feel more comfortable working with eachother and express their opinion. But Bramblestar has (had) higher position and has the right to control deputy's actions. And he feels more freely to control deputy, who is his wife, because she is his family. And sometimes it goes too far...
To Bramblestar clan is more important. He feels high responsibility for everyone's welfare. And thinks he could sacrifice his family for that. Let's remember Firestar. Everyone say he was great dad, but actually it's not true. Remember when he got to know the prophecy about fire and tiger? "Fire and tiger will destroy Thunderclan". He became so mean to Squirrelpaw, ignoring her feelings and arguments, he was pressuring his kid without explanations to protect his clan from that not even clear prophecy. But then, after his kid was gone, he was regretting that so much. And then, when truth about the 3 was revealed, he did nothing to support Squirrelflight, as she was stranger to him.
Bramblestar treats Squirrelflight as deputy (but once again pressures her more than normal )
Squirrelflight on the other side wants to be treated more like love than business partner.
Bramblestar had every right to be angry at squirrelflight, but no right to abuse her.
I am now reading the brocken code but I still can't understand how Bramble abused her like ik he ignored and acted cold towards her but is that abusing..?

@@Something__31 yes. he gives her the cold shoulder and guilt trips her, that is emotional abuse. there are several instances where he treats her like a child by making her do child's chores whenever she makes mistakes, which is also emotional abuse. he also uses his position of power over her (for instance, he threatens to replace her as deputy many times to manipulate her into agreeing with him) which is power imbalance abuse.
I believed he even threatened her, saying that he would live far longer than her and would be able to have other mates to have kits with after she died

Theyre unable to separate the leader and deputy from two former mates as well and they are refusing to see Squirrel’s active involvement in her own consequences.
Not talking to someone and avoiding them is not cold shouldering. He was hurt deeply and none of these people think men are allowed to have emotions or even make mistakes without inevitably being abusive by default.
Even when she did everything he does to her exactly the same, even before he acts any certain way

I actually really like this one, cuz I feel like in a lot of videos, it skips out on how a majority of their problems are trust related after Squilf’s decisions. Bramble totally has done wrong, but I also feel like people gloss over that their relationship getting back together is going to be rocky because of how badly Squilf broke his trust (which doesn’t mean she deserved bad treatment, either). It’s just nice to see Squilf being allowed to be wronged AND have done wrong herself, you can be in a bad relationship, still be a part of the problems, and still be wronged by that person as well. I don’t know why I’m rambling, I guess I just like that it’s more applicable to both the books and IRL. (And also that she can be hurt even if she did bad stuff, too)
I totally agree with you! It's very easy to just blame one person, but a lot more honest to the truth to acknowledge that everyone messes up and has their own share of problems they bring to the table.

yeah but like. i'm assuming by broke his trust you mean the kit secret, but squilf didn't really have a choice? and i feel like every instance where squilf goes against bramble she's doing what she thinks is right and usually is in the right. squilf being jealous of jesse was unfair, but compared to bramble that's hardly anything, especially considering that they're over the jesse thing now. moonkitti has a very good and more in depth video about their relationship if you wanna look at that
@@mush-Shroom I get what you mean, personally I like to apply the character traits the Erins laid out for Bramble in arc 1 and 2 instead of their confusing take that they have on Bramble now of "good guy who is abusive in his relationship but in the right regardless" seeing as I feel like they just kind of lost the character with that.
Realistically under normal Bramble behaviour (which should by no means be abusive) we then have a normal, flawed relationship where both of them mess up.

Brambleclaw tells her that if she told him he would’ve helped her (mind you he said this in front of EVERYONE in the gathering, in front of his own leader that he would’ve lied to all of them for her, so he’s not bluffing)
She basically replies I wanted you to love them as your own cause I’m barren so we could never have the chance to raise kits again, so yeah she did have a choice and imo this is squilfs major fuck up no one wants to recognize
The situation she was put in was not fair but she did smth horrible to brambleclaw and everyone is just so happy to move past that

Squirrel is a fiery and passionate soul who did mature over the course of the books, and Bramble, who just kinda delved into chaos after he became leader. I don’t agree with how he’s treating her as of right now, but I’m glad to know he’s at least retiring and she gets her chance to prove herself. Great work as always. :D

I absolutely adore Brambleclaw, I haven’t read past Bramblestar’s storm because I know damn well that the books go crazy after that but he was such a COOL character in the early series ( 1 - 4), I absolutely love characters that stem from evil but fight to be good and I hate that the authors apparently turned him into an abusive character so I simply pretend I do not see ❤️

i think the ending of the animation is interesting, most of the version i've seen with the audio are like "oh, haha, am i sleeping on the couch?" "hehe, yeah you are, but everything is fine because i'm forcing you to do so, nicely". though maybe that's just the ones i've seen. plus squilf and bramble's relationship is interesting. i haven't read all the books! i'm currently in book 2 of vision of shadows. i do think that bramble is in the wrong, if tawny was leafpool in this case, he probably would've done something simular. even if hawkfrost wasn't murdery he would've brable would have done the same.

Goodness god this is such a painfully accurate depiction of gaslighting, and I’m very upset a lot of the comments are missing the point and crying about how poor Bramblestar looks so sad. This is literally how gaslighting and abuse works irl, I don’t care how you view either of these characters. It takes real talent to portray it correctly.

He was as you say "abusive" in one poorely-writen book. I know about Moonkitti video but you all know that she is not Bramblestar fan but it didn't mean that someone can have other sight on this char. I never was a Squirrelflight fan but after Moon's video I lost all good fellings to her.

1. Constantly talked down to Squirrel like she was a child
2. Threatened to revoke her deputyship if she didn't listen to him, even if she was doing what was right
3. Pulled the "Don't you love me?" card several times if she disagreed with him on anything
4. Got angry with her for saying Jayfeather, Hollyleaf, and Lionblaze were his and her kits rather than getting angry with Leafpool for breaking the code
5. Belittled her by essentially saying "I thought I knew you"
Even if you somehow don't see this as abuse, it's still very unhealthy, and wasn't confined just to Squirrelflight's super edition. And for most of it, he wasn't being possessed by Ashfur.

Leafpool is their biological mom and didn’t want anybody else to know, it wasn’t Squirrelflight’s decision. Understandable since she saw Brambleclaw train in hell with his father WHO EXECUTED A HALF-CLAN CAT. Brambleclaw never told his wife about that lol. Also Brambleclaw immediately cut his kids off once they were revealed to not be his and there is no justification for that.
@@imaginarylivingbody7154 That does NOT justify ANYTHING. Squirrelflight chose to lie to his face, she didn’t trust him enough to know the truth. But Brambleclaw put his full trust in her believing they were his kits and Squirrelflight never decided to be truthful about it. It is completely normal to be extremely upset at your partner for completely lying to you and making you believe you were the father of some kids. He loved the three but finding out the truth in such a harsh way did cause him to question things. Now that’s not right on him but I can understand it. Also, just because tigerstar was evil doesn’t mean brambleclaw is gonna be evil so it wouldn’t make sense to lie to him because she was scared he would try to kill the three. Also that was not even a reason mentioned in the book, that’s something you came up. If that were one of the reasons then the authors would’ve included it.
If you think it’s ok to lie to your partner and make them live a delusion then I think you should not get into any relationships because that ain’t ok.

Dude they are literally not real. His behavior towards Squirrelflight is unacceptable even if he rightfully mad at her for lying. It was Leafpool’s decision to hide it from everyone else in the first place, why should Squirrelflight betray her sister’s trust just to protect Brambleclaw’s feelings?

I think so, I’m only on Twilight of TNP but I’ve seen enough animations, and im sure Jaykit,Hollykit and Lionkit are Leafpool’s kits, but because Leafpool is a Medicine cat and can’t have kits she gave them to Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw

Both Brambleclaw and Squirrelstar are tittle tattles, however either of their actions were NOT justified. I strugge with choosing sides in their frequent arguements, as theyre both my favourite characters. But i find it stupid people use Moonkitti as a source to label Brambleclaw as 'abusive'. Putting him under that umbrella is neglecting the fact that she hid the secret about her kits from him. Its so strange people expect him to..suck it up? And say that Ashfur would be a better mate? No. He's possessive, as shown in the books following TBC..the whole ship dynamic is copy and pasted but ten times worse. One thing that really annoys me is Brambleclaws low communication. He starts tussles for absolutely no reason with her. But people say he was 'cheating' on her with Jesse, although it wasn't announced he and Squirrelstar were mates again until the very end of Bramblestars storm. It's better to explore the books for the mental abuse, instead of turning to RUclipsrs who are.. publicly loving and favouritising Squirrelstar; overall I love both of them, but they're both two dumb kitties.

I doubt you meant it to come off this way, but the song choice is perfect because although it's acting like she's the victim, truly it's not fair (and bordering on abusive) to make someone sleep on the couch for doing what you told them to. Neither of them are completely innocent
really though, in their relationship, squirrelflight is the victim. she does many things that have reasonably caused bramble to be angry with her, but most in most instances, bramble is acting out or manipulating her just to do it, which is abuse. squirrelflight isn't completely innocent, no, but she is a victim.
@@MartiniiYeah Admittedly i haven't read the books in a while, but from what I remember, I always saw it as a mutually abusive relationship. They're both victims, essentially, neither are innocent. They just shouldn't be together.

It's kind of sad, because the idea of the children of the first protagonist and first primary antagonist getting together had so much potential to be something great and meaningful instead of just... This. I hate what they did to Bramble in general, he SHOULD have told the message that the children of bad people can be good, but I honestly didn't end up with that impression...
@@vaughnhaney7020I’ve read all the main books, I’d personally say that their relationship wasn’t mutually abusive, but mutually toxic. I don’t really see the ‘Abuse’ but I definitely see that they would be happier as just friends.

Well, if people stopped and thought about it more, Squirrel was technically pressured by StarClan, who may I remind you are supposed to help the Clans (they are literally hypocrites in some areas), and then turned there backs and said: “Oh, you can’t enter StarClan because you broke the code,” like, what??
This is no hate towards you. I’m just giving some light on why. I understand why Bramble was mad, but that doesn’t really justify his behavior either and how he treats her later on down the line. But it’s fictional cats. It’s really up to you how you interpret the situation.

Also she’s a lot smarter and has clear characterization unlike Brambleclaw who once he became a warrior lost all of his characterization and spiraled into an antagonistic and poorly written character. Like all his characterization in the first arc was uprooted in the second arc in favor of more conflict making Brambleclaw significantly worst as a character in how he is written and who he is as he lost all morals and all his positive qualities. Bramblepaw was far superior to Brambleclaw in every single way and Brambleclaw just contradicted all of his first arc characterization and development.

@pot__420 Both are victims of miscommunication and their own opinions. Squirrel is very flaky and pushy on subjects that don't matter to the events currently happening, and Bramble can become tunnel vision when under much stress. It's the most normal marriage I have seen.
But many of the people who read the books have a warped perception of this kind of subject. They believe that women should be treated with the utmost respect while men are horrible in general. Men and women are both bad and good.

I am so sorry for probably making a argument but bramble was abusive, i think. Squirrel may have blackmailed him … when she was 13 and he was an adult , and so was ash. I mean the part where she accused hawk is kinds bad but also her sister/doctor/nun told her so i think. Also he led a uprising. Kinda bad? Breaking up not the best, kinda? Also he trained in kitty hell with a cat who killed like 8 cats. Who he apparently doesn’t wanna be like? Also he says squirrel is just saying that because of his father, which she denies. Imma be honest I’m still iffy but i’ve heard of people who have been in abusive relationship and them deny that bramble is the abuser, either because he isn’t OR it’s a different kind. It isn’t always obvious. Do i have to say one is abusive? I mean bramble in SH not the best from what i have heard. And ignoring her completely AND their adopted children. I hate Squirrelshit, and I love Bramblestar. Nobody will ever change my mind. The fandom has ruined Squirrelshit for me. Everyone demonizes Bramblestar when there are clearly WORSE characters to worry about.
I mean I hate him because I think he so badly written and fails to even do what he was first introduced for, a cat to be better than his father and who stands up against his father. He then just goes to train with his father in the Dark Forest even after he had that big talk in the first arc about not following and listening to him. He’s also just a complete jerk and has been ever since the second arc. He’s just so stupid and can be just so spineless. He lacks empathy, can be extremely selfish, abuses his power, and much more. He mistreats Squirrelflight and is downright abusive but I will admit Squirrelflight isn’t perfect and has wrong Bramblestar too. Brambleclaw is just a manipulative gremlin who gaslights others and is so controlling, petty, and horrible. He takes his insecurities over others and was always so power hungry that he took up the deputy position before even being appointed as cats were annoyed how he kept bossing other cats around.
I loved his character in the first arc but the second arc and after he’s just a horrible character and it’s not just because he as a character is an awful person/cat but he’s so badly written and objectively fails at his own characterization.

Also a lot of instances she isn’t even being annoying she’s just disagreeing with him and upholding her beliefs and morals. A lot of times she justifiably calls him out and he responds in his abusive and toxic ways. Like how he would rather frolic with a kittypet than even warn his clan about WindClan trespassing. She also gets upset when he put himself in danger to get a blanket and he just badmouths her to his new kittypet love interest. She can be harsh and abrasive and we hen she is in the wrong he goes even further and overreacts and escalates. Someone pushing you roughly but not with much force doesn’t mean you can overreact and escalate by punching them. If someone teases you, you don’t respond with screaming insults for 10 minutes.
@@mwokozi This is actually well thought out. Squirrel does have her flaws, but that doesn’t mean what Bramble is doing is justified. I like Bramble, but the way he’s being written now is disturbing.
