- An absolute classic interview with all four members of Echo & The Bunnymen in 1983 " I used to say we were a rock band just because people wanted me to say that we weren't a rock band, they wanted me to say that we were something more important, so I would just say we are a rock band. But I don't think we are anymore" (Ian McCulloch)

One of the few greatest bands of all time
It is ridiculous how far ahead of other bands, their time, whatever...Echo was and is. Having synesthesia, their music always spoke to me in colors. The album packaging on the first four contained images that transcended the medium and all of the limitations therein. "Porcupine" in particular vexed me and consumed my imagination for decades. As a matter of fact, in February of 2019 during the absolute dead of winter I finally went to Iceland to see the Gullfoss Falls. Did I insert my earbuds and press play on my MP3 player cued up to "The Cutter" at that moment? You bet! I have no words for the level of ecstasy and the degree of childlike, Christmas delight I felt at the time. It was as fantastic as it was ridiculous. Security was tight that day so I unfortunately never found nor stood in the exact spot where the cover photo was taken. It didn't matter. It was heaven up there. Thank you Ian, Will, Les, and Pete (RIP) for the timeless music and brilliant, singular artistry.
True fan spotted!! Gone to Gullfoss Falls? What a legend you are mate!! 🤜🤛
I did, thank you. Perhaps it's the 80's equivalent of strolling the crosswalk at Abbey Road? I hope you can put it on your bucket list and make it happen!
I absolutely adore these old interviews
SDSU, I think it was1981 or so... Pete de frietas kicking the crap out of his drums, and McCollum running around drinking beers placed all over the stage! Fucking brilliant for a southern California night! Best show i ever done seen!!!
Greatest band of all time, it's not even close.
aye they were one of my favourite bands ever. seen them in Newcastle, Liverpool & Glastonbury. Now enjoying Wills book making me feel old tho 😆
THE year for EATB, I miss you Pete!
I remember recording this on a Betamax
Wonderful footage! the band were those four individual people and I used to think there's something mystical here, but without Pete, sorry! my interest was lost..
I know what you mean, the sound changed once Pete was gone and that hard edge was lost. Macca was more interested in pop and being the new Scott Walker and I found them less and less compelling; I still bought each release for a few years more but stopped being impressed after the Eponymous and after Reverberation gave up completely. The stuff released over the years since has never had the same imagination and Macca's voice was shot. But that glorious couple of years of seeing them live under camo nets and the creative peak that is Heaven Up Here, still in my top 20 albums of all time.
Fantastic footage 😍
makes perfect sense:)
I think the Bunneymen at least for me evoke a message a bit like: I am both holy, ridiculous and beautiful.
Echo was a Greek god , and a Bunnyman sounds like something from Ken Dodd. Sublime and ridiculous.
Could see that Les went back to a normal life, but still tweets his mates.

The eighties.
@ 0.54 anyone know the ritual going on??
It’s not a ritual, just get four mates to stand around a person sat down, two put two fingers under the armpits and two put two fingers each under the knees. You all lift at the same time.
