Santiago is Chile's busiest airport and has an impressive array of spots for plane spotting. Spending a weekend here around the FIDAE airshow in April, I was able to accumulate a lot of footage of the normal planes operating on runway 17R (landings & takeoffs which is rare) along with military operations on runway 17L.
Chile was one of the airports I enjoyed filming at the most on my south American trip. Being right up close to the planes as they take off was a great experience. The spotting itself was nice and easy too, with parking being available right near the filming locations. Something I am learning is a privilege!

Ok...I looked at both planes like you said the only difference is winglets but both planes are cool looking with the #2 engine just make them look awesome and iconic like the queen of the skies with 4 engines and lets not forget about the L1011 Tristar 👍🏿👍🏿

I beluve saw you filming. I was on my way to the atc tower and passed the spotting location. I saw someone spotting. I now watched the DAP avro clip and remembered that i saw the same plane, same weather and same jets in the backround while i passed the people spotting it.

First aircraft 85-0029 is the last aircraft I was the dedicated crew chief on from 1996-1997. Prior to that, it was 86-0031 which I crewed from 1989. Jim Surles was the dedicated and I was his assistant until the aircraft moved to Travis AFB in 1994. Then I was the dedicated. I hate to see them retired, but with no spare parts and nothing to rob like the retired Stratotankers, what can they do.

Until 1972 almost all planes bar the extremely unpopular at that time airbus were tri jets or jets with three engines. When the oil price crisis hit in 1972 all of a sudden the 2 engine unpopular airbus became an instant hit as airlines wanted to save money. The 2 engine airbus coupled with the oil price crisis revolutionised air travel as today almost all jets have 2 engines except a few 747s and a380s but they’re on the way out too. You learn something every day
