    They just need to much machine work to work with anything with a bigger cam than stock. Just better off to get a set of aluminum heads I think

      That is a very fair point. I just think that even if I was to get a aluminum set of heads I’d still send those to the machine shop especially after seeing brand new castings come in and see botched up castings, bad guide and valve jobs and things like that.
      Not saying ever head is bad but I definitely won’t buy a complete set of heads and blindly toss them on something.
      Another think I considered too was the lack of availability of aluminum heads. So I like the thought of rebuilding a set of cast heads because you can still find them and just me personally it would probably cost a little less even with all the machine work just because I’d be sending any set I buy there.
      But again just because that’s how I think doesn’t mean that how someone else would. So I see your point. Thanks for the comment!

    Hey have a question. I'm working on a 97 GMC c1500 that has the 906 vortex head. My question is do I have to torque to yield them or can I get away with just torquing them down?

      I just torqued mine in three stages,
      1: 25 ft lb
      2: 45 ft lb
      3: 65ft lb
      If you watch the engine build video I did, I go into more detail.

    Do those vortec heads fit the 305 block? or they do not have the same features as the 350.

    • @BoneyardRevivals
      @BoneyardRevivals  Месяц назад

      I’ll be 100 percent honest and say that I don’t quite know.
      GM did make 305 Vortec specific heads. As far as the 062 and 906s (the 350 heads) I believe they would bolt up but I believe that the main difference between 305 heads and the 350 ones are that every thing is smaller on the 305s as in the chamber size intake runners and valves.
      I would imagine there could be some potential issues with valve and chamber to piston clearances. It would be interesting if anyone else has any info or experience on this, as I personally never have tried it.

    I just picked up some reconditioned 906 heads off a create motor someone took off to use aluminum heads, you think they’ll be okay as is or should I still take them to get upgraded? I’m scared of them cracking now lol

    • @BoneyardRevivals
      @BoneyardRevivals  4 месяца назад +1

      It’s never a bad idea to go get them magnafluxed to ensure there are no cracks. And if you want to spend up you’ll be happy with the results depending on how much you want to spend on upgrades.
      But if they came off a crate motor that didn’t have many miles, was never over heated, and they were reconditioned I’d personally send it. I am not telling you to do that but I’d personally throw them on and cross my fingers.
