That would be such a great rig. Love that front end/bed combo.
WOULD BE interesting to actually to see how similar it is to an actual Olds Rocket 350 from the 60s.
@@w41duvernay If I could track one down I definitely would. I’d love to get my hands on an Rocket 350
The Tahoe in the beginning can I have it please I’ll work for it or payments
It does have 9.5.1 compression lol
Headers power pack heads and a 4BBL all it needs
Those are not "botches" dude.... its aluminum being casted.... you see stuff like that on edelbrock also. Ive had the edelbrock recently.
Maybe, just MAYBE, you shouldn't put those gaskets on a painted surface, and you should have cleaned that paint from the intake gasket surface on the heads.
@@Shade_tree_garage01 I am pretty sure I said that at the end of the video.
While your in there try and check the big end bore of the rods I hear in high mileage engines they can get warped.
@@AC-bb1bb this engine will get completely blown down to a bare block and be completely redone.
You would be amazed what could be done with motors that look worse than that!
What is cooant
Me not knowing how to spell 🤣 Thanks for the heads up
I'm putting a 96 350 vortec in my 72 K20. I'd like to discontinue using the serpentine drive system. I see you put a basic water pump on your vortec. Did you have any issue with doin that?
I’ll be 100 percent honest the serpentine set up is far superior to the v belt but you can do it. You just need all the V belt accessories and the v belts. Also the TBI and Vortec single belt serpentine water pumps spin in the opposite direction than the V belt.
That cam is actually a 218/218 duration @.050. Very mild! the 106 LSA will give you a nice idle sound. Advertised duration is a useless specification.
@@turbodave231 you are absolutely correct. Advertised duration is just a big number that makes a cam look big. The LSA makes the cam a little odd for the application but it sounds awesome so that’s why I picked it. It’s is a really good combo, I just wish the truck had more rear gear. The 3.23s make the cam useless from 1500 to 3000 rpm but man this engine come to life from 3500-6000.
Ideal is 10% variable on compression test, block throttle open during test is best.....old school method
Rtv never let me down
What is the guestimation of $ involved in doin the work you had done in this video,, I got a set of vortec heads that I want to put on a small block but don't know if my budget can handle the cost of machine'n them,,
041 heads with 2.02 valves on my project 350.
What a great looking tractor. As an old farm boy, I’d be good with more tractors.
@@jannear8641 Awesome! We got another tractor revival coming soon!
Nice, I'm using e tec heads no used vortec heads that weren't cracked near me.
Put In a standard distributor.
Cats pajamas lmao
Your Dad's truck is a great looking truck, you should both be very proud of it.
Good looking truck your passenger as well. Love your content .
You have program the new crankshaft position sensor. Search RUclips on how to do it. Engine temp 158 then RPM above 3000 to 4000 based upon the size of the engine.
It turned out there were a few issues with it. The brand new cam position sensor was junk and it lost its ground to the coils. We have another video out on how we fixed it.
Did you have to do the re learn ?
How would this vs a air gap work on a truck for low to mid range torque? Do you have a preference for that application?
Personally I think the air gap intake would probably be better across the entire torque curve. But I don’t think it would be better by much in low end torque but I imagine you would start seeing the difference from 3,000 rpm up to 5,500. I have had this “high rise” intake on a pretty healthy small block and pushed it all the way to 6,200 rpm. It does the job for the price. But I would say the air gap style would arguably be better.
Damn i knew all these places looked familiar
Do you still have that 77 impala
@@AndrewAutoomp yep
@BoneyardRevivals where you located in how much
Not for sale
How long have you had this cart for? And how is it holding up? Any problems or parts breaking? Been looking into getting one especially for the price. Nice set up by the way.
I’ve had it for about a year and a half now. I don’t use it as a full mobile cart as much as someone in an auto shop would but I am super happy with it
I thought 3500 bored over 30 is a 383?
@@tavarisphillips8987 Nope a 383 can be 30 over but it has more to do with the crank than it does the bore size
Love my little 283. Fires up ever single time and it's always a thrill!
I can’t wait to get this engine together, I think she will be a good little engine for us!
I have the same truck just not a dump dually
What engine does it have
Take a pair of 1964 Chevrolet heads and make your own 2.02 slant plug heads.
Hows the brawler doin? Would you recommend it? I am thinking about the edlebrock avs2 but im open to other options
@@8luggarage I’d choose the Brawler hands down. If your not afraid to grab a screw driver and tune it, the Brawler in my opinion will far out preform the Edelbrock
Looks like you have a busy few months ahead of you
Haha you got that right!
Thank you
Love what you’re doing with this I have several square bodies too
Happy independence 🇺🇸 ❤🎉
While you're on vortec heads, I have a question. On my '98 Silverado and another truck, too, the #4 cylinder exhaust valve spring became weak and at higher rpms, (in drive at 70 mph) it developed a miss. when it came back down in OD, the miss would go away. My #4 exhaust spring was .040" short. The other truck actually had a broken spring. Is there a reason #4 cylinder ex. valve would have a problem. Is there a hot spot there? I noticed the crack was in the center of the head. I fixed mine with a used spring 3 years ago but, it missed again and #4 code came up again. I haven't had time to check it out, yet.
I'm just replacing my bumper s hocks it's hard to get the bumper back on
Looks like if it isn't broke; don't even mess with it
@@69mag well it’s definitely broke but she’s back in there and works good. Might upgrade to vintage air system in the future. Especially when she gets diesel swapped.
@@BoneyardRevivals I was thinking about changing mine out just cuz. Doesn't look like a good enough reason to go through all that.
@@69mag If it’s your first time I recommend lots and lots of patience. But I will warn you it’s not very fun. 🤣 I recommend having lots of liquid refreshments.
I’m doin the same rn with a rust bucket i appreciate this
Nice job. What was the magic break in oil you used? I'm in the middle of about the same build as you did. And yes, I'm nervous about the cam break in.
I believe we used Driven 10w-40 break in oil.
Dam show putting me to sleep that ain’t guud
There’s nothing like Wally’s sweet automotive technical knowledge talk to soothe you off to sleep. It better than a noise machine. 🤣
I'm 461X 1.94 from 1962 on my .060 over 283 and I do like the way they perform.
I know im not the only one that thought that sounded amazing from the back side 😂🥹 the sound of a success in the break in ☺️
Great video! Doing an intake manifold gasket on my 307 this weekend and it was good to see a clear view of the disassembly.
These are good heads with a lot of undeserved bad comments on their performance. All you have to look at is dyno comparisons at lower rpms and they produce very similar torque and hp numbers to some of the best old school hi perf smallblock. I had a 350 with a vortec roller cam, flat top pistons, 193 heads, headers, police injecter and a stage 2 chip. It passed m😊y state's emmisions and could do first and second gear burnouts. High rpms definitely produce more hp but your engine will have more wear and not last as long.
Do those vortec heads fit the 305 block? or they do not have the same features as the 350.
I’ll be 100 percent honest and say that I don’t quite know. GM did make 305 Vortec specific heads. As far as the 062 and 906s (the 350 heads) I believe they would bolt up but I believe that the main difference between 305 heads and the 350 ones are that every thing is smaller on the 305s as in the chamber size intake runners and valves. I would imagine there could be some potential issues with valve and chamber to piston clearances. It would be interesting if anyone else has any info or experience on this, as I personally never have tried it.
These heads are just what u want and need for heavy pickup trucks and pulling. High air flow numbers on other heads make a towing engine run worse than stock. I know from experience. U dont need high flow numbers for low rpm torque and towing. You never go pass 4500rpms anyway so these are what id use and are better than the 041/186 camel hump 64 cc chambers heads. And there actual cheap to buy as no one wants them. People are so concerned about high rpm and high hp and they dont mean nothing for trucks and pulling engines.
Also don't forget there's the 305 TBI heads too. I forget the casting numbers. They got the 1.840 intake valves and 56 or 58 cc chambers.
