Don't apologize for anything. The haters don't know shit and can honestly fuck off. Its your channel, you do you. 🏁
Thanks man, really appreciate that!
Hey brother, haters gonna hate. Water is too wet, sky is too blue. Something is always going to be wrong. Don't let them discourage you. I have been a machinist for 38 years now. Built a couple of engines over that time. Love your content. Keep doing what you do son💯👍👍
They definitely don’t discourage me. I just feel it’s necessary to explain myself for those who actually want to listen.
I would love to tell people where to shove it, however being disrespectful and insulting people is not what my brand represents. So instead, I politely remind everyone.
I appreciate your comment!
good show.Keep on Wrenchin cool😎👍
I dig that your generation still love the old stuff!! When I was a teenager I had a 64 Chevy Bel Air 2 Dr sedan and I took the original 283 out and bored it out to a 4.00 bore (301)and put 461 heads from a 327 and ran a Crane Comp cam with a .455 lift and I believe the duration was 232. Topped it off with a Weiand cross ram intake with 2 390 CFM Holley carbs and an M22 Muncie 4 speed. I could run it as a daily driver (barely) and raced it every Friday nite at Sears Point Raceway in Northern California. That little motor could spin up to 9000 rpm and never missed a beat! My buddy had also a 64 Impala Dual Quad 409 with a 4 speed and I always took him out on Friday nights! I never told him that it was only because he didn't know to to race it !! Good memories!
I wish you the best of luck with the 4-peice oil pan gasket.
@@shootermcgavin2819 hasn’t leaked yet… but I do prefer my one piece blocks.
Nice! Drive it till it breaks then fix it again! Don't pay attention to anyone that isn't doing the work or putting up the money. Do you!
Thanks! I appreciate that!
Love it! Sounds fantastic, too. Cheap fun is the most fun. Thanks for sharing.
Let the haters, hate. Great little cheap hot rod engine. Keep doing you , Brother!
At the circle paved race track i went to in the 60's, the hot setup in the late model class was to take a 283, and bore it out to 301 and it would run bulletproof fro the whole season.
Those Power Pack heads will keep your compression ratio right 👌🏻
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I LOVE EVERYTHING!!!!
283 is a great motor, too bad you couldn’t find a torker 2 cam 488/292 with intake to match, great combo, all you have to do is upgrade your springs on your heads, and if you know how to port your heads mold 80 grit finish, hope it works out for you
Reason it sounds nasty is because it’s flooding.
That should idle smooth
That’s crazy. It’s the baddest 283 I’ve ever heard.
I think the floats being too high was making the cylinders be a bit flooded with fuel. That’s why it didn’t rev up as cleanly as you’d expect. Choking on fuel from the float height
That was part of the issue, I think the other issue is jets. This 600 came off of a 350 SBC before I had it. But once we get it in a project vehicle we’ll get it dialed in. I also have no idea what size squirter is in it which could add to the over fueling issue.
On your 283 distributor, I’d replace the spark module and the vacuum advance. Just to be safe, and headache free. You may have to upgrade that carb up to a 650 Holley. You also might want to upgrade the oil pump to a high volume oil pump, just to prevent starvation. Now you’ve got my juices flowing wanting to build a project toy car. Thank you.
Like I said in the video, this engine is going to be redone at some point. I really want to put some work into these heads and put a bigger cam in it at some point. But I am happy with it and how much I have invested into it. I just want to drop it in something now!
@@BoneyardRevivals I get it. I’ve been there, and done that. The way you have it right now, with the 350 cam in it, it sounds good as she sits. With a 700R4 trans backing up the motor, she’ll squawk the tires. Some duals with cherry bombs will really make her sound badass. If you got an S-10 sitting around, that’ll make a nice toy to drive. That’s what I’m wanting to build, and maybe make it a hard-top convertible while I’m at it, along with a kick-ass sound system.
Horsepower potential aside , ya still gotta love 'em for their simplicity and reliability . They just keep goin' .
I really like this engine and especially the valve covers
GREAT VIDEO AND EDUCATION. THANKS FOR SHARING!!!
I LOVE OLD SCHOOL HOT RODS!!!!
You can still drill and tap the crank your self I think it's 5/8 x 24 but check I that out I have done builds similar , use Hastings rings king bearings ,and the 1 peace pan gasket and a purple (60lb) oil pump spring and your good to go ...enjoy .....by the way I have having cam and lifted issues lately wiping out can lobes lost 2 this summer have fun ,I enjoy your content
Thanks for the tips!
I’m in the middle of a similar build and would be interested in a follow up video when you’ve got it installed in a vehicle . In particular, I’d like to see what front accessory bracket you’re going to use for the power steering pump. Thanks for sharing
Done many 283 put 305 heads and small cam with tight LSAc run awsome on street a lot of fun
Don't worry about the know it alls, it's your build and your budget.
Dude to me you built it!!!
Nice work man!
Glad you like it!
Those 283's are bullet proof! Give it a hit with some degreaser and shoot some Chevy orange on it. What the heck...another 10 bucks for a can of paint won't kill the budget! And it will look pretty! LOL!
The $10 wouldn’t have killed the budget, but I also didn’t feel like painting it this time around. When she comes back out for some upgrades sell get some more love
biggest mistake on a small displacement engine is putting in a cam that is too big. Unless it's going into a light car with manual shift, better heads and 3:55 or deeper gears,..a bigger cam will make performance worse. The best cam for a 283 is what it came with 195/200@50. The TBI cam will be ok-ish and run but the better choice would have been the original cam. No criticizing,..just saying. I've made the same mistake myself. Great video. Keep wrenching and keep learning. The old engines are fun to work on.
This is going in a car with a 2000 “ish’ stall and 4:11s so I think it will do pretty well once I get it tuned right.
@@BoneyardRevivals Then you should be fine. A bonus you'll have is 283s short stroke really likes RPM. They just to come alive at 2500 rpm. Small diameter long tube headers work the best on those small engines (to increase velocity) You'll like how it howls at high rpm 🙂 I enjoy your channel! Great video quality and content! I appreciate anyone who still works on old school. Thanks for sharing your work and enjoy the build!!
even a 283 can sound good
You forgot to add the $50 of shipping on your rock auto order. Lol. Nice job, looking forward to seeing it in a project, I'm just salty over how ridiculous rock autos shipping fees are.
Damn you got me on that $50 🤣🤣🤣 And we should be salty. That stuff is getting rough and I am tired of dropping and adding different parts to my cart just to try to get them shipped from the same place.
What cam your loading it up timing is out sounds nasty but it not tune it.
Good job bud
@@bradedwards7468 Thanks man! Hope you and the family are well!
Why no true roller time chain for dependability reasons wasn't that the cause of it not running properly in the first place !
You realize the timing chain we put on it in this video was the cast one WITHOUT the nylon coated teeth. The original one that failed had the Nylon coating that failed!
350 cam is a 283 is perfect. Tuned property if motor is not wore out will make 225 hp. Have multiple dynos to prove.
Didn't you say those 283 heads went in to have them gone through? Guess the machine shop didn't clean them?
No I said I was originally was going to have the machine shop go through them but I ended up not sending them. They went back in the engine untouched.
@@BoneyardRevivals thanks for answering.
Dude holly MOLLY what type of cam do you have in that thang whats the name of it
No idea. All I know is that it’s a 350 TBI cam. There is no brand casting on it.
I've been wondering if the 283 can be stroked to a 307 with a " 327 " crank ? A chevy crank that is
.
Yes
Yes, but you'll need 307 pistons as well, and the crankshaft has to be from a small journal 327 (1962-67).
I'd take the 283 any day over the 350
You wouldn’t happen to have those cam specs would ya 😜🤔
Unfortunately I don’t. All I know is what I said about it in the video. They guy I bought the 350 off of that this cam was in supposedly had the cam card but lost it.
please use a real intake gasket...they are cheap too
Is'nt running right with that TBI cam. Awfull rough
Those who think they know it all are particularly annoying to those of us who do! Put that in your pipe and smoke it. HAA HAA HAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DONT USE MY GODS NAME IN VAIN
@@jeffcochran7721 Sorry to offend Jeff. I hope you have a blessed day.
Does this mean he's grounded?
