- This line has become known for releasing a ton of Goku figures using mostly the same parts. It makes sense to focus on the main character and to recoup costs by reusing molds but are there too many? Will this one be good enough to get fans to buy yet another?

I like his colors in the original anime where it's almost red with the black instead of blue, and his clothes in GT. I also REALLY love when Goku has casual clothing like his jacket and i'm sad we don't have a Goku figure in casual clothing.
While the red and black does look cool, it was always incorrect due to the colors not coming through as well on more poor quality video transfers. The original animation cels show it was always supposed to be blue and orange. The Dragon Box DVD releases show the correct colors more than any other home video release. I like the red and black look too, so I was shocked to find out that they looked like that only because of the video transfer and was unintended. lol
@@BrandonNielsen87 that one yeah, but he's had different casual looks too wether it be in the anime/manga or just official artwork, it'd be nice to see even one of them represented in an action figure and not just a statue. Although the one you mention from the Cell saga would probably be the one a company would go for.
I’d like to see a Yardrat Goku figuarts made in the future, that’d be pretty cool. And make sure to include the SS head.

In my opinion an action figure needs to feel almost as it's real and jump out the page,screen etc. So The More Paint The Better Since It Helps Bring The Illusion That The Character Is The Figure

I have no issues with Bandai using molded colors, but I do need shading and a flat coat on my figures! it brings out the detail and gives them so much presence in my display.
As for Goku's gi color, I gotta go with the orange.
i like that this figure is mostly based on the manga colors which is what the movie is now going for with how the characters look now
I tend to prefer Goku’s gi in a more reddish orange, with them progressively getting lighter as he transforms.
My issue with this figure (and it seems all the Super Hero Saiyans) is that they’ve chosen to go with this much lighter skin tone, meaning swapping heads does not look anywhere near as seamless as it has on past releases. I’ll probably take this Goku, swap the belt with a sash, and try to remove the kanji so I can use this as a Buu-arc Ultimate Gohan with that figure’s upcoming head.
Yeah, the skin tone is really disappointing. More so with Vegeta since this is the only cheaper version of him and I was really hoping to put the SSJ/SSG etc DF heads I have on different copies without it looking so off.

Only enough paint is best. If there's too much paint I feel more nervous posing them and having it rub/scratch off.
I think if somehow now is the time youre getting into SH Figuarts or are selling most of your figures and only want to keep ones you truly like/think are essential or if youre keeping 1 fig per character, this is probably the best base goku non exclusive cheap and widely available version to get because of just how the faces look and colors.

I see Bandai is still milking the same Goku mold over and over again. At least the faces keep getting more expressive, so that's nice.

Saiyan raised on Earth is still the best Goku, the faces here are good, but the other one is the better package

Q1 - I like the orange from this new figure and the Broly movie SSGSS Goku.
Q2 - I'd say no bit shading for me.

I feel adding paint to the figuarts makes them look great and more valuable
the Full Power Goku from Vietnam factories I got had the same looseless problem with that same leg. This is either due to the mold getting old or them using cheaper materials to cut costs(which is what they are doing and why the figures have been able to remain the same cost). SROE remains the definitive base Goku because of this IMO.
the inexpensive ones are inexpensive because they are almost entirely repaints and are used to try to get people invested in the line. there has been no noticeable drop in material quality.
The lower shading is on lower legs is because on a fighter the gee gets dirty near to the ground bro , abs n arm pit area would be because of presperation , makes sense. I’m a martial artist so , it makes perfect sense.

NIce, been waiting for this review. My favorite orange id probably the SSGSS Broly Movie Goku. Imo paint should be one of the things companies prioritize. Even a little bid of shading goes a long way.
Shading done well. More so so I don't have to do it.

Nice review Anthony. My favorite gi color for Goku is probably the orange on the SSB Goku from DBS: Broly. Paint, shading, and detail are very important for figures. Solid sculpt, consistent paint, and shading to bring out details will always add to a figure's quality.
I have nothing against Goku or Dragonball, but I feel like S.H. Figuarts should cover more characters instead of remaking a bunch of Dragonball characters. I get DB is popular, but making figures for more franchises would pull in a lot more customers.
Picked this one up today, eager to unbox and compare qc. I reallllly hope they give us a yard rat goku in the line. To me that’s the flyest version of goku fashion wise and would look great on the shelf.

GT's blue and yellow look has always been my favorite. I can't stand Goku but I would buy an adult GT Goku in a heartbeat.
Is it just me or does this one look more bulky in the arms compared to the Saiyan Raised on Earth figure?
i dont remember which arms that one had but these are the arms from the ssj3 goku which have been used a lot lately. unless theyre a new mold which is just similar to the ssj3 but i suspect theyre the same.

I personally prefer the lighter color on the super hero figure but I really wish there were more super saiyan head sculpts that fit the skin tone of the figure
They've mastered the faces for this line, now they just gotta work on the bodies to look more accurate. Goku was always jacked as fuh with big shoulders and neck. They nailed the new Gohan, and the ss4 goku, but we don't have a show accurate Goku, vegeta or piccolo.

Question for ya, if they were to redesign say DBZ Broly with a new mould, would you give him the moulds that Broly Super has? Like update the torso and shoulders?
Also for your question; Simplicity sells for me, I'll take the paint in the creases n' joints, just to try and help the figure and detail pop out a bit more

I was at supanova in Sydney this past weekend and I got super hero piccolo and dragon ball gt ss4 son goku. Was nice to find them for retail price, my other figures I had to over pay on ebay lol

Yardrat outfit for Goku all day, my favorite clothing for him. As for color variants, the darker red looking one from the raditz fight.

7:43 just discovered the SS4 Goku, Superhero Gohn and DBS Broly all have dumbbell bar neck joints. Came here to see if Goku had it too but it's definitely something to replace immediately.
Paint is always better. Painting and shading are what make it a “finished product”. If I wanted bare plastic I’d buy the model kits. You always say it, these are the premium figures which we pay the premium prices for. A modicum of paint is necessary and especially for the figures low in accessories or overall size. It feels like a no brainer to me. It also depends on the price point I guess, I’m more lenient on the $30 ones but the roughly $60 and above feel like a gut punch when they’re bare plastic and no accessories
On another note, the butterfly being skin colored is wild because on the Super saiyan god one it’s orange? At least on the event exclusive one I have
The same leg issue happened with my new Goku figure. The leg was loose and it kept falling off.
I'm happy to replace my Saiyan Raised on Earth Goku with this one for both the brighter orange and the faces. I won't praise the mold for being anything new or revolutionary, and the shading's unfortunate; but it does what I want more than the last release of base Goku did. Thanks for the review!
Anthony, Anthony, and tony! Love the review, like always! As for the question i think you said it the best, i want paintwork on my figures especially on wrinkles in clothing, shading around musculatures and i know it maybe be difficult but i’d love to see some dirt on figures or bruising on body parts! That being said over painting a figure can look awful especially with sloppy applications so i definitely agree that paint should be done right but it is a must.

Agree that double ball peg ankles aren't ideal. As another example, the engineering on VTOYS's Body Zero is outstanding overall but the range on the ankles is a standout "weakness" because the double ball peg ankles don't tilt as well as, say, Sentinel's Spider-Man or even just Classified's first Snake Eyes. They're fine for the majority of poses but don't cut it for those that need Spidey or Catwoman-levels of ankle flexibility - and as someone who uses the Figure Zero for gesture drawing, that becomes a nuisance more than I'd like. Goku here is convincing me even more that double ball peg ankles, like neck disc hinges, should be filed under "Fine But Soon To Be Obsolete."
It depends with the paint. Things like the Gundam Universe line I don't mind as much because they overall cover their bases well and they all look pretty solid for it. But for something like the Lightning Collection, I want more paint cuz things like morphers and otherwise SHOULD be properly painted. That kinda missing paint can really drop the quality of the product.
gundams dont need shadow because theyre robots with sharp angles

I have to say, the hinge ball peg combo while weird still works. Although it takes a small modification, once you snip that little piece of plastic that stops the hinge from moving all the way forward the joint works really well. I've done this mod to all my Goku figures that have this articulation for the torso and it give them really good range.
So you ruined their value in other words
@@TheNaturalGamer1 I guess? But the value for me is how much enjoyment I get out of the figures I purchase. Secondly once the figure is taken out of the box they loose value regardless. So may as well mod them to maximize the range of articulation

I like goku's outfit on rhe saiyan raised on earth fivure but without the logo like in the androids saga. The almost navy blue with the nicley saturated orange looks so appealing to me

I prefer the golden yellow color for Goku's gi. That's how Toriyama always colored his gis. It's based on the color of Buddhist monks. The nuclear highlighter orange is gross. Second question: I'd rather not have any shading on the figures. It's not really necessary as the shading comes from light as they're three dimensional objects. I have the figure and I don't really see the complaints about the shading on this. It's not that heavy and looks nice to me. I just wish it were also applied to the back of the figure. I'd probably bump this up to a 7.5 or even an 8 just for the faceplates and better skin tone alone.

I prefer colored plastic with details and light shading, just to emphasize the details. Also, the Super Hero figures are $35. Thats $10 more than Marvel Legends

Wow I can feel the hate lol I personally love this figures color scheme and yes I do still think the orange shades should have been done with more effort all around the figure as a whole and I personally love the faded blackish grey and white coloring
This mold of Goku needs to be 3.0. I was never a fan of the shoulder. SHF needs to do a cup floating piece. For the inner shirt. If y'all know what I mean.
Great review again! Also I’m all about the PAINT as well. As one who grew up on dollar toys figures In the 80s and 90s I can imagine the paint job. Although as one of the lucky ones to get this in the early stages of preorders. I was particularly excited because it looked liked him, as well as the others were on slightly newer and better articulated molds. Since it’s the same Goku I’m happy to pass on him. I’m finding S.H. are making the characters we’ve wanted, but aren’t making them to the best of quality. So far Krillin has been the only figure I’ve liked and kept. I’m hoping they learn from the promising Naruto Shippuden line. Something we as fans have been wanting and hoping it expands.

I like this figure cause in my country, India, there's not a lot of options for Figures but this one is available.

If you notice they have literally everyone an updated sculpt except goku. Even piccolo got more original parts and all that’s different are the boots and the upper torso and up, this is very low sh figuarts
the same leg on mine was super loose to man i just stuck the piece of plastic in the ball joint that came between the waist and torso

It’s not weird shading. It’s Chi-chi’s fault. Those are arm pit stains and the logos aren’t black because she didn’t use color safe bleach lol.
Is it possible to remover the shading with something like nail polish remover or will it damage the figure?
