Lookit now, I take some issue with the arguing over one "best" rendition (do you ever hear musicians talking about a song that way? Nah.) The astonished comments below point to the fact that these crazed German Irishfolk, by putting some real fight into The Boxer, have hit upon something crucial, and that's why some of us -- doesn't have to be *all* of us -- are excited to hear it. What this bizarre band give us takes nothing from the original nor the other fine covers (e.g. Jerry Douglas brings us something important with his dobro, and Emmylou Harris with her voice; these two are my favourites, but the point is it's a well-covered song.) Now everybody who hasn't already left the pub, buy each other a drink. The first day you hear this version of The Boxer, it's got to be some kind of holiday.

Now that's a cover I never thought I'd see. And it does what I reckon a good cover should do: take the original, and bring in something new and better to it. In terms of elevation, it's right up there with what the Headstones did with "Tweeter and the Monkey Man" so far as I'm concerned: one of the best covers I've yet to see.

It's a beautiful song. These boys have put there own spin on it. Is it better than s&g no. Is it worse no different? Yes. Beautiful all the same
