Love mince pies with a nice brew on cold days. :)
Morrison's bakery shallow shortcrust mince pies. Our choice every year. Must try.
My fave mince pies are the ones with the icing on the top from Morrisons.
I love Mince Pies but only eat them at Christmas. I also make my own. Then I know whats in them. I make the fillings months ahead so it's ready to use. Great video.
I make my own Mince Pies too, with the additional ingredients of Cinnamon in powder form, plus Brandy.
I remember my mum making mince pies for Christmas when I was a kid. The filling would always burst out and bake hard (burn) onto the baking tray. I'd say "Are they supposed to be like that?" and she'd always just say "Yes" 😀
Soak them in brandy..... it doesn't matter where you buy them from
If we are being honest, some people would prefer the sweeter taste and some others wouldn’t. But as someone commented, you can’t beat home made mince pies. My dear departed old mam used to make some lovely mince pies and Christmas cake. Good video 👍
I prefer the Aldi ones, can't go wrong at 21p per pie. Holly Lane is actually the address of the main distribution hub in Atherstone, North Warwickshire
The all butter Aldi ones with the snowflakes on them are the best supermarket ones. Local farm shop sells homemade ones and they are far superior to any others ive had. 👍
Thank you Gareth for this lovely vlog I prefer my own homemade mince pies hope you and family are all well keep up the good work best wishes Sheila and family
When you put your glasses on, I could see it better 😂
well obviously . . . Derrrrr! 👩🏻🦳 (Blond joke 😂)
Sainsburys puff pastry mince pies are very good. 😋
I used to love Mince pies but I can't eat them anymore, love watching your videos xx
Cheers Nicola 👌
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Mince Pies. A tasty treat and they herald "Christmas is Coming". Yay.
Hi Gareth, I do love Mince pies, I'm off to Tesco and Lidl I'll give them a go. I do like mice pies with clotted cream or brandy sauce but most of the time, just out of the box. Catch you soon Take care
You've built a great channel and community.. refreshing to see a comments thread without idiots
I am not a mince pie lover and only ever eat one a year, a kind of tradition with me. I've had my yearly mince pie a luxury Mr Kipling one think it was £1.49 for four, disgusting worst mince pie I've ever had, I've had Aldi mince pies before they were better, though I still didn't like them but that's me a mince pie hater just torture myself eating one once a year. Keep up the good work Gareth and you and your family have a merry Christmas and a happy New year. Best wishes from Scotland 🏴
Thanks Bob, all the best mate 👍 👌
Your comparisons are my favorite uploads on your channel. Thanks, Gaz.
@@susipaterson8185 you're welcome
Fab review!
I'd like to see a comparison of the icing topped ones. Aldi vs Tesco vs Mr Kipling?
Great review Gaz as always it’s hard to choose between them but the sweeter the better 👍👍
Love them around Christmas time the Iceland Specials are the best a bit dearer but worth it
My grandma and nan made the best as they used a tad of suet in their mix!
I hope I’m able to locate some mince pies in Japan this Christmas 🎄 🎉
I do like a MnS mince pie Gaz pricey but tasty!
You need a bit of crème fresh, or double cream or custard with those bad boys!
They are lovely but yes seasonal , I believe that Morrison's best range are superb but that only my view ...
Can't beat your own home made ones....❤
Absolutely 💯
I concur so when you posting them out to me?! 😂
@@Jan-j1b home made is much better, even with the cheapest ready made pastry and mincemeat. Far less sweeter than shop bought.
You’ve not eaten my pastry. 😀
@davidspear9790 the shop bought ones are just sugar held together with palm oil and preservatives. I make unsweetened pastry, rolled thin and crispy, mince meat with added grated carrot and brandy. The best.
I've been eating the ones from Spar. Very nice!
Ty, you always make me laugh! The image of you grinning with your Santa hat & specs on will be etched in my head all day now 🤣😂 How about a comparison of the same pies, one cooked in the microwave, the other in the oven? I find microwaving them makes them a bit soggy & claggy. Or maybe compare different festive creams or brandy butters?
@@clairespinks2953 haha 😄 😆
Festive comparisons Gaz spot on ,ding dong merrily on high ✨️🐖🥓😋
@timcrook2231 all the best Tim 👍
Afternoon Gareth thank you for the vlog on the mince pies great one as always, always enjoy your vlogs. I bought Waitrose Puff pastry mince pies and feel they are the best I have had so far (warmed up). Prefer my puff pastry pies rather than the shortcrust, may be worth a trial. sue
@susandavis4821 thank you 😊
Great video Gareth thanks for sharing 👍. Congratulations on your Movember fundraising. 🎉
I'd have thought that the microwave might make the pastry go a little soggy
Well, I too am partial to a mince pie. Having seen off a box from Tesco, I am now partially through a box from Sainsburys. But when it comes to getting a batch of mince pies for over Christmas we will default to the ones from Greggs.
Love a good mince pie 😋 Gareth, I do hope you put the others in an airtight container afterwards, as it says so in the storage instructions (just like they were in the airtight cardboard boxes before you opened them) 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
6 mince pies for £1.25 or 20p more. 6 Mince Pies! I've tried a few homemade ones. Find the pastry's always rather too thick and dulls the mince filling. Just like Goldie Locks, I find supermarket mince pies just right, especially with a nifty after dinner brandy. Love your channel 🙂👍
I admit I'm not a lover of mince pies due to pastry.
My mum and nan used to make their own. Personally I wouldn't bother.
To be honest they all taste the same to me. I only buy them because it's traditional. I usually have mine with creamy custard.
I love your channel but this got me smiling straight away .Thanks
You're welcome
Great video again Gaz, you can't beat a good mince pie only Christmas cake 😂😆 🫶xx
Ta ma xxxx
Great review once again Gareth. Love a good mince pie with a cuppa
Would love to see a homemade /artisan experiment. Cant beat them.
I do enjoy a mince pie, thanks for another honest review 💜💜💜
You’re welcome 😊
Hi Gareth, there is a Booths at Ulverston how about a trip there? They have Bells "old fashioned" style flat mince pies which I like and which are a sensible price.
Will do mate cheers
Once wentto Booths in Kirby Lonsdale on holiday found it pricey and ready meals we bought were poor.
Great video, I love mince pies. I would be very interested in the comparison of m & s v aldi luxury ones. Regards Norm
Noted! Thank you
I like mine warm with vanilla ice cream.
I'm not a big Greggs fan but I find that their mince pies are far better than supermarket ones
Santa said he wants his mince pies and the hat back Gareth!
Good review, ho, ho, ho!
Green giant sweetcorn, why was he not yellow? 🌽🧐
@@Rowan-d2y haha 😄
Gareth, can you do a Review of Aldi's Turkey Pork Stuffing Rolls. The quantity is worth a review on its own !
You have to check the best before date on what i consider Christmas food, I have found ones in my local Lidl that expire before the big day.
Aldi are the best won last few years I love them😊
I make my own Mince Pies using additional ingredients ie Cinnamon, plus Brandy.
Never was one for mince pies, but recently i tried one, got the taste for them, now eat one then finish the rest of the box, have only tried the Aldi, holly lane, yes are crumbly and soft pastry, sweet, but prefer them cold. I want a mince pie now, and not got any in my cupboard 😂😂😂😂😂
I was shocked to find out that a box of mince pies can have up to 1500 calories (250 each) - which is your daily target....
@garyhunt4342 Hi, I've never looked how many calories are in each one, but after seeing your reply, omg, I'll stick to eating 2 per day, and not the rest of them.250 in each one, cholesterol will be sky high.glad you replied.Thanks.
You should heat up in the air fryer for a few minutes. The pastry will be crispy and not soggy like heating in the microwave
Have you tried to Air-Fry a fart?
Ho ho good one Gareth, have you tried anybody's puff pastry mince pies? 👍😊
God bless the specs! Same as me I am blind as a bat.
I use Iceland's Home delivery a Lot(but not to Buy Frozen Stuff), because you can quite often get same day delivery for £2, as long a you spend £40, but min buy is £25, so costs more to deliver. I do like a Mince Pie, 30sec in M/W with a sprinkle of Brown sugar, & Thick Cream on top .
I tried that and they only delivered 2/3 of my shopping. When I phoned the manager he called me a liar!!!
I really do wish you'd put the prices in the description. I always miss it during the video and end up having to go look at the stores websites to find it. It would also be useful when, in the future, we want to quickly look at price inflation without scrolling through a video to try find prices.
Mr. Kipling Mince Pies are my favourite.
I love a eccles😊
Only eat Iceland one but there next range up slightly dearer
I make my own but I’ll quite happily eat a shop bought. But I do remember buying some from Waitrose, Heston Blumenthal’s….they were truly awful. I took them back for a refund. You don’t always get what you pay for. Good review 🇬🇧
Greg's box of six flat ones are decent
Tesco Finest are very nice if expensive 😎👍
Great comparison Gaz.
Thanks
For years I've prefered the Aldi mince pies over all the other supermarket offerings, but sadly this year they didn't really seem to taste the same. However the Aldi mince pies with icing topping were quite nice.
My local Aldi didn't have the red boxed mince pies they were sold out so I hadto get the premium onse for £1.99 a box haven't tried them yet though :)
And no food fight Or worrying about the ROPs that you know are coming .Garth
Quite like mince pies, don't bother heating them up, nice with some whipped cream 👍
I have to say that I've never had mince pies that compare to the ones from Costco. They're 9 for 7.99 (from memory) and they are more of a cake on the top with a pastry base and mincemeat filling, dusted with powdered sugar. Absolutely to die for with custard on 🤤I'm glad you mentioned the peel in the Iceland versions, I can avoid them as I can't stand peel.
@@Nite-owl They are addictive.
@@Teapot333 Costco? Indeed they are. I whack em in the microwave for 45 seconds then bury it under mountains of custard. That's when I allow myself to eat them. As a diabetic, that's not often.
@Nite-owl I was given tray of 9. They only lasted until the next day 😂
@@Teapot333 😂They're very "more-ish" ☺
@@Nite-owl Definitely. My new favourites after home made
I like a mince pie on the odd occasion, but not something I eat often. I like the Asda in store baked ones......
T'how do spot on! Ah thee Ole mince pies do leave thee feeling parched after a full box , some of them are caked in too much flower but home made are the best, my grandma used make them every Xmas. I remember last year Aldi ones if folk wait till the Xmas week or after they reduced them to 25p per box that's best time but them in my opinion 👌🏻
Hi Gaz Have you tried the puff pastry mince pies from Aldi? My husband and I have and they are quite nice, they remind me of the hot festive pies that McDonald's used to do.
I bought a pack of the Apple Crumble Topped mince pies from Aldi on the weekend, they're nice and something different, nice with some Greek yogurt
Morrisons deep fill short crust mince pies are awesome, lovely 👌i like the ones with icing on top too.
Interesting review my favourite mince pie this year has been the crumble top from Tesco cost u 3 .50
I eat cold mince pies with blue cheese. Just think chutney in pastry!
Try the ALDI Ballycastle mince pies mmmmmm 👍
Aldi's mince pies are good but suffered from shrinkage a few years ago, they used to be proper deep filled, still good though. Best mince pie by far has to be the black forest mince pie, downside is i cannot find anywhere that are selling them this year
I like mine warm with some custard or vanilla ice cream
Greggs are the best x
My wife and I absolutely love your channel and never miss an upload - but - (not your fault at all) mince pies are minging! Lol
Test iced mince pies. Aldi and kipling do them. Not sure who else
One a year is plenty for me, but as I have got older I do prefer a little less sugar in these type of things. Peaking of Iceland I had one of their Lamb Kebabs last night in a wrap only this one had most of the chilli in it, I was on fire, it was crazy hot.
I really like the iceland ones this year, last year it was aldis, Aldis this year seem to have lessfilling of a way more sugary plainer.filling than last year.
Fantastic mince pie review Bald Foodie Guy 💯👌🙌😋🎄
@@uglenddalejones2 thanks Glenda
Feel sorry for father christmas because he won't get mince pie's this year it's stollen! And he looked at the grey sky, and then looked at his wife and said it looks like rain-deer!
Great video 👍
Hiya Gareth, as I've gotten older and retired from professional cooking. I still make our Mince Pies and Sausage Rolls. You can find some really good ones from the supermarkets, A local bakery will offer the next best to homemade. My other gripe. Sell by dates. Having seen some factory made ones in the shops from early October 😢😢!!! With the sell by date of late November or early December. Another customer rip off 😢Can't understand why we don't make them all year round? Must be the season for tooth rot 😱😱👎👎🦷that makes me feel festive Allan&Family
Cheers mate 👍
I'd like to see a M&S vs Waitrose Luxury minced pie comparison!
Cheers 👌
Okay Boycie 😂
Gregg's or Cafe Nero. Delicious
Earlier in the 20th century round about Victorian times , the pies contained real minced meat 🥩.But unfortunately I dislike mince pies but maybe with meat might be better 🤔🥧👎.So I only person who likes them is my Husband 🥧Great review & for sharing Gareth 🎅🎄
xmas pudding would be good. cheers
Claggy that is a word i’ve never heard used here in NZ . But such a good description. Is it just a north of England word?
Lidl deluxe range Gaz 🥰
Nice one mate
I love mince pies but will admit I would rather have them cold. :)
Bought the jar of sweet fruit mince and making a large puff pastry mince tart, to share with friends.❤
If mince pies were so great wouldn't we be eating them all year round?
And then there's Xmas pud🤔
Crimbo puddings next
It takes mè 40 mins plus to get to Iceland and then ive gotta get home but Aldi is only 20mins return trip, so where do i go Aldi everytime
Great video I love aldi mice pies hope you and your family are well
Couldn't focus on the mince pies, with your mince pies Gaz ! 🤣
Haha no 🤣🤣
Good vid 👍
