Thank you for the helpful information though you've already had a cool video with a great guy from Carver. The best system for a surfscate ever, I've got old and new painted one. The new one is a masterpiece. I've tried different systems including YOW Meraki and Smoothstar. I've also tried different decks. Personally prefer the Poke from Loaded for tight curves or very flexible bamboo or birchtree decks from pintail or dancing completes.
Your the best! Thanks to your reviews in many other videos i decided to go for the Carver Triton! Just arrived, unpacked it, loosend the trucks a little and had my first ride on a surfskate board ever. Had so much fun trying to pump and i was surprised how natural it felt. I only have experience from my 22" penny board! Awesome. Cant wait to go out again! Thanks for everthing yout doing! So helpful
You normally dont want to compensate for bushing stiffness with tightening of nut. Maybe 1-2 rotation makes sense but what I do is to tighten the nut such that you cant rotate the washer anymore by hand and then put like 1-2 rotations. More and I guess you are wearing out your bushing fast and the proper thing to do is to buy a stiffer one. Also youa re getting different feel of it. I guess that deck size / shape also matters regarding bushing stiffness. I have Carver Triton and with default bushings it was quite stiff for me but this deck is quite narrow. I changed the bushings but I think different deck could feel OK for the standard bushings.
I just bought my first surf skate and went with a Carver CX (with the correct wheel base) based on your recommendations. I was also able to get pumping in 10 minutes because of your videos. Thanks
Such a great video. Thanks for putting it together, Steve. A couple follow-up questions: First, I weigh around 150, so it sounds like the 85a bushings are what I should put on my board, yeah? Second, should those bushings *only* be in the front while something firmer is in the back? Or could the 85a work for both? Thanks!
Steve will probably disagree with me, but that’s fine because it shows that there’s room for personal preference and experimentation … I weigh 180 lbs and like the Carver brand green glow 81A (which looks yellow to me) bushings on the front … on the rear, you can keep the stock Carver rear bushings or try slightly softer ones. I think it’s worth it to try different duro bushings because there’s probably one of which will be your favorite and you’ll have the most fun on it. So order Riptides from Steve and order a Carver one and I’ve also tried Orangatang bushings.
I would say you should experiment with it. There's no right or wrong answer, it's just personal preference. But you will feel a very big difference going from stock Carver bushings to either 87.5a or 85a.
