Good video! Technically, when you put bearings in using the truck to press the bearing into the wheel, it is putting some side load onto the bearing because all the force is being pushed in the small inner bearing race which you don't want. The best way is to actually just use a wrench socket or bearing press thats the same diameter as the outer bearing ring, set it evenly on the bearing, and gently tap the socket with a hammer to press in the bearing. Doing it this way puts zero sideways load on the bearing and is always the recommended way by professionals. On a skateboard, as long as it's not taking a huge amount of force to press the bearing in the wheel, it's probably a not a big deal using the truck to press in the bearing, but using a socket on the outside race is just a good general habit to get into when pressing in any kind of bearing. Always avoid side loading the inner race if you can.

This method also works for fingerboard wheels with bearings, that speed cream is magic!

I will say that my Bronson G3's haven't been cleaned since I put them on months ago and they're still performing like new.
I'll likely only do them every six months.
Also, if speed cream isn't available, you can use sewing machine oil
Yeah, I really don't think you need to do this a lot. I've even had guys say they never clean them, they just replace them.
@@SurfskateLove in the UK Bronsons set me back £30. I will say that before I make the decision to rebuy, it's well worth me spending some time and likely very little money cleaning them. I've even heard that you can essentially make yourself a bearing cleaner bottle with a bottle, bolt, wing nut and a glue gun.

Hey Steve. In my case, I use specific bearing grease (ceramic) which is the same one I use for my MTB. It's a bit thicker but It'll last longer and spread it self better as soon as you start rolling. It helps a lot if you ride in places where it rains more often and wheels tend to get grimmier faster. About the process, if your bearing has two rubber caps, one side is open, the other still has the white plastic support for the bearings, so it's pretty much the exact same process for both. To install any bearings you should push at the friction side. That would be where the bearing race meets the wheel race. Anything inside of that you are putting pressure on the bearing assemble. This shouldn’t be much of a problem unless tolerances are tight.

Hi -- I am new to surfskating. I have found your channel very interesting and very informative for a beginner. I have a question about the wheels on my YOW Huntington Meraki (S5) and my Smoothstar Holy Toledo, which I have not found any answer to so far.
To begin with -- my expectation when I first got Smoothstar is that it should be faster.
However, it required a little more efforts for me to pump when riding Smoothstar than YOW. I found YOW to be more pleasant and faster to get from Point A to Point B -- say 200 yards on the road. So, I decided to time the wheels, and the result was the YOW's wheels when spun (by hand) last much longer compared to those of Smoothstar.
I realized that Smoothstar is designed for surf-training, and not for long cruising. But, from your other video I understand you said YOW with Meraki truck is not designed for long cruising either. At least I expect the wheels of both brands to be similar in performing.
I believe you have both brands and will much appreciate if you can confirm this, or if it was just me lacking the basics to ride Smoothstar and in need for more practice (despite my riding YOW was smooth and effortless). And, I will much appreciate if you could also explain why YOW's spinning wheels last longer, please!!

Maybe just get built in bearings (like from Zealous or Tekton from Seismic). No more need for spacers or speed rings when installing! AND no need for spacers when cleaning!
The ones from Biltin already come with a container with a screwable cap wherin the bearings are arranged on a bolt. So you also don' t need any special cleaning bottle any more - just use the container for cleaning. The Biltin bearings have metal shields though.
I sometimes just dissassemble the bearing(s) that don' t run as smootly any more completely and clean them by hand.
i use 2 DIY cleaners so i can re use the dirty alcohol or acetone (may buy the official cleaners in the future)

Also don't forget to clean the inside of your wheels, they sometimes gunk up too. *Also you should be careful with your skatetool while tightening the wheels, the tool itself can press in the seal of the bearing. Look up something like bronsons bearing saver tool and you'll understand it, i messed up quite a few bearings until I realized it was the tool 😅🤙

The Slide is very easy. I would start by just taking it apart carefully and analyzing all the parts.
