This is the best video I’ve seen on this. I’m going out to sort mine out right now. Thanks for explaining how you worked out the tension/turns, that was the bit I was really unsure on.
Good luck! Here is a version of the video that has no music. ruclips.net/video/7xFc-bSWf-k/видео.html I've annotated the tension with a text overlay too this time :)
Good Job guys ... I tackled this job of adding tension to the spring and lost grip twice as only using grips scared the pants of me when the spring went ... but third attempt got it and managed to secure it ... good to see you used correct spanners and gloves / eye protection as this job can be very dangerous. Luckily I did not need to replace the cones just rewound the cables onto the cones it all worked a treat as did your repair ... well done... good useful video for others.
We pooled our toolboxes to get 2x 22mm spanners. The thickness of an adjustable would have caused the outer spanner to get very close to slipping off the nut. The gloves I used were a bargain at 5 quid from toolstation (42874), cut level 5. A good investment as I've also used them for moving/handling carpet gripper.
Looks so easy putting the tension in with spanners. My Henderson door requires two 6 inch metal rods which put a terrible strain on your fingers as the tension builds up.And one slip and you are back to square one.Possibly minus an eye!
Using fix spanners was key, a pair of adjustables would be too fat and get a bit risky to dropping/slipping off the end. Anyway here is a version of the video that has no music. ruclips.net/video/7xFc-bSWf-k/видео.html
Great job lads I have the same issue with mine and going to start it this week. One question. I have a similar problem as you as my cones are very close to the wall and cannot release pin and take cones off. How did you manage to do this as its clear you couldn't fit it the cone over the shaft and replace pin. Can the shaft be slid over? thank you
my local garage repair and installation companys said they wouldnt want to help me fix my garage door and were only interested in fitting a whole new door! so i saved myself £800 by just replacing the bent main canopy spring bar, fitted it this weekend with my neighbour :)
Nice video with good clear detailing totally ruined by stupid music playing as I am trying to listen to you. Ditch the supermarket music your video/ comments are what we are listening to.(please)….
Sorry for that. Here is a version of the video that has no music. ruclips.net/video/7xFc-bSWf-k/видео.html The link should be visible as a note card and in the description - why don't people find it and comment on the 'no music version' saying "wow, that's so much better than the other one" which would promote it up the search rankings?
Did not get it instructions as they were hit and miss with them. What were the molegrips doing or did I miss something. So what did teach me nothing really only how to use an hacksaw and two spanners in conjuction with each other. I am sure with nearly 9k views somebody must have understood. Me I prefer a blow by blow action plan sorry lads I never got that. Have got anymore that you have updates given the comments or is this it.
They hold the shaft from rotating that has the cone attached while the spring tensioning is done. Before starting on the spring you want to have the guide wires and cones all set with the slack removed. They were also useful to help rotate the shaft to find the roll pin holes. See if it's any clearer in this version I did: ruclips.net/video/7xFc-bSWf-k/видео.html it's got a bit of text overlay and better audio, but no extra footage.
They shall remain nameless, however a well known company in the area. Prevents positive advertising by search engines, but I wonder if they are the thumbs down...
Nice informative video.... but the music was much too loud! 😁👍🇬🇧
Nice work. Very helpful thanks. (The music is a bit of a distraction)

It all looks so easy when the garage is empty. Great fun when the wire busts with car in the garage!
We did empty out some of a garage before starting - using the step ladder as a prop.

Once the drift pins were free the shaft could slide left/right by about half of a cone width. Enough to get each side on one at a time.
Good Luck
The two bolts holding everything onto the frame have to be removed to allow you to pull it towards you and release the cone.
Hi I am only getting tension on the left side the right does not seem to roll up any ideas?
If you didnt play the music so loud would be great as we could actually hear you....

Hi I am tensioning mine but only the left side is tensioning the right is not spooling any ideas?
Has the cotter pin fallen out. Both spools should be firmly attached to the shaft.
(probably a bit late now....)
why music overlaid? i want to listen to you and what your saying..
Might have been a better idea to have dropped the music as it distracted me from hearing instructions you were saying couldn’t her a word
Hi Francis, here is a version of the video that has no music which I recently uploaded. ruclips.net/video/7xFc-bSWf-k/видео.html
Sack the film man , Maybe the camera was too heavy for him , As he kept lowering the camera only getting your elbows in shot .....
Either speak louder or don't put music over the top. The important bits of this were inaudible.
Hi Big, I guess you did not see the link in the description to the version without music? ruclips.net/video/7xFc-bSWf-k/видео.html
Rather hear the talking than the overload misic

Rather have people comment on this video, without the music, so youtube promotes it.
Brilliant, but can you get rid of the absolutely gash music?
De-gashed here, enjoy: ruclips.net/video/7xFc-bSWf-k/видео.html

Great but lose the daft music. Thank you , will give it a go!
Useful but music almost drowned out the voice
Turn the music down.
