thanks i bought a second hand door and the whole spring was flipped over to the front of the door. nearly cut the cables to release the tension to flip it over, saved me a lot of time and messing about with it thanks again. local garage door suppliers wanted 120 quid to come out and fix it.

Great help. Thanks. I’m not sure I’d have managed to do the job without your help. That said, you suggest in the vid that if you lose the tension in the spring you’re in real trouble. That’s not the case. I just wound it back on according to your the instructions in your tensioning vid. Thanks for your help

Thanks David it's a bit daunting when you don't know what the job's going to entail so when i saw that the door you were working on was the same type as mine it gave me confidence to tackle the job, however for some reason i couldn't get the locking pin to locate into the shaft it was as if the hole in the collar wasn't in line with the hole in the main shaft, in the end I had to release all of the tension in the spring so that I could remove the right hand fixing bracket and then reinstate the tension back into the spring when I had changed the cone and cable and new roller shaft. Thanks again I couldn't have done it without your video..

Your videos are very helpful. I've had a garage door the same as yours for about 12 years. To be honest the spools hardly ever break on them. BUT I have had to replace a cable more than once. I just just poke the new cable through the hole in the spool and fit a cable holder on it. I've actually just had to replace a new cable on one side of my garage door. And I hadn't done it for a few years so I checked on your video just to refresh my memory. So thank you. 👍PS. You have a great name. Lol

I fit a variety of different garage doors professionally and greasing the tracks is a big no! Over time dirt and dust builds up in tracks and the grease acts almost as a glue and actually stops the wheels rolling. Just use a generous spray of WD40 and clean rag every 6 months/ year!

If your predicament is that of a frayed cable loop, and your frame is set between brick pilasters that prevent cone replacement without door removal, here is a quick and easy solution that works well:
It requires a short length of 2mm cable and 2 x 2mm oval wire clamps (these still clamp old 1.5mm cable effectively).
NB Estimate where to cut off the frayed cable loop very carefully - you probably have 130mm or less to accommodate the new arrangement.
Cut a short length of new 2mm cable - 250 to 275mm should be sufficient.
Form a new loop held by one of the oval clamps - one end of the cable will need to protrude enough for it to be held by the other oval clamp, along with the cut end of the old cable.
Note that manufacturers/vendors of wire clamps warn against their being used for lifting operations and typically quote 50-70% of proof load.
NB Be sure to check existing cable for serviceability.
NB The use of such an arrangement on both sides of the door cannot be endorsed - do so at your own risk.
Thanks for an informative post that has attracted some useful comments, especially preventative maintenance using an aerosol light lubricating oil.

Hi David, I want to remove an up and over garage door. Do I let all the tension off the spring or what is the procedure?. Cheers and Thanks

No lock the spring with a pin as i do in the tensioning video then you can remove the wires from the door

Cheers, the problem I have is that the cone is virtually touching the wall so there is no room to pull it off, I'm going to have to slacken off the spring and pull it away from the top of the door to allow enough room to pull off and put on the new one....stupid builders!
I've got the parts and I'm going to eventually do it but film it as well and upload to my other channel. Thanks for the advice
