Haegeum is a Korean instrument but it also means 'lift an ban' or 'unlock something forbidden'. He actually used a haegeum in the background but this song is also a call to free yourself from the way of thinking society has locked you in

Not many people see the connection between the bald guy and how he helps Gang-AgustD with his fight against Cop-AgustD! Congratulations for noticing! And yes, this is a reappearing theme in AgustD videos - him fighting his past self to grow and become someone better. Also, have you noticed how the scar on his face becomes smaller and more healed with each version of AgustD? He is healing by defeating his past weaknesses and flaws.

The Slaves to RUclips line I always took as something in common from the smallest creators to the very largest who become slaves to the algorithm, slaves to always needing more subs, more views, more engagement, upward trajectory... the algorithm is also a monster who needs more and more content.
If you start to take breaks or put out higher quality content at a slower pace, YT really doesn't like that when it comes to pushing it out to viewers.

@chrislancaster RUclips deletes BTS (and their individual member solo effort) views regularly. ARMY tracks views very closely, so we see pretty much immediately when views are deleted - usually by the millions in the first 24 hours, and by the hundreds of thousands even a month after a song is released. I have seen it happen with my own eyes.

Nice reaction, you got the hint : Daechwita and Haegeum are part of a trilogy. They are linked together with a third song that you should definitely react to : Amygdala. Also about the lyricism, Suga is always very real in his lyrics. He writes and produces his own songs (in collaboration with other people often) and tbh if you tell Suga "you're not what they want you to be right now", he'd probably be the happiest 😂Being part of the biggest group in the world did not change his realistic take on the world, he openly writes about different topics that can sometimes be under-represented in the industry.
He's a real asset in BTS, just like every single member to be honest. (You already saw a glimpse of J-Hope and Jungkook who are also members of the group). I'm probably not qualified enough to write a proper introduction on who these gentlemen are but basically BTS is a South-Korean group that has, no lie, the widest range of music any artist have and hundreds of songs. That means, no matter what your genre is, you'll find songs you like and some you might enjoy less. Anyways, as much as medias like to put groups in a box, BTS is no typical "boyband" and even in the Kpop industry, they're totally different. BTS are pionniers in some way and have a totally different story. But most of all, they've been working very hard for a decade, literally starting from scratch in a company that was on the verge on bankruptcy only to have made this company one of the biggest economic sources in South Korea nowadays. They literally are the one who paved the way for Kpop artist outside of Korea. To make it short, there are 3 rappers and 4 singers. Before debuting, two of them were underground rappers and another two of them were dancers. And on top of being amazing rappers, singers and dancers ; BTS members write, produce, take part in the artistic concepts, music videos, dance choreographies, ideas... Everything basically, in collaboration with their company staff and artists. They're really on a lane of their own and I think you'll see that for yourself when you react to more.
If you choose to react to BTS (which I 100% recommend), please do NOT start with their all English songs as they don't really represent their message. So no "Dynamite", no "Butter" and no "Permission to Dance" for a first listen. They're good of course but just not representative for a first reaction to the group. 😅 That's my advice... Especially if you like rap, they have much deeper songs.
    Enjoy the journey !

You’re the first person I’ve seen ever understand the whole thing and pick up all the Joker references and the cop being dirty and the guy calling the dirty cop to let him know what was going on, etc. and even recognizing the phone guy nobody notices that guy ever😂 also, at the end he was given a ride from the cops to the noodle shop where he killed that guy with the chopsticks upstairs. Thank you for reacting to Agust D. He and the rest of the BTS members have been challenging authority since their debut and even before that. They won't hold back, and because of it, they get a lot of backlash and hate. You do get that this is an ongoing story, and it's about Agust D's inner struggle, and in each of these MV's, he is fighting his previous self and how used to think, because each of these he kills off his old self. Please do Amygdala next. It's his personal story, and a beautiful piece of ART.
*Amygdala* (2023) - is an almond shaped part of our brain which is commonly thought to form the core of a neural system for processing fearful and threatening stimuli, including detection of threat and activation of our fight or flight response. The amygdala helps to store memories of events and emotions so that an individual may be able to recognize similar events in the future.

People run RUclips channels to be seen and heard. Only a fraction of that concerns music. A lot of RUclips postings are to influence thought. Listeners based on algorithms are directed to other postings which may reinforce certain types of ideas. These often shape peoples' understandings and opinions. Slaves to RUclips is not per se about creators or their individual postings but the mechanics of how people become immersed in types of ideas for RUclips's benefit at RUclips's doing.

So are other two rappers of BTS, RM and J-Hope. They all have their own individual music, which is dope but very different from each other while still staying part of the group. Once you learn about the background of BTS and their history of the last 10 years you will see that they speak their mind and they go against everything they view as unjust. They are honest and amazing with their lyrics and don't worry, no one is big enough to cancel BTS. Their lyrics are raw and amazing. Yes, it's the third in a trilogy so ARMY catches everything, but it's nice to see someone else appreciate that. He killed the king, he killed the dirty cop and now he is free!

BTS has spoken out on various injustices and had to be clever about how they say it in the past. One of their most direct burns/criticisms of their government and culture is a song called Bapsae (Silver Spoon). It's a banger.
The lyrics refer to a Korean idiom about a bapsae bird (in English it's called a "crow tit" bird). A bapsae has short legs, versus a stork with long legs.
So, the wealthy and higher-ups are storks who maneuver around with ease, versus the "bapsaes" (also known as try-hards) who have to work twice as hard to keep up.

Suga said that Agust D is an aggressive part of himself that copes with the trauma he experienced during his youth.
The MV’s are basically him always killing the arrogant, aggressive and greedy version of himself.
First the self centered king that wanted people‘s heads off was killed by the poor version of himself.
Then in Haegum the poor version became a dirty cop driven by capitalism. So the new (joker) version of him needed to kill the greedy cop.
Also notice the development of the scars. With every new version of him, it heals and in the end it‘s gone.
Amygdala is how Agust D arises. Suga experienced trauma and his brain developed a version of him that was able to cope with the trauma. The scar was made and is fresh and open. The start of his alter ego.

There's a behind the scenes for the making of Daechwita on BTS' offical YT channel called BangtanTV - in it Yoongi (aka Suga aka Agust D) says that in that one it's a battle between him and his anger. In this one, I feel like it could be about his personal relationship with greed and wanting more fame/money, but I think there's another take related to the visuals. For context public figures in South Korea a held to a very high and almost unattainable standard. Actors and Idols (pop stars) can be canceled over relatively innocent things like dating & smoking, etc. (Notice how Yoongi challenged that by smoking in the MV). So with haegeum's other meaning of lifting a ban, this could be a criticism of these double standards, between what the general public does and the standards they hold public figures to. How ones freedom of expression (and the shit people say about each other, esp online) impinges and limit others (and when he says some people's freedom can be the death of others, it is that serious. Cancel culture can get so intense that there have been multiple Idols who have ended there life in the last handful of years - including an Idol the same week Yoongi's album dropped). In the video he has these 2 characters, one a gangster who murders someone & steals money, and then a cop who is corrupt -- attempted murder as well as who also has money that probably wasn't obtained legally. Both are in the wrong, but the cop is the hypocrite, just as the general public who cancels public figures are hypocrites. There's also a documentary of the making of this album and he talked about these double standards and even how the smoking scene could be controversial and how ridiculous that would be. Thanks for the great reactions, love all the details you pick up, the connections you make, the attention to lyrics and just your overall really intelligent reactions.

He meets the guy in Deachwita at the beginning in the market the same way. In both videos he’s trying to kill off his angry/greedy side before it consumes him. All 3 of his albums and his tour last year was based around this and his 3 personalities trying to overpower each other and him ultimately healing from all of his trauma. I’m really impressed with how fast you picked up the concept

A little information on the group itself and some things to take note of as to not get confused:
First and foremost, I see a lot of reactors get confused with this so I will just help you out if you don't already know this, but in most asian culture, the last name comes first. So Suga's actual name is Min Yoongi, his first name is Yoongi and his last is Min.
BTS as a group has been around since June 13 2013, but they have done things like covers even before debut.
Yoongi is the second oldest member of the group and was an underground rapper before he became a kpop idol.
Currently, Yoongi is fulfilling his military duties and won't be back until June of 2025. He would be back sooner but since he is not doing the normal type of service due to a past injury, he has to do 21 months of service instead of 18 months.
The oldest member and third oldest member are also in the military but are doing the standard 18 months.
The other 4 members will be enlisting this next month so the group as a whole will not fully be together until June 2025.
Now on to the members, their names, and their ages.
    - Jin is the oldest member, born on December 4th, 1992. His full name is Kim Seokjin and he will be returning from the military in 6 months. He is one of the vocalists of the group and release his single The Astronaut last year before enlisting. The song was given to him by the band Coldplay.
    - Suga or Agust D is the second oldest member, born March 9th 1993. He release his album D-Day earlier this year and proceeded to go on a tour for it. Daechwita and Haegeum are part of a trilogy, and the next song on the trilogy is Amygdala and it is more of a prologue to the first two songs. A thing to note with this song is that the lyrics are very much hinting at his life story and it is all true. In the music video you will also learn about how his scar that is so known with Agust D came to be. You will also learn about the injury I mentioned earlier in this comment. He is one of the rappers.
    - J-Hope is the third oldest member, born on February 18th, 1994. His full name is Jung Hoseok, he enlisted earlier this year so he still has some time left. Last year he released his album Jack in the box, and earlier this year he released Jack in the box Hope Edition. He is one of the rappers and the dance leader.
    - RM is the fourth oldest member, born on September 12th, 1994. His full name is Kim Namjoon, and he is one of the members that will be enlisting next month. He completes what is known as the 'hyung line', hyung is a term that korean men use when addressing either their older brothers, or an older friend. He released his album Indigo late last year. Namjoon was also an underground rapper and was the first member of BTS. He is the leader of the group. He is a rapper.
    - Jimin is the third youngest member, born on October 13th, 1995. His full name is Park Jimin and he will be enlisting next month. He is part of what is called the 'maknae line', maknae is a term used when a person, male or female, is the youngest of a group or the youngest in a family. He released his album Face earlier this year. He is a vocalist.
    - V is the second youngest member, born on December 30th, 1995. His full name is Kim Taehyung and he will enlist next month. His album Layover was released in September. He is a vocalist.
    - Jungkook is the youngest member, born on September 1st, 1997. His full name is Jeon Jeongguk and he will enlist next month. He just release his album Golden this month, and had released two singles, Seven and 3D, before his album. He is a vocalist.
If you are wanting a little bit more information on the members, I suggest watching a guide.
There are two guides I recommend. The first one is called A Guide to BTS Members: The Bangtan 7, I would suggest watching this one first as it is more information on the members: ruclips.net/video/huV_yIdxZPY/видео.htmlsi=mxwKKRIFpyRHeh-Q
The second one is called The Most Beautiful Life Goes On: A Story of BTS, this one does give you information on the members but it does touch into their music and albums a bit more: ruclips.net/video/0KonKFssKnM/видео.htmlsi=Zhd05maGZcJc6KaX
Now on to songs I recommend from each member and the group as a whole:
    Jin - Awake(lyrics, there is no mv)(2016), The Astronaut(2022), and Moon(lyrics)(2020)
    Suga - Snooze(2023), Amygdala(2023), Agust D(2016)

    Jimin - Serendipity(2017), Set me free(2023), Filter(lyrics)(2020)
    V - Stigma(lyrics)(2016), Love Me Again(2023), Christmas Tree(2021)
    Jungkook - Seven(2023), Yes or No(lyrics)(2023), Euphoria(2018)
BTS - RUN BTS(they have a song called run so make sure its run bts and not run by bts, also no mv but there is a dance practice)(2022), Mic Drop(2017), ON Kinetic manifesto film(2020), I Need U(2015), Blood Sweat and Tears(2016), Boy with Luv(2019), Life Goes On(2020), Fake Love(2018).
    BTS Rap Line - Cyphers 1-4(Lyrics), Daeng(Lyrics), Tear(Lyrics), UGH!(Lyrics)
    BTS Vocal Line - Lost(lyrics), House of cards(lyrics), 00:00(Zero O'Clock)(lyrics)

Damn you're insightful. Catching onto details within the video while keeping up with the subtitles is not easy. Now I wanna see you take a crack at BTS - Blood, Sweat & Tears. I usually don't expect reactors to figure out what is going on in that MV on first listen but I'm curious to hear your thoughts.
But first I hope you finish the Agust D trilogy by watching Amygdala. And if you like that, then also watch The Last. This one doesn't have an MV but it's a very powerful song and gives more insight into Suga's story.

In addition to Amygdala to close out the trilogy I think you’d like Agust-D (by Agust-D), his first solo drop.
Festa Room would be a good intro to BTS- it’s a medley of songs and has quite a few rap verses and songs in it and shows off some of their range (they cross a lot of genres!)
Do You, Monster or Joke are good Intros to RM and if you like JCole, JHope did a collab with him before bouncing off to the military called On the Street! That’s a pretty good Intro to the rap line and BTS!
    Thanks for the reaction!

Suga is a whole other level talent, really shows when he’s Agust D, he can be an actor if he retires from music 😅 He really go all in on his mv.
I like your reactions you dive into it and research things you don’t know to better understand the music, you understanding what they try to put across in lyrics, and you catch things well like you catch that this mv brings in that Joker vibe even before the end where it’s obvious and that he’s a dirty cop.

      @reiang9637 10 месяцев назад

Yes in both mv it’s fighting against the corrupt at the top. And if you catch the scar from Daechwita is also here, but the scar semi healed. The last version standing has no scar.
You can say this is a continuation, the one that rose up against the king in the first now later also get to a position up top but also get corrupted and taken down by the better version.

When talking about slaves to RUclips, I think he’s referring to RUclips’s restrictions on lower content creators and how you have less freedom in present RUclips. There’s less freedom to create what you want because RUclips will take it down or demonetize your videos for dumb reasons.

I always took the line about freedom of expression being the reason for somebody's death as the opposite of what you did, which is the fun thing about lyrics! I took it as people being vocal about freedom of speech without taking into account that garbage and cruel things they say without consequences being one more thing pushing someone down a dark road, or adding to a story without fact checking and saying something that might ruin an innocent life. Basically like...yeah, you're allowed to say what you want, but is you calling someone ugly or untalented or whatever important enough to you that you're willing to help ruin someone's state to the point that they don't want to live anymore? Are you willing to put life and death value to your opinions and moral convictions. It feels like a song about taking accountability with freedom rather than facing punishment for using your freedom to me.

Only discovered your channel yesterday and I am binge-watching your BTS reactions. It is really refreshing to watch someone clearly intelligent and really observing the videos because the BTS members put huge amounts of effort in. You picked up on things, like the guys being in on it in Daechwita and this one, that other reactors miss so I love that.
If you like this kind of story telling in their songs, BTS has a whole fictional storyline known as the Bangtan Universe, that they revealed over many MVs across several albums, notebooks, short stories, webtoon called Save Me, and a mobile game. It is not finished yet and it started with the MV for I Need You I. 2015! That really is diving into the rabbit hole though.

Yesss The guy he used the chopsticks on it the guy who betrayed the king in Daechwita too so it's like karma caught up, kind of like if you build your empire on that kind of betrayal it comes back to bite you. The fact the same thing happened to him when he got corrupted by power.
Also i love that you actively look up the words XD rather than being like 'hey guys tell me what this means' XD Doesnt help much after the fact - really enjoying your reactions so far. Dow the rabbit hole you go Alice.

Since I like your reaction and observations on Haegeum, I wanna share my personal interpretations ☺
    Haegeum means 2 things
    - a korean 2-string instrument w/c yoongi used in the production
    - liberation from prohibition
    Some interpretations:
    1. It's a commentary on the abuse of "freedom of speech/opinion" or freedom in general, society's discretion on good & evil, capitalism
    2. this is agust d in a diff timeline, sequel to daechwita, the thief agust d vs. the cop agust d
    My takeaways:
    1. "we must differentiate freedom from self-indulgence", a translator's note is that "differentiate freedom from lawlessness" is more accurate... yoongi's point is that if a person's kind of freedom is that w/c harm others, can you still call that freedom? it isn't freedom when you strip other people of their freedom...
    2. the blatant explicit MV considering he's an idol (k1lling, smoking, stealing)... idols are criticized for the smallest of things like for example seeing an idol smoking just like some other people do, he will be hated, insulted by the public and sometimes even punished by their label as if they committed a crime... they're like the fish in the water dispenser yoongi was watching (he & other celebrities is the fish), that depiction is worse than a fish in a fishbowl, coz they are not just simply being observed but also being stripped off the water that make them breathe...
    3. "Endless influx of information prohibits freedom of imagination/thoughts, and seeks conformity of thought"... nowadays people have been so comfortable being spoonfed w/ information w/o putting effort in fact checking and critical thinking that always triggers controversy and results to confusion and judgment... take for example when BTS announced they are taking a break from group activities, the headlines were saying they will be on hiatus or they are breaking up and people just blindly ate that news, if journos really watched the dinner and reading the subs they clearly said they are just resting frm grp activities and will come back.. so clearly those journos chose to write those headlines for their own gain just like the verse on haegeum says, "slaves to capitalism, money, hatred, prejudice etc."
    4. think of the red chopstick as the "capitalistic society"... that chopstick is a tool to get what we want whether what we want is to resist this kind of society or submit to it, in the end we are part of the society and it's what puts food in our mouth to survive... This is the harsh truth that we can't really escape from it, this is how society was built. But, there's a clear difference between functioning in a capitalistic society vs. actively participating in it and strip others of their freedom. So what should we do?
    5. Agust D is part of yoongi, his inner dark psyche that portrays his conflicting thoughts, and Agust D also splits into micro-characters (the rebel, the boss, the peasant, the king, the thief & the cop) that expresses each of his stance. The blonde agust d in 2016 used his anger (song: agust d) and greed (song: give it to me) as a weapon to rise from nothingness and people's naysaying. In 2020 (song: Daechwita) the blonde agust d who achieved his goals and success was consumed by his greed and became a tyrant king w/c was later k1lled by the rebel/boss agust d (one who's followed by people).. In 2023 (song: Haegeum), the scarred cop agust d seems to be on the side of justice and a man of power but actually the bad guy who pocketed that bag of money while the tangerine thief and boss on that turf was actually the agust d who's trying to catch the evil cop. The greedy agust d is always k1lled by the other agust d, but see how the king and the cop was still smiling and never runs away when the other agust d is abt to k1ll them, it's because they will always be back, it's a constant cycle of making sure that our greed is being keep in check, a constant contemplation... this is the answer to #4.

Before BTS ever were big, they already were talking against the people in the power who could make small people, like they were, to disappear.. Agust D is known to talking about important things without caring if it is correct thing to do, if people and society needs it.
Agust D's roots are in underground Hip Hop and there the kinda personal honesty of your lyrics and the certain going against the society's flaws kinda is the thing.. He and BTS's leader RM never stopped going that. if there is an issue the write about it and if it is a thing that censorship would ban to infinity, they just use tripple entenders to say it and it flies high past the censorship and then they do a MV for it that highlights the real meaning and then it is too late for anybody to do anythnig. It might not be shown in national TV ever, but their message is wider than national TV. ;D
They did a song that highlighted sad issue of young people giving up their literal future, as in forever. :=( And then there was a horrible national tragedy :=( And BTS asked the survivors and the families of people who lost their lives in the tragedy that can they give the song additional meaning of the tragedy - and the affected people said yes you can. and BTS did a music video that literally could have made them disappear (say people whose culture and country we are talking about) it was such a big scandal and corruption mess that the president of the country went to jail for it - so now you see how high up the problem reached.. The song was released February 12, 2017 it has not dropped from the Korean top 100 lists since. It is the longest song to ever been there. Because people who BTS asked permission to do the MV are keeping it there, with us fans. Just now as I checked it is on Gaon Chart place 81.
It is my favorite song of BTS, but rarely I can listen to it without starting to full on ugly cry.
[7:45] You got it ! You are one of the rare that get it that he is a dirty cop ! Lets's see if you get the rest of it ! (Also you caught the Joker reference earlier than I have seen anybody else getting ! )
You are getting it ! You are good.
Ah and then you lost it.
He was dropped to the same beginning restaurant With A Police Car because ? Who ride Police cars ? He was undercover cop supposed to catch the dirty cop.
And the same red chopsticks that took life with he is now feeding himself.. Circle of life : something has to loose its life for all of us to eat.

Great reaction! You really picked up on a lot of the symbolism and undercurrents. As for the “slave to RUclips” line, I think he means more about the clout chasers on RUclips and other social channels. There are a lot of fake reactors and fake videos that are just after views. And those people get addicted to the attention and the drama. There is nothing wrong with building your channel with genuine content like yours.

I agree - I didn't take the line to mean that RUclips as a company dictates what you make or when you make it, but more like chasing the trends, the algorithm, jumping on board with things you wouldn't do except they're popular right now and will lead to lots of views. Faking your own tastes because right now this other thing is trending. That sort of thing. Of course we see a ton of reactors jumping on what I call the "unlikely BTS reactor" train - someone who isn't a stereotype of a kpop fan shocks everyone by enjoying the music... except sometimes they don't enjoy it, you can tell, but they need that for the views.
