Nice reaction ! You got it right : this song is his life story. The amygdala is a part of the brain that performs a primary role in
processing emotional responses. When Yoongi (his real name) is asking his amygdala to save him, he's basically asking himself and his own emotions to save him. The lyrics are pretty explicit in themselves : he went through a lot in his life and also battled with depression for several years. A few precision that we, as fans, are aware of :
    - Both his parents are still alive (thank God) despite the health struggles that was revealed in this song.
    - The accident we keep seeing glimpse of and that he mentioned was during BTS's beginnings. He had a side job as a delivery guy and got into a car accident. It wasn't an accident of fatal consequences although Yoongi was injured but he kept it hidden for years, didn't mention it to the company or anyone (their beginning was very humble and full of struggles, I believe he didn't want to add to it as they were physically training basically like athletes). He finally got surgery in 2020 but not before developing a very serious case of shoulder injury from all those years.
Anyways, the whole trilogy is about his battle with himself. It's pure artistic genius if I'm being real. Fun fact : he might not have been able to open the door in the video and save himself ; but on the last day of his tour (August 2023) he left the stage going through this exact door. I believe it was a sign of closure for him and for his fans. 😊

Amygdala is the last of the 3, but it's the "prequel" to the others. Suga struggled throughout his life, to the point he thought of every way out. He ended up scarring himself to hide "his weak self". The scar was him becoming "agust d", the guy that basically throws up a middle finger in everyone's face. In this song, his asking to be freed from all his memories/trauma. IDK, many army's can explain it better

    • @karolinahajduk6892
      @karolinahajduk6892 10 месяцев назад +36

I would just add, that from my understanding, the message was that some scars are self-inflicted (he made his own scar in Amygdala) and that the way they heal depends on us, how we improve ourselves. This is why the King-AgustD in Daechwita had a very prominent scar, but the next "versions" of him, the ones who defeat the old "versions" have a smaller, more healed scar.

he happy ending of this saga happened at the last show of the DDay tour, where he finally manages to walk through this door, overcoming this painful past. It was exciting. RM sang a song with him and the entire BTS rap lineup was in attendance, including J Hope and Jin, who are in the military and got time off to honor their brother.

Also, all of the 6 other members made an appearance at the Agust D concert in Seoul, but only 3 (Jimin, Jungkook and RM) on different nights) performed with Yoongi. Two of the members, Jin and JHope, were already serving their active military duty so they able to go to performance, but not perform. The final member, V, was literally days away from dropping his solo album, was super busy, but he did attend a performance.
Military is mandatory for Korean men as they are technically still at war, from the Korean War, is only under an armistice truce which has lasted now 70 years. As of December 12, all 7 members are enlisted. 🥺, so now BTS ARMY have to wait 2025 to see them. Serve well 🫡 BTS! 💜🫶🏼💜

Happy to say that Suga's parents are still living. The images depicted are true to his life. He was delivering food and was hit by a car. His shoulder was enjured. He had surgery a couple of years ago. In the video, he wants to forget his bad memories. But he can't escape his amygdala. No one can. Which is why he doesn't get out of the room. Our memories, good and bad, are a part of us.

You pay more attention than most reactors, and you actually try to understand, and I enjoy that about you. The trilogy is way for Suga/AgustD/ Min Yoongi to visualize his internal struggles. He has dealt with a lot of things, but his biggest battle was learning how to live with his past rather than run from it.
His whole D-Day tour was very symbolic of his journey.

At the end of the final concert, he walked through the door to end the concert. He's at peace now, just so you know.💜

*Amygdala* - is an almond shaped part of our brain which is commonly thought to form the core of a neural system for processing fearful and threatening stimuli, including detection of threat and activation of our fight or flight response. The amygdala helps to store memories of events and emotions so that an individual may be able to recognize similar events in the future.
*Day-chi-ta and Hay-gum* - He had the scar in both of those
This is Yoongi's story. He wants to recall the memories so he can deal with them and control them. If we can remember our trauma's and deal with them, that will bring healing. If we keep them in our subconscious minds, they tend to control us, and we don't see it, but we feel it in our lives and how it affects us. For Yoongi (aka Suga aka Agust D) it would be his depression, OCD, and Anxiety. And Yes, they did cause him to want to Kill Himself.
Yoongi has shared his mental health issues with us since the beginning, and he stated how some of his roughest times were in the early days, like from 2014 to 2016, how he developed social anxiety at age 18, he was dealing with depression and OCD. BTS had hate coming at them from all angles, and it took a toll on them in the early years. So hearing all the other things he was dealing with as well, just puts things into perspective. He's such a strong person. In the making video, he said, *"the scars we create are of our own making."* So the best way for him to represent that was the way that he did with the scar on his face. And the medicine he took was for his condition. He talked about how he saw a psychiatrist and his parents went with him, and they said they didn't know who he was anymore. This was in "The Last" from his first mixtape Agust D.
He said, *"how could anyone know him when he doesn't know himself,"* so that phrase "I don't know your name" made sense to me. Looking back at repressed memories. Thankfully he got through all of it, and now is healed to a certain degree. I see the rain as a shift., He also talked about "What doesn't kill you make you stronger", and he is now "blooming like a lotus flower." The lotus flower is very resilient, and can grow in mud and water, like on a lake or pond. So I see the rain as cleansing, and healing.
He also said in the behind the scenes on Daechwita, that the mad King was the Agust D from his first Mixtape in 2016, and the peasant was from his 2020 mixtape D-2. You can see the scar is very raw in that video on both of them, maybe slightly less for the 2020 Agust D. In Haegeum, I interpret it as Agust D from 2020 is the Police detective/corrupt Boss, with the partially healed scar, and the Agust D that kills, and steals the money with no scar is his album "D-Day" Agust D. The one that is mostly healed and is talking about freedom. (Do we ever completely heal from our scars?)
In an interview with IU, and in the D-Day film, he talks about how he was very angry and now he has forgiven the haters and is living in the present. So his music moving forward may not have the angry vibe that we have seen in the past. But he is definitely not done yet
Finally, Yoongi went on a sold-out world tour, after this album was released, and at the Final concert, he was very emotional, and had his BTS Bros. and his PEERS there with him.On a couple occasions, ARMY's sang the parts in the song he was singing, because he was so emotional he couldn't sing. And at the very end, the door he couldn't go through in this Music Video is on the stage, and he's able to walk through now. That tells me that he has healed and accepted those parts of himself, and he can move forward and let go now. You could see the relief on his face, and the love in his eyes, as he waved good bye and closed the door. EPIC MOMENT.
Check out the scar below the tattoo on his shoulder. The tattoo was placed there for a reason. It's a friendship tattoo that all the BTS members got before they took their break, because they are brothers in heart and soul. The scar below if from the motorcycle accident. ruclips.net/user/shortsHgx7ZB14FoE?feature=share

The bad things that the amygdala processes (emotional memory) end up being a protective memory: If you were stung by a bee, the amygdala gives you the sensation of fear because of the memory of the bad symptoms you felt and this fear protects you against another sting. ...
The end of the video is frustrating and we only understand it after seeing the end of the live show in Seoul, when he leaves through that same door, showing us how he has overcome his difficult past.
Check "Snooze", he is already experienced and gives strength to those just starting out on the journey, providing support and strengthening dreams that, at first, seem impossible for those just starting out.

Min Yoongi(his real name) always says his music is up for your own interpretations. I think a lot of his music has hit home to a lot of people, because he is so connected to what he went through in life. His whole discography is about his life struggles, overcoming them, and helping others find a way to do the same. The scar represents (to me) self inflicted emotional wounds we give ourselves, and throughout the trilogy you see the scar get lighter and lighter as he kills off each part of his toxic egos to where it leads to Heaguem, where the "criminal" who survives doesnt have the scar anymore, ending the trilogy saying he has finally healed and moved past his traumas.

You are pretty good with your interpretation of all 3 songs! Thank you for paying attention to the lyrics! I checked the comment section for all your videos for Agust D and I think you will find the answers that will fill in the missing pieces of information there :)
Also, fun fact: Agust D had a tour this year and the whole stage was representing the Amygdala Room - through the tour, through the performances he basically went through many past memories, and performed many old songs where he brought up difficult and sensitive topics. And on the last day of the tour, on the stage appeared the white door - the one he tried to reach in this MV. And on the final day of the tour, he finally reached those doors. It was such a poetic way to wrap up this chapter of his life - and ARMy felt so moved he decided to share this moment with us.

It shows two sides: the depression and the person who is fighting that battle.
Going through all Yoongi did, its definitely an unfortunate yet relatable issue for those suffering from depression.

I agree, he’s interested enough to want to understand. Terell, this trilogy is based on actual events and struggles in Agust D’s life as a trainee, the accident, his folks illnesses and his actual suicide attempt that from what I understand, Jin saved him from succeeding. He changed his outlook on life as time went on. BTS’s rise was very difficult, and they were all so young. They learned how to deal with so much opposition. But they became stronger, ARMY has always been a source of support, BTS persevered! I appreciate that you are resourceful and want to understand, I’ve only been here since 2016, and ARMY can correct me if I’ve made errors, but I researched them myself, looking for answers.

Hey just found your channel with this reaction. Loved it! Yes, Yoongi (a.k.a. SUGA a.k.a. AgustD) has said the scar can represent the more internal emotional and psychological scars that people have that aren't always on the surface to see, and how sometimes these scars are brought about by tragedy and such but sometimes we inflict our own scars onto ourselves. His song "The Last" talks more about his story of growing up and dealing with social anxiety and depression and the darkness he overcame in that process. The Amygdala (Ah-MIG-dah-lah) is often associated with the fight or flight response and can also hide away memories that may be too traumatic to deal with. He has a behind on the making of the album over on Disney+ (Road to D-Day) that talks about how he had to remember and unpackage all of his painful memories as he wrote this and other songs for the album, how it was necessary but difficult but to heal he knew he had to face them all. Thanks for the reaction!

If you noticed his scar here in Amygdala is so fresh compared to Daechwita and Haegeum. In this song he finally revealed the origin of his scar and its symbolism which i think millions of his fans and viewers globally including me trying to figured out through the years..... that's why Yoongi aka Suga aka Agust D is so special, so unique to me , so genius , so brilliant in making his own music, not only most of it bases in his life but the way he constructed , storyline , its story board that according to him while he is making Daechwita he already had the storyboard of HaEgeum , the boy is not only a good rapper but such a genius overall in making music. Yes, definitely recommend looking out for an MV explanation video by a Korea, like DKDKTV, because there is a lot of Korean cultural references, slang or visuals that we, westerners, will miss and it’s eye-opening to really see what a genius level these guys are operating on! Also, use other explanation videos for their MVs as well, like by bookish theories, because BTS musical inspiration can come from some serious intellectual sources of literature, art, philosophy, psychology and I wasn’t smart enough to know some of that on my own or had 1st hand knowledge of that information. So I hope you continue your BTS journey & I’ve really enjoyed your reactions to their music. 💜🫶🏼💜

Relating this song back to the first two in the trilogy- this is about fighting yourself and in the first two videos he killed the “evil” version of himself. This video also reveals that the scar was self-inflicted.
You’re putting it together pretty well for someone with no background knowledge of Agust-D and his life. He has always written openly about his past struggles with mental (and physical) health, which is unusual in rap and even more unusual in Korean music. The Last is a masterpiece of his where he is very blunt about last struggles and overcoming them.

I think there are 3 more songs that would make Agust D story more... complete? Put more light on the path he took?
    1) The Last (old song about his struggles)
    2) D-DAY (one of his newest songs about overcoming problems and looking toward a better future)
    3) Snooze (song he made with intend to comfort people who struggle - since he know how it is. it is dedicated mostly to younger artists).

This was such a great reaction; thank you so much! This song is absolutely amazing; I am so happy you enjoyed it. The things he sings about are things that happened to him; it's a very personal song. Appreciate you looking up the meaning of 'amygdala' while you watched. He did a tour for this album this spring/summer, and the last show is DID open the door and walk through it. Thank you for this reaction. Would love to see more, maybe some BTS reactions (Agust D/SUGA is a member of BTS). Fake Love or Black Swan I think would be great. Thanks again for reacting to Agust D.

You got it right. It is about coping from trauma. Amygdala is an almond shaped part of the brain that retains traumatic memories and makes people emotionally respond to them. Even after the trauma has passed, this is why people will still remain sensitive to it. In Daechwita, we all thought that the scar was from fighting against the unfair criticism and treatment from underground rappers and the kpop industry but in 'Amygdala' he shows that he gave it to himself by dwelling on the past. He is facing all his trauma head on and dealing with it so that he can move past it.
The first, second and third (the actual translation is second to the second) choice could be in reference to another of his songs 'Interlude:Shadow' - BTS (as SUGA) where he says 'doing the best is the first best' and that 'running away is the second best'. It could mean trying to do his best, then running away and then running away from running away. Or it could be mean doing the best with the hands he's dealt - 'Hope I made the best decisions'.
The lotus flower is very beautiful but it grows in muddy waters. In Asian cultures, it is a symbol for overcoming adversity.

I took the “Amygdala please save me” as him asking his amygdala to help him process the traumas and emotions so that he can heal. The amygdala controls our emotions and it also stores all of our traumas. He’s crying out to heal from his past. 💜
You’re so quick with these videos and songs. Appreciate your analysis! 🎉

Also, if you look at the part where the door closes on him. We see that up to this point he’s dressed in grey lying on the couch. He’s weakened. The door opens, he walks slowly towards it because he’s trying to drag himself towards the light . The door slams shut and all of a sudden he’s wearing black while the lights go crazy. He’s now trapped in there with his hectic feelings and thoughts. He tries to open the door and can’t. He’s stuck in deep with no hope. Eventually he resigns himself to his fate and slumps on the floor.
Meanwhile the outside world version of himself senses something is wrong and runs back to try and help him. Because the real him knows this can’t continue. It will destroy him.
The imagery is very vivid and mirrors the sentiments of the words. So clever!

The amygdala, also called the primitive brain, houses the memories of trauma. He really did have an accident that messed up his shoulder, and he needed surgery. BTS, and especially Suga, doesn't shy away from taking about mental health issues. He's been open about his fight with depression. He's asking his amygdala to help him work through his traumas.

This is what Suga said the meaning was....“There’s a thing called an ‘amygdala.’ Your brain stores all of your unpleasant memories in the amygdala,” he confirms. Suga adds that it does this “so you can prepare yourself for those types of situations in the future.” He then reveals that writing the song is difficult because it deals with personal memories like his accident and his parents’ illnesses.
“I have massive mood swings whenever I’m working on this song. To work on it, I have to bring up some of my unpleasant memories,” Min Yoongi said. However, he also points out that this is “a very important process to learn to control those memories.”
“AMYGDALA” is an emotional track where Suga brings up the accident where he incurred a shoulder injury. It also addresses his mother’s heart surgery and his father’s liver cancer diagnosis. The song confronts the painful memories but he also begs his amygdala to erase the sad moments. I love your reactions and how you try to find the deeper meaning behind the words and visuals. As you delve deeper into BTS you will find most of the music has a deeper meaning. 💜

The amygdala is the side responsible for memories in the brain, so when Yoongi said “My Amygdala save me” and” Let's erase memories one by one” it meant that he was asking his Amygdala to make him forget all the bad memories in his life so that he survives all the pain and suffering past, he is a genius in every sense of the word.

  • @BrilliantHuman
    @BrilliantHuman 10 месяцев назад +5

7:49 The Amygdala (pronounced Ah-mig-da-la) is the part of the brain that scans & processes experiences (that then become memories) looking for danger, and then places tags or associations within that experience so if it's encountered again in the future you can react quickly (hence why we can have triggers that don't always make sense like having anxiety/flashbacks around people who wear ball caps if someone wearing a ball cap attacked you in the past). With Yoongi some of his early traumatic experiences (like his Mom almost dying when she was still pregnant for him) were experienced non-verbally so there might not be a strong cognitive memory but it can still create emotional triggers/flashbacks and also beliefs about self can be formed around that time (like a child feeling responsible for their parent's near-death, which he has shared feeling). So he might not have remembered, but his amygdala is still creating emotional responses. The way he describes cutting himself here is that these experiences are in the past, but because of the way our brain is wired we continue to hurt ourselves and cause scars through triggers/flashbacks or even regret/anger/anxiety/depression/disassociation - whatever reaction we have to what is no longer in our present that no longer is to our benefit. I interpret him asking his amygdala to save him by releasing him from these emotional reactions/memories.

First of all, I am so thankful Yoongi exists and he gifts us his music.
So my opinion on the meaning of the title and some lyrics and video is he was/is going through so much, and when you're there you don't see an exit, so he's begging his amygdala (the part of his brain that creates that serotonin and manages the emotion) to save him, to let him get over everything. Is like when you're down in that tunnel, you maybe wanna end things but at the same time you want to be saved, I think that's the case.

So Amygdala is a part of the brain that keeps memories, especially the bad ones. They're kinda buried deep, things that we don't wanna think abt
Here he is unpacking them one by one and try to confront them
And he wanna be free from all the bad memories
But at the end of the day, you can't erase them
    It'll always be there forever

The amygdala is a tiny almond-shaped part of your brain (notice the version of him sitting and watching, and chowing down on almonds) that processes emotions. It holds on to memories-- ESPECIALLY emotionally-charged ones, like trauma or delight-- so you can react quickly if you're faced with the same event again. But that can backfire, because it makes it hard to properly let go of the really painful memories and heal.
He's pulling out all these tough memories now so he can work through them and be free of the trauma at last. And yes, the scar-- his music has been a BIG part of his dealing with those tough emotions and healing. So in a way, he created the character of Agust D as a way to get free of that dark room of bad memories (and NOT k___ himself).

So the Amygdala isn't just for processing emotions in general but it's basically like your warning signal. It's the part of your brain that helps detect danger or harm. I think him calling out for his Amygdala is him calling out his brain to protect him from harming himself. Your reaction is beautiful btw and I love how different kinds of people can feel and love different kinds of music. It's amazing. Everyone interprets things differently and that's totally okay.. its kinda the purpose of music 😊

you've gotta follow up the ending for this trilogy with the SUGA l AGUST D D-DAY TOUR. Because the start of the concert is the Amygdala ending scene where he laying down on the stage floor raining and in his final concert, he ends it with AGUST D walking off the stage closing the door behind him (Amygdala door) with a really beautiful smile :) and he did it with Armys.
    it is beautiful really.

Just so you know... this is Suga's true story. He often writes about his own experiences, the pain and struggles, the depression he suffered. Amygdala is a song about him trying to forget his past. The motorcycle accident really happened to him. He used to work as a part-time delivery guy during their trainee days because he needs to make money to support his family. He suffered shoulder injury and he never told their company for the fear that he might be kicked out of BTS. He endured his shoulder injury while doing those intense dance choreography. In 2020, he couldn't bear it so he told his company and had to undergo shoulder surgery. He is so brave. Min Yoongi, his real name or AKA Suga/Agust D suffered a lot. He is known for his raw talent. He's not ashamed to express how he feels through his music. He writes, produce and compose his own music. Suga is his stage name when he is with BTS and Agust D is his stage name when he goes solo. He is very talented.
