I like the idea of pre-reboot characters getting their own section of a multiverse where they can continue to exist while the mainline works continue. If someone has an idea for those particular characters, they can make it whenever. The key is that these stories stay somewhat infrequent to not overuse the setting and advance them enough to be in line with the mainline.
So I didn’t have a problem with Alan Scott being gay in Earth 2 but I did when they retconned Old Alan Scott in the main universe as gay. The reason I for this is because Earth was a parallel world so it was fine for a new take on the character. But it didn’t make any sense to change him in the main universe. Also him being gay takes away from his son Obsidian, a long time hero who’s been out for years. Nowadays they don’t give any focus to him which is a shame
I agree. I do think representation of minorities is important and there are great LGBT characters like Batwoman, Obsidian, Constantine, Midnighter, Maggie Sawyer, etc. but when they do that thing of turning characters that had existed for a long time gay, like Alan Scott or Velma from Scooby Doo, and want to make it like they've always been secretly gay. I feel the same way. When Earth-2 launched, I was interested because it was James Robinson. I adore his Starman series and if we HAD to have someone do this new 52 version, I was happy it was him. I even enjoyed some of what Tom Taylor did, especially with the final moments of Brutaal. But like you said, things went to hell during World's End. It was like a disaster movie that kept going and going and going. I checked in on Society but the art was an immediate turn off. I wonder how Earth-2 would've played out had Robinson stayed. Would we have eventually gotten a crossover with the Justice League? What was the ultimate goal with the war with Darkseid? We'll never know. And let me finish by saying I loved your Superboy and Kid Flash video, and after seeing this one, I'm excited to see what you do next. Keep up the good work!
I grew up with the revival Justice Society before the 52 and it took me a while to figure out why I enjoyed it: it felt like a family. There were the teens, the grandpas, some adults. Everyone figuring things out and helping each other and while not always perfect and with conflict, in the end they loved each other like a family. It was nice to see, for example, Alan Scott going from homophobe to appreciate his gay son and his son's partner. Or Coutney and Billy Bartson attempt romance and figuring things out. I was so excited over Kingdom Come Superman of all people showing up! It was an amazing run. I loved Starman, Robinson's run with Jack Knight was simply amazing and one of my favorites of all time, so I had high expectations of Earth-2. I had loathed everything Nu-52 brought to the table. Then... hope slowly but surely got snufed out.
I've been bothered for years that Steppenwolf was clearly killed off in this series, but has reappeared ever since, with no explanation of how and when he was resurrected. Since then there have been several soft reboots that could explain it. But he reappeared before the Rebirth Era. It just doesn't make sense... But it's DC's practice to ignore their own continuity as it suits them.
honestly, my biggest issue with the 52 JSA is Jay's stupid helmet and Allan's lack of a cape. i could get into my problems with the writting but i'll spare you the time wasted if i did
Funnily enough I was just thinking about this series & wondered how it ended. Your video kinda confirms what I remembered of Worlds End, shame a new Earth 2 that can't rely on the old recognisable superheroes always sounded fascinating.
Yep I remember skipping Worlds End during its initial release. I was already reading Earth 2 and Futures End and didn’t need to get even more depressed. 😢 New 52 editorial really was on a doom and gloom kick back then Read Earth 2, skip Worlds End, read the side stuff for Convergence and maybe give Society a try.
I still love and prefer the OG Earth 1 & 2. Reading those stories evoke within me, feelings of optimism and the blind pursuit of a better tomorrow. Similar feeling I get from Alex Ross's DC art.
Realistically. People would be racist towards Calvin Harris and deny him as being black because he doesn’t have African ancestry. This is based on real life of people say the Andaman Islanders who are considered black yet people deny them that because they don’t have African ancestry. Even though they were labeled the same way Africans were as black. Because many people forget blackness is a label and never a genetic one. With the whole Tyla coloured situation exposing some of that.
26:48 Telos has learned that he had live before becoming servant of Brainiac with family and kids, Dick lost contact with his son and was searching for him. Warlord died before in it's own series, so it's nothing new.
Fun fact, Earth 2 was refferenced heavily in a conversation between Val Zod and Jonathan Kent in the Young Super-Man storyline, although that would be wasted potential after Ultra-Man trapped Val and Red Tornado Lois in the Phantom Zone, and Injustice Superman killed Ultra-man before Johnathan could even make a move in that fight.
Earth-2 Worlds End was so bad that Darkseid destroying their planet was the highlight. 😂 The bad guy looked like the good guy ironically. XD He ended there bad failed plot lines.
2:38. It’s not really but it really shows what headspace they were in. They’re literal family. I’d start somewhere with the tights and the super shorts if I wanted to make a case. Still a bad one but
Some of this book sounds absolutely stellar. Reigniting the original concept for the JSA outside of usual DC continuity is a great way to honour the characters... But they really couldnt help themselves. They just HAD to introduce Batman and Superman, and after only 16 issues!
Prob because the original Earth 2 characters were removed. If the book had done well enough, that version of Jay would have pushed the original's Jay away from new readers
For all its vaults I’ll forever love Earth 2 for how well it shows just how big a threat Darkseid and the forces of Apokalips are when the heroes don’t have plot armour.
From the little I read of Earth 2 I enjoyed it, I liked the reinterpretation of Jay and how he recognized that he needed to grow as a person. As for Alan Scott, I'm always a sucker for his character
the DC Special issue with the first adventure of the Justice Society is great. Batman and Superman are on the team though they werent in the original run of All Star Comics much
Honestly I can kind of get behind the JSA themselves being a foundation in the main DC universe. But also really always liked the idea of them being an alternate earth initially, since it actually did alot more for the multiverse changes then just "changing some characters' skin" as alot of them tend to. So it was honestly pretty cool that they kind of had a compromise, making a semi-modern JSA with designs that I honestly all really really liked. Such a shame that it just never took off, though.
It sucks how many years I followed this series, to see how many things that were missed opportunity, but I'm glad with all the failures and hiccups along the way, the series managed to have a decent ending, even if anti climactic.
I’ve always loved the JSA, both in the golden age and when they became apart of new earth. Any story that had them crossover with the JL had me cheesing. I tried to get on board with this new reboot but I never got past Alan Scot’s new origin. I just couldn’t
Sounds like a lot of the problem is writers not communicating with other writers or not knowing what the background (or CURRENT background) for their characters is.
I really dug what James Robinson was going for with New 52 Earth-2 and how he tied together so many disparate JSA characters into a ragtag group of rogues + some of the more overt character differences (like Wonder Woman being married to Steppenwolf & having a Furie for a daughter)…but I think he heart stopped being in it once he saw how little of a dent it made at that point of his career. He wrote extensively about it in the Image series “Airboy” and really just vents about how DC saw him as the “Golden Age Character Guy” ever since he wrote the masterpiece that is Starman in the 90s through to 2002/2003
1:17 soooo Johnny Thunder is where Jakeem Thunder comes from. . . . Also, what happened to Crush's girlfriend who was in a love triangle with Damian in Teen Titans?
Honestly I enjoyed Earth 2 New 52 run And the reason why I enjoyed it is because it's what I wanted the new 52 to be where you have your own book and you're doing whatever you want to in that continuity without affecting the main continuity I wish Earth to was the new 52 and let us still have post crisis because nobody asks for flashpoint. And because Earth to New 52 didn't have any continuity or anything I could relatively enjoy it even though sometimes it was frustrating to read We just felt like damn these heroes can't catch a break.
I feel like steppenwolf showed his potential as a main villain in the first arc of the comic. Zack Snyder must have read this and thought what a great idea it was to replace him with evil superman as well.
Watching this makes me feel a bit better about being bad at keeping track of names in stories with a large cast because I'm clearly not the only one.
I can't believe they made Pepsi Man black.
We all know he's yellow.

Even though they were labeled the same way Africans were as black. Because many people forget blackness is a label and never a genetic one. With the whole Tyla coloured situation exposing some of that.
I really like the characters. They deserve a genuinely well written story. Also Helena Wayne Batman is an awesome concept.
Just wanna say how much I appreciate the music choice in this video. From Zelda Skyward Sword do Sonic Unleashed
The bad guy looked like the good guy ironically. XD
He ended there bad failed plot lines.
I find it hilarious in a video about DC Comics you use a BGM from Marvel Vs Capcom 2 lmao
The change to Scott was the worst
The New 52 version of Earth 2 never sat right with me. Not sure why. I never understood Green Lantern’s story arc.
Prob because the original Earth 2 characters were removed. If the book had done well enough, that version of Jay would have pushed the original's Jay away from new readers
Always enjoy when you drop a video, keep doing your thing and I’ll keep watching 👌🏾
For all its vaults I’ll forever love Earth 2 for how well it shows just how big a threat Darkseid and the forces of Apokalips are when the heroes don’t have plot armour.
There's no way dude is playing Persona 3 music while talking about WW2
"Aside from the racism" thanks for clarifying I was confused😂
That batman that Thomas met was the new earth batman from right before the new 52
From the little I read of Earth 2 I enjoyed it, I liked the reinterpretation of Jay and how he recognized that he needed to grow as a person. As for Alan Scott, I'm always a sucker for his character
the DC Special issue with the first adventure of the Justice Society is great. Batman and Superman are on the team though they werent in the original run of All Star Comics much
Love Earth 2 frl. It lets our heres mature and lets there off springs and many other heroes to step into their place
Welcome back
how did alan scott go from driving the train to owning the train? i like val zodd.
is it just me or did someone else also thoguh " Pepsi man " when they saw the thumbnail.
It sounds like a crazy fever dream
A simple suggestion: Please read Kamen Rider Kuuga, although it has a slow beginning, this manga is really cool.
Looking at the thumbnail i have no idea why since it is very similar to the original but the costume just screams Pepsi Man.
Dan Abnett should be writing Warhammer 40k novels, not wasting his time in the dead medium of superhero comic books.
This is an insane run
Earth 2 Hawkgirl is probably my favorite version of Hawkgirl. Always really liked the blue costume and her getting a more leadership role.
I like most of New 52 Earth 2 (tbh more so the ideas/concept of) but I am glad they brought back the classic versions.
It sucks how many years I followed this series, to see how many things that were missed opportunity, but I'm glad with all the failures and hiccups along the way, the series managed to have a decent ending, even if anti climactic.
I have an Earth 2: World’s End poster hung up on my wall just because a shop was handing them out for free. lol
Earth 2 was a great read
Earth 2 Society by itself isn’t bad. World’s End was whack.
Wow this had so much potential and they squandered it. I would say this deserves a reboot and rewrite but that might only contribute to the problem
i enjoyed alot of earth 2 during its initial run till it go so bleak, then convergence was really really fun!!
The golden age Hourman was Rex Tyler. His son, the second Hourman is named Rick.
I love new 52's earth 2
Great video
Honestly I enjoyed Earth 2 New 52 run And the reason why I enjoyed it is because it's what I wanted the new 52 to be where you have your own book and you're doing whatever you want to in that continuity without affecting the main continuity I wish Earth to was the new 52 and let us still have post crisis because nobody asks for flashpoint. And because Earth to New 52 didn't have any continuity or anything I could relatively enjoy it even though sometimes it was frustrating to read We just felt like damn these heroes can't catch a break.
thank you miss anne
It's funny how they made his face look so clueless On the thumb nail
7:21 "Infamous" W-what? Why??😅 What did he do that i missed?
Justice League on-set allegations by Ray Fischer
23:38 who is dat? Just wondering
Lol
I loved earth 2 when I came out and still do
I think this series should have a animated movie version of this and have more attention
Love the artwork. Glad I never collected this stuff...
I was gods stronges Geoff Johns fan and then he wrote doomsday clock and i have felt betrayed ever since.
Creatively Bankrupt. No wonder no one reads comics anymore.
I feel like steppenwolf showed his potential as a main villain in the first arc of the comic.
Zack Snyder must have read this and thought what a great idea it was to replace him with evil superman as well.
